DWTS14 Week 8 Louis Van Amstel With Some Last Minute Thoughts Before Showtime
Louis breaks it down before showtime with his thoughts and who he’s worried for the most tonight. Note how he is worried for Maria which shocks me. I think she will be fine (unless her feet are an issue tonight?).
Terrible Two-fer
If the pressure of learning two dances to perform in one night wasn’t enough for our top six, DWTS is making sure the stress is stacked higher than a precarious game of Jenga. With two sure-fire eliminations this week, it’s one false (dance) move, and you’re out. “Now, they’re going to separate the boys from the guys and the girls from the women … it’s do or die,” says Amstel. “America’s not stupid … If anyone was banking on using a trick to win over the audience, it’s too late. Now you’ve got to show your true colors.”And who’s staring down the barrel of elimination in Amstel’s eyes? He says Melissa Gilbert, Roshon Fegan, and Maria Menounos are in trouble. “I’m surprised Melissa is still there, based on the judges’ scores,” says Amstel. But when it comes to Menounos, who was rewarded with a perfect score alongside her partner Derek Hough last week, Amstel is a little more hopeful. “I love Maria to death and this is Derek’s best season as far as choreography goes. Still I’m a little worried for her,” he says.
Two’s Company, Three’s a Party!
But who needs a double when you can have a triple? This week also deals the twist of a never-before-seen (on DWTS) trio dance for each of our top six finalists. This means that each celeb will dance with his or partner as well as another professional dancer. “For the pro that’s still in the competition, adding another pro can help. It makes it a little easier,” says Amstel. And while the idea of choreographing a group routine and teaching the celeb to handle the dynamics of an extra person on the dance floor might test a skill the pros haven’t yet honed, this could actually help take some of the heat off of the celeb contestant. “This is kind of a break,” Amstel says. “Normally you have two solo dances and you have to worry about the celebrity, but here you can make it more fun and entertaining.” Of course, being that we’re down to six, the contestants will also dance regular duets with their partners as well.
I love his thoughts on the Trio dance. Who’s ready?

I really don’t care what LVA has to say. He’s always saying something negative against Maria.
It’s not Maria that Louis has a problem with, Adam. 🙂
So true Adam and Heidi. He’s jealous of Derek and is only hoping she will fail.
I completely agree. Lol. Been jealous since he had the ringer Nicole Sccherzinger. And plus he knows he not a mad choreographer like Derek.
+1!!!
“I love Maria to death and this is Derek’s best season as far as choreography goes. Still I’m a little worried for her,” – Um jealousy is bad for Louis. He always is great choreography wise (notable exception Ricki’s 80s dance and Ricki’s jive (or should I say cha-jive becuase it was kinda 50-50 for each in that dance and reminded me of a freestyle lol). Louis was/is the one that is pretty inconistant w chroegraphy when he is on the show (ex. season 6: great choreography first three weeks but the he really let down Priscilla choroeography wise or Kendra in season 12: he nailed the chroegphy for the cha cha, quckstep, rumba, and samba but the rest were pretty weak)
Saying that, I’m not saying he is ab dad person or choregorpaher but he seems to have an issue when publially commenting about others on the show.
The thing is – I usually agree with Louis on what he says about the other couples, but as soon as he starts on Maria and Derek he loses all credibility for me.
Also: this is Derek’s strongest season choreography wise? I don’t think so.
publiclly * damn autocorrect
Yeah, the best of Derek’s choreo was last week imo. I think he’s just warming up this season and was waiting for Maria to get more confidence?
And I have had a lot of respect for Louis and his reviews and such too in the past to the point of thinking he’d make an excellent judge, but (like Vin too), whenever he critics Derek and his partners, you have to wonder what’s up with him and then he ruins it for me especially these last few weeks?
Hmmmm, Nice post Vogue! It is wierd how he is so concerned on Maria, unless he is just reffeering to her injury; Also, he thinks this is Derek’s best chereo season? Interesting opinion because I would say Nicole’s season was for sure based soley on her versatility but obviously to Louis, Nicey is and forever shall be 10 times the dancer Nicole was/is. 🙂
I thin Louis is just pissed that he never really got anyone really really good or never really molded anyone into a dancer besides Kelly osbourne (and she really wasn’t that great)
think* damn frekin autocorrect I’m switichig to my laptop now lol
Thanks Zach and LOL to the thought of Louis thinking Nicey was a better dancer than Nicole! Hilarious! lolllll
Ok, I’m back lol, Now I can continue my thought. Dere wil forever be my fav male pro and thats becuase how creative and understanding he is. If he sees a ceelb can’t do one thing he will do another thing (like lets say a lift ot something….ex. Jenifer Greay and her freestlye) that makes the celeb look good and that is how you win a mirrorball trophy by making the celeb feel comfortable, molding them into a dancer, and last but not least make them really have the time of their lives.
Derek*
Yes, Nicole’s season for sure – but I would also say the seasons where he really had to work around something to make it work: like season 9 with Joanna. She was FAR from the best dancer that season, but thanks to Derek’s choreo and teaching skills she got far. I still think she deserved a place in the final over Kelly and Donny.
Actually, I think Season 3 was LVAs strongest choreography season. He gave Monique some great choreography, and DIFFICULT, and she just went at it with gusto, and she did improve a LOT over the course of the season.
As I was reading this, Vogue, I just wondered where all the venom was that I “heard” from just last week in his blog? He criticized and complained about Maria and Derek… Maybe he simply needs to re-read what he’s said so he can get his stories straight.
@Gitte: I agree with you! Kelly was ok but she wasn’t great and Donny’s popularity to be honest will always be an enigma to me. My mother has every single record that he made and every cd and his voice is nice but not great and he is too chessy for my taste. Saying that, he nailed that freestyle though and I usually hate braodway style dances (mostly becuase SYTYCD)
Lori, so true! He needs to keep his stories straight.
Word, Gitte – makes me wonder what he was smoking in Season 10 and 11 and 13.
@Lori: I didn’t watch season 3 except for the finale. I’m going to have to check out Monique Coleman’s dance now. (I was kinda a video game addict becuase The Godfather the Game was and still is the craziest addicting game ever…….still haven’t beaten it since i figured if i ddin’t beat it in a year I’d just give up lol )
Louis is such a fill in the blank _____________________ Derek’s best season for choreography! I love Maria to pieces and she is probably my favorite partner of Derek’s next to Jennifer Grey but WTH is Louis talking about…. Derek is always great as far as choreography goes. I guess he forgot about Nicole, Jennifer! He definitely needs to STFU!!!-Sorry ya’ll!!
Poor little LVA, he’ll never in his wildest dreams even come close to Derek’s talent as a dancer & choreographer. I forget which season it was but there was a pro dance where Derek & LVA were dancing as a duo with the SAME choreography, and, excuse me, but ONE of them was so much better (guess who) it was ridiculous. Just sayin’. I just laugh and roll mah eyes if LVA says anything negative about DH. Jealousy, pure and simple, imo.
