More Buzz On Dancing With The Stars All-Star Edition
TV Guide is reporting some more buzz on the much talked about “All-Star” Edition of Dancing With The Stars. A “staffer” told them that it’s “going to happen.” Also, Mario Lopez, Gilles Marini, Mel B., Sabrina Bryan, and Kyle Massey are a few names being dropped who might be returning. According to the staffer, also note that the casting would exclude mirror ball champions. Below is more….
According to the staffer, the casting would exclude mirror ball champions, which may come as a disappointment to Dancing co-host Brooke Burke Charvet, who won Season 7 (2008) and recently told talk show host Rachael Ray that she’d loved to be a part of an All-Star season. “100 percent yes!” said Charvet. “I haven’t danced ballroom since I left. And being on the show, it just makes me want to dance again.”
A spokesman for ABC, who would not confirm the plan, says the network is not ready to make any formal announcement. But another insider says that the names on the list make sense because they could conceivably fit the show into their schedules and are all still physically fit enough to compete. Bryan and Massey are in Las Vegas right now, performing in a three-month run of “Dancing With The Stars: Live In Las Vegas,” at the New Tropicana Las Vegas.
The names also make sense when you consider the pairings with their old pro partners: Runner-up Lopez could dance again with Karina Smirnoff, assuming that they could put their former romance aside. Runner-up Mel B., who is co-hosting the Australian version of Dancing, could paso doble again with Maksim Chmerkovskiy. Runner-up Marini could wow the ballroom again with Cheryl Burke. Bryan could be vindicated for being voted out too soon by pairing up again with Mark Ballas. And runner-up Massey could cha-cha again with Lacey Schwimmer.
“It’s better if the winners don’t come back,” says the insider, “because then, we have a cast of people who have another shot at the title.”
Wow, I can’t wait and I can see why it would be better if the winners didn’t come back. You can read the full article at TV Guide. Let’s get Heidi’s take….
Heidi: Hmmm…I dunno. I guess an all stars season would be great if they only picked people who went as far as the semi-finals. That would certainly make it more exciting, since it implies both fan votes and dance ability (to a certain extent) for each of the cast – a somewhat more level playing field. No real duds with a few exceptions. But if they are talking about Sabrina, then they might consider others who didn’t make it that far, and I would think the point would be to have all great dancers. Gilles?? He’s a working actor, I don’t see him coming back to the show. I also don’t see Mario coming back (and he already said he didn’t have time) as he’s working a good bit too. So…who else would who is “good” would be likely to come back?? And what happens if two people who danced with the same pro came back??

I’d love to see an all-star season made up of returning semi-finalists. Of course, you might need a few good dancers who finished lower in previous seasons to provide cannon-fodder for elimination in the early weeks (harsh, but true).
As an added bonus perhaps TPTB could convince several MBT winners to come back for one dance with their former pro on a results show. I could see JR and Hines agreeing. That way Brooke could get her wish to dance again, and the fans would get an encore performance from some of their favorite winning couples. The only problem I see with that is it could be tricky logistically for the pros (e.g., Derek), since most would likely be dancing in the current season too.
People I could see coming back:
Sabrina
Mel B
Melissa Rycroft or Stacy Keibler
Ricki
Pamela (maybe)
Kelly (maybe)
The men are more difficult…
I would love if Gilles came back, but as Heidi said: I don’t think he has the time
Maybe Jerry Rice?
Joey Fatone
Lance Bass (that could be fun if they could get both Joay and Lance back)
Evan
People I don’t want ANYWHERE near the dance floor:
Bristol
Marie Osmond
Kate G
and a few others
Gitte, couldn’t agree more to your “please no” list!!!! LOL!!
I’m really hoping Kirstie Alley would come back for this. I just loved her. She and Maks would be so fun to watch again.
Good ideas Cidra!!!
Yes to Pamela.. = Damian….
*eyesflutter*
Oooh, Sandy…Pamela and Damian *be still my heart*
For sure we gotta have Damian
since an all-star season would mean no Tristan. Golly, just saying that makes me think twice about the all-star season. A season isn’t a season for me anymore without Tristan
The Celebs that I could see on the All-Star cast would be
Gilles Marni
Mel B
Sabrina Bryan
Mario Lopez
Kyle Massey
Joey Fatone
Stacy Keibler
Jennifer Grey
Evan Lysacek
Kelly Osbourne
Marie Osmond
Louie Vito
I think all-star season is a good idea, and also agree that it would be best if they select from semi-finalists, I really see no point in having Sabrina – she clearly did not connect with the viewers, they think she would fare better against better dancers? Really?
Although I will watch anyway, the interesting question is – what will happen with judging? Will they keep old grudges or develop new ones?
Someone mentioned switching up the partners should this be the case. I have to agree. If I were a producer and this is what we were doing, I’d give the “All-Stars” different partners. I know it would be like starting over, but…I mean look at the regular seasons, they start new all the time.
Well, Cidra, I don’t see how they can work it so ONLY one former partner of each pro ends up on the show…and I also don’t know if Derek will be around for that season. I don’t think there’s any way they can do it where everyone gets their original partner.
I like the idea of no winners. And I’m all for switching partners. I think it would be very interesting to see how a celeb does with a different teacher.
I hope this really happens.
PH (#10) I haven’t looked at the cast lists from previous season to see who all the semi-finalists were paired with, but I can definitely see there could be too much overlap with pros like Derek, Maks, Cheryl. So I vote for Tony’s suggestion to re-pair former semi-finalists with new pros. It would work as long as nobody gets their former pro. Starting fresh would be interesting. It allows a semi-finalist to come back even if their former pro can’t. It also has the added benefit of keeping new pros like Tristan, Peta and Val on the show.
Not sure mainstream fans would appreciate Kyle or Sabrina (even Joey, if he’s rumored) because they are doing the Las Vegas show and might be considered to have an “advantage”.
I also think if they can get them, the all-stars should be those WHO MADE IT TO THE TOP3 ONLY!!!
I mean let’s face it, if they didn’t make it to the finals it was because they didn’t have the quality dancing OR the fan votes to begin with.
I hope they keep the same pros!I want to see Apolo and Julianne(wishful thinking),Evan and Anna, and Sabrina and Mark!
I hope its true and i hope they keep old pairings. I wan to see Gilles/Cheryl again! They are at the top of my list but im so excited about so many others. I love the idea of 2-5th place contestants coming back.
Maybe they can do a list of the more likely to come back or most antcipated of each pro and go down the list til they get one for each pro? Like Joey F for Kym, if he can make it good, if not go for Wareen etc? Which would still be hard because I would like to see Ralph/Mario L, Brandy & Mel B back, Kyle/Lance back… Some pros have a lot of partners I like
Former celebrities returning that sounds good. Please don’t put them with their former pro! Would love to see Dmitry and former dwts pro’s Johathan and Nick in the mix too.
My tween said, “They should have the all-stars dance with different pros. The pros can only be ones who have NOT won a mirror ball trophy yet.”
Hmmm?
Tony, Lacey, Anna, Dmitry, Louis, Chelsie, Tristan, Corky (haha—just kidding), Jonathan ( I can dream), Val, Maks, and it can also include Troupe members to give them a chance.
It would be fun to watch an all star season, but my problem as a viewer would be voting. I probaly will happen to like everyone! I would really like to see Evan Lysacek, Kyle Massey, Erin Andrews, Kirstie Alley, Ricki Lake, David Arquette, Kelly Osbourne, Stacey Kiebler, Gilles Marini, Joey Fatone, and Ralph Macchio back. The only thing about Ralph is would he want to come back? He was so unfairly judged it makes me wonder how he feels about it now. If there are any winners in it, everyone should be a past champion. It wouldn’t be fair for a champion to win again when a whole bunch of runner ups have a second chance IMO.
I would like
Giles
Joey F
Sabrina
Mel B
Ricki
Kirstie
Stacey K
Evan
Ralph
Marie O
Kelly O
Melissa G
Since Alec and Edyta are gone, I guess there would be no chance of seeing their dance partners again?
Ok Brandy from Season 11 should be included in the mix. She deservs fighting, fair chance. She should be paired with Val (gotta keep it in family…haha) or Tony
Would love for Brandy to be in the Allstar season. Imo, like the younger Chmerkovsiky brother, seems sweet and very patience wth his celebs, saying that, would not want him matched up with Brandy. Would love to see her dancing with Johathan or Nick.
Personally, I’d love to see a season of high octane, great fun entertainment that includes a lot of the great past dancers, but also some of the really fun not top 3 or 4. I don’t mind a mix of dance ability. Of course I love to see fantastic dancing and seeing the pros really have a chance to go all out. But I’d much much much rather have people like Gladys, Carson, Ty…included over anyone who might be good but is a drama queens/king, people with too much angst…I just want to have fun!!!
And yes! to having a different pro partner second time around.
All we agree we want an all stars season.
The point is. What will the producers do with it.
Look, I want no Theme weeks. (Classic week was fantastic on season 12, but this season, not so much. I never liked the Rock week, and drama week for some stars are just annoyng… the only theme week that can’t be a total disaster is latin week. – I just wanted the producers forget a little bit about the jungle and the neon-colors ¬¬’).
With such good couples there’s no need for theme weeks.
I’m really going for the dances some of these couples didn’t dance yet, such as lambada, jitterbug/lindy hop, hustle, that are the dances I loved. And new dances as merengue.
Yes to trio dance (big yes!) and instant dance and solo on a latin dance. team dance too.
I know a lot of you hated it, but i liked the Dance Duel.
And, I almost forget, NO to the same couples. I want challange and buzz, people!
Wish you were the producer, Carlos! Sounds good!
I’m with Megs and so agree Carlos. I’m hungry for a Mambo too. I love the Marathon dances as well. Just please no theme weeks. I want the music to match the style of dance.
Jess, I agree to bringing back Carson. He’d be a hoot.
Oh, and I would love it if they brought Joanna Krupa back.
Natalie Coughlin and Audrina Patridge would be amazing to have back.
I think the reason they didnt go as far as they could of was because of their respective partners, Alec and Tony.
If they were paired with new pros, that would be interesting.
No way are the producers going to cut out Derek, Mark and Cheryl when all three have the biggest (along with Maks) fanbases on the show. They still have ratings to think about. And I doubt very much they want to lose Kym or Karina either.
I think the only key item missing with this idea would be their contestants *journey*, which to me is so vital in this competition. So I’m am not totally onboard with this idea, but then again, there are some celebs I would like to see dance again…
Wouldn’t it be easier for them to fo the the pro and say what partner do you want to dance with again? They could give Tristan somebody really good like Brandy or Kirstie or Mel B. or Audrina or someone like that if Maks, Tony, any of the pros don’t chose them.
to go to*
@Voguerista: Something tells me that if the all star season happens he will be there competing dancing to moves like jagger again
He was sooooooooo much fun. And looking back, his jive wasn’t that bad. But then again I only say that now becuase I saw Sherri’s jive.
I’d really like to see some of the people from earlier seasons that people forgot about coming back for the all-start season
People like Lisa Rinna, Monique Coleman, and Willa Ford, Vivica A. Fox. All of them were great dancers, but got eliminated early and people always forget that they were even on the show since it’s been 11/12 seasons. Lol
I really can’t wait for this all-star season to happen!
LOL Vin!!! Yeah, I’d take Carson’s jive over Sherri’s for sure. lolllll
JustMe, I loved Willa!
@Voguerista: That’s the best part of the jive lol when you see a really good one (ex. donald’s trio dance, nicole proud mary jive, nicole’s rhianna sos dance, stacey’s wham jive, etc) it makes people remember the bad ones . Sherri was mor of a jive-cha (part jive prodominantly cha cha cha lol)
Also, raandom post: I found this link and thought of you guys and how much you would enjot it
http://www.postcrescent.com/article/20120510/APC0505/305100123/Driver-DWTS-keep-plumber-similar-phone-number-dancing
#30 – Cameron: Yes, I’d be really interested to see how they might do with a different partner. Natalie wouldn’t be available until after the Olympics, of course.
I wouldn’t mind seeing Chris Jericho or Jason Taylor return.
Maybe Shannon Elizbeth will be Derek partner for the all-star season.
Paring up Gilles and Cheryl–dynamite
Paring Mel B with Maks–outstanding
How about a season of Mirror Ball winners to get a #1 champ? That would be really good.
