DWTS Mark Ballas Writes About First Dance With Katherine Jenkins, Sizes Up The Competition

Mark Ballas has written a new blog for Dancing With The Stars at USA Today. He writes all about his trip to London and meeting Katherine Jenkins. He also writes about their first dance and how they were able to size up the competition when they arrived to Los Angeles to rehearse. Below is a little take, but, be sure you read the full blog at the link.

Our first dance is the fox trot, which suits Katherine beautifully. She took to the choreography really well in the beginning, and we have been working extremely hard four to six hours a day. We are laughing a lot, and I am proud to say her dancing has improved immensely. We flew back to America and hit the ground running, picking right back up in our rehearsing at the training facility with all the other couples.

Since we didn’t get to see too much of the others rehearsing, we decided to do a “show and tell” and had all the couples dance for each other. It was a great way to size up the competition, and Season 14 is TALENTED! I really feel like this could be one of the best seasons for dancing, and I can’t wait for you all to watch.

Less than 28 hours and counting down until showtime, Everyone! 🙂

DWTS Season 14, Week 1 – Who’s Dancing What…and when?

Well, it’s that time of year once again, folks – time to strap on your sequined spats, grab a beer or a glass of wine (hard liquor if you’re a Val fan), and nitpick DWTS to death and then some. 🙂 As the biggest nit picker of them all, I like to list out who’s dancing what dance. If I find out, I will add their dance order (which coincides with their voting number on the first night, most of the time) and their song. Can’t guarantee the songs or the numbers, but most couples do manage to leak that phone number…well, any time now. I believe camera blocking is Sunday, at least in the first part of the season.

Sherri’s song is from one of their rehearsal videos – I’m assuming it’s correct. For now. And not at ALL cliche. 🙂

UPDATE 1: Until I hear differently, I am assuming that the phone number coincides with dance order. That is the way it usually works the first week. HOWEVER, be prepared for last minute changes tomorrow during dress rehearsal.

UPDATE 2: Derek is making me look like a freakin’ genius. Don’t know what I’m talking about? Read the comments. 🙂

UPDATE 3: Geez, I go for a walk and all hell breaks loose. 🙂

UPDATE 4: Jaleel going last is so shocking. Only not.

UPDATE 5: Ruh-roh…Gavin could be in trouble.  4th is one of the “running order positions of doom”. 😯 -Court-

UPDATE 6: Pretty much what we expected.  Big ratings draws towards the end of the show…debateable fanbases towards the beginning of the show.  Now let’s see if anything changes during the course of the day 😉

Maria and Derek – Cha Cha Cha (Dancing 1st)
Voting # 1-800-868-3401

Jack and Anna – Foxtrot (Dancing 2nd)
Voting # 1-800-868-3402

Donald and Peta – Cha Cha Cha (Dancing 3rd)
Voting # 1-800-868-3403

Gavin and Karina – Foxtrot (Dancing 4th)
Voting # 1-800-868-3404

Roshon and Chelsie – Cha Cha Cha (Dancing 5th)
Voting # 1-800-868-3405

Sherri and Val – Foxtrot  (Dancing 6th to Sherry by Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons)
Voting # 1-800-868-3406

Melissa and Maks – Cha Cha Cha (Dancing 7th)
Voting # 1-800-868-3407

William and Cheryl – Cha Cha Cha (Dancing 8th)
Voting # 1-800-868-3408

Martina and Tony – Foxtrot (Dancing 9th)
Voting # 1-800-868-3409

Katherine and Mark – Foxtrot (Dancing 10th)
Voting # 1-800-868-3410

Gladys and Tristan – Cha Cha Cha (Dancing 11th)
Voting # 1-800-868-3411

Jaleel and Kym – Foxtrot (Dancing 12th)
Voting # 1-800-868-3412

I’ve heard lots of people say that they think those with the Foxtrot are those likely to be in trouble. I will add that they are the ones likely to be in trouble, but not because of the foxtrot. Because of the JIVE they have to do in week 2. 🙂 Give me a quickstep any day. At least you do that one in hold a good bit.  Anywho, my early prediction is trouble for Gavin DeGraw. Why? I keep forgetting he’s in the dang competition!  I was forgetting about William a lot too, but since Sally pointed out that he has a teeny tiny peanut head – which rightfully made me giggle hysterically – I will likely remember him from here on out. 😉

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

DWTS 2012 Mark Ballas, Katherine Jenkins, Derek Hough, and Maria Menounos At The Grove

Friday, Team KMark and Team Menough were guests at The Grove in Hollywood for Extra. Both teams signed autographs, danced, and answered questions on the new season of Dancing With The Stars. Stay tuned. Extra should have the interviews up on TV and their site tomorrow sometime before showtime (we hope). In the meantime, enjoy the pics above courtesy of the Daily Mail via Splash News and Pure Derek Hough via Saliha. Aren’t they gorgeous?!! You can see even more pics and fun video coverage, etc. of Derek and Maria at Pure Derek Hough.
