DWTS Season 14, Week 2 – Who’s Dancing What…and when?

It’s the week that just might separate the men from the boys…pardon the expresssion. The Jive and the Quickstep, two very fast dances when done properly. People will need grace and frame and speed for the quickstep and quick feet and sharp flicks and kicks for the Jive. And if you’re Katherine, there will likely be polka dots and spats involved. Maybe Buddy Holly glasses or suspenders. Keep checking back, we’ll add information as we know it.

ETA: Someone is doing a Jive to Proud Mary – but it’s not Gavin. Courtney is guessing Sherri or Jaleel. I will forever associate Proud Mary with Nicole. People are being tight lipped with the running order, although it’s possible it’s not firmed up yet. I would imagine it’s not easy with everyone being pretty good.

ETA 2: Gee, what a shock, William has the pimp spot. Sure do hope he does more than let Cheryl dance around him this time.

ETA 3: Not so much surprised about Sherri going 2nd (doubt it means much right now), but I am surprised that they’re putting a jive 2nd – if they were alternating jives & quicksteps, I would think she would be in an odd-numbered position. So that means we’re going to have either back-to-back jives or back-to-back quicksteps at some point this evening.-Court-

ETA 4: Melissa going 3rd?? This is not a good plan, IMO. And bummer for Jack. -Heidi

Frankly, I’m curious to see William, Roshon and Donald manage the quickstep. This dance may just tell the tale on each of them. I think Jaleel will kill it. Maria looks great on her quickstep, provided that jump that Derek seems to have stuck in there is not categorized as a lift by CAI – she’s just idiotic enough to pull that, since Maria is a beautiful girl instead of a hot guy, if you know what I mean. William could fall down during his quickstep and still get a 9 from her. Anyway, I think Melissa will come back and I think Martina will be fine, provided that Tony gives her something exciting. Gladys will be adorable again, but adorable only lasts for so long, so I hope she’s learning to dance. I have a good bit of faith in Tristan, but Gladys isn’t as young as she used to be. Katherine, with her experience, should be fine. Gavin – almost forgot about him again and that’s not a good sign – but I can’t imagine either he or Sherri pulling off a good Jive, but one of them will likely prove me wrong. We’ll see!!

Fingers crossed for “Two Hearts” for Gladys & Tristan !

I agree that it should be interesting to see how William handles the quickstep. It’s not a sexy dance…so he may not be able to play so much to Carrie Ann’s lady parts. Other make-it-or-break-it dances? Melissa’s quickstep (she needs to improve drastically if she wants to stick around), Roshon’s quickstep (can he hack it without hip-hop moves to fall back on?), & Sherri’s jive (does she have the stamina?). A very interesting night of competition indeed.

ITA about CAI comments lol the thing is though everybody knows she does this too im sick of all this “hes hawt” rubbish can he dance is the question , i wasnt too impressed by his cha cha, all bumping and grinding and if you like that fair enough lol i keep forgetting jack and thats not fair because i adore anna its just everybody is so great this season that some do get pushed to the bottom of the pile, my favs so far are jaleel,gladys melissa …jaleel and kym are just so good, gladys and gorgeous tristan are just so classy and the lady can move and melissa because i think there is so much potential there and i love maks too of course but then theres sherri and val whom i am loving too because she obviously loves it see everybody has something to offer and usually even by week 2 i have my favs and thats it …:-)

It really depends on what it is Derek is doing. In watching the video it looks like a jump, but it’s an odd jump. I wonder if she’s jumping off the stairs with his hands on her waist – and since they weren’t in the “big room” with the stars, they were simulating it to run the dance through.

If CAI calls it, I will be pissed, after all the other jumps Kym and others have done. But hell, CAI called a lift when the dance was over for Nicole and Derek and totally said out loud she was letting is slide for Shawn and Mark – exact same lift at the exact same time. That’s our CAI – erratic as hell and often conveniently blind as a bat.

Quickstep requires a lot of stamina, and just because of her age, I do hesitate a moment for Gladys. However, I think they will do well if Tristan sticks to the “rules” of quickstep, which will appeal to Len. CAI is still so fangirly about Gladys that I think she’ll score with her heart. Anywho, I’ve heard guesses of “Two Hearts,” “Sussudio,” and “Easy Lover.” I’m hoping for “Two Hearts,” just like Courtney because I think it fits best and they used “Easy Lover” last season, right?

The problem with the over scoring is that it also makes people complacent about voting. But I agree, I don’t think we’ll see too much of it this week. Maybe William and Gladys – but maybe not. We’ll see.

I don’t think they NEED to overscore Gladys – I think she will be around for a while because she’s lovable. I might vote for her if Derek and Maria go early on.

I wouldn’t count Gladys out just yet. Tristan seems to have the knack of choreographing the dance to his celebs capabilities. I just hope it won’t be too obvious and I’m sat there thinking “they should be doing this faster…”

If the show’s narrative this year is competitive dancing, maybe we will see more overscoring. There have been tens in week 2 (Nicole and Joey Lawrence). There 8s and 9s given last week that did not deserve them, IMO. Yet they did. I think they overscored those dances to help out their faves or foxtrot folks who have jive this week or something.

I expect to see Jaleel back on top and Gladys will be overscored. I love her but she is their biggest name. I doubt they want her out first. Besides I sense she has the support.

I do worry Gavin or Jack maybe vulnerable. The running order should give us more hints.

Well, like I said, I might even vote for her if my favorite goes out. BUT there is no escaping the fact that she is 60+ years old and that with age comes less stamina and a host of other problems. That’s just a simple fact of life. By the same token, with her age comes a larger, sentimental fanbase. As long as her scores stay up, she’ll be around for a while.

I’m not entirely sure the running order will tell us as much as it normally does. With as many good dancers as there are, and as many bigger names, someone has to have the crap spots and odds are better this season than ever that it will be someone that is actually a good dancer. Especially by Week 3.

I don’t think they’ve done a group dance since Season 9, when they did the Group Hustle. And I think Season 9 is also where they debuted the Dance Marathon. We didn’t have a dance marathon in Season 12 (the infamous “Broadway” one?) and I didn’t watch Season 13 so I have no idea on that one. Oh I hope they do the group dance this season! I found the dance marathon pretty boring and I don’t miss it. I also wouldn’t mind the team dances but I like the group dances the best. I definitely expect CAI to consider the jump a lift for Maria & Derek so… 7 from her, i am quite sure Sherri will have not only stamina issues but also at least a wardrobe malfunction and i expect Katherine to be great and Len to give a 8 ..cause he doesn’t favor her, i expect everyone trying to encourage Melissa so…a little overscoring will be going in their direction, i expect Martina to be better than week 1 because i just feel this dance suits her better and i think Roshon will have problems with the posture for this one… can’t wait for the dances

I’m not a believer in making random predictions on a score when the wack ass judges are involved, beyond saying CAI will vote with her vagina and so will bruno. I do think that Derek is going to take a risk and play to the audience with a great dance that might not please CAI. He’s done it before and it might be a good time to do it again.

I think Maria’s dance last week was great, considering she went first was and was automatically underscored – but you have to stand out in this crowd.

I forgot to ask – how do we know that G&T have a Phil Collins song? I feel like I’ve missed an interview or something… I actually don’t think stamina will be her major problem, as she didn’t even seem winded after her dance (as opposed to Kirstie last year, who always seemed on the verge of collapse). I think flexibility and quickness will be her issues.

I do think quickstep will be the downfall of a few, although W&C getting the pimp spot makes me want to barf a little. And I really hope Gavin makes more of an impression, ’cause I really want him to stick around for a few.

M&D – yeah, he’s definitely trying to get some buzz going – and that move is totally a lift. I dunno… after seeing their cha-cha, I just have this weird feeling that Maria’s actual dancing skills aren’t that great, and that Derek is trying some smoke and mirrors… she did look better in the quickstep, however, so we’ll have to see.

Remember, the pimp spot doesn’t always go to the best dancer – it often goes to the worst who’s getting buzz or someone they want to save. I believe that Pam Anderson and David Arquette both went last in their day. By the same token, Brooke Burke was routinely in crappy spots.

I go back and forth on whether or not it’s a lift. It depends on how they do it during the actual dance. Women do jumps all the time that aren’t called lifts. Other than that, her quickstep looks pretty damn good.

If you look at her cha cha, Maria has the technique down. She was just tentative and probably nerves. She shows more personality with the quickstep. I am still iffy if that is a lift. It is a jump and at the most an assisted lift.

I will say CAI blatantly overlooking Mark’s lift with Shawn makes her marks even more insane. So literally creating a lift if it is part of the story is fine? Maybe this will also be part of that story? I doubt it. Sure CAI wants to make sure her fave Will is marked high and act as though Katherine never too dance lessons before. If this show is trying to overcompensate for their lack of name recognition, it is not needed!

The thing is online, Maria had positive buzz. I saw positive reports about her but I think Derek is trying to make sure she stands out because just good dancing is not enough this season.

Aww I was hoping Jaleel would get the last spot again but I guess you can’t be last every week. Not such a big surprise that William is last after the crowd went nuts last week! Have you ever seen a crowd on DWTS go that crazy?? I can’t remember if so. Well, maybe Jaleel will go right before William. I’d guess at least the last 3 or 4 since Donald is 10th. A bit surprised he’s 10th since he got a 21.

Trying to guess the scores just drives me crazy for some reason. That’s why I’m gonna guess the spots instead other than William and Donald lol.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it was Sherri doing “Proud Mary.” I think it’d fit her personality!

Excuse me for being kind of rude, but OH [censored; up to your imaginations] NO!!! Someone else is dancing to “Proud Mary”?!?! That song should be retired and put in a hall of fame. I don’t ever want to see another jive or dance PERIOD to that song. That was NICOLE’s DANCE! In fact, my favorite in DWTS history, which is saying a lot. How many performances have we had? BUT this is Derek we’re talking about. Come on Man! You can do this!! TEAM MENOUGH!!!

@SueB – Cheesecake this week – last week’s show unfortunately just didn’t give us enough fodder, as everything was so lovey-dovey. Only cheese material was Brooke being, well, Brooke – and even that gets old. And to give everyone a bit of perspective on how “Proud Mary” has become iconically associated with Nicole on DWTS – I don’t think anyone has mentioned that it was also Warren & Kym’s freestyle song in season 7. Yep – whoever has that song has got a lot to live up to.

Really? I guess its just a matter of opinion. A lot of viewers have noticed Cheryl dancing around her partners, just look at Rob last season she did 75% of the time with having them do something “sexy” to appeal to CAI and Bruno. That was a lot of bad grammar, too lazy to fix that. What Id be worried about is googling him and finding some unsavory things in his past.

I guess its just me but I don’t see all hubbub about Maria. Im shocked to see a lot of people placing at the top of the pack, I actually thought her dance was appropriately judged. Its just a matter of opinion though. I actually don’t remember when Nicole dancing to Proud Mary but then again I didn’t remember Evan dancing to that Evanescence song when they reused it last season. Oh well.

OK That is enough Princess Heidi. You may pull this post if you want but youi and Mimi calling William Mr Peanut Head is wrong and attacking people. In the past you have pulled comments critizing Derek and his partners. Derek is a fantastic dancer and watching him dance the pro numbers are great to watch. But he dances around his partners too and most of the time gets the best female partners on the show. Your Biasesness twoards Cheryl the last few seasons is getting rediculous. If William had Anna, Karina or even Pets you would be praising him and saying he is one of the front-runners. I have praised Cheryl and am probalby more Biased twords her than most of the others because she is a freind but all the pros are great dancers and have won championships in their own right. Cheryl did not dance around William. He did an awsome dance. Giving him the 12 spot is an indication he has the dance down and should be able to handle the Quick=step just fine. I Nthe 13 seasons I have watched Have never seen a reaction to anyone on the show. Gilles, Jennifer or Nicole.

Well, Rob is another story… I was talking about William and I do think he really danced.

If I may say, the female pros that almost on all dances dance around her partners are Lacey and Chelsie. Curiously Lacey down it a lot last season with Chaz. Chels always overdance her partner.

I clearly remember Cheryl dancing around Chad, Maurice, Rick (sometimes), but don’t think she is the one who dance around her partners the most.

OK, before anyone else unleashes their flying monkeys, let’s review a couple of things:

1)The comment re: William was an inside joke that was discussed on a different thread. If you had followed that discussion, you would have realized that. I can understand why you think it is an attack if you took the comments strictly from the above convo’s, but I can assure you that it was never meant to be an outright personal attack towards William or Cheryl.

2) A lot of people on this board moderate/operate their own websites, twitter and facebook pages dedicated to their favorite Pros. They take that responsibilty extremely seriously. With that said, yes there are bound to be bias’, different POV’s, and debates. The one thing that does remain throughout is the respect we show each other and that our moderators enforce. Anyone who comes to this site is expected do act accordingly and in turn, if we were to visit any boards or web pages outside of here then we would be expected to do the same.

We appreciate all of the effort our Pros/Celebs, TPTB, and the behind the scenes people produce for us each and every week. If it wasn’t for them WE WOULDN’T BE HERE and neither would anyone else.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Misunderstandings are common place especially when fans of opposite boards or Pros converge. Let’s try to stay positive and provide a united wall of support for a TV show that is near and dear to all of us.

I re-watched the premiere last night, and IMHO I just don’t think William was 8 worthy (especially not 3 8s).
It was a lot of um….simulation let’s call it Gavin and Martina didn’t look as if they should be tied for last with Melissa. I also don’t think Sherri or Jack deservecd 8s either. I think the only one who deserved at least one 8 was Gladys. Roshon deserved 8,8,8 and Katherine & Jaleel deserved their scores. I think everyone else was scored appropriately.

Did you see the dancejunkiestv video on another thread on this site? Even Tony is like….”yeah, yeah, William” yada yada. I can guarantee a lot of people think he’s overrated, and that’s their right. It is only week 1 going on week 2, so we all will need to see how they all develop. Good morning

A good rule of thumb is if you start to feel yourself get worked up over something that has been done or said – REMOVE YOURSELF from the situation. You can’t control other people, but you can step aside for awhile. It has served me well on more than one occasion. David was in the “real” bottom two one week (where they actually announce it also in an attempt to save someone) and he danced last the following week. I’m sure there are other examples, but those are the only two I can think of off the top of my head.

He was in the REAL bottom 2 in week 2, then miraculously ended up in the pimp spot in week 3, despite a routine that wasn’t all that remarkable. But I would say instances like that are the exception rather than the norm…but it’s possible that TPTB have something to gain by keeping William around, hence them awarding him the pimp spot. ETA: I keep thinking of things that need to be said after I hit post. Anyway, with each passing season, Courtney and I get less and less inclined to let shit fly unabated around here. We found that WE have more fun when the people lacking in sense of humor and thick skin are not allowed to scream and cry and throw a tantrum every time one of us tosses off an off hand comment that so and so has no hip action or just kinda stood there. While reading some of the comments this morning, it occurred to me that there are posters who suffer from “selective reading.”

Sometimes my kids need a (not physical) Gibbslap to make them think, and realize that IF THEY LISTENED, they’d know that the questions/comments/arguments had already been addressed.

Likewise, certain posters need a verbal Gibbslap, and the reminder that IF THEY READ THE BIG BLUE BOXES, and REALLY read them, they may realize that they are being…. “silly.”

Everyone here may not agree with me, but we discuss calmly, and never has anyone, mod, or poster, treated me with anything other than respect. My predictions on how folks will do tonight:

Maria – Better dance and spot for her, hopefully less nerves.

Jack – Probably on par with last week. Hopefully less cerebral.

Donald – Pleasant surprises & crowd pleasin.

Gavin – Better dance for him, but perhaps the weakest link in a strong field.

Roshon – Stumped on him. Probably will exceed expectations and definitely entertain.

Sherri – Don’t envy anyone having to perform a Jive beside Val. As his pro partners can’t keep up with him in this dance, doubting how someone of Sherri’ physical conformation and condition is going to do so. This will be as much a test for Val as her.

Melissa – Same thoughts on her as Maria though I don’t see her having such long lines and extension which is bound to standout when dancing with Maks.

William – Not surprised he’s in the pimp spot and suspect he will surprise folks. He’s got nice, long lines and partnering skills if Cheryl can get & keep the frame and feet in alignment.

Katherine – I think she’ll do an energetic Jive (btw, thanks to Heidi for the chuckle from your costuming comments). It’s more the Cha Cha, Samba and Salsa I’m curious to see her tackle.

Gladys – On par with last week minus the element of surprise.

Jaleel – Will kill it Urkel style.

As a ballroom dancer for about 10 years now, my favorite part of DWTS has always been the results show because I love to watch the pros dance. The stars’ routines are always such dumbed down versions of the actual dances that they could never use most of them in a real competition(at the lowest level they would not contain enough basic steps to even qualify as a routine and at the highest, open level which allows more than just the steps most of them still would not contain enough content to qualify as a real routine). Nor could they even take most of their routines to a ballroom dancing party and be able to lead or follow an actual social dancer. But that’s neither here nor there. I’m just glad the show is back on as its better than nothing, especially now that PBS doesn’t have the funding to broadcast the Ohio Star Ball anymore like they used to.

The William fans offended need to just ignore it. I also don’t see how William has been less or more pimped than anyone else who was over scored last week. Jaleel already comes in as a natural dancer, aka ringer, and he was allowed to dance last as if he needed that so called advantage.

I would also point out that not once has William ever compared himself to Gilles. That comparison is done by people who I guess think any hot male born in a foreign country is automatically worthy of comparison.

I don’t think William’s cha cha was great last week but I thought it was good for a non dancer with only 10 days to prepare. I think he is a valuable member to this seasons cast.

Andrea, Didn’t JR also dance last when his ankle was hurt? D-R-A-M-A Again…the “buzz” that surrounds the person. JR’s worst dance was his cha cha cha (both times–cha cha relay & his own), but guess what? I still voted hard for him because I felt he deserved to win, he was likable, and he and Karina had good dance chemistry. BUT…I also didn’t vote for him until I saw his jive week 2. I was originally for David partially because of Kym. IF William improves (like Rob did) he might grow on people.

And now that we know Sherri’s going 2nd, I doubt she has “Proud Mary”, either – that song seems like kind of a show-stopper. Something they’d save for later. I’m leaning towards Jaleel having it now…it’s crazy fast, and I think it would only benefit someone with really dynamite choreo.

@vin – The most logical choices for Gladys’ song are probably “Two Hearts” & “You Can’t Hurry Love”, but I’m leaning towards “Two Hearts” because it hasn’t been used since season 4. as Apolo & Julianne’s quickstep – “You Can’t Hurry Love” was just used in season 11, as Bristol & Mark’s quickstep. Someone mentioned “Susussudio”, but I can’t find a quickstep beat in that one. “Easy Lover” would have to be sped up too much, and they wouldn’t use it in back-to-back seasons.

That is a good point actually. Maybe TPTB would do it to provide the Pro with a challenge? You think of all of the music the Pros have danced to, not only on the show but over the course of their careers. It would be hard to challenge them or keep it interesting for them if the same songs are used over and over.

Kym had the same song with the same dance but different dancers. She had “Sing, Sing” with both Donny and Jerry and the same dance (Quickstep). Interesting.

Seems like it’s bad luck though. Kym injured her knee when she rehearsed the Quickstep with Jerry and Donny had the flu the week he had the Quickstep to that song and Kym fell down the stars also (I think she fell during camera blocking when they did the Quickstep to “Sing Sing”). Luckily, Donny caught her so she was fine. So dancing to the same song in the same dance might be dangerous for Kym. Oh never mind me, I’m just being superstitious lol.

Judges were off tonight. Katherine was good but Carrie Ann was usual odd. They way she went off on her jive. I still think Mya and Nicole’s week 2 jives were head and shoulders better. Also the choreo looked like one Mark has always done. That spin move he does that every season. But she is clearly safe and the one to beat. Mentioning Roshon’s hip hop but nothing on her dance experience.

I think Donald and his Packer fans are going to take him far. He is charming too. Jaleel was disappointing but I love him still. Maria was good and saw the flub Bruno pointed put but I loved the middle section Carrie Ann oddly did not like. I thought it fit to the music well and it was fun! She did improve but that rib injury will impact her dances.
