DWTS Season 14, Week 1 – Who’s Dancing What…and when?
Well, it’s that time of year once again, folks – time to strap on your sequined spats, grab a beer or a glass of wine (hard liquor if you’re a Val fan), and nitpick DWTS to death and then some. 
As the biggest nit picker of them all, I like to list out who’s dancing what dance. If I find out, I will add their dance order (which coincides with their voting number on the first night, most of the time) and their song. Can’t guarantee the songs or the numbers, but most couples do manage to leak that phone number…well, any time now. I believe camera blocking is Sunday, at least in the first part of the season.
Sherri’s song is from one of their rehearsal videos – I’m assuming it’s correct. For now. And not at ALL cliche.
UPDATE 1: Until I hear differently, I am assuming that the phone number coincides with dance order. That is the way it usually works the first week. HOWEVER, be prepared for last minute changes tomorrow during dress rehearsal.

I’ve heard lots of people say that they think those with the Foxtrot are those likely to be in trouble. I will add that they are the ones likely to be in trouble, but not because of the foxtrot. Because of the JIVE they have to do in week 2. Give me a quickstep any day. At least you do that one in hold a good bit. Anywho, my early prediction is trouble for Gavin DeGraw. Why? I keep forgetting he’s in the dang competition! I was forgetting about William a lot too, but since Sally pointed out that he has a teeny tiny peanut head – which rightfully made me giggle hysterically – I will likely remember him from here on out.

I am already worried about Gavin, Katherine and possibly (ugh! I hate to utter this name but Martina), the foxtrot is so technical and graceful, the foxtrotters may be in more jeopardy. No worries for Jaleel, I think he will fly through. Yay!
And I might add, William’s Cha Cha should play right into who he is. Perfect dance to start the show for him. Can’t wait for to see who will steal the show, and possibly become my new favorite..

It’s DWTS eve and all throughout the land, fans were dusting off their ABC accounts and warming up their voting fingers! LOL

I was thinking between Martina and Gavin on who would be the first to go and they both do have the Foxtrot. Many may say that Gavin will be the first to go but what about his big fanbase and his touring? I mean, while he’s touring, he may be promoting DWTS at the same time which could help him. But then maybe not. Macy and Mario B were also touring at the same time, I believe and it certainly didn’t help Macy a bit. Mario did well but I think at one week, it was so hectic and he got eliminated. I also believe, if I’m not wrong, Sabrina was also real busy with something that week she was eliminated (when she shouldn’t have been!).
I kinda think giving team Sherval “Sherry by Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons” is a good idea. If I ahd to guess any music for the pthers I’m going to say that somehow William and Cheryl will get smething really fun like “International Love” or “Glad You Came” by the Wanted. Something current and fun.
Can’t wait for the season to start !! I agree its gonna be harder for the ones doing Foxtrot and Jive (still shaking my head at this week 2 dance…) I think Gavin and Martina might be in trouble already and I hope Katherine can stand out!

Lastly, I know they just used it before but Derek and Maria would be a great fit for “I Like How It Feels” by Enrique Iglesias.
@Manny: I was thinking they would save Gladys for last too but I think that the show might put Sherri and Val at the end too since she is probably the second most well known celeb this season.

Sandy, the cha cha might play to William’s strength, but will the quickstep?? That counts in the first elimination as well. Lucky for him he doesn’t have the jive.
I think some are overestimating Sherri’s fame. She’s on a daytime talk show. If she goes last it will likely be because she’s very good or because of the cheating scandal. But I would lay money on Gladys going last with Sherri second to last. I THINK that Derek and Maria will go first only because every other season Derek has had Cha Cha as his first dance, he’s gone first in the dance order (going by recall only – haven’t looked it up lately). Don’t quite know what that means, but there you have it.
I will predict, right now, that the Jive will be the death of someone. Not literally, of course.
I don’t know what it is you’re asking me, Margaret. The dances aren’t in order in my post and as for sequence? I think that’s also determined by WHO is dancing.

Tristan and Gladys are going to be the ones who will ignite the dance floor tomorrow night. You have the best dancing with the best and that will be explosive!
Woo Hoo! Is it tomorrow yet LOL. I really do like all of these teams, but do think Gavin is on the bubble for first elimination. I just don’t think he’s well known enough in the voting demographic, and I don’t think his dancing is going to be memorable. I’m so rooting for Martina… tomorrow night will tell us so much about her staying power. Fingers crossed she can “lose herself” in the dance, and toes crossed for Tony to design a well crafted routine. Gladys is gonna rock the Cha Cha, and Tristan is not gonna be able to keep his tongue in his mouth

If Sherri is the second most well known celeb this season then this country (and Canada) are in trouble cuz she shouldn’t be! Melissa, Martina .. shouldn’t they outrank Sherri?
I’d prefer a glass of wine, but yes, I just might have to get the hard liquor out. We’ll see how it goes. Not sure Brooke will be able to keep control in this case.
I’m really looking forward to Gladys and Tristan too. Well I’m looking forward to everyone. I hope Derek and Maria don’t get forgotten if they do go first. Don’t they usually put the “not so great” pairs at the beginning or is that more like in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th positions???

I agree that it doesn’t look good for Gavin… He’s not in the core DWTS demographic, he’s splitting time with touring, and he drew a craptastic opening sequence of dances in Foxtrot and Jive. At least Karina can choreograph an outstanding Foxtrot – I still remember Ralph’s, and if I recall, that was a season opener, too… but unless Gavin turns out to have the natural ability a-la Ralph, I think we’ll probably be waving bye-bye to him & his hat in a couple of weeks.
Positions 2, 3 and 4 are the danger zones, Meggie. Going first usually means they want to start with a bang or something to keep people tuned in. You want your favorite to go either first, at or near the top of the second hour, or in the last three dances. So, that should be 1, 6 or 7, or 10, 11, or 12. It won’t be as important tomorrow night as it will be next monday, right before the elimination.
People better vote like hell tomorrow night, regardless.

The difference between this season and Ralph’s season, though, is that there seems to be a lot more bigger names and talent on this season. In his season, Ralph WAS one of the bigger names. Gavin can’t really say that.
Oh, I agree that Ralph was a big name, and this is different. My comment was only that Karina is quite capable of doing a flashy, showy, “Broadway-type” Foxtrot. As opposed to, say, Lacey…
I agree that Gladys will probably go last tomorrow night as she is probably the best known celebrity.

Season 11 had the jive week two, right? I remember that it almost killed Jennifer.
And on #’s, Derek’s been 411 for the last two seasons that he danced. I wonder if he’ll get it for a third time…

Yeah, not sure why World Peace got the starting position last season. Maybe to reel in the basketball fans????
The good thing about the initial dances is that the couples can always choose to redo it should they last long enough in the competiton. I’ve always liked the couples that do this over the ones that choose to redo a dance that they got perfect or near perfect scores on.
Has there ever been a season that the week the couples choose their dance occur earlier than the semi-finals/finals?
@Meggie – The phone numbers are 1-800-VOTE-4xx. The last two seasons he danced, Derek’s number has been 11. Other than 911, 411 (directory info) is probably the most memorable number.
@Sally – I agree, Karina seems to mostly pull off a quite stellar Foxtrot, i.e., Ralph and JR, I don’t expect anything less this time. We shall see if Gavin can live up to the challenge.
@Meggie – LOL, I agree about Sherri. In opinion she shouldn’t be 2nd most known, she should be 2nd one voted off the island…. All in all, I am literally counting down the hours until the show starts.

They don’t always get to re-do them. In season 9 I believe they only showed clips in 8 pm show of the couples favorites, they didn’t re-dance them. All the seasons after that, the favorite was danced on the second night of the finale. In seasons 4 through 7, it was the second night of the finale. Before season 4, don’t know.
Looks to me like you pretty much have to make the finals in order to have a chance to re-dance anything competitively.

I don’t get people saying Gavin doesn’t for the DWTS demo. His music is pretty adult contemporary and he is very popular with women. He will probably be the weakest male dancer but I think he will survive the first week.

I’m sure SueB means he and his partners danced 11th Season 11 & Season 13, which is correct.
I don’t think the Cha, Cha will be the first dance. I think a Foxtrot will be first. If I remember correctly, in S12, Mark/Chelsea danced the Foxtrot and were first. I have a feeling they may repeat that pattern again.
I hope all the couples get great songs to dance to on their first out the gate!

@Andrea – the core demographic for DWTS is older women – outside of that most-sought-after 18-39 set. Those are the people most likely to vote. The reason I say Gavin is outside that demo is that I’m a part of the “older set”, and I & my friends hadn’t heard of Gavin… granted, that is anecdotal at best, but I figure if me & my girlfriends haven’t heard of someone before, that can’t be a good thing.

Gavin isn’t on the show by himself. He is on with the show with a large number of people who are more popular within the DWTS demo than he is. And even those who aren’t as popular in the demo (Maria, Katherine, William) have other things going for them, like professional partner, personality and lack of a job that takes them out of LA during the show.
I just wanna thank Heidi for this post and i’ve enjoyed reading all of the comments so much! Linde, you have a true talent for lyric writing.
I, like alot of you guys, fear for Gavin. Yes, he is a popular singer and has some great new songs out ( Like Not Over You ) and I deffinantly wouldn’t call him a has been but he just, for one reason or the other, fades into the woodwork and he has alot to live up to in being Karina’s partner, I still picture her with JR and Gavin seems like an awesome guy but he aint no JR, but i don’t think many of us are. I so wish him and Karina the best, though, I really do, it’s just while he is current there are other current names that have more things going for the them like Maria: Great personailty and laugh 
, Works in LA, is on TV everyday, plus she’s dancing with D Hough, Katherine: While not as commonly known as Gladys or maybe even Gavin in the US, from an international succes standpoint, Katherine is one the biggest names they’ve had on this show yet just go look on wiki and see her accomplishments, she performed for the Queen people, plus shes very Cuuuuuuute and has some experience, Sherri: On TV everyday, has some um, prior ” help ” 
, HUGE personality, and ABC is pimping the heck out of her. Then you have Roshon who probably has the most prior dancing and performance experience of anybody, Donald who has natural abililty and atheletism, plus the cheeseheads, Jack who is a soap legend and will likely do well with the middle-aged woman, and William who i’m going to go out on a limb and say will be about as close to a second Gilles as this show will get. And that just leaves the legends: Melissa, Jaleel, Martina, and Gladys…All of which spells trouble for Gavin. Best of luck to all though!!

Gladys ISN’T going to be dancing last…..
She and Tristan are dancing the cha cha cha, as are Melissa/Maks and Maria/Derek. Those 2 pairs are dancing seventh and first, respectively, so the pairs dancing cha cha cha will have the odd number positions, and the pairs dancing foxtrot will have the even number positions. And since there are 12 couples, unless they move people around, they will be ending with a foxtrot. So, which pair dancing foxtrot has created the most buzz pre-season?
Well if they are indeed going first, I hope that doesn’t freak Maria out. She doesn’t really seem to have the performance gene like some of the celebs! Maybe it’s better to get it over with first though. Who knows!?

Lori, like the dance order coinciding with the phone number, it is likely but not a sure thing. Don’t count your chickens. They have put two of the same dance back to back before and they have changed the dance order during final dress.
MOST of the time, the dance order on the first night coincides with the phone number. And most of the time they will try to alternate dances. But the former is more likely than the latter.
Actually, I think Jaleel has had little pre-season buzz compared to Gladys and Sherri. It’s not necessarily positive, the pre-season buzz. Didn’t Kate dance last the first week as well??

Heidi, Pam Anderson danced last the first week of season 10 with Kate second to last, Kate danced week 2 in the pimp spot, though. Nicole went last week three, Pam was last week 4, I believe Evan was last week 5, Pam was the last regular routine of week six followed by the Swing Dance Marathon, and thats all I can recall from that season without looking back, I was blessed with long-term memory. :0

I adore Gavin as a musician, singer and what he does behind the scenes in his community, charitable work etc. I too am curious how his goofy dude’ness is going to translate on the dance floor. I’m hoping for a “Shock and Awe” kind of thing! *LOL* cause if that doesn’t happen my man Gavin will absolutely be on the bubble. However, y’all, don’t underestimate his fan base “no one puts “gavin” in the corner” (pun intended)
Interesting point for this Season DWTS – Karina called him – asked if he would be interested. I can’t find the interview at the moment, but he indicated he got that call a few weeks before the announcement at GMA. He discussed with his NASCAR buddies while he was in Florida…. and wa la they are partnered together. This season feels a little like the casting went right down to the wire….
The season is going to be interesting in terms of “danceability”, Personalities, and of course, our favorite pastime “Judges Scores” and the drama that will follow. Mercy, please let them have some idea how the hell to score this season!!! (I can hope can’t I!?!)
My gut tells me we are going to be somewhat surprised by who couldn’t or didn’t perform (when we thought for sure they would or could) and who did (who we though no way). It comes down to Scores + Votes and there lies the crux of the matter.
Looking forward to Season 14 with you all here at Pure and on Twitter — I don’t think I could watch DWTS and not have Pure here too! It kinda goes hand in hand

Last and second to last is pretty much even.
I can’t decide who they will put last. Jaleel for being a good dancer, Gladys for being an icon, or Sherri for being most recently infamous. I don’t think the Sherri thing went that wide, plus she denied it…I’m leaning toward Gladys. If she’s NOT got a good cha cha, then I think they will go Jaleel.
But, I may have used up my psychic powers for the day with Derek.
I don’t know why people are talking crap about Gavin. Just because you don’t know him doesn’t mean he’s not “popular”. He has a HUGE fan base and is extremely talented. He is a natural performer and will do very well.
Like you said before, it doesn’t necessarily have to be a good dance – just one that everybody wants to see…

No slight of his popularity or talent intended; just one person’s opinion as to his relative popularity with the voting audience of the program he’s on.

Gavin fan, dial it back. No one is talking crap about Gavin and even if they were you would have to learn to deal. That’s how we roll. You can say what you want about the dancers, you don’t get to attack other people for their opinion.
Sheesh. The Derek fans reminded me that the first couple almost always gets underscored. Now I’m bummed out.

Have they posted the “theme and dance list by week” yet? Someone over on twop thought it would be coming out either last night or sometime today.
Gavin Fan…..I’m a fan of Gavin’s music and a fan of Karina….BUT….they started out with minimal practice time and on the road most of the time. He also didn’t know much about how the show worked, so he might not be that into it (just doing it for PR for new cd). It is odd that Karina called him to ask him to do it. Hope she doesn’t regret it. I am hoping he does well. I like to see those WITH NO EXPERIENCE OR PRIOR LESSONS WHATSOEVER learn and enjoy the experience.
Heidi, Did Kristi Y dance first and get 9s one show? There’s hope
Kristi danced 9th in week 1 and got a 27. But that’s Kristi – no one comes close to that.
But, historically, they do underscore the first dance of the season.
My daughter (who LOVES Hines) said Hines danced third on season 12′s week one. Was he an exception to the dancing 3,4,5th spot? Just curious.
I meant in general…not any one person in particular. Don’t judge until he gets a chance to perform at least. Passing judgement in advance seems unreasonable to me. I think you’ve underestimated him. That’s all I’m saying.
The “dancing in the crap” spot is no more a guarantee of going home or doing badly than going last meaning you’re a great dancer or lasting to the end.
@Sheery – Hines had the whole package, dance ability, charm, and a huge following. Once he hit the dance floor I don’t think it mattered one iota what/or when he danced. He pretty much had the competition won. Just my opinion though.

I am a HUGE fan of Gavin – please believe me when I say They were/are not bashing Gavin here — if you come here your gonna see a lot of things about a lot of the pros and the celebrities, statistics, fun, opinions (everyone has one and entitled to one), sometimes a lil *sass* and *snarky* too (that too is not a bad thing) Compared to several boards — (Now those can be some shark infested GET OUT OF THE WATER kind of places) you’ll find it’s pretty great around here.

Truthfully, our boy Gavin is working with a deficit – OVERALL Celebrity Popularity – many folks don’t know who he is, those of us who do, can gently, kindly, encouragingly introduce them to him

Keep rooting — watch for the post from someone of their Voting Call in # – TWEET like a madperson and spread the word. There are those, overall, who couldn’t dance for beans, but based on voting (fan base) managed to stay in longer than they should. There are those who should have been there but were voted off – because of lack of fan base. …. unfortunately its just how it works.

Don’t worry…Gavin fans are all over this before it’s even started. As far as dialing it back, I don’t know why that keeps being suggested. I didn’t know I dialed it up in the first place. Perhaps I could suggest the same to others. In any case, we’ll see who does what once the show starts.
I agree with Gavin Fan. All we really know about fan bases right now is based on what fans of the show are saying on the shows facebook page and the celebs twitter/facebook followers. I have seen a lot of supporters of Gavin on the DWTS facebook site. And he has over 150000 twitter followers. Pretty solid. Of course bad dancing and bad judges scoring can really set you back but I don’t thinmk Gavin will be the only bad dancer.
I have sneaking suspicion that 2 people in particular are in jeopardy for first boot and neither of them are Gavin.
Well, Maria & Derek do have some good things going for them. They look hot together, have fun personalities, great chemistry and their dancing looks pretty good too. If all comes this comes together on the dance floor, they have a great chance of getting good scores!

Whoa…Melissa is cha cha and so id William, right? So they are doing the same dance back to back…I’ll go with Gladys dancing last unless the dance is really not good, then I’ll go with Jaleel.
The 2 who I think are the most vulnerable?
1. Martina- Just going by her rehersal footages and Tony’s track record, she’s gonna be pretty weak IMO. Tony can make weak dancers look…terrible! She’s got just over 5000 twitter followers so soft diehard fans.
2. Sherri- The only contestant that divides fans right now. I noticed on the DWTS facebook page she has the fewest likes on her official photos. Add the cheating controversy and the fact Val does not have a huge base of support from his limited time and I think she’s vulnerable if she scores low the first 2 weeks. Heck even Shannen Doherty showed you can score high and still leave if your not well liked.
I’ll be shocked if it’s not one of these 2? For men Gavin and Jack seem to be the shakiest.
And once again we have the Chmerkovskiy brothers back to gack again! Val tweeted his number as 3406

Andrea – Fair enough. But before I’ve seem ‘em dance, I think the lovely and talented Courtney called it – the two most “on the bubble”, are Gavin and Katherine. Frankly, I’d be rather happy if it was Sherri, as she does get on every functional nerve I’ve got left. But I wouldn’t bet money on it…
I’m going to put this to you plainly Gavin Fan – you are being asked to dial it back because you are talking more about other posters here than you are about Gavin. You are projecting a lot of attitude. And I have very little patience for newcomers to this site coming in here and acting like none of us know what we’re talking about.

Yes, sheery, Sherri appears to be ending the first hour – or close. Her or Melissa, depending on what filler they have at the beginning of the show, if any.
I’m assuming they aren’t camera blocking in order. If they are, then several celebrities need to get on the ball. Chelsie tweeted an hour ago that she was headed to blocking, but I can’t believe they would give Roshon one of the good spots. But, maybe so.
I am guessing Gladys or Jaleel will end the show.
Maria going first this week is not that bad except for the obvious low ball scores. Hopefully she will make a good impression and have a good quickstep in week 2 which seems like a better draw than the jive.
I would not be surprised if Gavin or Jack go second. Then probably Donald or Roshon followed by Katherine. I had a feeling Mara would go first. She looked good enough with Derek as her partner, good way to start the new season but leaving the bigger names for the show’s demo for the second hour.
I have a feeling that Maria is not going to get underscored but I’m not expecting 8s in the first week from Maria. its probably going to be a nice 21 for week one for her.
In fact, I don’t expect to see many 8s in the first week from this group. The question is who qill those lucky people be? My money is on Roshon and Jaleel getting at least one 8 this week.

I called it! Had a feeling Jack would go early. Guessing Katherine might go fourth. I can see Maria getting a six from Carrie Ann even though I thought her feet placement and lines were great for a novice. Partly because I see Carrie Ann hating pretty girls sometimes while overscoring guys. Do not know why but see judges overscoring Katherine. Not because of Mark but my gut. Maybe more because the Brit connection and she will be good enough to inflate scores to give her a buffer in case she s lacking votes. Roshon or Jaleel, I can see getting 8s. Or maybe the judges will stick to just 6-8 s in week one.
Everyone seems to be saying how evenly matched this season is dance wise. All good but no clear frontrunner.

Being a roshon and chelsie fan, I would love for that to be the order…but that would leave 3 foxtrots in a row leading to the hour break.
That would probably bore the casual dance fan into changing the channel before the second hr.
I think I’m the only person that probably is excited for the foxtrots thats why I grouped a bunch of them together lol I feel like the foxtrot is a better way of seeing who is a better dancer.

I don’t think her comments weren’t taken in the way they were intended. As a fan of Gavin’s it’s hard to read everyone’s messages saying he’s probably going home first, and we are going to do our best to make sure that doesn’t happen just like everyone else who votes for their favorites. While he isn’t that well known to a lot of people, he is by us and we will support him in every way possible.

okay…someone replied (the person who said that comment about Gavin), that Katherine was put after another foxtrot to see the contrast, and that she danced beautifully.
I actually forgot about it premiering tomorrow. Could be that Im an OR nurse and sometimes work up to 2 day at a time so I dont have much time for TV but this cast isn’t completely unknown but IMO they’re largely forgettable aka lacks buzz. None the less I will be watching hope its good. My DVRs will be in overdrive with DWTS, The Voice, and the CBS comedy all occurring in the same time slot.
CBS is still running sitcoms? Isn’t that so 1990s lol.

Technically it’s six out of now twelve. I’m excluding Seasons 1 & 2 becaue they didn’t have an 11th star. But I do see your point. It’s just my theory. I never said it was a great one. lol =D

Here I was thinking that TPTB would have Maks & whoever his partner would have been go last because of his….let’s call it “aura” lol.
Guess that leaves the 5th spot for Roshon & Chelsie.
If things play out like we think they will and Roshon & Chelsie end up 5th and Gladys & Tristan end up 11th – I think Gavin & Roshon probably need to be worried. 2nd, 3rd, 4th (and sometimes 5th, depending on how fast they’re running the show) are generally the “forgotten” positions – historically, they’re the most likely to get sent home. At least Jack & Donald seem to have fanbases that will counteract a bad running order position – I’m not so sure about Gavin & Roshon.
I feel bad for Gavin. He seems likable. I’d be nervous too if I were him because he said in a video clip that they practiced in basically teeny tiny studios compared to the the size of the main floor and they have been figuring out how to do the dance on the appropriate size floor. I hope he didn’t sustain any injuries from when he was attacked and then hit by a taxi that will affect him.
Plus it’s rare they give higher than 7s to anyone in the first set to dance it seems. I was thinking now…Jack, Gavin, and Roshon in the bottom, but all morning on Ch7 and on radio in NY they are mentioning Gladys Knight, Jack Wagner, and Sherri Shepherd. Ummmm, Gavin is a New Yorker and they are not mentioning him…hmm.
It is kind of surprising TPTB would not pimp the Disney kid a little more with a better running order spot, since he’s “family.” I like Roshon’s energy and his dimples and hope he does well this season.
@Deena – I think they’re probably thinking that, in this first week, he is probably not going to pull in a lot of viewers, since the main demographic doesn’t really know him yet. If he does well this week, I think he’ll probably end up dancing in the 2nd half of the show next week – they did the same thing with Kyle in season 11: he danced 2nd in the first week, and towards the end of the show in the 2nd week. They had to make people like him first, and then put him towards the end of the show to get people to stay tuned in to see him. This first week will mainly be about ratings – who the viewers will stay tuned in to see, vs. who they might not care much about. But it’s interesting to me that they put William & Katherine (2 people relatively unknown here in the states) in the 2nd half of the show – I would have had them pegged for one of the “spots of doom”. But I think TPTB may have done them a favor in this instance – dancing in the 2nd half will get them more exposure.

William & Katherine are getting play in my city like crazy over the last few days on “chat shows”. Apparently, UK fans are preparing to vote “like mad” because they feel dwts is not being shown there because it might show favoritism in voting towards Kath. Does the show air in Mexico and Cuba? That then would be a valid argument for them i suppose.
Roshon looked much better in the GMA clip then we’ve seen. Gladys look nervous, as does Martina. Maria seemed stiff a bit IMHO. At least they do 2 dances before an elimination.
Courtney, I have a question. Do you think if William had Anna and Katherine had Tony, that they would have those spots, or do you think they may have stuck them in the earlier spots? I was just wondering if who the pro is made a difference….out of curiosity.

@sheery – Perhaps…I doubt a William-Anna and/or a Katherine/Tony pairing would have been as impactful as a William-Cheryl and a Katherine-Mark pairing. But I also wonder if bringing in William and Katherine this season was a calculated move to try and broaden the demographics of DWTS, and TPTB have are somehow invested in keeping those two around a bit longer. I do think it’s telling that they’re dancing in the 2nd half of the show…that’s where they tend to put the big hitters, as viewership increases in the 2nd half of the show. @Sherry, from what I’ve heard from some UK/Irish fans, the spring season is often not shown over there. The fall season usually is, but not always the spring. No idea why.
Sucks for Tristan too because last season his family got to see him and this season, they’ll have to catch things on YT.

I am so excited for the show tonight. I haven’t been this excited for the cast in a long time, but I really do like everybody so far. There are people I don’t know, like William, Roshon and Martina (not a tennis fan, so I had no clue who she was) but I have no reason to DISlike them so far, so everyone is starting out on equal footing with me tonight. When the cast was first announced I stated Maria/Derek and Roshon/Chelsie were my faves, just going by gut instinct. I can’t WAIT to see how everyone dances tonight to find out if one of those pairs will be getting my votes, or if someone else wows me with their dancing/personality/chemistry with their pro. Yay for my favorite show coming back on and for an enjoyable season!

So their making Jaleel go last. Producers want to make sure everybody keep tuned in. Of course everybody want to see “Urkel” dance. Also from Kym tweets she seems really excited which only means he must be good. He and Gladys got the pimp spots. Surprise their making Katherine and William go in the 2nd half of the show. They really want them to succeed, both can dance well and I think William is going to do really good and grow his fan base.
I’m also not confident about William. He’s in the latter half of the show, but not the best spot in the latter half.
The first couple dances on night one usually get hosed. And if they can’t dance they get seriously hosed. So, all those in the latter half of the show have another advantage on night one as well. Sad, but true.

Frankly, beside Derek and Maria going first, I think they’ve weakened the first half of the show a bit. While Derek and Maria going first is good (and not at all surprising), they have the show a bit weak after that (in terms of “known” people) up until the half. The Voice is stronger than ever (16 million viewers plus) and will be serious competition – or it should be. I might have set it up a bit differently, with either Gladys or Jaleel…or maybe William for eye candy…at about the 3rd or 4th position. I dunno. I suppose there are arguments for the both ways. The key about tonight is grabbing and holding an audience. This is where I pimp my new rating series that will be starting on Wednesday.
Really, Courtney is right. Night 1 is all about RATINGS.

Heidi – while I agree with you in theory, remember that the casual viewer that they’re trying to attract/keep from The Voice doesn’t know the order in advance – really it’s only us regular (obsessed
) fans that are in tune with these things. So for their purposes, give ‘em a couple with a lot of buzz (Maria&Derek), then keep ‘em watching for the couples in the latter half – although an argument could be made that the couples which would most appeal to The Voice’s younger demographic are in the first half – Gavin-Karina and Rochon-Chelsie come to mind.
Another plus for DWTS is that The Voice is in the ‘battle rounds’ phase, which quite frankly is starting to drag a bit.
Magnolia – a few weeks ago Tristan’s sister tweeted something about being out of the country around this time – she was missing some concert in Bray apparently – so I’m wondering if his family will be at the premiere tonight?

They put some folks with a loyal fan base in the first half like Jack and Donald. It does seem like the show did William and Katherine a favor by putting them in the second hour and I am guessing they will be good too. Their dancing will help outset the unknown factor.
I think Maria going first is not bad except low scores but being forgotten should not be as bad since there is no elimination until next week. If she goes later next week, I think that should be good for her.

Not surprised Katherine looks good. I expected her to look good in ballroom. If she can tackle the jive, she is a frontrunner. Argh, wish she was paired with Tristan instead. She is good which means I will be stuck with Mark for weeks now. Sure they will overscored her to keep her around.

Really Brooke???? Highest score EVER on a premier night? Remember Kristi Yamaguchi, who got 27 on week 1? That beats Katherine. And, Nicole Scherzinger got 9′s on week 1 too. I know there’s more, but I can’t think of them off the top of my head.
