Melissa Gilbert Rushed to Hospital During Broadcast Of Dancing With The Stars

Please keep your thoughts and prayers with Melissa Gilbert tonight. After her dance with Maks on Dancing With The Stars, she was rushed to the hospital. More below from The Hollywood Reporter….

Host Tom Bergeron acknowledged Gilbert’s injury at the end of the live taping, but ABC reps on site would not elaborate, only saying that a full update would be given during Tuesday’s episode.

Backstage, Gilbert and partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy’s fellow competitors helped piece together the events.

In the middle of Gilbert’s Paso Doble with Chmerkovskiy, which earned them a cumulative score of 22, she hit her head on the ballroom floor. And though she didn’t let on during the judges’ commentary, pro Karina Smirnoff told The Hollywood Reporter and other media reps that Gilbert started complaining of dizziness and of feeling lightheaded. She was so weakened, singer Gavin DeGraw carried her down from the stage’s elevated “red room” and out of the studio.

With about 20 minutes left in the episode, Gilbert was put on a stretcher and taken, by ambulance, to a hospital. Chmerkovskiy followed her.

Let’s hope she’s ok and we find out more soon.

Keep your thoughts with Maria Menounos too since she is battling injuries as well.

UPDATE: And here’s is a tweet from Melissa on her condition….

DWTS 14 Week 4 Power Rankings

After tonight, I’m kinda left thinking that “Rock Week” should have been abandoned after the disaster that was “Rock Week” in season 11.  There were a few standouts that I thoroughly enjoyed, but for the most part, the performances ranged from “meh” to just painful to watch…and I have to say, I think rock music is a bit of a punishment for these couples.  Why? Because rock music seems to embody all that is raw & wild – and yet, they have to do these dances with such control & precision.  Of course some of them are going to lose some performance quality – they’re going to look like they’re in slo-mo compared to the music!

One positive to come out of tonight, though: the judges seemed to finally start cracking down and scoring seriously.  Still a bit of overscoring going on, but I think they’ve finally taken off the rose (or vagina) colored glasses and started seeing some of the couples’ weaknesses.  Let’s hope it works to eliminate the couples in a fair fashion!

1.) Donald & Peta – And in week 4, we finally get to see the potential this couple developed in weeks 1-3 really pay off 😀 I could not stop smiling during Donald’s paso, which was the best of the night for me – you could tell he was having the time of his life out there, and his energy was electric.  Loved all the “rock” faces he was pulling – Jimmy Hendrix would be so proud! And in reality, his technique wasn’t too shabby either – paso really seemed to suit him, being the “hunky dunky” football player that he is 😉 And that crazy spin Donald threw Peta into at the end???!!! BRILLIANT.  I think this week just may have taken Donald from “dark horse” to “force to be reckoned with”.  I think this couple is doing everything right – they’re working hard, steadily improving, and maintaining a great chemistry that makes them really likeable.  Plus, I think Carrie Ann has a new crush now – and we know that can’t hurt.

2.) Maria & Derek – Broken foot? Psssh…just spray some Windex on it and walk it off.  That’s the Maria philosophy, and man – if that’s how she does a tango with a broken foot (and some healing ribs), then GIVE ME MORE, dammit! I definitely think Maria had the best tango of the night – clean & controlled, but still with enough impact to fit the song well and put on an entertaining performance.  I just get mesmerized watching the way she moves her torso – she just gets such a nice stretch through her upper body, and those arms just look GORGEOUS.  I know everyone talks about how Katherine’s posture is so awesome, but Maria’s definitely giving her a run for her money.

3.) Katherine & Mark – I think we all knew that Katherine would eventually have an off-week, and this may have been it – I had a hard time believing that our graceful, gorgeous English rose would channel the aggression necessary to really attack this paso head-on.  But I had an interesting problem with her paso, that I didn’t really expect: I actually thought she was better OUT of hold this week, even though many of us have gushed over how great she is IN hold.  It was strange – every time she let go of Mark, the attitude and the sassiness seemed to come out, and I really believed her aggression…loved the stalking walks and cape work with her skirt.  But then she’d reach out and go back into hold with Mark, and seemed to lose a little bit of the magic…plus she seemed to fumble a bit more than usual when Mark brought her in and out of turns.  But for having an “off week”, this was still a pretty damn good paso – never missed steps, and did them all with conviction.  I just hope Mark gives her the chance to really shine on her own in the future, because she did seem to really enjoy her solo work.

4.) Roshon & Chelsie – Truth be told, I started to freak out a bit tonight by how much I found myself agreeing with Carrie Ann – and I agree with her wholeheartedly that Roshon is the best male dancer (in terms of technique!) this season.  I don’t think he’s quite mastered the same athleticism Donald dances with, or the charisma that Jaleel dances with, but I think he’s mastered the technique better than any of the other guys.  And his greatest asset may also be his greatest downfall: his flexibility.  I love how he manages to extend his arms and really move his legs with ease – but I do notice that sometimes he moves a little too fast and somehow gets his feet kinda tangled up, and there’s a bit of a hiccup when he tries to straighten them out.  But man, this kid is impressing me – I think he had the hardest dance to contend with, given that it was Rock week.  What the heck was he supposed to do with such a graceful, flowing dance when everyone else is stomping and kicking around in pasos, tangos, and jives? Granted, the song they gave him was BARELY a rock song (I’m of the opinion that, if you came from American Idol and your name is not Chris Daughtry, you are NOT a rock artist), but I feel like he really attacked the dance head on and gave quite a valiant effort – and the result was lovely.  Now here’s the problem: I have absolutely NO IDEA how he’s doing in terms of votes.  All we know for sure is that he hasn’t been in the bottom 2 so far, and he’s been getting good-ish scores…but is he getting the votes, too? I’m gonna guess that the points spread will keep him safe this week, but I think he’s still gotta appeal to the middle-aged female demographic in order to stick around for awhile. Read more..

DWTS Karina Smirnoff Says Tonight’s Dance With Gavin DeGraw Is Right Up His Alley

Karina has been really busy rehearsing for two dances this week, but, she’s found time to blog and keep us updated at People.com. She thinks tonight’s dance will be right up Galvin’s alley. See why below. More at the link including a video and more on her dance tomorrow night with José Carreño.

I thought Gavin did really well with the rumba and I don’t think I have ever seen a celebrity progress at the rate that he has. We are taking it one week at a time and each week there is a huge improvement. I’m just keeping my fingers crossed we make it to the end of the finale, so I can see how far Gavin can take this because he is getting so good and turning in to a dancer.

One of the reasons he is improving is that we come into the studio looking forward to our rehearsals because we are laughing and having a good time. I met Gavin for the first time about three years ago at an event and I thought he was very cute and charming, but now that we are working together I have discovered even more sides of Gavin. He is intelligent, funny and he makes every situation better. We have a great, organic, natural relationship. I wouldn’t change a thing about our dynamic.

This week is rock week and Gavin is a rocker, so I think it is going to be right up his alley. I have some pretty cool tricks for the set up of our tango, which is a perfect dance for us because it’s all about the contrast of love and hate. Gavin is good at being loving as well as the source of my frustration – he jokes around so much that after a while I have to get stern with him.

This week I am also performing on the Tuesday results show with one of the world’s most famous ballet dancers, José Carreño, who is from Cuba….

DWTS14 Rehearsal Interviews Derek & Maria, William & Cheryl, And Chelsie & Roshon (Video)

Is this not a sweet picture of Maria and Derek, or what?!! However, note the ice pack Maria is carrying (as some of you have mentioned in other posts). They talk about her new foot issues in the new rehearsal interview below. William and Cheryl are also interviewed as well as Chelsie & Roshon at The Grove.

I love these three couples and don’t miss seeing more pics of Derek and Maria at Pure Derek Hough as well as some new videos and screen caps from last week’s show.

DWTS Season 14 – Week 4 Predicted Scores

Now we are nearing the midway point of the season. For anyone that noticed my comments in previous posts, I have broken up every season in “thirds” for easier calculations. What do I mean by this? What I have been trying to do is that for the first “third” of a season, I only use the first four weeks of scores to come up with a predicted score for the first four weeks of the current season. Consequently when it reached Week Four, I’ll shift into using the middle four weeks of all previous seasons (10 week seasons that is) and use that as a basis for predictions. The idea is that using scores from later in the season (ie Week 7 thru 10) would not make sense for predict scores for the beginning of the season (ie Week 1 thru 3). In this way I had hoped that the predicted scores would come out to be closer to accurate than if I were to use scores willy-nilly from any point of any season.

Unfortunately not all seasons are the same length – like how not all casts are the same size – so I had to find some “normalization” for the length of the season. So I broke up a season into “thirds”. In a ten week season:
– “First Third” includes Weeks 1 through 4
– “Middle Third” includes Weeks 4 through 7
– “Last Third” includes Weeks 7 through 10

While in Season 1’s six-week season:
– “First Third” includes Weeks 1 and 2
– “Middle Third” includes Weeks 3 and 4
– “Last Third” includes Weeks 5 and 6

Why is there an overlap of Week 4 and 7 in the ten-week season format? I did that specifically to keep it semi-realistic of the skill level of all the celebs, and to have a decent broad-base of the “thirds” rather than a more cut-throat approach. Since this is the first season that I’m testing these particular calculations out… we’ll see my season finale scorecard fares in the off-season.

But enough with my blabbering… onward to the predicted scores!

ROSHON FEGAN
Dance: Viennese Waltz
Average Scores:
– Age: 22.000
– Occupation: N/A
– Professional Partner: N/A
Predicted Score / Rank: 21 / 10th
Comments: Oddly enough, the only Disney kid to have any trouble with the Viennese Waltz was Season 7’s Cody Linley with Edyta Śliwińska (who was subbing for the then injured Julianne Hough), but he received a 22. Season 11’s Kyle Massey and Season 12’s Chelsea Kane received a 27 and 26 respectively… so I highly doubt that Roshon is going to score lower than Cody, will he score as high as Kyle or Chelsea? It’s rather hard to say considering that Chelsie has only done a Viennese Waltz at the beginning of the season (Season 10 with Jake Pavelka for 20 and Season 11 with Michael Bolton for 16) or at the end of the season (Season 8 with Ty Murray for 25). Middle of the season will be interesting for this pairing.

GLADYS KNIGHT
Dance: Tango
Average Scores:
– Age: 23.000
– Occupation: 26.000
– Professional Partner: N/A
Predicted Score / Rank: 23 / 9th
Comments: Being the first singer in her 60s to be on the show, there isn’t much data to work off of (how about virtually none), the closest would be Season 5’s Wayne Newton with Cheryl Burke… but they got an 18 and Gladys is nowhere near as stiff as Wayne Newton. I do think in some ways the 23 is realistic, give or take a point.

My life can be summed up in the following two quotes: 1) "I am married to engineering and am its faithful wife by day, but at night my wanderlust takes hold and the arts becomes my jealous paramour." and... 2) "Engineering is my safety net. Writing is my passion. Acting is my escape when the other two become too much." So where does dancing fit in? Pretty much anywhere at this point... =)

Dancing with the Stars Live Show in Las Vegas

Vogue posted about the Dancing with the Stars Live Las Vegas show previously, but we’re starting to get more and more details about the show. So, I thought I’d do a little update post. The show is starting with a 12 week run beginning Saturday, April 14 and you can see all the specific show dates and times on tickemaster. I love the idea of a permanent DWTS Las Vegas show even better than a Dancing with the Stars tour which they’ve done in the past.

Dancing with the Stars: Live in Las Vegas is being directed by Amy Tinkham and choreographed by Jason Gilkison (you might know him from So You Think You Can Dance). The show will run 80 minutes and will be at the Tropicana Las Vegas. I think the Tropicana Theater is a great place for the DWTS show in Las Vegas.

Dancing with the Stars alums that will be featured in the opening run, include Carson Kressley, Joey Fatone, Kyle Massey, Sabrina Bryan, Tia Carrere, Dmitry Chaplin and Lacey Schwimmer. They’ll also have a “Las Vegas Troupe” dancing with them in the show. From the pictures we’ve seen on Twitter and embedded below, we can see Iveta Lukosiute, Anya Garnis, Ryan DiLello, Jaymz Tuaileva, Armen Way, and Janette Manrera. We think Artem Chigvintsev and Pasha Kovalev might be in the troupe as well, but can’t quite tell from the picture. (Note: Props to Courtney for identifying many in the pictures) Quite a few past So You Think You Can Dance and Burn The Floor dancers in the troupe, but with Jason Gilkison involved it makes a lot of sense.

Tickets are on sale NOW and range from $40 – $89 plus tax and applicable fees. VIP packages are also available for $165 and include a top-price table seat on the floor, exclusive Dancing with the Stars: Live in Las Vegas merchandise and a post-show meet and greet and photo opportunity with the cast. Tickets are available on Ticketmaster.

The best news of all. This Friday I’ll be seeing the DWTS Las Vegas show! I’ll see if I can get some pictures and video from the show and possibly before or after.
