ABC Releases DWTS Season 14 Week 2 Confessionals, Encore Performance (Videos)
These are always fun, aren’t they? ๐
Also, does anyone need a repeat of this opening dance by our Pros? What are your thoughts on the new members of the Troupe? Special thanks to PureDWTS reader Jimmbboe2 and his You Tube Channel for sending this to us so we could enjoy this wonderful opener again.
Fantastic! I love them!!
I’m so happy Kym got to choreograph a pro dance! About time ABC let her. ๐
I loved watching Karina & Derek.
I’ve watched almost every English speaking episode of SYTYCD so I was familiar with Henry since before. I liked him on SYTYCD and think he will be a splendid addition for the troupe ๐
Does anyone know the name of the pro number song so I can get my heart back? Love that song!!
@Tony The song is Dance With Me Tonight and its by Olly Murs
@Jimmbboe: Thanks so much!!
Yes, Vogue, these definitely are always fun….thanks for posting. Can Tristan and Roshon get any cuter? I like all the couples this season so much…Can we keep them all? Donald’s suggestion in one of the interviews that everyone stay and dance the whole season and then vote on the best on the final show ,sounds good to me. I’m even warming up to William because he sounds just like my Cuban in-laws.
And thanks to Jimbboe for the vid of the pro dance. It certainly was worth another look. ๐
Derek & Karina were amazing in the pro dance, especially Derek, that shining light of performing talent! And…aren’t Derek & Maria too cute together? Whadda team!
Auntie, I wish we could keep them all too!! I love your idea!! LOL to why you are warming up to William!! I like him too and he seems very humble.
Love the pro dance!
I think this is one of the first times Cheryl and Tristan have been paired up together? A lot of the dances have been Tristan/Kym. They look great together! ๐
What is up with mark’s english accent??
And i mentioned this on another post – i think this was one of the best pro first show dances. Have we ever ranked them? that’s probably an off-season filler idea, right?
I heart Tristan.
Best show opening pro dance?? Season 5.
Mark’s mom is British and he lived in the UK for quite awhile I think. My guess is that he picked up some British English that way, and being around Katherine just brings it out. Happens to me when I’m around people from Wisconsin, even though I haven’t lived there for 20 years.
Another off-season idea: Ranking or review of Design-a-Dances?
Derek & Karina were hot together! Such beautiful/amazing performers. Hope they dance in another pro dance this season. -Stand out performers.
Yes Maria & Derek are adorable together. Great performance this week. She’s getting very comfortable performing! Excited about Team Menough!!
What surprised me about this pro dance was the couples – Most of them don’t dance together often… It’s nice to see new combinations instead of the same ones over and over again.
Also happy that Kym got to choreograph. I would love to see Derek choreograph a pro dance one day too. (and by that I mean a dance with multiple dancers like this one)
And I agree with Heidi: I think season 5’s opening pro dance is the best. (although I love the male pro dance from season 9 too)
Gitte, I think if they want to do a group number they just have to say so. Derek did it once several seasons ago to JLo, but I’ve never gotten the impression that he was interested in doing that. Although he seems to take the lead in the team dances.
I really agree that the BEST pro dance show opener was Season 5 where we got to see Mark, Julianne and the amazing Derek showcase their talent together. I’ve watched it on youtube many times and it never fails to be exciting especially the middle part of “Sexy” when couples Mark & Julianne and Derek & Cheryl run out onto the dance floor. Its pure dynamite!!
I respectfully disagree, Heidi. In my opinion, the best opening pro dance was season 6’s “Let me entertain you”.
Tons of great moments!
1. The camera catching Louis and Karina in the middle of their hard count for the group at the very beginning and them awkwardly closing their mouths
2. Some of the most incredible samba footwork I’ve *ever seen* from Louis and Karina. Samba rolls that fast are just mind-boggling.
3. Really fun bit from Mark and Derek together.
4. Good performance from the band.
5. Cheryl back in the days when she had more technical styling in her dancing.
6. Tony having a chance to do pressed cha-cha footwork. Right in his wheelhouse.
7. Great synchronicity from all concerned.
8. Slick Waltz lift from Jonathan and Anna.
Etc. In my opinion it’s not even close.
That is also one of my favorites, Steve. It might even be a tie with the one from Season 5. The point is….they just don’t DO them like that anymore. The one the other night certainly didn’t have that feel of “OUR pros doing the best dancing you can see on TV”. It might have gone that way, then they had to throw the troupe in there and mess it up. I also have to say that whenever one of the women choreographs a dance, a large chunk of it has the women doing a sort of intro to a strip tease in it. Really – all the women standing on the stair case and just switching their hips, doing the “come hither” thing to the men?? Over done. Lacey was the worst, though, about that. Dance, dammit. It seems to me that the men do a lot more ballroom and a lot more actual choreography – even the men’s solo dance from…was it season 9?…was all dancing. Then compare that with the women’s dance the next night.
You have a point, Heidi. There hasn’t been much stuff like those dances recently. Some of the better stuff has been one-on-one. Chelsie and Val’s off-speed rumba to “I’m gonna love you through it” was *insanely* amazing.
And in fairness to the women, the booty-shaking is easy and gets the crowd screaming. If I didn’t have much time to choreo something, I might lean on that kind of stuff too.
I thought the troupe was more in-sync than last season. Not that that’s saying too much.
In my mind, there were exactly two good things about Louis: one, he was the best male *Latin* technician in the pros, and two, he always seemed to push the rest of the pros in their group dances. I maintain that watching he and Karina (who is pure amazingness in heels) do cha-cha and samba together is the best thing I’ve ever seen on DWTS.
The only things that have come close for me to the greatness recently of those two pro dances we’re talking about is Derek’s AT fusion dance with Allison Holker last season…although I thought his pro Paso with Chelsie was fabulous as well and I adored the Lady Gaga Paso with Anna. I don’t actually remember the Chelsie/Val dance you’re talking about. Probably because I’d rather hear Val play violin than watch him dance – he’s kick ass on that violin.
Louis and Maks are the only two who can do group dances well, IMO. Derek’s never tried and doesn’t appear interested (although that might be a result of him typically staying in the competition too long), and I don’t think Mark is either. The women haven’t been up to par, IMO. But as far as I can remember, only Lacey and Kym have really tried it. I would imagine it’s rather difficult and you have to really want to take on the challenge.
I’m not counting dances to musical performers, since those are chopped up – Derek did do a few of those, but I don’t recall Mark, Tony, or any of the women other than Lacey doing any of that choreography…which is kinda weird, when you think about it.
Heidi ~ “Derekโs AT fusion dance with Allison Holker last seasonโฆalthough I thought his pro Paso with Chelsie was fabulous as well and I adored the Lady Gaga Paso with Anna.”
Couldn’t agree more!
I do wish the troupe had not been part of this particular group dance, and had been introduced to us with their own dance. I would have enjoyed seeing more dancing from the pro’s as they were paired for this dance, I felt like I was having to look beyond the troupe to see the pros.
Also, was it just me or was there a whole lot of gymnastics going on with 1 or several of the troupe male members!?!
Heh..Cj, I can’t respond about gymnastics without spoiling the Cheesecake Awards. ๐
Totally agree about the troupe – my initial reactions was “what the hell are THEY doing in this dance?” Annoying.
WooooHOOOOO bring on the Cheesecake Awards! ๐
Ah, cheesecake! I’ll stage a bottle of Bailey’s and a glass (I’m a classy drinker) next to the monitor so I’ll be prepared whenever you’re ready to serve, Heidi.
