DWTS Season 14, Week 6 – Who’s Dancing What…and when?

Another crazy mix of dances this week, all done to the Motown theme. I’m very curious to see how they pull this off.  Some or all of the couples will be dancing to the actual Motown legend who sang their song originally – Derek mentioned that they were dancing to the original artist, and Maks and Melissa did as well.  Below is my guess on the dance order…I’ll rearrange as we get more info.

ETA: Katherine’s dance order per a Katherine fan twitter account that apparently  has a good track record (per sheery in the comments). They sure like to stick her right in the middle of the show don’t they? Isn’t that like every week now?? I find this to be rather strange, actually. If she was a big draw they would have her in the pimp spot at least ONCE.

ETA 2: Gee, I’m so shocked that Willy is dancing last before the marathon. Um, NOT. Well, on the bright side, he’ll have no rest time. How much you wanna bet he wins the marathon anyway?

ETA 3: Maria and Derek dancing first out of the gate. Which means she should be well rested by the time the marathon comes around.  Provided she’s not still sick.

ETA 4: Finally they give Melissa a slot in the second hour…unfortunately, it’s awfully close to the marathon.  I called Roshon, miracle of miracles. :-)

ETA 5: Perhaps Conrad has been reading our site again, because they’ve moved Gladys to position number ONE since it’s Motown night. :-)  Derek and Maria move to number two. And Derek reveals Gladys dance for her – according to him it’s rumba.

Gladys and Tristan – Rumba; Dancing 1st

Maria and Derek – Foxtrot; Dancing 2nd (Song: Jimmy Mack by Martha Reeves)

Roshon and Chelsie – Rumba; Dancing 3rd
Voting # 1-800-868-3405

Katherine and Mark – Samba; Dancing 4th
Voting # 1-800-868-3410

Donald and Peta – Foxtrot; Dancing 5th
Voting # 1-800-868-3403

Melissa and Maks – V. Waltz; Dancing 6th (Song: Ooh Baby Baby by Smokey Robinson and the Miracles)
Voting # 1-800-868-3407

Jaleel and Kym – Cha Cha Cha; Dancing 7th
Voting # 1-800-868-3412

William and Cheryl – Rumba; Dancing 8th
Voting # 1-800-868-3408

MOTOWN MARATHON - We haven’t heard too much about this one, but I have to assume that it will function the same way that marathons have worked in the past – that is, each couple dances in their own spot until four couples are left, then they have free rein of the floor.  You get tapped on the shoulder  to be eliminated from the dance.  The couple left dancing at the end gets 10 points added to their score, second place nine points and so on down the line.  This is the way the previous three marathons have worked – Derek has won twice, Maks has won once…somehow I don’t think either Derek or Maks is going to win this one.  :-)  According to the ABC press release, this dance will end the performance show, just like it has in the past.  But what, exactly, are “classic moves” from the Motown Era, though??

Dance Duel – this week the dance duel is the Jive….which I personally believe is cruel and unusual punishment on top of the cruel and unusual punishment that is the dance duel itself.

The press release makes no mention of a double elimination, but the Vegas Deluxe article did claim it was a “surprise” – so don’t be surprised if Tom drops that little bomb at the beginning of the show.  :-)

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

Sharna Burgess Says Dancing With The Stars Troupe To Bring Classic Steps Back For Motown Week

Broadway Showbiz has a fun new interview up with Dancing With The Stars Troupe member Sharna Burgess. She talks with them about when she began dancing and what age she decided it became her life, passion, and her dream. She also discusses if and when she will return to Broadway and of her other dreams. She also gives some hints on the Troupe dances for Motown Week. Here are a few excerpts. You can read more at the link. Special thanks to Carlos for the heads up on this interview. Picture above courtesy of Dancing With The Stars Make-up. Beautiful and such a passionate dancer! She’s future pro material in my opinion!

When did you decide you wanted to become a dancer?
I started dancing at 6 but I think it wasn’t until I was 17 that I knew that this was it for me, nothing else mattered. Dancing was no longer just something I did, it was who I am. As a younger teenager it was very much my parents pushing me, I just went where I was told because that’s the way it always was, but somewhere along the line it became my choice, my passion, MY dream. So I moved to London at 18 on my own to dedicate everything I had to my career. Best move I ever made!

How many hours a day do you practice each dance?
It changes depending on the difficulty of the number. Generally we do 3 days of between 6-8 hrs a day. Then camera blocking and band rehearsal and the rest. A lot of work goes into it.

Will they have another Broadway style dance off?
I am not sure but I hope so. I love that they bring in other styles. This coming week is Motown and we are bringing back some really classic steps… think Watusi, the jerk, the potato and a few more.

I'm a fashion and music fan....and I have always loved dancing too of any kind. Dancing With The Stars seems to have this way of bringing all of those things together. DWTS Make-Up Team Releases More Behind The Scenes Photos From Week 5

Yesterday, the Make-up team for Dancing With The Stars released some more “behind the scenes” photos from Week 5. If only we could be a fly on a wall as they go through the process of getting ready for the show, hmm? Below are just a few of the new pictures. You can view all 109 pics from this fun album here. I just wish they had some pictures of Derek, Maria, Tristan, Mark, William, and more of the troupe members? Maybe next time?

Donald Driver Excited To Do Motown Week And Tribute Gladys Knight On Dancing With The Stars

Donald Driver writes of his excitement to do Motown Week and pay tribute to fellow contender and legendary singer Gladys Knight. Everyone wants to do really well for her. More below and be sure to read his full blog at JS Online. It also includes some thoughts for what he did with his sweet family this week.

Preparing for Motown week has been really special because we have one of the biggest stars in Motown history on the cast. It’s been such a pleasure getting to know Gladys Knight and I think everyone wants to come out and give their best performances of the season on Monday’s show to pay tribute to her amazing career.

Peta and I are actually preparing for three different dances — Monday’s foxtrot, Tuesday’s Motown Marathon and the Dance Duel. Hopefully our hard work this week on the foxtrot and the support of Packer Nation will be enough to keep us out of the Dance Duel, but we have to be ready just in case.
