PureDWTS Mark Ballas And Katherine Jenkins Interviewed & Perform A Song Together On Good Morning America (Video)
Mark and Katherine were on Good Morning America today. They were interviewed about Dancing With The Stars and then they performed a song together too. They talked a little of the All-Star season as well which Mark hasn’t heard much on. More below!
UPDATE: Here they are on ‘LIVE with Kelly’ today as well!!

WHERE IS THE VIDEO OF THE SONG AND THE SONG NAME? WHY IS THE SONG NOT MENTIONED?
Sandi, you don’t need to write in big text here, ok?
As for the song, GMA hasn’t posted it yet and I’m not sure they will?
Loved the song Katherine Jenkins did with Mark Ballad on guitar. Where’s can we download it?
Loved the song Katherine Jenkins did with Mark Ballas. Hope they record it for retail sale!
ABC really wants us to love Katherine, don’t they.
I guess that’s why she is one of the judges favorites on the show. Maybe the network has something in the works for her.
You are the best Mark and I love Katherine. So sad they are not showing you and Katherine singing. Good luck Monday, and please tour NY again.
I like Katherine and all but I think is kind of unfair to the other contestants.
Rhonda,
I don’t think ABC has anything planned for her, I believe they are trying to help her launch her career in the US-its quite obvious-IMO Then she can always us them as her launching pad.-lol
I think being on GMA is enough. I mean no other couple has gotten that type of platform for sure while they were still competing.
Not hating, just stating the “facts”!
Maybe they will do the song on DWTS, anything to help them win. I starting to feel sick.
@Dee, Maybe giving her “exposure” on ABC’s other shows was part of the deal that Katherine’s management worked with ABC.
@Cidra,
That could be true. Personally, I think she’s adorable but I’m not in agreement with the favoritism and convenient omission of her past performance experience. Not that I care about her experience just that they did not mention it as they have with “every” other American contestant.
Other than that, the show must go on!
Good Luck Maria & Derek and Team Tango!!
All this does is just solidify opinions about her being a favored, pampered little princess. And throw Mark into the mix, oh boy, I almost forgot what a big deal he is supposed to be !! Maybe they should have Derek and Maria on to sing a duet or maybe Derek could play piano while Maria sings. Oh wait, I forgot they don’t exist !! I hope some of the other contestants who are on the show because they are fans (Donald)hardworking and looking to learn something new (Maria)are complaining loudly about the “uneven” treatment of the celebs. What a crock !!
The day after Katherine wins the trophy people will say who is she.
Next season they will have to have a real blockbuster cast to keep this show going.
Mark did a great job accompanying her on guitar. Katherine has the voice of an angel and you can tell they’ve formed such a great bond together.
This was a really good pairing, ABC!
Dee ,I never said she has a deal with ABC that was Sandy, I have seen Derek and Marie on talk shows infact 3 of them so far. Kyms partner has been on a couple too. Lets be fair before we start knocking this great couple. Did you ever think everybody is well known and alot of people have been asking who she is and what she does. Well now everybody knows.
@Rhonda – I said, “Maybe the network has something in the works for her.”
I went to Youtube and searched on Katherine Jenkins Mark Ballas Good Morning America and the full video came right up. Lovely performance.
Cool Ell. I just replaced the video with another with the song performance included. THANKS!
Sorry, Rhonda for the mistake.
As far as the shows that Derek & Maria have been on so has or will “all” the couples this season. Every couple does Ellen and the other couples have been on Extra more than Maria & Derek-IMO
I get what you’re saying, no comparison though.
All I have to say is that if Tristan ever heard that song, then his Irish heart was certainly sent all aflutter. But then with Katherine being Welsh (and therefore a Celt), I’m not too surprised by the choice of Carrickfergus as a song to sing on GMA. And kudos to Mark for taking a backseat with his guitar and simply (yet beautifully) settling into the role of accompanist.
Does anyone know if Katherine had any previously scheduled appearances in NYC other than GMA and Live with Kelly? I mean “hyping and fawning” in the ballroom is one thing … the judges have always had and always will have their favorites … it happens every season and honestly, I don’t mind it. I do mind when they just refuse to give someone a break … like Roshon this season. Either way, I make up my own mind who I like or not like and the judges don’t really influence me on way or another. But, setting Katherine up with other network appearances – like what they appear to have done, is really putting her front and center, along with giving her an advantage. Don’t know why they feel the need to do that. I can’t imagine she’s not getting the votes. Go figure …
That performance was actually very lovely. Mark can play a mean guitar, I’ll give him that much.
That duet with Mark and Katherine was sheer loveliness. I really enjoyed it. Mark’s accompaniment was exquisite and it didn’t overshadow Katherine’s singing which is the mark of an excellent accompanist. I actually wish he would make a CD of classical guitar or flamenco selections because he is a wonderful guitarist, something I tend to forget when he sings & plays his own compositions. Anyway, I loved their dancing as well. I wouldn’t be surprised if Katherine won the MBT even though it pains me to say it since I am a Derek fan forever and am hoping against hope for his 4th MBT with Team Menough.
Lovely
:):)
Thanks Ell for finding the full GMA video and to Vogue for updating with this and the Live with Kelly clip.
Lovely to hear Katherine sing to Mark’s accompaniment. It’s always neat to see how much more relaxed the celebs are when they get to perform one of their dances away from the ballroom. At one point in the Kelly clip, Katherine has this big genuine smile on her face and was obviously having fun.
WOW! Great singer and dancer!
Not to ruffle any feathers but in my opinion I think there is no way you can say that Maria and Derek are forgotten. Have you talked to a Melissa and Maks fan recently? a Roshon and Chelsie fan? I think those are the forgotten/red-headed step children couples of this season according to TBTB and judges. I mean really, Maria and Derek’s missed kiss and then real kiss were the kisses heard/seen round the world.
Lovely song by Kath and Mark. She really does have the voice of an angel, IMO.
Ayana, some of the Menough fans are upset because Maria & Derek get zero media from Access Hollywood and Entertainment Tonight. Derek has to be very creative this season to make sure that Maria stands out in this crowd and get people to talk about her.
Anyways, it is a little bit disconcerting to see Kath and Mark on GMA and Live with Kelly as contestants who are still competing on the show because those appearances are usually reserved for the eliminated couples or the Final 3. I always thought those particular appearances was the reward for the couples to make it to the finals. I like Katherine, but I am starting to smell something fishy.
That’s true, but, GMA has been doing more seperate interviews this season. They’ve done some group pieces. They also interviewed Cheryl and William & Donald and Peta in seperate interviews. The season isn’t over. Hopefully, they’ll do something seperate for Derek and Maria too. I hope so. I feel like they are being robbed for promos too this season.
If Derek HADN’T done the kisses (that he was soundly criticized for), they would be exactly where Melissa and Roshon are. And this is one of the reasons why he’s good at playing this show. Take a risk, get attention for your celeb – positive attention.
Heidi – I think Derek is a different pro since he has returned to the show. His choreography is still ah-mazing, but other than the Psycho Tango I can’t really remember another standout performance. BUT with that said, In my opinion, his emotional connection to his partners is completely different, I see a softer side of Derek, a laid back more fun side, and actually I am enjoying Derek these past two seasons more than I ever have.
I really wasn’t a fan of Ricki last season, but the changes in Derek I felt were evident, and this season he is just too adorable with Maria. They look like they are having a blast. And if they take the MBT so be it.
Well, being able to come up with standout dances also depends on the partner. Derek MADE Ricki into a good dancer and he’s doing that with Maria as well. But part of being able to do that is choreographing routines that make them look really good – and not just make him look amazing. You can’t always do both. His amazing routines with other partners all have another thing in common – a crazy ass set of circumstances to force him to create his way out of it. Psycho Tango, 50′s Paso Doble, Futuristic Paso….all those dances have “crazy” in common. I don’t think he’s been challenged like that this season.
But I have also noticed a change in Derek – I think mainly he feels no pressure to win. I think he can look at the lay of the land (ie, the other competitors) much like Courtney and I do, and he knows what’s going to go down. He might not know it immediately (I think he thought he had a shot with Ricki, for a while), but he figures it out fast. It’s like Maria was telling an interviewer the other day – he usually has the show figured out. He is usually pretty sure who’s going home in a given week. She said this week was harder and he was getting it wrong…but ultimately, he has the show figured out. I think that makes him relax, teach his partner to dance and get her as far as he can, and have fun. He turns it from the business of winning to the business of making his partner look great.
Ummm, does no one else think Katherine’s singing wasn’t all that great in the GMA performance? I am not very impressed. Her breathing was really loud and her voice wasn’t relaxed at times. I’m no expert but when I hear classically trained I expect something else.
@sasa:
How much you hear the singer breathing actually depends on the recording infrastructure. When the micro in is placed front of your mouth, the breathing will necessarily be heard (unless you have a screen in between like they do in good recording studios), which is not the case with the fancy side micros used for some concerts or musicals. Of course, the post-production/live mixing can take care of it to some extent, but it is virtually impossible to filter it all away.
As for the impression of having a “relaxed” voice or not, it actually comes from the fact that classically trained singers pitch their voice in the cavities at the front of their heads (chiefly the nose) with a lot of support from the core muscles like abs and the diaphragm, to achieve the clarity of sound necessary for opera singing, while pop singers usually sing only with their throat and chest (which is quite bad for the vocal chords and can make for a very short carreer). So if Katherine wants to take care of her voice and make it in the long run, she’s actually doing it right, even if it gives the impression that there is more tension in her voice than one would normally expect.
@EL
Thanks for the explanation! I think I’m sensitive to the breathing issue but I can understand how it could come down to studio equipment. It is something that in my amateur ear really messes up the performance, either pop (for example Mariah Carey breaths really loudly) or classical. Or “crossover”.
Are you a fan of crossover? It seems like quite an odd thing to me.
@sasa:
I admit “crossover” is a rather odd term, but I see the point of the name, instead of it being a weird phrase such as “not quite classical, but not quite pop” type of singing. But really, if you’d think about it, you’re in fact listening to a lot more “crossover” than you might expect, especially if you’re fan of soundtrack music.
Catchy theme song that is nonetheless harder to sing than it looks? Check. Orchestral accompaniment instead of a traditional “pop”-like band arrangement? Check. So if you find yourself humming The Lord of the Rings’ “May It Be”, Titanic’s “My Heart Will Go On”, or even Moulin Rouge’s “El Tango de Roxanne”, you’re singing crossover music. And really, when it comes down to it, Broadway musicals are a genre that’s almost entirely constituted of “crossover”-type music.
Also, the “crossover” music may be able to build bridges between the “classical” world (often seen as a wee bit elitist) and the general public, bringing people to actually listen to opera arias, for example, or making “classical”-minded persons interested in more “pop”-type songs. In the end, it’s just a label for those artists who like to straddle both sides of the fence and take the inspiration where they want.
Wow such a gorgeous sad song, Katherine is just stunning & Mark playing the quitar was fabulous along with her singing!
They must be asked on these shows so really if they wanted other celebs they would go too, so nothing wrong with them taking the chance to get more exposure.
I think Katherine & Mark are adorable together, too bad he has a GF lol
It has been a pleasure to get to know the personalities of the dancers on D.W.T.S. Derek is the best dancer since the musicals of the 50′s and Mark is right up there with him. They are able to bring out the best in their partners. Katherine is a lovely young woman, no tats, no foul language, just a nice person. I find that a refreshing quality in our celebrities today. Yes, the judges do seem to have favorites but admit it, they are usually spot on. When the dancers listen to their advice they improve, if not they go home.
