DWTS Season 14, Week 6 – A “Surprise” Double Elimination??
Eh, it’s only a surprise if you haven’t been paying attention to me the last few weeks. I’ve been saying all along they have to have one to get to where they need to be in week 10 – unless they plan on going 11 weeks, which has only been done once before. Anyway, Robin Leach’s Vegas Deluxe claims the double elimination is next week:
Tonight, the program institutes the new dance-off policy to tackle fan popularity voting, and it will be the judges who end the run for one of the celebrity teams. Next week: A surprise double elimination on the same terms!
Has the show ever had a finals with 4 couples instead of 3? I wish they would have considered a final 4 this season instead of this double elimination stuff. I want Derek & Maria to have a chance at making the finals but right now it doesn’t seem likely . 🙁 Seems like the show is really pushing for a William, Donald & Katherine finals (is it just coincidence that these three got the crowd-pleasing AT last night? puh-leaze!).
hmm…it will be interesting to see how the do it. I kinda think it will be bottom 3 and the judges will choose to save one after the duel.
Eeek, next week is going to be a painful one.
@ mari
i wouldnt be too worried about maria just yet, i think she is in the same boat as roshon (as in the judges favor). So, i will bank right now william and donald never see a bottom two. I think the judges will save maria and roshon over anyone not named katherine….so it will only get interesting if they are in the bottom two together
@Mari:
I did wonder the same, but not because I want anyone to make it to the finals (though I admit I am partial to Katherine, but this is neither here nor there), simply because TPTB seem to spin this season’s marketing into “the most competitive season ever”, and having four “talented” dancers into the finals would play very well into that hand. I guess we’ll see what happens next week.
IMO, it should be Gavin, Gladys, and Melissa who are the three going home this week and next. But if Jaleel were to go instead of any of those three, I’d be a happy camper…especially if it was TONIGHT!.
Just as it seems odd to not have Gladys on for motown week, wouldn’t it be bad to have her voted off on motown week?
Good point Sheery. I’d rather her be voted off this week, than next.
I think as another poster mentioned on the dacing by the numbers post, if Gladys does get eliminated tonight they would bring her snd the pips back to sing next week. Which now that i think of it, makes perfect sense
Kind of wish then Gavin would have went before rock week and had him instead of 2 nights of KISS.
Sooooo, if there’s classical week we need Kath voted off prior to that—oh, wait! She already sang on the show 🙁
Have they ever done a hip-hop week? That should help Roshon 🙂 Maybe even do a freestyle week and then whoever makes finals has to do ANOTHER freestyle…hehehe.
I would not be sad to see Jaleel go either Vogue. I feel bad for Kym getting stuck with Jerkel, but copping a feel of Kym’s booty was the last straw…
By the way Jaleel’s attorney just recently filed a motion for a gag order to stop his ex from talking to the media. The judge denied his request. In my opinion if his ex was stating things in the media that were blatantly false or slanderous, then the request wouldn’t have been denied.
So the judges get to eliminate 2 couples in 1 week? 4 couples over 3 weeks? That is outrageous and has pretty much ruined this potentially great season.
Why not just wait until week 8 to do the double elimination after the silly judges saves weeks are over?
My predictions for next week is Melissa & Gladys out, the week afterthat Jaleel will be sent home letting us the final five: roshon, donald, maria, katherine and william.
Two people getting the boot next week. I know who I hope will be going home, with that being said, good luck next week to the following: William, Roshon, Donald, Gladys, Jaleel and Maria! Make MoTown week great!!
Do we know if they’re just doing the double elimination once or are they doing it the same weeks they do the dance duels?
If they do the double elimination more than once, they won’t be able to have a final with three couples.
If I had to guess who is going to be in the double elimination dance off (this is a oddly fun sounding idea since it can kill two birds with one stone/knock down ten pins with one ball…..the latter is something my grammer school taught me back in the day lol) I’m going to predcit Jaleel (even though i think he is going to do good w that dance), Melissa (she can’t avoid it forever), and as much as it pains me to say it Roshon (people just don’t seem to like him lmao)
@Vin, if your bottom three ended up in the alleged double-elimination dance-off next week, the judges should, logically, save Roshon since he’s the best technician. That said, when has logic every entered the judges’s brains.
If they wanted to do a more reasonable double-elimination next week they should announce the bottom three, then toss out the team that had the lowest combined score+votes, then let the other two dance off and let the judges save one of them. That way the audience gets to eliminate one and the judges get to eliminate the other.
This is the first time I’ve heard anything about a double elimination ….. and why is everyone so dead set to see Maks and Melissa go home? Gladys, Jaleel, and Roshon should ALL go home before Maks and Melissa. Even William Levy, who I think dances well, doesn’t get as hard of routines as Maks gives to Melissa…Cheryl just dances around him and everyone screeches…Bruno practically drools over him. I’m crazy about Donald and Katherine… but I’ve watched this show from day 1 and every season the judges get tougher and tougher on Maks….and he is always partnered with someone that isn’t as young and hot as Derek and Mark…. and I’m sick of them. Maks is one of the main reasons I watch…. and I’m sick of the judges. It’s nothing but a damn popularity contest instead of a true dance competition. Take a look at the age of the partners….why do Mark and Derek always get the young ones…..? Mark particularly is a showboat…. It’s a great season but the judges are scoring way to high and as usual, have picked out their favorites, and it will come down to their votes and the hell with the watching public.
Well, no, Della…I don’t think that Roshon and Jaleel “should” go home before Melissa – I think the two men are better dancers than her, Roshon by a good deal. I just happen to LIKE Melissa better than I like either of them. I also don’t see where everyone is “dead set” to see Maks and Melissa go home.
As for Derek always getting young and hot partners?? You’re new here aren’t you? That old song and dance doesn’t work here. Take a good look at Maks partners. Then look at Derek’s and tell me he “always” gets the young and hot ones.
Derek certainly gets a lot of “broken” partners though! “Y she keep brakin’??” (Love it!! Thanks again for that one! 😆 )
For me, it’s usually hard enough to see one couple leave during the last couple weeks. I don’t think I’d want a double elim then. Wonder why they didn’t do it earlier in the season. Gives more couples a chance to dance a little longer (altruistic) or judges an extra later-week chance to get rid of a poor dancer that’s hung around (cynical) – can’t decide which. Now, if they want to stick with the usual program of 3 vs. 3 team dances in Week 7, they’re stuck with it next week.
Is it true that next week’s dance duel is the jive? If true—-so interesting to see bottom 2 next week.
Geez…I can’t believe that they would do that, sheery. That would be just ridiculous. So EVERY couple would be learning two new dances every week – that’s crazy. I suppose that it prevents the person saved from just using the same dance again in the duel or from being more rehearsed…and it means that couples that aren’t dueling are learning new dances in advance…okay I think I just talked myself out of being pissed off. 🙂
IMO- they should just say the dance off will be a cha cha so the celebs only have to learn one dance just in case. So what if week after week the same person gets to perfect his cha cha in the dance off.
I’m sure I read(or heard) somewhere that the dance for the “Dance Duel” will change every week. That makes sense to me.
But of course, Jive is a hard dance, if the duel will be between Roshon and Melissa/Gladys/Jaleel, Roshon will stay for sure. So, I think they should choose a dance that fits everybody like waltz.
I also heard that the dance off dance will be the jive next week.
It definitely gives advantages to the better and younger dancers in my opinion.
I think it’s also an advantage to dancers who have already had jive (or whatever that week’s dance is). They may have to learn a routine, but they already know the basics and can re-use stuff they’ve already practiced. Jaleel’s already had jive, so what if he’s up against Roshon who has not?!
Yeah, I posted on another thread – Peta said on Twitter the upcoming Dance Duel is the Jive… 🙁 It gives an advantage to couples that have already done it, and the younger – it’s LOUSY for Gladys.. 🙁

[…] …well, now that I’ve wasted enough space so as not to catch the ire of some of the Twitter folks who haven’t watched the show yet, I can say that it ended up being Gladys & Roshon in the dance duel, with Roshon being saved by the judges and Gladys sent home. And despite the fishiness of having 4 couples in jeopardy, there was no double elimination, as was previously rumored. […]
