Derek Hough Says The Standard Is Going To Be High On This Season Of Dancing With The Stars
It’s been an “exciting” and “insane” week for Derek Hough and his Dancing With The Stars partner Maria Menounos so far. Derek dished on it a little on Good Day LA on Thursday. Derek says he had to teach Maria how to walk. He describes why “walking” is so important when dancing. Fascinating and so true. Derek also summarizes what the cast for season 14 is going to be like. “Everybody is going to be really good,” he says. From what he’s seen and heard, “the standard is going to be very high!” I am happy to hear that, are you? I want to see a season of really good dancing and not so much drama. Maria looks incredible!! glad to see an interview with Derek…although i do think that the host didn’t do his homework well enough…but Derek was great as always !! and…i do expect the standards to be pretty high this season.

I think Derek’s correct about the standard of the competition this season so it’s good to hear that Maria’s work ethics are so strong. Hopefully it will translate well on the dance floor.
I’m definitely rooting for Team Menough. They make such a gorgeous/hot pairing.

Ha, Vogue…you can have the shoes….I want the dress with about an inch added to it ! Happened to see her that day on Extra and it is really cute from the front too.
They are SUCH a stunning couple, hope we get to see lots of pretty, breathtaking and fun dances from them. If she is any good at all, they will be beautiful together.
I know this season is going to be alot ougher in terms of standards since everyone has such potential to be great but i know at some point the judges will play favrorites. the question is who is unlucky contestant that ends up getting extra flack for no reason going to be.
Lastly, I know you guys probably get this a lot but thank you for making a site where people can voice their opinions about the show and dances and everything DWTS without being attacked. I really wish there was a version of this site for American idol since ew.com literally turns into attack on everyone who isn’t rooting for Phillip PhIllips.
I totally believe Derek when he says that it’s going to be very competitive this season. I asked my friend when was the last season they thought there were a lot of good dancers and she said season 5 (or at least many potential winners instead of just a few). I know we have to wait to see how everyone dances first, but I am getting very excited now. Oh and vogue, it’s @TeamMariaDerek .. just wanted to correct you in case anyone wanted to follow them on twitter.
#vin-re your comment “who is the unlucky contestant that ends up getting extra flack”…just reminded me again of one of the MOST unpleasant (recent)tIMO-turn on a dime=whiplash reversals on a contestant, with no apparent explanation, and that was Ralph Macchio. I will be forever wondering WHAT HAPPPENED. Dying to find out one day, maybe somebody will write a tell-all about this show. He was cruising along, doing great routines, getting praise, standing “O”‘s and without Derek that season I was being still entertained by he and Karina’s beautiful work(IMO he was close to a Giles Marini in his natural ability) and BAM!!!
OOOOPS! Sorry, got so excited retelling the story. I meant to add I thought he and Karina should have won that season or at worst, been second and instead the bashing started and he was shut out of the finals. Was it all about just ensuring the Disney kid make it to the finals ? Really ?
Mimi, just one opinion – it was an attempt to engineer the semi-final & finale such that it was as “young” as possible, to draw in those 18-30 year olds. The judges really tried to knock Ralph out of the semi-final, but Romeo was voted off instead. Remember the shocked look on the faces of all 3 stooges when Romeo was announced? Just an attempt to skew the viewing audience a bit younger, for more advertising dollars, IMO….
@Sally: I agree with you. After Romeo was voted off I think the judges were damn sure they would get Chelsea in the finale by any means necessary.
Hmmm, if our conspiracy antennae are accurate, then Jack could be this season’s “victim”. I don’t think they’d dare go after Gladys.
Really? Phil Phillips is a little cutie and very talented for sure – but the calibur of singers they have on this year is pretty high. Something for everyone actually. ew.com, eh? Wow. Perhaps they can’t behave that way at any of the reality TV show sites so all the trolls go there?
I get he sounds like Dave Matthews but I just don’t get his appeal to be honest. I kinda want to get him a stylist too. He seems to forget that presentation is 1/2 the battle on Idol.
Saying that, I;m rooting for Skylar, Jessica and Colton on Idol. But back to DWTS
I hope Derek has a couple of trick up his sleeve that will make Maria stand out this season. She seems nice and is gorgeous but hate to say it she needs to show her full personality really quick to get more votes.
I was worried about Maria too, at first. Now? Not so much. She’s certainly working the social media. And she has hyper extended legs like Brooke and is working on her second dance. As for showing her personality?? She posted these two videos last night.

@mimi(#8): I liked Ralph, but he had some hip and other issues which Gilles did not. Still, the situation could’ve been handled better, but, as has been said, this show is contrived and about ratings above all else.
i’m lookin forward for this great season!!sounds like it’s a tough competition this season.i think that’s great!!i’d love for my faves to win, but a great and entertaining overall season will do!. it does not matter who wins it, just grateful for the show and the joy it brings.
