Mark Ballas Gives Teasers For Next Dances On Dancing With The Stars Week 8
Mark Ballas has penned a new blog at USA Today giving us an update on he and Katherine’s next dances. He also gives us a hint of who their dance pro might be for their Trio dance. More below. You can read about his reactions to last week’s dances, elimination, and see a fun picture at the link.
The Viennese waltz is probably one of my favorites of the ballroom dances, and I’m really excited we were given a beautiful piece of music. I have come up with a romantic, heart-wrenching concept to help us execute this dance and the overall concept definitely has a Titanic/Romeo and Juliet vibe.
Katherine is doing really well with both dances. I had them both choreographed and finished by Thursday. That’s early and, for me, it’s a first. Now we are just cleaning up the routines, adding refinement and conformation of choreography.
The Latin round promises to be fun as there is a new challenge for all of the couples. It’s called the “Trio” round, meaning we can recruit another professional dancer for that routine. I am thrilled that we got the pro I wanted. I can’t tell you who it is but let’s just say this: I hope this pro helps us find a lucky pot of gold at the end of the rainbow! And maybe this experience will motivate the mystery dancer to finally sign up on Twitter.
So, who do you think the pro is? I think we all know.

well….it’s clear they have Tristan…dang…bummed…i wish Maria got him…but what can i say…? some just have all the luck..
It will be ok. Derek and Maria’s dance will be fanstastic….even if it’s with a frog. You just wait and see.
Honestly, Elara, I don’t think it matters who they get as long as Derek choreographs a good dance and Maria executes it well.
LOL thx Vogue! i am sure it will be fantastic! and PH i know…but i would have liked him in the trio!
@Vogue – Dance with a frog, hey didn’t Aaron and Karina already do that! And I loved it!!!
Yawn! I find Katherine and Mark extremely boring. I barely remember her at the end of the night.
I agree with you Sandy….I think Katherine is a good dancer, but she is boring and I don’t remember her either at the end of the night.
The way Mark is describing their Viennese Waltz makes me think their song is “A Thousand Years” by Christina Perri.
I was hoping that Maria and Derek would have Tristan, but knowing that Maria would be the last celeb who could pick a pro, I knew that someone would get Tristan…Anyway! I trust Derek and I know that whoever is the second pro, he will create an amazing choreography as always! Can’t wait to see this new ‘thing’ on DWTS!!!
Sandy, I also agree with you. Katherine is a good dancer but the lack of chemistry between her and Mark is a huge ‘negative’. I like their routines, but like you said, I don’t remember them at the end of the night. And like as I told so many times, Katherine looks ‘cold’…she is like a Barbie Doll.
Gotta agree on the Katherine comments. It’s her “look” I think that makes her seem cold. She needs to soften her make up and her hair style. She looks about 40 when she’s only 31. (Nothing wrong with 40 ladies, unless your 31.
) I’m sure she’s lovely, but first impressions are everything. As for Mark, pfftt …. lost cause in the stylin’ department.
Mark sometimes focus so much on the storytelling that miss the DANCE.
=/
My favourite dance of Katherine is definetively the jive. short story, great song, great dance.
I just wish Mark would grow his HAIR!!! lol
As for Katherine and Mark’s dances, I haven’t liked them the last two weeks as much as their first dances which blew me away. So much so, I even threw them a couple of votes in the beginning (first time ever I voted for Mark on this show). I loved their Marathon dance too except for their neon green colored costumes.
I love Katherine – I think she’s a doll. But I also agree that she has a very cold look to her and there is a cold feel to her and Mark dancing. It’s easy to say that it’s the platinum blond hair…but is it really or is it just being British?? There have been plenty of fiery blondes on DWTS – of course, the only ones I can think of are pros….
I’m with Vogue about Mark’s hair-he needs to grow it back!
I am looking forward to their dances this week. I’ve enjoyed most of Mark’s viennese waltz’s and cha cha’s and I think they should do very well this week.
Me too, Vogue, Mark needs to grow his hair. He has such wonderful curly hair that flatters his face. That shaved head with a scruffy almost-beard just makes him unfortunate-looking, imo. I agree with the sentiment about Katherine: she seems to push “British reserve” to a high level. Maybe she is just still wounded from her break-up. I never feel much emotion from her either in person or dancing. That is one thing in which Derek excels: he is able to portray a wide range of emotions in performance which really connects with the audience.
Love Mark’s wavy locks and miss them. I think Katherine is quite lovely.
I agree about Mark and the hair. I used to think he was cute but not anymore. His face is too chubby or something with the near buzz-cut.
I’m neutral on Katherine, but will be voting for her just because of Tristan. BTW, who is working with Maria and Derek? Henry Byalikov instead of Anna? And Chelsie and Roshon picked Sasha Farber instead of Tristan, Tony, or Anna? I find that hard to believe. I think the producers picked the couples’ extra pros.
