DWTS Season 14, Week 5 – Who’s Dancing What…and when?
Latin Week!! Interesting that William got dealt Argentine Tango. William’s got to get his butt pulled in and find better posture. Donald and Argentine Tango?? Oh boy. This will be an interesting week. Not sure how Maria is going to do with a Salsa although Derek talks about creating new tricks in order to work around her rib issues. Not sure how Melissa is going to handle that one either, but Roshon will likely knock it out of the park – and to be honest, he NEEDS to, obviously. Jaleel drew Samba which is much more difficult, so we’ll see. Gladys drew that one too – I’m scared for her. 🙂 Actually, Roshon is the only dancer I’m fairly confident about right now. The dances seem to have been handed out somewhat against the dancers strengths. William would do better probably with Samba, Maria would probably do better with AT, Jaleel might have been better with AT…although I’m not sure if any of these dances will be a perfect fit for Katherine. She’s an excellent dancer, but she definitely will excel in the ballroom, I think. Maybe she will surprise me. If she got called out for being not aggressive enough in Paso, she didn’t have much time to pull it together. Although it could benefit her. I waffle.
As I was saying to someone in the comments, a lot of people think the Argentine Tango people are lucky – I’m not so sure I agree. That dance is amazing when done properly – the key words being “done properly” and it ain’t that easy. I’m not positive that any one of the three will be fantastic at it. Of the three dances, IMO, it will be the easiest one to look like you’re doing it wrong. The others, Salsa and Samba, there seems like there would be easy ways to cover flaws. I guess we’ll have to wait and see. Of the three, I’m most interested in seeing what Donald will do with it.
Interestingly, Derek says on AfterBuzz TV that he “got” a song he didn’t quite like, so he went to the music people and asked for a different one – for those of you who didn’t believe that they get handed songs most of the time. 😀 Just sayin’ – I didn’t start watching this show and all the media surrounding it yesterday. It was at least the day before yesterday. 😉 Anyway, another interesting thing in this video, right at the end, Derek says that he instructed Maria to listen to what the judges were saying to the other couples so she could incorporate that into her dance – and she did. Another HUGE benefit to going last…provided your pro tells you to listen to the judges.
ETA 1: Katherine fan twitter with a good track record (per Angela, one of our readers) says that Katherine is going fourth. If this is true, I find it somewhat…surprising. With 9 dancers and an opening dance by Louis and Anna (I believe), that MIGHT be the top of the hour. But I’m really surprised they haven’t given her the pimp spot yet. I’ve reorganized with my guesses on dance order.
ETA 2: Totally not surprised that Donald is in the pimp spot again. He seems like he’s very popular. Legitimately popular and not “pimped to be popular”.
ETA 3: Called William’s dance order right, oddly enough. 🙂
ETA 4: Maria’s third time in the first hour in five weeks. :::sigh::: Although, it could be later in the first hour than normal, depending on what they’ve got going on a the beginning of the show. But still.
ETA 5: Called Roshon and Melissa (I think). Question marks indicate a degree of uncertainty due to source.
ETA 6: Louis reported that he and Anna are dancing in the “middle” of the show tonight. Depending on what they call “the middle” (after the fifth dancer or after the fourth dancer), Katherine and Maria’s positions just got worse. Wait, hold the phone, the troupe is opening the show. I think it’s safe to say that the dance order is allllll messed up. Just assume no one is safe like you would any other time. 🙂

It’s going to be a unpredictable week scorewise but if i had to guess Donald and Peta will top the leaderboard for a second week.
Just sent you a link re: Gavin and the samba. 🙂
Gawd, I can’t wait. This week will most likely be my fave. I love the Latin dances the most. The Argentine Tango is my fave! Bring it on! I hope we see a lot of passion.
Thanks, Meggie. 🙂
Okay, the link was funky in the email so I’ll take your word for it. I just didn’t want to post in error. 🙂
Me too Vogue. I love the Argentine Tango. So Sexy and sometimes it takes my breath away….
I remember Laila saying before she performed her mambo, judges kept asking for others it needed to me more hot so she decided to do that with her mambo. It worked and I loved her mambo. It liven up that night. Same way Robin and Rachel said on after buzz that Maria’s tango woke them up that night. Though I blame rock week, lol. It was a bust in season 11 and a bust again. Let it go, tptb.
I still think regardless of how Katherine and William perform, they are getting tens. Katherine at this point is going to be excellent each week because she is just good. Her dance background helps. But unlike Nicole, she lacks that personality, for me, to go from each dance style and bring that extra something. I think Katherine’s argentine tango will be good. Maybe not like Nicole or Evan, but that will not stop the judges for saying she is the best dancer ever. Eye roll.
Samba is a weird dance because so few people watching at home know what it’s supposed to look like.
One of the reasons Len gets mad at it so often is because the pros remove the core content and just turn it into booty shaking. (Which the audience loves, but isn’t a ballroom Samba.)
Basically, I’m wholly aware that at the end of a typical DWTS samba, I’m one of very few people yelling, “You didn’t even do any voltas!” Samba movement is incredibly difficult; I can only think of 3 celebs who have ever done it correctly. So I think its difficulty will depend on whether the pros decide to do it “right” or not.
Gladys confirmed Samba.
http://twitter.com/#!/MsGladysKnight/status/190936479894220800
I don’t remember where I heard that Gavin and the samba, but i heard he’s struggling with it.
I wish they would have taken one salsa and one samba away and made it rumba since it would make sense w the theme.
Well, Steve, really the point is – will the judges call them on it or not. They’ve called Derek on it before, when he’s had celebs that couldn’t get the actual samba movements, but then other times they let it go completely. Pretty hard for most pros to know which way they will go, so they have to go with a more crowd pleasing routine.
I can see Katherine, Jaleel, Donald and Roshon doing well with their respective dances. There could be major problems with some of the others though.
Melissa doesn’t seem relaxed enough in her dancing to do a good Salsa. Maria as well but to a much lesser degree. Gladys and Gavin are not good technicians yet have a very difficult dance. Love them both but there could be some bleeding eyes involved. And William, while I think a good dancer, has a dance that arguably demands the most chemistry out of any. Which is just the thing he&Cheryl are lacking.
Thanks, Jennifer, but I was already aware of her Samba. Someone sent me a link for Gavin.
Based on that video that I linked to of Maria, she seems to be very much “in the moment” in terms of performance. I’m hoping after her Tango she’ll have loosened up considerably.
i totally agree with you Heidi.. AT is amazing only when done properly…and that is not easy…i think Katherine has the means to pull off a good AT…it all depends on Mark’s choreography. I think William will have problems with the posture…but Cheryl can do some amazing Tangos..so…we will see what she can manage with William, for the first time i am worried about Donald.i don’t know if he will be able to achieve that posture and intensity needed for the AT…and i don;t know how does Peta choreograph an AT..and i love Donald..hope he will pull it off..
Maria will have problems because of her injuries..but that didn’t stop her until now…i put all my fate in Derek’s creativity…he is a genius in choreographing according to needs and possibilities … i will vote for them until i drop to keep them out of that dance duel…hope every Menough fan will do the same..i don’t see Roshon, Gladys or Jaleel having problems with their Salsa or Sambas..and i do think Gavin will be one of the two dueling couples…about Melissa…i don’t know…hope she is doing better. anyways…hope the music will be more….user friendly 😀 this week!! GO MENOUGH!!!!
So the fan twitter of Katherine and mark said they will be dancing fourth tonight, katherine follows the account and is trustworthy since they have gotten right every week.

@Melissa
I have to agree with you about Katherine’s lack of personality in her dances. I used to complain about Nicole’s lack of personality in her dances (even though they technically were excellent), but after watching Katherine dance this season, I must say that Nicole had a lot more personality as a dancer.
I do think, however, that Katherine will perform her Argentine tango well. Whether I will remember it, is another issue. The only Argentine tangos I’ve remembered from DWTS have been Derek’s (Nicole’s, Jennifer’s, and L’il Kim) and Karina’s and JR’s from last season, primarily because of the footwork.
Anyway, as a fan of Roshon and Chelsie, I hope they hit it out of the park tomorrow. They said they were going to go for tens, so my guess is that Chelsea will not be incorporating any hip hop moves into the salsa (unlike the cha cha and samba), so that Len can’t dock them any points for lack of content. I’ve liked what I’ve seen of Chelsea’s salsas (SYTYCD and her salsas with Romeo and Ty).
They will need all the help they can get because I think I saw an ad on NBC that Justin Bieber’s new video will premiere on The Voice on Monday night. BTW, the commercial also indicated that The Voice will be live for the first time on a Tuesday night this coming Tuesday, and that the contestants will have to sing for their lives. I think that explains the reason for the dance-off beginning this Tuesday on DWTS and not the fact that TPTB want to save one of the good dancers from elimination.
As an aside, I thought the best salsa performed on DWTS was by Brooke and Derek. I thought they had the best samba, too.
@Iris
Could you please expand on why you feel that Brooke had a great Samba and Salsa? Because I’m always perplexed when someone mentions her as an example of great dancing and I would truly like to understand it better.
I can’t even figure out how the heck she won (except for having Derek for a partner). Her shoulders were often hunched, her feet were inclined to shift around which made the footwork sloppy and I always have a feeling while watching her routines that she divided them into chunks of time for ease of remembering so there were times when I thought she was late for a move and the whole thing didn’t flow at all.
Sorry if I sound too critical, and I do give her credit for trying to do some very ambitious moves and for just giving everything a go, but she wasn’t convincing to me in her dancing at all. It just baffles me that she won.
I think Brooke like Gilles was just a natural. I think her quickstep was splendid. I do agree with you about the chunks though. She admitted to a memory problem and lack of sleep with her newborn. But with her salsa, quickstep and ambitious freestyle ( few examples) I did not see chunking.
Gilles is another memorable argentine tango. I think Katherne reminds me a lot of Keisti. Steps executed well as expected but lacks personality and dances all seem to look alike after awhile.
I am surprised Katherine is going fourth. My her going last prediction was wrong lol. But I still expect at least one ten.
I am curious to see how the scoring will go now that there is a dance duel. Ideally, Melissa or Jaleel would be the bottom 2 for me. They are not bad but I always forget these two by the time the show ends. Whether they danced first or towards the end.
Wow, seriously?? How sure are you Angela??
Heh. Derek kicks the Argentine Tango’s ass and takes names. Fantastic dances, when done by him.
IrisandLilies – the voice has been live for the past two weeks, with fans voting, so that won’t be a change. And I doubt many of Bieber’s fans watch DWTS anyway – and they clearly haven’t been voting for Roshon prior to this since he was in a real bottom two. This just makes it worse.
I agree that Derek and Brooke had one of the best Salsa’s and Samba’s mainly from an entertainment and fun choreography stand point.
Sasa, there is good technique and then there is good entertainment value and good choreography. People can still consider it a great dance even if the technique isn’t perfect.
I love the latin dances so really excited for this week! I reaallllyyyy love the Argentine Tango, though and I can’t wait to see Peta’s cheoregraphy, which i’ve loved so far this season, its kinda like Damian’s with Pam; Meaty enough to satisfy Len but still exciting. 🙂 I do worry for Gladys and Maria. Gladys because she is dancing the Samba and she is 67 and that is such a hard technical dance ( interestingly though, this is Tristan’s first Samba on the show because he never danced it with Nancy ) , and Maria is still injured which unfortanantly is BOUND to catch up with here at some point. Similar worries for Melissa who has had, I think, less practice time. Overall tomorrow should be fun. Anything is better than last season’s week 5. Patriotism Week anybody?? 😛
Ofcourse, I mint last SPRING season’s week 5. 😀
I’m going to predict Melissa goes last or close to last so they can play up the whole triumphant return from injury angle.
@PrincessHeidi Yeah i am really sure. They have been right on the days that Katherine didn’t confirm her placement herself.
Oh, Zach – you HAD to remind us about the catastrophe that was “Patriotism Week”, didn’t you??? 😉 To be honest, when I read your post, I threw up in my mouth a little…. 😛
Hopefully, this week is gonna be a good one. I’m really looking forward to Maria & Derek doing an AT, and I think is Maks eases up on Melissa, she will actually be quite entertaining, and may move up the leader board a spot or two. I’m worried about Donald, just ’cause I’ve enjoyed him on the show so dang much, and I’d hate to see one off week wreck that. And yes, I’m worried about Gladys – hoping that she’s up to the challenge with the Samba.
@Heidi
I agree that both dances have great choreography but for me Brooke in no way pulls it off. I feel stone cold while watching her.
But I already noticed that I must be missing that “fun” chip in my head unless we’re talking about in-your-face humor filled Carson or Kyle-like fun. A lot of the dances that are deemed fun (Sherri, Donny, Brooke, etc) just go over my head and never make an impact at all.
Donald and Peta are going last
Laura beat me to it, lol. Donald tweeted they r going last.
Sasa, I think Brooke not being a performer played a part in her coming off cold. I felt that way at times from her like her paso. But when she really connected to a dance or song like the quicksteps, v waltz, foxtrot, salsa and freestyle it was great.
I will say sometimes things come off better in person. I remember one reporter who did think Ricki was overscored when watching at home changed her mind when she saw her in person. She said Ricki’s footwork looked terrific in person and she understood the scores then,
YAY! Donald and Peta going last. Either Donald is HOT in votes, or their Tango is Spectacular (a word CAI used last week). I am going to go with both of the above scenarios are correct. Go Donald!
Yes team drivingmisspeta is last so they can see everyone and do better teamdrivingmisspeta welshwiggler rochee menough feugo lest do it!!:)
I say “both” too Sandy! Can’t wait!
This season has been hard for me to predict how the judges will score and how poeple will perform, not that I have been good at predicting in previous seasons. I’m still recovering from last week’s result. Voting will take up most of my Monday evening and early Tuesday morning. I gotta vote for Roshon and Chelsie.
My first intuition was that all of the AT would score very high, but after reading everyone’s comments I guess I will wait and see. I more curious to see how everyone with the samba and salsa will do. My favorite salsas has been from Mya/Dmitry and Ty/Chelsie. For some reason, I’m thinking Chelsie and Roshon’s salsa will be super fast (based on his quickness in his other dances).
None of the teams have commented about practicing the cha-cha in case of the dance duel. The only one that I think that is safe from that is Donald. He and his kids are so darn cute!!!
I cannot wait until tomorrow 🙂 I really think its going to be a week with a lot of 24s at the bottom of the leaderboard. My friend and I tried guessing the scores for this week so hopefully I turn out to be correct since I can win 5 bucks off of it 🙂
I think it’s going to be a fun night of performances. The Argentine Tango is definitely my favorite dance, well at least if its done right. Nicole & Derek’s Argentine Tango was definitely the best I’ve seen on DWTS!
Looking forward to Maria & Derek’s Salsa!! I think Derek’s going to choreograph a very fun, sexy but technical routine. I believe Maria’s going to nail it. She has great posture and leg placement. They’re strong chemistry will be essential in this routine as well. Go Team Menough!!
Good Luck to all the couples.
Of course Donald is dancing last. He’s a football player. This is why I hate football players on this show. They always seem to win if they have an ounce of talent purely on fan base. And he went last 2 weeks ago. Seems so unfair especially to people like Katherine who always dance well but gets sucky placement every week. No wonder shes not more popular because they always give her spots early in the show except the premiere which wasn’t even last.
Not to mention all 5 pimp spots so far h e been male celebs. Guess another one will win. Sorry Katherine. You’re an amazing dancer but you lack a genital to allow you to win. So sad 🙁
@Matt: I agree with you that football players tend to do well but not all of them are good (ex. chad ochocinco wasn’t great).
@sasa: I used to vote for Lance but brooke was pretty great too.
I watched some old Salsas on YT to refresh my memory and I gotta say I was surprised at how good Melissa&Tony’s was. She wasn’t my favorite dancer by any means but that Salsa rocked, and in week 2 no less.
@vin: we’ll what I meant was the ones that were good always got further because of the fan base.
I doubt that dancing 4th means Katerine won’t do well. Plenty of 10s/perfect 30s have happened outside of the pimp spot. Plus it sounds like 4th could be around start of the 2nd hour. Had to remind myself that even Mel B didn’t get the pimp spot till week 8.
Just have a good feeling about Katherine and Mark’s Argentine Tango. Think it’s gonna be a big improvement per her Paso.
Matt, disagree Katherine has danced in sucky spots. She has benefitted frogoogle dance spots. Jack Wagner had the worst spots during his veief run. But Martina left first despite dancing later both weeks. Katherine is good enough she does not need that pimp spot. They also called her safe later last week to rile up her fans to dance. She is good. She got overpraised from the judges ( her jive was good but lacked jive content, a bit of the usual Mark choreo and it was no Nicole , Mya or Jennifer jive) and her dance experience has been kept on hidden at least on the show. She is not hurting at all.
I really do not see the whole female versus male winner issue. Even when Kristi seemed to be brought in specifically to shut critics up after Helio won. After Kristi won, Brooke and Shawn won. Then back to back wins with Nicole and Jennifer. There have been at least one or two females in the finals. It is a popularity contest and dance contest. In the end, it is whoever the public likes. Donald happens to have that charisma, fans and improving dancer.
For all the footballers on the show, only two won. Athletes in general do well. Maybe since I like Donald it bothers me less. I also like PETA. Donald is improving and not just getting by one votes alone. Unlike some celebrities on this show who made it all the way to third with a dull personality and poor dancing. No names 🙂
Judging by the pictures Karina tweeted of rehearsal, Gavin’s dance looks more like Argentine Tango…
I’m most worried for Gavin. Technique isn’t his strong suit and even if the judges decide to ignore Samba technique, I just have a hard time imagining sweet Gavin bringing enough “Carnival spirit” to his dance Monday. Hope he surprises the heck out of me, but I sense dance duel in his very near future unless the fans have totally embraced him after his super-gentleman behavior with Melissa last week.
Also worried about Gladys, but I think she’ll love being able to shake a tail feather in the samba and at least be able to sell the spirit of the dance.
I think Katherine will do better with AT than Paso. She seems an intelligent, coachable woman. I listened to the judges’ comments again and they said she went for too much aggression and intensity in her Paso and it threw her off balance and caused her artistry and lines to suffer. So if she dials it back a notch, she should be OK. The question is how comfortable will she be with the lifts?
So wish Maria wasn’t injured! Glad to hear Derek asked for a different song to the one they originally got. More pros should do that if they get something they don’t think they can make work for their celeb.
Interestingly enough, the past two weeks the couple who danced first got the boot.
Mathematically, first is still better than 2nd or 3rd.
Better with viewers in terms of being seen, but the judges’ scores usually tend to be a tad on the conservative side, wouldn’t you say? Still, it’s a worthwhile trade off.
William and Cheryl are dancing 6th
NO, actually, there is no evidence that people are scored lower earlier in the evening except for the first week.
If people are scored lower and happen to go early in the show, they also tend to be those who aren’t the best dancers to begin with.
Regardless what they are dancing, I think Roshon and Katherine will dance well and I had thoroughly enjoyed their dances so far. To me, the only other star who come close to them is Maria. If she is not injured and limited in her range I think she has a shot at winning because she is improving. Donald is great but I can still see some athletic ‘rawness’ in him that can be refined. BTW, I am just talking about the dancing technique here since he has the likability factor down.
So I guess after week 4, I have my top 4 down, although I can see one of them not making it. 😉 When are they going to do double eliminations? Are they GOING to do it?
Shocker! will going 6th per Cheryl’s twitter.
You should probably read the post before commenting. 🙂
I am re-watching Week 3 On Demand and Donald went last that week. Now, he is going last again. I really would like to know exactly how they choose the dance order.
They really need to have a rotating system to give everyone a fair chance,
And I also would like to know if it is true that they rev up the audience for William.
The comment did not appear before I posted :). But all is well.
I would hate to be the couple sandwiched between will and Kate.
I kind of think it will be Maria & Derek dancing 5th. If so, I’m not worried, Derek always choreographs a great Salsa and Maria definitely has the potential of nailing it.
TBH, I’m not to sure about William nailing the Argentine Tango but we shall see.
Good Luck to all the contestants.
That is true, Dee. Derek does choreograph great salsas and she up for the challenge. She is improving with every dance. Derek choreographed around Jennifer’s injuries well. Sure it will be the same with Maria.
The potential problem I see with Donald is the reason I think people are scared about it, they just don’t see it yet: Peta dancing around him. And I have to admit, I think this is what might happen. Granted, I have no idea how Peta does with the Argentine Tango, and this is just a guess.
I also have to point this out about Derek’s Argentine Tangos: He didn’t even know about it when they first introduced it. I remember him talking about it in Lil’ Kim’s rehearsal package. I’ve only been a Derek fan once (with Nicole) but I do have to give him credit with some really great Argentine Tangos.
I am keeping realistic expectations for Maria and Donald. I enjoy both partnerships as much as their dancing. I felt PETA did better with Donald in the paso. I am not going to expect Katherine level with Donald and Maria but entertainment and improved dancing.
Gavin also makes me smile but know he is not the best dancer. His self awareness makes him more fun to watch.
Also, if we’re talking about our favorite of these three dances:
Salsa: Mya & Dmitry hands down. I don’t even care if it’s “traditional salsa.” I thought it was flawless.
Samba: Again, I think I have to go Mya. You could tell she wanted 70s and she had fun with that samba. I wish she had picked it as her favorite dance instead of her jive just because I loved it so much.
Argentine Tango: This one is hard because a lot of them are great. But I think I’m gonna have to go with the majority and say Nicole & Derek. Another flawless routine. My favorite lift is when Nicole is on Derek’s foot and he swings her around. Just an awesome Argentine Tango.
I meant “not traditional salsa” in that last post. lol
Tony, I agree with you on the samba and argentine tango. That was my favorite lift too! So well done and wow, nothing has come close to that dance. Also loved how Lil Kim really did look like six feet tall in her tango.
I forgot how good Mya,’s salsa was but I still love the ambitious lifts in Brooke’s. I will say tie.
This new update is even more infuriating than the rest.
William 6th out of 9? Come on the heck on now.
This dance order is worse than any other seasons in the past. William and Donald are so getting great treatment with the order. William has never danced in the first half of the show. Ratings, schmatings, I tell you what, he’s not the thing I look forward too. People like Katherine are getting the short end of the stick because she’s in spots that aren’t good. I’m so tired of them casting football players and “hearthrobs” because they get treated better than anyone else and it sucks.
Was just confirmed by Mark that he and katherine are dancing 4th.
Maria and Derek are going 3rd according to her twitter
William tweeted he hurt his ankle bad in rehearsal and needed an MRI……enter that creepy Law & Order sound…dun dun!
I would never wish an injury on anyone. But with this new development, the sympathy votes will come pouring in, he will be safe and no dance off for him.
@Tony – “The potential problem I see with Donald is the reason I think people are scared about it, they just don’t see it yet: Peta dancing around him.”
Donald held up very nicely in the quickstep dancing in hold. I think he is doing magnificently. Who is scared about it? Did I miss something? Thanks. 🙂
I think Derek and Maria will do great with the Salsa!
In my opinion, Gladys who I love will have a problem. Possibly Melissa as well. The judges really should judge accordingly like they did last week.
I really think Maria, Katherine and Donald will make the finals. They seem to be the three outstanding ones.
Will, Katherine is good enough the dance order does not hurt her. If anything, she might stand out even more and those who dance before or after might be hurt. In the end, if she has the votes, she is fine. I am confident the judges will be on her side.
Maria going early does not surprise me. Seems like she alternates each week. I just hope she is okay and that salsa stand out. Hate for her to do the dance duel with her injuries.
Don’t lose hope Heidi, Derek always comes up with some memorable dances, so that people won’t forget. Plus I don’t think Maria is in any danger going home soon. That said, how many more people are getting injured this season? Must be a record!
To those who are more used to looking at the dance order “reasoning”
What should we surmise from Maria getting put in these slots in the first hour so often ??? she is getting so many votes TPTB aren’t concerned she could get voted off? Or they don’t think she (and Derek) are as imporant to the show as Meatman and the sports guy or the diabetically-sweet ingenue….???just wondering about some other thoughts.
Well, there’s also the fact that 3rd is really 4th tonight and no one is getting the benefit of going a true first.
This is how I think everything is going to pan out when all is said and done:
1)Donald & Peta 29 (10, 10, 9)
2)Maria & Derek 28 (10, 9,9)
3)Roshon & Chelsie 27 (9,9,9)
4)William & Cheryl 28 (10,9,9) the ten coming from CAI or Bruno
5)Jaleel & Kym 25 (9,8,8)
6) Katherine & Mark 26 (9,8,9)
7)Gladys & Tristan 23 (8,7,8) I would have said an even 24 but this seemed more realistic.
8) Melissa & Maks 24 (8,8,8)
9)Gavin & Karina 24 (8,8,8)
Oh Vin! I love when you predict. Ok, I’ll give it a go too….
Donald & Peta 29 (10, 10, 9)
Katherine & Mark 29 (10,10,9)
Maria & Derek 29 (10,10,9)
Roshon & Chelsie 28 (10,9,9)
William & Cheryl 27 (9,9,9)
Jaleel & Kym 24 (8,8,8)
Melissa & Maks 24 (8,8,8)
Gavin & Karina 23 (8,8,7)
Gladys & Tristan 21 (7,7,7)
There are a variety of media reporting that William may not dance tonight due to his injury. Any updates on that?
@Voguerista: i just hope I’m right. Kinda don’t wanna pay for the pizzas tonight lol
All I’ve seen so far is this People article which just quotes what he’s tweeted;
http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20587396,00.html
But tehn again they are just those digiorno ones so if I lose its not too bad lmao
LOL Vin!!!
Oh man, William hurt his ankle? I hope there’s a way to blame it on Cheryl’s shoes… 😉
LOL!!!!! Mimi (#71) Love the phrase “the diabetically-sweet ingenue”…. can I borrow it? 😀
Sally “81. Sure !! It is what pops into my head everytime she says anything…..I’ve tried to listen or warm to her more but can’t get past how “contrived and measured” she seems.
This site “supposedly” as the order as follows:
Melissa
Gladys
Maria
Katherine
Gavin
William
Roshon
Donald
http://earsucker.com/2012/dancing-with-the-stars-week-5-spoilers/
We will see if they are right with the order.
Just noticed with that order ladies first and gentlemen second. Hmm…
I would advise taking the earsucker list with a huge grain of salt – they got it all wrong last week. I think this week, they’re taking what we already know and just filling in with unknowns everywhere else.
Now William’s injured two? Why do people keep breaking??? 🙂
I am concerned with Maria always going at the beginning. Her Rumba would have gotten 10s if she danced after Katherine and William. The judges wanted to give them the first 10s of the season. I was especially disappointed in Bruno who praised her as doing something in week 3 that he had never seen (dancing on the melodic line). Every time I watch the Rumba, and Bruno says “My hat off to you”, I scream at the screen and say “NO, a 10 for you!”
I am also concerned at how little press Maria is getting. Access Hollywood and ET never mention her at all. With all the injuries and the KISS, not a word about her. I guess they are jealous of Extra!
Sally I think William twisted his ankle when he accidentally stepped on Cheryl’s shoe in practice causing her to come out of it… 😉
@Sally comment #80
LOL! That cracked me up! 🙂
Linz,
Yeah, Maria’s Rumba was really good and I thought for sure she’d receive at least one 10 for this routine. From the violins that Derek asked to be added to the song to the slowing down of the song to compliment their dance-it was exquisite. She nailed it to from beginning to end. My favorite routine of the season.
I’m hoping Maria & Derek nail their Salsa too!! The ladies may be going at the top of the hour, but the scoring my end in their favor. Well, at least I hope so!
Really rooting for Maria, Katherine & Donald!! Maria being my favorite!! Go Team Menough!!
Here’s to a great night of performances!!
They already have William wrong. He’s dancing 6th, not 7th.
Harriet (#83) – Should we read anything into the fact that when you transcribed the list, you left Jaleel off? 😉 You REALLY got me hoping there for a second or two!
@Sally (#92) I noticed that too.. Jaleel is scheduled to be on The View Wednesday. I was kind of hoping they had scheduled him knowing he would be kicked off Tuesday.
LOL, RJ! 🙂
Sally, I think that my subconscious is definitely saying how I feel about Jaleel; wathcing Family Matters is just not the same now.
Oops, on the listing from that site they put William in 6th in running order, and then Jaleel according to that site I posted earlier.
Curious to see how William is doing now and if he will be able to dance tonight?
Harriett, I’m right there with ya! 😀
But I was hoping your response was going to be “Did I do THAT???????” 😀
Sally, how could I miss that set up?!?! Did I (really) do that??
@Sasa
I can’t comment on Brooke’s technique on her salsa and samba since I don’t have any background in ballroom dancing. However, the reasons I liked her salsa and samba the best were because of her hip action and the way she and Derek were able to convey the “fun” nature of the dances. I have to say, though, that I’ve come to rank them as the best salsa and samba only recently after comparing them to others on Y**t**e. I can’t say they stuck in my mind right after I saw them.
I voted for Brooke and Derek, but if they were in another season I might not have. If I recall correctly, there wasn’t much competition that season, and Brooke was the standout dancer. I probably also appreciated the fact that she had no dance experience (but then I’m one of those DWTS fans who flip flops on the ringer issue each season depending upon which team I’m supporting.)
You know, one of the things I’m really taking away from Season 14 so far, is that Rob Kardashian was a better dancer than people gave him credit for.
And as much as I’m enjoying Gavin, I can’t quite see him doing the Samba
@Iris
Thanks for responding! I don’t have ballroom dancing background either. Just some things stick out to me which I learned by watching the show.
I agree that the competition wasn’t as fierce then as it is now although Lance (helped by his ringertude) was the better dancer in my eyes. And Warren was SO fun to watch with his “I’m a dancer even though no one would expect it, HA!” attitude.
You, like PH, mention the fun factor in Brooke’s routines. As I already said, I think I’m blind to certain kinds of fun as Brooke is not the only example where I don’t feel it and plenty of people do.

I’m seeing some people saying on Twitter that Maks and Melissa are going first. I’m not sure how accurate it is though. I know only a few hours ago Melissa said she didn’t know when they are dancing. So who knows at this point.
If William by chance does not dance tonight. It would be a no brainer that there would be no elimination this week. Am I correct?
And this Ballroom Battle Cheryl twitted?
Ballroom Battle TONIGHT, new segment of #DWTS on http://ABC.com, starting at 8pm. Me vs. @Karina_Smirnoff – Check it out!!
@Margaret – I remember when Melissa Rycroft was injured the judges scored her rehearsal footage. I would doubt that they would blatantly show that much favoritism to William. But you never know.
Margaret, William will be dancing tonight. Cheryl just tweeted to vote for them and how they need votes more than ever.
Carlos, I just saw that too. I wonder if it’s the deal they filmed last season?
Chelsie tweeted that she and Roshon are dancing 8th.
I think it is, Vogue
DWTS Maksim Fans just tweeted that Melissa and Maks are 2nd, behind Jaleel and Kym who are 1st.
If Maria can dance with cracked ribs and stress fractures in her feet, then William should be able to dance with a twisted ankle. Of course, Maria doesn’t have as much meat on the bone to support as William and in addition to his own weight, William will have to lift Cheryl in the AT. So I guess we have to factor in the weight differential before we compare the toughness of Greek vs. Cuban genes. On a serious note, I’m sorry we’re seeing so many injuries this season. 🙁
This is the season of injuries, Cidra… very disapointed…
I’m always anxious for Chery’s AT. Not because that one with Gilles (that have no much AT content, btw… Lil’ Kim’s had more), but because all she learned on Forever Tango. After that, she danced with Rick Fox (hated his outfit) and the difference of height didn’t help; and she did a pretty decent dance with Rob. I really was hoping she was going to do an incredible A. Tango with William…
I was hoping for Anna dance the AT with Jack too… =/ Hope she gets a ringer next season. She deserves.
@Sasa
I’m one of those viewers who never sees the “fun” in the dances performed by the football players on DWTS. I guess my vision must suddenly become impaired when they are on the floor.
@Carlos, I still think it’s a very good and entertaining season. I just feel bad for the celebs who are banged up. Yes, I too would love to see Anna have a real contender again.
@Iris
I think that showing motivation, focus and drive, which football players often do, masks the lack of finesse in movement they tend to have. I can totally understand how it could bother someone enough to not get into them.
@Carlos@Cidra
Anna and Tony are certainly due a couple of ringers.
I know it was a couple of seasons ago – 3 maybe – but Evan was Anna’s ringer I think. You didn’t say that there couldn’t be any other ringers the same season. 🙂
Guess who wll be there to support Melissa tonight? NELLIE OLSON! lol ;
https://twitter.com/#!/Arngrim/status/191953275627651072
I’m seeing a lot of things called, Roshon 8th, Jaleel 1st, Melissa 2nd, but I don’t buy it till the Princess posts it.
@Carlos – don’t we say that about the injuries every year? Seems like it. That is why, for me, this is a spectator sport. Also, those who cannot do, watch. and wish we could do. with Derek. preferably. 😉
No Margaret, there would be an elimination regardless. There almost certainly has to be a double elimination at some point, so they will definitely give someone the boot. Besides, there is precedent of people not dancing before and still being voted on. Not sure how the judges would score him without a camera block video or a dress rehearsal video.
It says on ABC.com, though, Carlos.
This is just too funny. More from the actress who played Nellie;
https://twitter.com/#!/Arngrim/status/191948242546728960
I love Anna and Tony, and hope that they are back next season with hopefully more capable dancers. I adored Martina and Jack this season for their work ethic and personalities. If Tony and Anna get ringers and make it to final again, I hope they really think on their Freestyle (that seemed to hurt both of them with Evan, Melissa, and Stacy).
Is their a list here on Puredwts on which pros have had Ringers (fan vote, previous dance training, etc.)?
Anna had one of the biggest ringers ever in Evan, Carlos. She hasn’t been totally screwed. 🙂
Yeah, Evan was Anna’s ringer and Melissa was Tony’s.
Love Anna but she seems to have a hard time coming up with creative choreography under pressure. I felt so bad for her when she fell apart trying to come up with a freestyle.
I know both of them are arguably not the best choreographers but that is precisely why I would like to give them another chance at winning- to see if they can do it or is it just out of reach.
@voguerista..that is too funny…Nellie coming to watch Half-pint….Melissa better hope she isn’t sitting near the dance floor in tripping range. 🙂
@Cidra definely this is the most exciting season in years… =]
@sasa I’d love to see Tony and Anna together in a finale. They deserve. =]
@Beka ahahahahah but this time is different, I think… I’m not sure, but guess this is the season has the more stars injuried.
@Heidi I know that. I’m not complaining… Tony has his too: Stacy and Melissa R. But for both, there was some years time ago…
Do you guys know anything about double elimination this season?
LOLLLL Auntie!!
Speaking of Melissa and Nellie. What about her sister Sarah? Has anyone noticed if she has been in the audience.
Tony has had a pretty good string of really talented dancers. Audrina, Melissa, Chynna, Stacey, Marissa. Even Susan Lucci was a decent dancer and stuck for a bit. I don’t think he has too much to complain about, really. No, they weren’t all ringers – but there was talent there.
Have not heard a peep, Carlos – which is really odd. I imagine they will spring it on us right after the dance duel is over. Something REALLY cruel.
The only thing I can think of that they might do for William if he can’t dance tonight and they don’t have any footage on which to score him (which I find hard to believe) is to automatically put him in the bottom 2 dance duel tomorrow night. I know they’ve done it a few times on SYTYCD – if someone was too hurt to dance on the performance show, they would automatically be put in the bottom 3 the following night, and would have to dance for their life (that is, if they weren’t still too hurt to do that). I do remember they actually wussed out of eliminating someone the week that Billy Bell, their golden boy in season 7, was too injured to perform – drew a lot of uproar from fans. Don’t think they’d be able to get away with it on DWTS, though, given their current predicament with already being faced with a double elim.
Just a thought, but could it be possible that William is injured severely enough that he might have to withdraw? I know Cheryl’s begging for votes, but as I recall, they played it off the same way when Misty May Treanor & Tom DeLay had to withdraw – acted like they would still be eliminated based on votes, but then they ended up withdrawing on their own accord.
Courtney – I think the fact that we haven’t had an update does not bode well for William – if he had gotten the ‘all clear’ after having the MRI this morning, I’m sure William or Cheryl would have tweeted something to that effect. I think they’re probably freezing and taping him up the best they can, and hoping for the best.
@PH
Not to underestimate any of those ladies but the guy who had Kate Gosselin and Wendy Williams and Martina (as much as it pains me to put her up with them) has been through some frustration and resignation.
And he never seemed to get a capable dancer with a good sized fan base. It’s either or.
Sarah was in the audience last week.
Dwtsmaksimfans tweeted that the order of 2nd was confirmed by Melissa herself. Considering Melissa & Maks both follow that fan twitter & would see those tweets I feel pretty confident they are going 2nd.
Heidi, indeed.
The DDuel ends one week before the team dances (if they will be)…?
Thanks. I didn’t see her. 🙂
Looks like our dance card is almost full.
Do we know yet what is happening at the beginning of the show? – i.e., what’s the filler?
Thinking of filler…and wishing there was less of it…unless it was chocolate filler…with salted caramel…I digress…
does anyone know when they are going to move on to the team dances or 2 dances per week since they are already learning 2 dances due to the dance-off?
I seem to remember that some seasons they started when there were 8 contestants left, but lately more like 6… anyone?
Well, there are very few people who could dance with Wendy, considering the smaller stature of most of the men compared to her. As for Kate and Martina?? He got well known from Kate and I would lay money on him being honored to dance with Martina, much the way that Tristan is with Gladys.
@PH
But the fact of the matter remains that he got some ladies who just couldn’t dance. It has nothing to do with him being honored or not to dance to Martina. I’m a big of hers and I admire her greatly. But she was NOT a natural mover, much like the two mentioned above. Gladys is better then that dancing-wise. She can shake it and knows how to enjoy herself out there.
I would say some of the others who seemed to just not be able to move were (from the top of my head): Macy Grey, Carson, M. Bolton…
Louis and Anna are dancing something louis called a…was it Sambo?? Combo Mambo and Samba?? Something like that. Pretty sure they are opening the show with it.
Well, Sasa, thems the breaks. They want those people on the show, they don’t audition and sometimes people can’t dance. I don’t think they will start auditioning in order to give Tony – not the greatest choreographer around – a good dancer with a fanbase.
Yep, PH, Anna got a great ringer in Evan. It was bad luck for her that she got him the same season Derek got Nicole. Really enjoyed the dancing, that season!
@Sasa, You hit the nail on the head. In addition to just loving Anna, it’s that Season 10 freestyle meltdown that really makes me want to see her back in the final. She’s more of a traditionalist and it shows in her freestyle stress. I’d love to see her overcome that.
@Cidra – I think that is why it would be interesting to have a break-down of the Pros. what their strengths and weaknesses are dance wise. Like, I love Anna, and Chelsie, and Tony, and well, all the pros, but I’m not (and I wince as I write this) positive that they all have the chops to make it to the end. So maybe it is not completely about who gets the great dancers, but who has the great choreography. anyhoo, I would love to see a dance master’s breakdown of the Pros.
Cheryl said they’re going to star airing the ballroom battle tonight as well. Cheryl vs Karina tonight.
Wanted to say:
Maria is dancing with how many injuries now?!
And Melissa is still dancing after concussion.
Why should William withdraw?
@Sandy (#67): People are just “worried” that he might have an off week. People don’t see him doing that well with the Argentine Tango. My main concern isn’t that he can’t dance, but that I honestly think Peta might dance around him. Whether or not that’s really what people think/are “worried” about is a whole ‘nother story. I’m just guessing.
#146, I dunno Maddy. Possibly because some people value their bodies over a reality show? If I broke something during the show, the chances are, I’d be withdrawing!
I’ve always assumed Tony was paired with Kate because he had the best temperament for dealing with what was likely to be a train wreck. Also, since that was the season Erin was on and she’s so tall, she could only have danced with Maks or Tony — and pairing Maks up with Kate would not have been pretty. Though it would’ve been highly entertaining!
@Donna
I’d pay good money to watch the Kate&Maks pairing. lol
One of them would not come out of it alive but I’m not sure which one.
Again…they say it’s on ABC.com, when they tweet about the ballroom battle. Not sure at all it will be on the live show.
Maria’s injuries can be danced on. It’s very possible that Williams injury CAN’T be danced on. Hence the MRI. Which he tweeted and said he gets the results for in 30 minutes.
Guys i have had a fractured ankle. It hurts like hell! Cheryl probably doesn;’t think william can dance as well when putting full pressure on it. We shall see. Thats why she is asking for votes more than ever! Lets hope he doesn’t do further damage!
I agree, Princess Heidi. One injury really cannot be compared with another injury. It has nothing to do with how “tough” someone is. I sure wish we had a season without injuries. Maybe in the fall.
I think it is also the timing. It sounds like Maria’s rib injuries were early on And is slowly healing. She basically learned to dance with pain. This is different. They are going to milk this, lol.
Since they are putting filler early, seems like Katherine has a good spot. Granted I never feel bad where she dances since she has the judges on her side and she is good. Jaleel has a tough spot and if his dance is just okay and not memorable, wonder if he will fall to the bottom.
I agree that if Will does not dance, he should take part in the dance duel.
IF a doctor tells him not to dance on it, doubt he’ll dance tomorrow, right? Producers must be scrambling about now to include footage, etc.
Maks tweeted they are going second
Now I am confused..
If Will does not dance tonight, doesn’t that mean he has to pull out of the competition. It wouldn’t be fair for him to sit it out tonight unless he is getting a big fat Zero for his dance.
come on ppl … chill a little … if William’s ankle is too damaged he won’t be able to dance…and he shouldn’t!! this is a dance show…it doesn’t have to mean risking someone’s health over it…if he can dance around it, he will..if not..i think the judges can score him tonight by watching the rehearsal tapes.
Sandy – This is all JMO, but if William can’t dance just tonight, I’m thinking TPTB will pull out the ‘ole loose-leaf rule book, and cobble some way together for him to get a score – like the judges reviewing rehearsal footage, or something like that. But it could be bad enough to send him home…
Sally, which in my opinion, would be highly unfair to the couples that dance. We’ve all seen how well things can go in rehearsals, only to have them mess it up on the show, and that’s what they get scored on, not how well the rehearsal went. But, sadly, you’re probably right.
I’m with ya, Marlene. Again, JMO, but it’s got everything to do with ratings, not fairness. 🙁
Well they could wheel William out in a wheelchair and just sit him there and Bruno would give him a “9”…
Sandy, there is that. And now there is radio silence on Twitter from William. He most certainly has his results by now, but has likely been told by TPTB not to indicate one way or the other what they are. More ratings.
Hey Guys, if you haven’t yet, see this new post for what Louis Van Amstel is reporting on William’s injury;
https://www.puredwts.com/2012/04/16/dwts-louis-van-amstel-with-some-last-minute-thoughts-a-report-on-injuries-before-showtime/
So that sounds like he broke his ankle and is going to dance? Oh man. Somehow, I just don’t think that’s smart. But it’s not my ankle!
Well, Louis just reported that he’s dancing with Anna in the middle of the show. Depending on what they call middle, Maria and Kath’s spots just got worse and William’s just got better. Hmmm…week 5. I think it’s next week when the running order starts to matter less. Or the week after.
Then again, with the dance duel, odds are it won’t matter, depending on who falls to the bottom 2.
I can’t believe any doctor would give the green light to dance with a broken ankle. Makes me think its not as bad as we think.
Well, Cheryl is hoping they make it through tonight. I hope he’ll be able to dance.
BTW, Tony is an Emmy Nominated Choreographer. Just saying Heidi.
How many years ago was that Jennifer?? Just sayin’.
Since Season 2, same time as Cheryl. So what?
many pros don’t have one. How long did it take mark to get one?
Ummm, I didn’t see anything wrong with Williams foot/ankle.
So what – that was pre-SYTYCD. It’s nearly impossible to get a nomination on DWTS nowadays. And everyone needs a break, including Tony. His choreo isn’t there.
Mark got one when it was difficult to get one.
Mark comes up with some amazing choreography. I hate to rank people but Mark’s creativity is certainly above Tony’s (and, when he’s on his top game, above anybody else’s on DWTS but that’s just my personal opinion).
He can’t beat Derek’s in my book, JMO!
When he’s on the top of his game, Mark comes close to Derek.
Tony can do amazing choreo when he’s on his game. When he has a good dancer he does as does fine. I don’t get all the ” Tony doesn’t do good chereo ” stuff. He does need a break, thats for sure but you can’t judge someone’s chereo based on someone like Martina or Kate or Wendy. His chorography was as strong as anybody with Audrina and Chynna, they just didn’t get votes. His chereo with Melissa was Amazing! His latin is also one of the best of anybody on this show, he’s a two time rythym champion, and an emmy nominated choreographer is an emmy nominated chereographer no matter how long ago. He does need a break, though. Alot of them do.
Good on Mark but got to say his choreo is too derivative. Though his tango for Katherine tonight not Emmy worthy but at least subtle. That is big for him. Actually of the current pros, I think Derek, Kym and Karina are the best. Emmy nom or not ( for the last two).
No denying Tony is good and a champion but for dwts, I think it is different. I think he goes too safe with his partners even the ones with ability.
When it comes to the women – have any of them other than Lacey choreographed anything NOT with a celebrity partner?? I ask that because I was thinking about it earlier today when someone said something about Kym. I didn’t think her group pro dance that she did earlier this season was that good – not bad, by any means and kudos for her for giving it a shot. But with a celebrity partner she just excels – she, like Derek, knows all the ways to get attention on her partner. A combination of flash and substance, a big smile and just FUN.
