ABC Releases DWTS Press Release For Next Week’s Entertainment, Dances, and More!
ABC MediaNet has released an official press statement for the entertainment for next week’s Dancing With The Stars. “Motown Legends” Smokey Robinson, The Temptations, and Martha Reeves will all be performing Monday night as well as Australia’s hot pop group, “Human Nature”. Heads up “Boyz II Men” fans! They will be performing on the Results show Tuesday Night. Below are more details including info on the couples dances and the following week’s “Classical” theme. Note how Dancing With The Stars pros Dmitry, Val, Louis, and Anna will all be returning to dance again. It’s going to be a fun week! Lots on tap! ADDING Important Note: Also (as @ElmariL was just reminding me at twitter), don’t forget and be forewarned there is a possible “Surprise” Double Elimination as our Miss Heidi reported in a previous post.
“Episode 1406 & 1406A” – This week’s episode of “Dancing with the Stars” presents a Motown special with live performances from Motown legends Smokey Robinson, The Temptations and Martha Reeves throughout the evening. The legends kick off the show, performing an unforgettable live Motown medley accompanied by the Troupe. For the first time ever, each artist will perform with the talented “DWTS” band and musical director Harold Wheeler before each of the remaining eight couples begin their competitive dance. During a special performance with dancers Anna Trebunskaya and Val Chmerkovskiy, Smokey Robinson will perform his No.1 hit song, “Tears of a Clown.” Also joining in on the excitement is vocal group Human Nature, performing some of Motown’s most popular hits throughout the evening. And to finish the show we will feature a special Motown Dance Marathon, where the couples will be showing off their classic dance moves from the Motown era, MONDAY, APRIL 23 (8:00-10:01 p.m., ET) on ABC.
During Tuesday’s show, Best-selling R&B group of all-time Boyz II Men returns to the ballroom with an incredible performance of their latest single, “One More Dance,” off their landmark 20th anniversary album,” Twenty.” Their performance will be accompanied by Dmitry Chaplin and Anna Trebunskaya. The show will open with an amazing number from the Troupe, Val Chmerkovskiy, Peta Murgatroyd, Louis Van Amstel and Snejana Petrova, featuring a medley of Motown hit songs. This week’s “AT&T’s Spotlight Performance” spotlights the beautiful story of Michaela DePrince. And this week’s “Macy’s Stars of Dance” performance is the long awaited television debut of the hottest new contemporary dance company in America, Shaping Sound. The dance performance is choreographed by and features Travis Wall, Nick Lazzarini and Teddy Forance. The performance is a special preview of the following week’s Classical theme with an arrangement recorded by Aston, a classical group from Sydney, Australia, that create symphonic masterpieces out of pop music. The Dance Duel continues, and this week the bottom two couples will dance the Jive to the same song at the same time as the judges decide who the next eliminated couple will be, TUESDAY, APRIL 24 (9:00-10:01 p.m., ET) on ABC.

Oh boy, Smokey Robinson’s “Tears of a Clown” is one of my favorites. I love his music.
Gosh a lot going on this week, I am exhausted just thinking about it, let alone dancing it. Whew!
Sounds like a fun show but three dances for this week? Too much show! No matter what they say, in the end, the level of dancing is similar to past seasons. Overscoring does not hide that. They just lacked obvious train wrecks like Kate or Macy Gray. Also Katherine is not near the best dancers on the show and William is a poor man’s Gilles in my book. This is not Nicole and Evan filled season. It is a lot to ask.
Look forward to the Shaping Sound group. Love to see Derek dance with them. Boyz ii men! Motownphilly!
Looking forward to theme though. Motown is awesome and classical week should be good.
Whoa! Poor mans Gille? I don’t think so. William is amazing to watch dance. I think if they had a dancing with the stars and a regular person it would make it really interesting. But I am completely mesmerized by William Levy. Love to watch him dance. Or just sit there or stand there or just there lol.
that release made it sound like there wouldnt be a double elimination….”bottom two and jive”
So no double elimination? Or maybe they’re just not saying?
Hmmm… I agree with Melissa. Three dances to prep is way too much this early.
Excited about the musical acts though. Should be a fun show Monday night! 🙂
OMG, I love Aston! One of my favorite groups! 🙂
I just added a special note about the “surprise” double elimination as Heidi reported to us in a previous post. The key word (as Elmari was reminding me at twitter) is “surprise”. EEEK! 😯 hate it!!
Also, I don’t understand how they will have a double elimination if they are going to have a Dance Duel too? Or will there be more than two couples in the Dance Duel? Weird.
@Vogue – It might not be such a big “surprise” now. Starting this week, the weeding out begins. The weakest links will tumble and only the stongest will survive. Alot rides on how bad you want it. I really don’t think Donald will have a problem keeping up.
They have to double eliminate, don’t they? If not week 6, week 7 for sure…I think.
Someone said that the couples do their regular assigned dances, and then the mambo marathon is scored. The scores would be added to their already achieved scores to give them an overall total. Then the little accounting fairies will figure out bottom THREE. The lowest score combined with fan votes gets eliminated first. The other two do the dance duel jive.
I only mention this because they knew about last week’s premise earlier than when it was circulated (doesn’t mean of course that is will still be accurate).
Off Topic—-No, Gavin is not bald 🙂

my only question is how are they gonna do the dance duel if its double elimination. Are there going to be a bottom 3 couples?
It sounds like the first elim is the overall lowest score/vote getter; the second elim is the loser of the dance dueling jive.
The Motown Dance marathon sounds like they make up their own moves that they used when they danced to “Motown”…unless I am reading it wrong…Gladys would really only be the one with any “motown” moves….
Can’t wait for the performances. The Results show sounds great. Last week’s results show was kind of tepid…the troupe and the Macy’s spotlight dance were not very good…and Selena Gomez should have lip synced.
Looking forward to Monday’s show
While I agree it’s a tough assignment to slap the couples with 3 routines to learn, this will separate the contenders from the pretenders as Len likes to say. Sandy (#10) is right Those who are fit, can learn choreo, AND handle the pressure will make it through. The big down side for me is the overall quality of dancing has to suffer. That sucks. I’d rather see each couple give us 1 good dance (the very best they can produce), rather than 2 (maybe 3) sloppy thrown together, half-baked dances.
Still it sounds like two very busy exciting nights! Hope the production muppets can keep up and keep the ferrets off the equipment! 😛
sounds good.
Well, that’s the thing, Cidra. I would rather see one really good dance from each couple than MAYBE a good dance out of two or three couples while the rest suck canal water. As I was saying months ago, it would be cool to have a season where everyone is good or has potential to be really good. This season they are close to that (although I don’t think either Katherine or William can compete with the likes of Nicole and Evan) – lots of people are good – yet they throw in so many dances that we likely won’t get to see how good they are. There is no strategizing around it either, I don’t think – do you take the chance and not work on the dance duel and just polish the hell out of your main dance and marathon hoping the point spread protects you?? Well, ordinarily, maybe. But Katherine is unknown and that would be pretty risky for her. Maria isn’t as strong, so it’s risky for her. William – the judges would pick him every time regardless, so they might be able to do that, but still – would ANY of these pros have the courage to not worry about the duel until AFTER they see how they did on Monday?
Odds are all the pros are going to choreograph three dances and teach them to their partners. Some who ordinarily may do very well, won’t because they had to learn too many dances. And what if it’s Katherine who screws the pooch?? If she falls into the bottom three, then all their little machinations will have been for naught.
I wish they would go back to what made this show great. So what
the best dancer goes home early, after the judges score it should be about what the audience wants. I hate the way this show is becoming so manipulated. If Katherine ends up in the duel jive. Do you think she can lose?
katherine was saying something about a cha cha for the marathon so im not sure what they are doing there. As in last week (and more so this week), i feel bad for people who havent done the jive before, because they are at a HUGE disadvantage…i.e. roshon, maria, gladys, and melissa ( i doubt donald will ever hit bottom two, so he prob doesnt have to worry about it).
Those 4 have the probability of going to a dance duel with jaleel who has not only done the jive before but also the duel itself before.
if the judges are being truthful about only basing their decision on that dance, it wouldnt suprise me if jaleel beat all 4 of them, although i think roshon might be the only one with a chance
#12—sorry meant “motown” marathon—not mambo.
I kind of feel bad for Melissa, starting this week she is so out of her league. Part of me hopes that they put her out of her misery and eliminate her and Maks this week. Its just too painful to watch.
According to Peta’s twitter:
@Donald_Driver80 has mastered the FOXTROT and Jive yay!!!
Sounds like these two are ready to go! 🙂
I am so looking forward to this week, and seeing Louis, Anna, Val, and Peta dancing on the results show, and the special performance to “Tears of a Clown” on Monday.. Did I mention I love “Smokey Robinson” ? 🙂
I actually think Melissa will do well this week with the Viennese Waltz. I’m gonna do all I can to keep her out of the bottom three. I don’t think she’s ready to go home yet.
Melissa tweeted a little while ago that she is ready to go with her three dances.
