Donald Driver Talks About Dancing With The Stars, His Charity For Homeless People, and More (Videos)

Donald Driver told Access Hollywood that he did Dancing With The Stars so people could see him in a different light other than football. He wants to promote his charity for homeless people since he use to be homeless once himself. Peta is in the interview as well and they talk all about their dancing. Fascinating interview especially since we haven’t seen a lot of promotion from these two yet….

DWTS14: A Refresher on the Importance of Running Order

Since there still seems to be some confusion on what running order positions are “good” or “bad” (even though I feel like Heidi & I have repeated ourselves ad infinitum), I thought now might be a good time to give everyone a crash course in the “Courtney & Heidi Theory of Running Order” :-) I did more of an experimental post about running order back in 2010, but since then Heidi & I have honed our theory a bit more and it’s time for an update!

For those of you just wanting the Cliff’s Notes version, here’s the basic gist: the beginning, middle, and end of the show are the best positions, and it’s better to dance in the 2nd half of the show than the first.  And why is that, you ask? The answer: ratings. If you’re still interested, read on…

So what makes going 1st an advantage? In theory, you’ve got the attention of all the folks that tuned in at 8 PM, before they lose interest and change the channel.  The 8 PM-9PM time slot is quite possibly the most competitive weeknight time slot - most networks try to put their big-hitters with broad-spectrum appeal in this slot, as it’s the hour that families are most likely to be watching TV together, before the kids (and sometime grandma & grandpa) go to bed.  It therefore stands to reason that TPTB would want to put a popular, attention-grabbing couple at the top of the first hour to try and hold viewers’ interest and keep them from changing the channel – say, to How I Met Your Mother on CBS or The Voice on NBC.  How does it benefit the couple? Obviously they get some good exposure, but it also tends to benefit them in the voting.  While we diehard viewers may start voting for a couple at the beginning of the show that may not actually be dancing until the end of the show, the average viewer may not start voting until they see a couple that really impresses them – my mom tends to vote this way.  She’ll see a couple that she really likes, and even though the show might not be over yet, she’ll use all her votes on that particular couple (sometimes she’ll regret it later when she sees a couple she likes even more, but that’s neither here nor there ;-)).  Going first can help a couple snare some impulse votes, before a viewer sees anyone else and change their mind.  It also tends to keep them memorable, since they’re the first couple the viewers see.

DWTS Season 14 March 22nd Las Vegas Odds After The First Dance

As always, what a difference the Las Vegas Odds can make after that first dance on Dancing With The Stars. Below is how the Las Vegas Odds are going down currently at Vegas Odds On. Note how the odds makers are still putting William Levy in first and Gavin and Martina in last. Compared to last weeks odds, there has been a total shake up in the middle.

William Levy 7/2
Jaleel White 11/4
Donald Driver 4/1
Maria Menounos 13/2
Katherine Jenkins 15/2
Roshon Fegan 8/1
Jack Wagner 15/1
Gladys Knight 15/1
Melissa Gilbert 18/1
Sherri Shepherd 20/1
Gavin DeGraw 35/1
Martina Navratilova 50/1

So, do the odds makers have it right this time? I was shocked to see Donald so high and Sherri so low (not that I have an issue with it? :) )? Let’s get Heidi and Court’s thoughts….

Heidi: Well, of course they’ll leave William up there, cuz going by the screams in the audience he’s a shoe in to win right? Ummm….no. The odds makers have NEVER understood how this show works, have never taken the time to figure it out, and consistently show week after week, season after season, that they are willing to drastically change rankings every week after being proven wrong the week before. :-) They really should hire me, Court or Marianya to do this odds crap for them. :-) We would be right far more often than they could ever hope for. Ah well, they do provide additional fodder every week for us to poke fun at.

Courtney: Reading through these odds, it’s as if these oddsmakers just trolled the internet, reading various reviews of Monday’s show, and then somehow combined them into some weird, non-cohesive odds that neither make them look like geniuses nor complete idiots.  Of course they’re buying into the William hype, since the judges all seemed to temporarily grow va-jay-jays when they scored him – plus the oddsmakers picked William to win before the season started, and I doubt they’d back down from that opinion so soon, lest they look a bit silly.  They honestly think Donald has a better chance than Jaleel at this point??? Don’t get me wrong, Donald has potential, but there was a good 5-point difference between the two, and Jaleel’s technique is already miles ahead of pretty much everyone except Katherine, while Donald is…flaily. :-) The one that really baffles me is Melissa having better odds than Sherri – meek, awkward dancer with debatable fanbase vs. a big personality with daily exposure that can actually dance pretty well? Might wanna rethink that one, guys.  Maria over Katherine? Not if the judges keep handicapping the latter.  Martina & Gavin at the bottom, I agree with – but I don’t think their odds should be THAT low.  Maybe 25-1 for Gavin and 40-1 for Martina. The only one I think they got spot-on was Roshon – the odds seem about right, and he’s at about the right position in the pack.  Now the real test will be next week, when the Latin golden boy has to do a ballroom dance…should be interesting to see if he maintains his lead in the odds, or falls ;-)

Mark Ballas Writes On Katherine Jenkins And Their New Dance For Monday Night

Mark Ballas has written a new blog for USA Today. He explains what Monday was like for he and Katherine getting ready for the show and the rush during and afterwards. Below is a take about it and what they are working on for week 2. More at the link.

The standing ovation and roar from the audience confirmed that we did a good job. I guess the silence was the audience taking it all in and really appreciating our hard work, which felt amazing. The judges’ comments were great and it was extremely nice to have their support and hear that they liked Katherine’s dancing.

Len was right though — we do need to get her rib cage lifted a bit more while in frame, but for Week 1, I was thrilled with our performance! It brought me back to my first season on the show when Sabrina Bryan and I also received a 26 for our Week 1 cha cha.

This week, it’s back to the drawing board for the jive; a completely different style for Katherine. I do think she is going to really enjoy “shaking her bits” for all of you guys on Monday. We definitely have a high-energy, fun routine in store for you.

Below is Katherine and Mark on Access Hollywood today…

She also addresses the dance cheating rumors again. Sherri also talks of how Val hurt his back in rehearsals dipping her. He also split his pants (lol). Sherri talks of all of her fears doing the show too and lots more…
