DWTS 14 Week 1: Interviews After The First Dance Part 2 (Videos)
Our media coverage from last night’s first show of Dancing With The Stars season 14 continues. First up, Entertainment Tonight interviewed all the couples after their first dance. Let’s just say, the fun and excitement is at it’s highest. ๐
Below is Carson Kressley on Good Morning America today reviewing the show….
Louis Van Amstel reviewed the night. Below is his “overall” opinion from his new blog at Good Morning America. Be sure to read the link for his thoughts on each couple. I pretty much agree with him on all of them, do you?
Overall. It was an awesome opening night. My favorites were Roshon and William for their energy, but Katherineโs and Jaleelโs Foxtrots were of a higher quality and their content was more complicated.
There were many other performances that I liked. Gladys was very natural, and I just keep seeing her joyous face in my mind.
That’s not all from Good Morning America! They are also featuring a cool spread on the celebrities ‘real life’ partners. Be sure to see and read on it here.
And that’s not all….
Access Hollywood doesn’t have any interviews up (yet?), but, for now you can enjoy a great gallery of pictures from the night and a great wrap up here.
ABC captured the highlights of the night as well…
Lastly, PopTVDotCom interviewed some of the cast and their families after the show going out to dinner and partying, etc. Tom Bergeron is a hoot!! Shirley Ballas has some words on the night as well. Lots more below of everyone….
Ok, that is all for now, Dancettes! ๐
Aw…..sweet words from Mark about Tiffany–that’s why we will PROBABLY get a gentler Mark lol.
Like that Ralph came to support and hang out with Karina.
Really, ET, REALLY ? Weren’t Maria Menunous and Derek Hough on last nights show ? Did I miss a video somewhere, if not it’s obvious what kind of agenda the network has going this season. After GMA went on and on about certain couples, guess who ? on this mornings show there was a couple second flash and the names Maria and Derek mentioned b4 they rushed on ( and actually they did the same to Gavin). Guess that’s so they can claim to be covering all the contestants.
Wouldn’t it be nice if when networks, producers etc., put on a competion show where the viewers are supposed to judge, that they would leave their biases out of it ?
Do any of the Mark fans on this website like Tiffany? She seems to be really good for him and has had some staying power, unlike a lot of his recent women.
ET just needs to suck it in and be professional regarding Maria and Derek. Wow.
I didn’t watch the videos, but if they are ignoring Maria and Derek it seems strange. I know Maria works for a rival network, but isn’t Ryan Seacrest kind of a big man around ET? And he’s dating Julianne…something doesn’t compute.
Violet, Ryan works for E! News cable channel not ET on CBS ๐
Yes, Deena, Mark & Tiffany seem to be a perfect fit….we’ll see.
@mimi – I don’t think it’s so much bias as it is just not wanting to support a rival network. Extra is an NBC show; ET is on CBS. None of the rival gossip shows are even acknowledging that Maria is doing DWTS. From a business standpoint, I guess I kind of get it – still think it’s dumb, but I get it. Luckily, Maria seems to have a great deal of celebrities endorsing and supporting her, so that could counteract the lack of media coverage somewhat (more on that later).
@Violet – Seacrest is a big man at E! (the network), but I don’t think he’s really plugged into ET at all. And while Seacrest seems to think he has some sort of pull over at DWTS (by virtue of banging Julianne or just by virtue of being Ryan Seacrest, I’m not sure), the reality is that he works for a rival network and is not at all in a position of power over at ABC – although he seems to think he is, from the impression he gives on his show of being somewhat of a “DWTS insider”. He’s really no more than the guy across the hall that just happens to be in a relationship with a former pro. He irritates me ๐
@Deena – I honestly don’t really care who Mark is dating, as long as he isn’t shoving it in everyone’s face like he did the whole Pia debacle ๐ And I don’t really know who Tiffany is…is she an actress? He doesn’t seem to talk about her a whole lot…guess I’m just used to hearing him gush about Sabrina/Joanna/Chelsie/Pia/whoever ๐
Oh geeze. So, apparently is was MY BRAIN that wasn’t computing, because I was totally thinking E! instead of ET. Sorry!
Courtney, I didn’t think he had pull over ABC or DWTS, just over ET (which is really E!, which is really irrelevant, haha). I agree with you, though. Seacrest can be annoying. But, I have to give props–man is a workaholic and good at his job(s). (Though I will never, ever forgive him, because isn’t he the one who originally put the Kardashians on the air? Blah)
@courtney..Yes, I understand what you are saying but DWTS is an affiliated network show and if they are going to invite people to be on DWTS , they ought to be reporting on all the contestants equally. A contestant is a contestant is a contestant and they are all competing, supposedly with equal chances to win. They didn’t have any problem, it seems, when Wendy Williams was on and covered her (diff network and we heard EVERYTHING she had to say almost daily) and it seems like there was another host/hostess not too long ago. This just seems very blatant.
And yes, I am a Derek fan, but I give kudos to others as well and it seems to me that they (esp GMA and now ET) go out of their way to ignore the 3-time champ of this show, even last season. There is always much more about the Chermerkowskys (Maks was mentioned NO LESS than every hour on GMA today) and this season we can add Sherry S. Val and Roshon to the mix. Seems like an agenda to me.
Guess Derek and Maria need to get some bullhorns and Big Mouths-that seems to be what’s prefered, and we all know Derek isn’t like that. Anyway, publicists and agents should be screaming at multiple somebodys—network, DWTS producers etc.
Loved all the interviews as always ๐
I don’t know what I would do without this site.
And yeah Courtney I don’t care who Mark dates either because he seems to be with someone new all the time.
Vogue, Thank you for the great round-up of first night interviews and commentary!
I enjoyed Louis’s evaluation of the dances and scores, and actually agreed with him for the most part. That will probably change over time ::LOL::
The entertainment shows – usually it has nothing to do with network because most of them are syndicated, and I think that includes entertainment tonight and extra. Pretty sure that ET is on Fox here, for example. ET MIGHT be the only one tied to a network. Don’t remember.
GMA has no excuse except they rarely cover ppl like Maria and Gavin. E! will cover Maria both because of Derek and because they are big enough to not be threatened by petty shit.
Well, Mimi, Sherri isn’t the only ABC employee to spend a lot of time with a Chmerkovskiy – Robin has done a good bit of that herself. Frankly, this is where Derek’s lack of self promotion harms him – he essentially has to WIN to get coverage.
But, Derek is the pro who had full page or near full page in both People and US this past week, so it ain’t all bad.
Yes, Heidi…in most cases I could give a rat’s behind WHO these shows cover but in the case of DWTS, with 12 contestants, they cover the show and LIST or interview all but one celeb, Maria, as I said b4, agents should be screaming. Either I or a couple of others who work with me, screen all these shows daily. Today,so far, Access,Insider and ET gave DWTS alot of coverage and Maria was not mentioned and I think it was Access that named every contestant but her.
But what really bugs me is GMA, so much DWTS coverage, and this constant pimping of the Chermokowskys by Robin, and a couple of the other pros they must “be friends with”. Been observing that for 2 or 3 seasons. Shrieking that Maks is Back like it’s the second coming, who scored low last night, and not a mention of the 3xMB-winner and his partner?! I think they mentioned all the 2x winners. The reason is that altho its not as true of the evening rags, the demographic of DWTS watches GMA bigtime. They hear things on GMA, tune into DWTS, and the name recognition factor plays a part. They see a Katherine and it’s “oh yes, shes the singer not well known from Wales I know about her from GMA,” or” theres “half-pint” and GMA talked all about what shes been doing lately. There have been plenty of other celebs on the show who have been on other networks. When they have interviewed some of them they will say, “this is so and so from a show on another network” that we won’t name but they still interview and cover them pertaining to their participation.
Sherrie needs to go . A cheater should not bealoud onthe show. Who cares she is a diabetic or has 2 left feet and oh yes she is fat..look at the other ones and they didi not stoop to cheating. She needs to go.
Mimi, I agree with you, especially with regards to GMA. Robin has not always been this way, esp. towards Derek! It does seem quite blatant and odd to totally disregard/not promote Maria(Contestant) & Derek a 3x champion & 3x Emmy nominated choreographer. No interviews or promotions, this is definitely a first.
I would think that there would be a stipulation in the contract to assure equal interviews/promotion for each contestant. Their management teams needs to step up.
Why is producers of DWTS allowing this to happen? It does make one wonder if they’ve got something up their sleeve. It just doesn’t seem right.
I’m so glad Extra is stepping up and promoting Maria & Derek!
