Melissa Gilbert Rushed to Hospital During Broadcast Of Dancing With The Stars
Please keep your thoughts and prayers with Melissa Gilbert tonight. After her dance with Maks on Dancing With The Stars, she was rushed to the hospital. More below from The Hollywood Reporter….
Host Tom Bergeron acknowledged Gilbert’s injury at the end of the live taping, but ABC reps on site would not elaborate, only saying that a full update would be given during Tuesday’s episode.
Backstage, Gilbert and partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy’s fellow competitors helped piece together the events.
In the middle of Gilbert’s Paso Doble with Chmerkovskiy, which earned them a cumulative score of 22, she hit her head on the ballroom floor. And though she didn’t let on during the judges’ commentary, pro Karina Smirnoff told The Hollywood Reporter and other media reps that Gilbert started complaining of dizziness and of feeling lightheaded. She was so weakened, singer Gavin DeGraw carried her down from the stage’s elevated “red room” and out of the studio.
With about 20 minutes left in the episode, Gilbert was put on a stretcher and taken, by ambulance, to a hospital. Chmerkovskiy followed her.
Let’s hope she’s ok and we find out more soon.
Keep your thoughts with Maria Menounos too since she is battling injuries as well.
UPDATE: And here’s is a tweet from Melissa on her condition….

Praying for both of them!
Hoping for a quick recovery for both!
Maksim is Suffering from a foot injury too. He doesn’t like to talk about it. He really needs to take care of it before it gets worse.
He is one of those who like to down play his injuries. Remember when his leg gave out last year and he kept dancing. He broke his toe the same year and kept dancing.
All the pros do that……Dance through the pain. Some pain is manageable, some pain can be a real nasty b***h!
He tries to put on a brave face because he doesn’t want to let everybody down. He does have a lot of responsibility and many people depend on him, but he really needs to focus on his own injuries and stop trying to power through all the time.
Noticed some seasons back when he gave interviews after the show and he had a stool he was dragging around and sitting on.
He has also stated that he doesn’t like to take pain pills.
Maybe he should go on his own Retreat without 40 other people hanging around and work on recovering and get completely healed.
{It would be nice if all the Pros went on a Dance Healing Retreat}
Pain can wear you out and make you become weary.
He has already slipped more than once this season. Someone needs to talk some sense into him. He looks Drained. His eyes look Tired.
Many people go to work in Pain everyday and power through, but it comes a time when you need to stop and take some time some time just for yourself and Totally Recover.
He doesn‘t want to let Melissa or his fans down.
Her story about surviving through a Broken back is inspiring.
However, if they survive tomorrow and if Melissa doesn’t withdraw, they should do some easier choreography and just try to have fun and relax.
Just enjoy the Journey!
I really thought he should have taken a season of after the whole “fell trying to drag Kirstie” move. He’s been having slips, etc.
Sweetheart! Gavin carried her down the stairs. She tweeted “bless your heart” to him.
At the end of the dance when Maks spins Melissa, her head hits his knee, causing his momentary ‘sit down’ on the floor. I don’t think her head hit the floor at any time. I suspect he may well have a swollen knee as well…
I pray they both are okay. When first reported that she was injured, thoughts immediately went to her back.
So glad to hear its not that. Whiplash is no fun either. However, with back injuries, surgeries, our bodies compensate, as with mid to lower back injuries, our upper “trunk” gets stronger, it compensates for the loss of mobility and strength elsewhere. I’m hoping this will work in her favor, with a quick and gentle recovery.
I don’t think she will be out of competition unless voted off. Don’t believe its in her nature. However, if there is any compromise or hesitation (no one can blame her) to dance , which in itself can lend itself to further injury, stepping aside for sake of her health and her family
Crap, that’s what I get for commenting via my phone. What I wanted to end with is, no matter what Melissa decides to do, hats off to her. To be even doing this is AMAZING, and inspiring.
I wish her the very best period.
Someone commented on Maks and injury, like any other athlete, you learn to work through the pain. However, I agree maybe a lil downtime in between seasons for rehab and simply letting the body heal wouldn’t be a bad thing. For him, for any of the pros dancing injured. No matter the sport, the athlete, I hate to see them in pain, risking further or permanent injury.
Ok, forgive typos if any, smartphone + me doesn’t always equal smart input/post!

I find it sweet and endearing that Gavin carried her down the stairs, and if I read the article right, it was *before* he danced. He’s really a class act.
Yes Sally, it was before he danced. You can see Karina, Gavin, Maria, and Derek chatting before the both of them dance, and it looks “strange”. Read Karina’s lips.
Anyway, Melissa left hospital without a neck brace or anyone holding onto to her so she’s fine. Athletes play rough with the same injuries, she should be fine IF she makes it through.
Elsee – It appears to me as well that her head hit his knee; thereby, causing him to slip. It may have been caused by her dress as well. It was so fast that it’s hard to tell.
While I do agree that many of the pros dance injured, mishaps are going to happen. They haven’t only happened to Maks but to other pros as well. Cheryl almost fell last week, Derek had a slip with Jenni Garth & something in his paso with Jennifer Gray. Karina fell with Ralph. Both Anna and Kym slipped in pro dances in past seasons. So having said that, I don’t think Maks ‘needs to ‘take a season off’ anymore than the rest of the pros because of a dancing mishap. It happens.
Hoping Melissa is doing ok today and able to continue if safe tonight.
Sorry – I meant to add that we really don’t know if Melissa is fine (meaning well enough to dance) or not. Just because she walked out of the hospital on her own doesn’t necessarily indicate she can dance. A girl on my daughter’s basketball team got a concussion and was withheld from playing for a week. As far as I know, football players do not play when they’ve been diagnosed with a concussion. There is a period of time before they are cleared.
Having said that, the fact she said ‘mild’ concussion may mean she was cleared to dance.
Gavin has been the pleasant revelation of this season for me. He’s such a caring person and a gentleman. I truly believe he views life as more about “the journey” than “the result”.
Hope Melissa is cleared to dance next week if she’s saved this week. I remember Evan danced with a mild concussion but he’s a good deal younger and an athlete. I don’t want Melissa to do anything to jeopardize her health!
as long as she is ok.
