People Goes Into Melissa Gilbert And Maks Chmerkovskiy’s DWTS Rehearsals

Melissa explains why she decided to Dancing With The Stars to People. The timing was perfect and she was ready for the challenge even though she didn’t realize how challenging it was going to be. Maks hasn’t made her cry yet except for the nice things he’s said to her. Maks says he can’t win since he makes women cry no matter what he says. Melissa talks of her Little House On The Prairie co-star Michael Landon (LOVED HIM!) and how he would be watching her if he was still alive. She even say Maks is like him. Lots more at People.

They look so good (in my opinion)!! What do you think? I’m liking this relationship and pairing a lot!!

UPDATE: Maks has written his first blog of the season. He catches us up on all of his projects since last season. He dishes on the cast and Melissa. From TV Guide, below is a take. Be sure to read the full blog at the link.

I’m having such a fantastic time with Melissa. She’s a great person with such a great personality. It’s always tough for me every season to try to describe my relationships with my partners. How many synonyms can you come up to describe how great someone is without offending someone from the past and without sounding like you’re not being genuine? Melissa’s amazing, but it doesn’t mean she’s any less amazing than Kirstie or Hope or Erin or Mel B. or Tia or Denise. They’re all amazing in their own way. Yet again, I think I lucked out with someone I love spending time with. Melissa’s very cool and very intelligent. She has an amazing sense of humor. She can dish it out and she can take it, which I love. We’re on the same page in our banter in how we speak and how we communicate and she does not get offended. She understands everything I say and how I say it. It’s gotten to the point that sometimes I’m cautious. I’m thinking like, “Is she that strong of a person that she kinds of holds it in? Am I gonna get slapped in a second?” But she’s that strong. She is very respectful to me and I have the utmost respect for her.

Rehearsals are going really well. We have the cha-cha for the first week and then the quickstep. Melissa said she danced ballet back in the day. She showed me videos of her dad dancing. He was amazing. We’re talking Gene Kelly- and Fred Astaire-kind of amazing. So she has that type of thing in her veins. Obviously, the cha-cha is freakin’ strange to anybody. There are certainly elements to ballroom that make it hard. But to be honest, we’re way past looking and going, “This one has dance experience.” As we see every season, having dance experience or ability doesn’t mean you win. Look at Kristin Cavallari last season, she was great and got eliminated early. I just hope everybody is going to be entertained.

Right now, Melissa and I are just kind of brushing things up. We’ve already got the routines done and there’s nothing more that we can do before Monday. Melissa has to experience Monday night and the nature of the beast. And then we go from there. She understands that too. We’re very cool together. I don’t need to say a lot for her to get it. I try to find ways to motivate. I tell her, “I want you to compete with these young girls.” She understands that it’s not a derogatory statement. She knows that I want her to be amazing just in general.

Derek Hough, Maria Menounos In DWTS Rehearsals, Jaleel And Maria Compare Themselves

People Online posted a video of Derek and Maria in rehearsals. Is it just me or are they oozing chemistry and cuteness?!!! I think she’s going to be better than she gives herself credit for!! She’s relaxing into it all now too in my opinion.

Also, below is a fun interview with WHAS11 with Maria and Jaleel talking about who is the better dancer between themselves. You’ll have to watch to see how they answer. They are fun. Their bodies hurt and the practices are intense, but, they are ready to dance. Lots more at Pure Derek Hough on Derek and Maria.

Katherine Jenkins And Mark Ballas Confident About Their DWTS Rehearsals (Rehearsal Video)

Mark tells ET that Katherine has “natural ability” when it comes to ballroom dancing, but, we will have to tune into the show to see. They show them dancing in rehearsals. Katherine talks of her dancing experience learning the Fox Trot when she was little and some ballet, but, ballroom dancing is completely out of her comfort zone. Mark has already choreographed their second week dance which is a Jive. Mark thinks it’s sexy. Lot’s more below….

Heidi’s Note: Mark isn’t the only one working on week two. Several others have indicated the same thing – and it happens this way every season. Not sure if Mark thinks he’s special in that regard…or if his obsessive love of the jive and all it’s associated spats and polka dots are at play here. 😀

DWTS 14 Preliminary Power Rankings, Part II

Alright kids – so on Tuesday, I counted down my picks for the bottom half of this season, and heard some great feedback from you guys.  Now onto the top half…and my prediction for the winner! 🙂

6.) Sherri & Val – Let me remind you guys that these rankings are certainly NOT a ranking of who is and isn’t my favorite, and really just who I think has staying power and who doesn’t.  That said, Sherri gets on my last nerve – and I know I’m not alone.  That right there could be her biggest obstacle this season: just completely turning people off with her loud, in-you-face personality.  I noticed many of you commented that you either put Sherri’s media clips on mute or didn’t watch them at all because Sherri was so annoying – can you imagine if that’s what she’s going to be like every week on DWTS? 😯 If she manages to not turn off the viewing audience, she has a big advantage in that she gets more media exposure on a daily basis than any of the other cast members this season – she’s on a popular morning show on a major network.  And what demographic do you think that morning show really caters to? The same middle-aged female demographic that does the bulk of the viewing of DWTS.  Even if she can’t blatantly promote herself on The View for votes on DWTS, just the fact that she’s got daily exposure will keep her fresh in people’s minds.  She also seems to have had some…ahem…”preparation” prior to the start of this season.  She’s definitely moving better than the average celeb with 3 weeks of training already.  Will it really give her an edge in the long run? Probably not a huge one, as I’ve always been of the opinion that a naturally-talented dancer (like Jaleel or Roshon) will always have an easier time picking up dance moves & choreography than a better-prepared celeb that’s not so much of a natural mover. As for her pro – I think the jury’s still out on Val.  I don’t think we really got a good idea of what he’s capable of last season, so I think this time around will be the real test.  There’s also the potential vote splitting in play – that’s another factor that I’m not sure we got to see play out last season.  If both Val & Maks’ partners stick around for awhile, will vote splitting come into play? Could be an interesting variable in the competition.

5.) Donald & Peta – Seeing what I have of Donald in interviews & rehearsals so far, I daresay he might be the most determined celeb this season – he’s talking about reviewing rehearsal tapes, special diets, marathon practice sessions, the works! But the very thing that gives him an edge could also be his downfall: being overly determined.  As paradoxical as it sounds, being too determined can almost be as detrimental as not caring at all – I’ve found that couples who are desperate to win often reach a point where they put too much pressure on themselves and flame out…a good example is Aaron Carter.  Remember the post-rumba meltdown in the confessional? Too much pressure on yourself, dude. I think they can also turn viewers off, too – the stench of desperation is not a pleasant one, and viewers can totally tell when a celeb has stopped having fun and just entered the “wayyyyy too competitive” territory.  However, if he can strike a nice balance between being determined and also just enjoying himself, I think he could be a big force to be reckoned with – of the 3 other NFL players who did the show while they were currently playing for a team, the lowest any of them have placed is 4th.  Perhaps because they’re still in peak physical form? Athleticism has obviously proven to be a huge asset.  Then there’s the famous NFL fanbase – and in this case, he’s got a very unique one backing him: the “cheeseheads”, or Green Bay Packers fans.  A lot of people don’t know this, but the Packers are the only team in the NFL that is non-profit and publicly-owned – meaning that there isn’t some wealthy individual or corporate entity that claims ownership of the team.  As a result, the Packers have remained a very “small town”-type team, with a surprisingly large legion of fiercly loyal fans.  I’ve witnessed it firsthand, as many of the people in my office are originally from Wisconsin and the big talk of Donald waltzing away with the trophy began mere hours after the cast announcement (I actually have an official wager going with our GM…maybe I’ll go into further detail in another post ;-)).  In short – these are some WICKEDLY DEVOTED fans.  I would even say they could give the Steeler Nation a run for their money.  I’m definitely fascinated to see how it plays out 🙂 As for Peta…she, like Val, isn’t truly battle-tested, so we may finally get to see what she’s made of this season.  If Donald could strike the right balance of competitiveness & fun, if the cheeseheads can put together an efficient voting effort, and if Peta can create some great routines…these two could be a bit of a dark horse to win. Great Interviews With Martina Navratilova And Tony Dovolani Leading Up To DWTS Premiere

What a cool interview with Martina Navratilova. After Ellen asks her how she’s dealing with the sudden attention of her new gig on Dancing With The Stars. Martina says it’s kind of weird as she is not a self promoter. They also ask her about rehearsals, her past dance experience, the competition and much more. Here’s is just a small take of it. I love how she surprised herself with having great legs. So cute. Thanks to PureDWTS reader Jennifer for bringing this fun interview to our attention.

AfterEllen.com: My first question is, how are you dealing with all this sudden attention due to the show?
Martina Navratilova: You know, I don’t hoard attention, so it’s just kind of weird. All the press and everything that I’ve done was always for a tournament, an endorsement, a charity event, or whatever I was doing. I’ve never tried to find attention [for myself]. My manager wants me to blog and Twitter and all this dancing stuff. I just started to Twitter now! I haven’t even tweeted until now. He said “You need to do more!”

I was like, “Ahhh! I’m not a self-promoter!” I just want to dance and have a good time.

AE: Did the show come to you or did you put your name in a hat? How did it all come about?
MN: They’ve been asking me for years but I kept saying “No way! I can’t see myself in those high heels.” But then I found out the heels are not that high and once I kind of got over that I thought “Okay, I can do the dress.” And when I put the dress on, I was like, “Oh my God! I’ve got great legs!”

It was a revelation to me. My girlfriend has been trying to get me to wear dresses and I’m like, “That’s not me.” She’d say, “But you have great legs!” So I put on the dress and was like, “I do have good legs!”

ArcaMax has a new interview up wtih Tony as well where he dishes about the similarities of he and Martina’s careers and how much he deeply respects her.

“We completely relate on every level,” Tony declares. “We’re both living the American dream. After coming here from other countries, we both love the American way. We’ve both competed for the U.S. in international competitions.”

Dovolani came here from his native Kosovo at age 15 and is certainly at home here. “Put it this way: My kids are totally American,” he says. His many achievements outside “DWTS” include 2005 and 2006 World Rhythm Championships. Of course, 59-time Grand Slam titles winner Navratilova also came here as a teen. She famously asked the U.S. for political asylum at age 18 and was subsequently stripped of her Czechoslovakian citizenship.

Beyond the shared Eastern European roots and elite competitions, Dovolani deeply admires Navratilova on a personal level. Asked how she compares to past partners such as Chynna Phillips, Wendy Williams, Jane Seymour, Kate Gosselin and Melissa Rycroft, he points out, “None of the others has gone through what she’s gone through. She has a different soul, a different way,” he adds of Navratilova, who is also a breast cancer survivor. “It’s not just that she’s a gay activist, but she came out at a young age at a time very few people came out, and she said, ‘Accept me for me.'”

Dancing With The Stars Donald Driver Gives A Cha Cha Preview Of What To Expect

620 WTMJ interviewed Donald Driver. He told them he “is feeling good” right now!!! He’s ready to start dancing and he even gives us a Cha Cha preview. Below is take, but, be sure you read the full story or listen in on the interview at the link. He talks of what it’s like living in L.A. currently, the high goals he has for the show, and football as well.

Donald Driver says he’s ready to start dancing. Driver told Wisconsin’s Afternoon News he practices dancing 5 hours a day — that’s after spending some time in the gym beforehand. “In the morning, (around) 8:30, I’m at the gym working out. I have a personal trainer down in LA, then from there I go straight to dance with Peta (Murgatroyd)” said Driver.

Peta Murgatroyd is Driver’s dance partner on the show. He talked about having her as his dance co-star. “She’s a doll. She’s a sweetheart — great person, great personality, great character.

Driver gave Wisconsin’s Afternoon News a little preview about what to expect. “I think she loves the Cha-Cha; that’s our first dance and I think we’re nailing it.”

The Packers all-time leader in receiving yards and receptions is hearing from some of his teammates, like wide receiver James Jones. “The person that really has picked up the phone and called me and had good words was James Jones. He just told me to make sure and go out there and ‘do what I do’ and don’t get voted off first.
