DWTS Season 14, Week 9 – Who’s Dancing What…and when?
Everyone say “thank you baby Jesus” for no silly Cha Cha relay or instant dances or any other miscellaneous crap in tomorrow nights show – at least, not so far. 
Don’t get me wrong – I like the instant dances, I just feel like they’ve had enough crap to deal with this season with learning three dances every week MUCH earlier than usual. I imagine they’ll stick a couple pro dances in there to kill some time. But maybe not – the show is only 90 minutes tomorrow night, to make room for (gag) The Bachelorette. The Bachelorette is where I hone my snark skilz.
This week is really it, folks – who’s got the votes? Will the pimping continue, or are they going to be satisfied now that they’ve got all their chosen one, Willy, in the Semi-finals?? Will we get realistic scoring, or are they desperate to have William in the finals at the expense of someone else? If Donald continues to get shafted on scores, I think we’ll have our answer. The order the dancers are in below is my guess at how the actual order will be. I expect them to handicap Maria and, to a lesser extent, Katherine.
As for the actual dancing?? Advantage Katherine, I think, and William. Samba could be trouble for Donald and we all know that Maria will be doing the Jive on busted feet – no laughing matter. Actually, neither of Donald’s dances favor him, just on the face of it, but I expect him and Peta to pull it out. I don’t think that William’s dances particularly favor him, but it’s unlikely to matter – a couple hip twitches and he’s got a 30. If Maria manages the Jive and doesn’t get totally hosed, and the rest of the dancers are all in the same ball park, then we will really find out who’s getting the votes…or more likely, who isn’t. But somehow, I don’t think they’re all going to land in the same ballpark – someone either going to have trouble with a dance, or the judges will manufacture trouble where there is none. We’ll see!
ETA: Don’t get excited about William going first – it doesn’t matter at this point in the season. Cheryl says Samba is first – no idea if they are doing all the latin first or if they’re mixing it up. Katherine we’re not 100% on just yet.

Len best be giving Maria some descent scores. He was seriously like Bullying her last week. But I seriously predict like a 29 or 30 for the argentine tango.
Nah. He’ll say “There wasn’t enough content, but a valiant effort” and give Willy Boy a 9. Or Len could just not care and give him a 10. Len called him out on the Rumba, so if it happens again with the samba (and especially after Maria’s samba fiasco) I should hope he does it again. But again, I’m convinced Willy will have a 60 tomorrow.
Nah, Derek knew he was taking a big risk with Len, Adam. One of the things I like about Derek is that he’ll take a risk anyway, warn his partner and then not whine when Len scores him badly. All that said – the 7 was WAY out of line. Even though Derek predicted it. The question is – will he give Willy the same treatment?
I think also that Will is gonna take a 30 tomorrow. And that Maria’s only going to further injure herself, which hurts I’m a Derek a fan. But I suppose that we shall see who really deserves the finals.
I don’t care what happens, I am giving all my votes to Donald, just because he is so serious about the competition, is really trying hard, and is being scored unfairly (lower scores) than he deserves for the quality of his dancing. I also like the professionalism of Peta–she is a good teacher who is all business. I really like her. I also have liked their costumes the best this season. And I a still upset that his jive didn’t get all 10′s!!!!
Thank you, Heidi, for this post! You exactly & succinctly sum it all up for me. I’m hoping that the Free Willy pimping has come to a close, but my suspicions are that TPTB have decided they need him in the finale.
But as you say, we’ll see.
Would it be wrong to pay someone the grease the floor before William dances? Nothing against him, he seems like a great guy but the judges and Cheryl have done him no favours and I’d like to see how they would still over score him if he fell on his ass.
i am sooooo happy there is no cha cha stupid relay..enough already with the cha cha …and i hope that for once…William will go first…just ONCE in this season…but..i think i am just dreaming…

Derek always knows and always warns his partner when he is taking a risk and in my eyes..he always wins…that’s the way to get Emmy nominations…learn the rule and then break them! i expect him to take a risk with the Jive too…considering Maria’s feet problems…and judging by the marks on Maria’s legs…the AT is down and hot..

Annnd…now Derek is injured. Jaysus, they may go down in history as the most injured team to make it to the Semi finals. Although…Jennifer, Christian and Gilles all had to have surgery after the show was over. Let’s hope it doesn’t go that far.
Wow, no instant dances this season? Color me…shocked. I look for William to get favored again, but to make it clear, I actually feel sorry for him because he only wants to dance and not have folks point him out as the one the judges overscore all the time.
I’m giving my votes to Donald. I love his drive and enthusiasm and because he has sweet Peta for his partner.

Hmmm…really. I’ve seen none of the dancers or pros even mention camera blocking yet, and it’s not even 1 in the afternoon in LA. I’m a bit skeptical this time; think I’ll hold off for a bit on posting that one. No offense.
I think Len is scoring Donald for what he feels D CAN produce, and just knowing how much D WANTS (and deserves) that 10. Donald is the ONE contestant that Len feels he can push…. It’s obviously pushing both Donald and PETA to produce better quality dances, and Donald does seem to work tremendously under pressure.
It’s no use for him to push William, because CAI, Bruno, Cheryl and the producers have their own agenda to get him into the finals. Katherine is already quite good, and not sure how much she can improve technically. Performance wise, yes, a lot of improvement needed. But she just can’t learn it better than she is now… You got it or don’t, and K doesn’t. And pushing Maria… Well, she’s lucky to not be in a wheelchair right now, I think.
No problem. I felt the same way thinking “isn’t it too early.” All i know is that’s what twitter said. Will just have to wait and see.
When is Free Willy or The Queen going to dance first? Everyone should have to lead off a show. TPTBWTHUCA are really testing the patience of the loyal core audience. I have never been so agravated by DWTS as I have this season. Over produced – over pimped – over themed – the loyal core audience=over screwed! Just how much did they have to do to get Univision?
Would just like to see some fairness! DWTS Season 14 = Fair What am I thinking? My BAD!
If Katherine is going second, the questions become:
1. Is she getting more votes than we think?
2. Are the producers not invested in her sticking around?
Why limit it to two questions? As has been said 5000 times – the running order likely makes little to no difference in terms of votes at this point in the season.
It’s either probably going to be Donald or Maria hopefully in the pimp spot. Donald because the fans went crazy for them. And Maria because of the harsh comment from Len. But I wouldn’t be surprised if William goes last like every week. Get’s old.
But if I had to say the Running Order it would be:
1st — Katherine & Mark
2nd — William & Cheryl
3rd — Maria & Derek
4th — Donald & Peta
I kinda hope that’s the running order.

I don’t think they’re going to be tied. Not even close. I think they’ll rank them Katherine, William, Donald, Maria – how far apart the scores are might give an indication of the vote totals.
@AdamTaylor2011: the only reasoon i said samba was becuase its a dance that heavily relies on personality and footwork and he is great at both. Ihope Maria doesn’t get an 8 but idk with Len. He is just too unpredictable lately.

@Heidi – I have a question and you seem to always have a logical answer…
Is there an advantage to going early in the show, as far as voting goes? Some people wait to watch all the dancers before they vote. The last time that Donald went early I couldn’t get a call through for over an hour. If he was last I never would have. (Just using Donald as an example). If this was discussed before I apologize.
My predictions (with ranges since I’m bad a predicting the scores before seeing the dances. Lol) :
MARIA- AT (29-30), J (26-27)

I see the judges using the jive to create a buffer for Maria. She probably as more fans than Kat or maybe even Will but maybe not enough to cover the spread. I hope I am wrong. But I think her argentine tango maybe the show stopper and the dance people remember.
Funny how the royal couple got the perfect score and two tens yet the dances people talked about, at least I heard, were Domald’s trio and Maria’s vw.
I don’t know, Sandy. We know that early in the season the running order matters – the bad spots are 2nd, 3rd and 4th in terms of your odds of getting voted off. Statistically speaking, of course. It’s all about percentages. But that’s mainly about getting voted off – that IMPLIES that people do watch all the dancers and then vote…which which means that those in the middle of the pack tend to get forgotten by the end of the show. Conversely, it could also mean that the great dancers that go earlier benefit from getting votes from people who vote as soon as they see a great dance – the phone lines are more open and use up their votes by the end of the show. The question is – do the two groups cancel each other out?? I would guess yes, there is *a little* cancelling out. But then, you also have to consider that the reason someone is going 2nd, 3rd and 4th is because they aren’t making a big impact to start with anyway – smaller fanbases, not great dances, whatever the reason. Does that make sense? There are a million ways to look at it. And statistics never answer all the questions.
I would guess this late in the season that most people already have a favorite and that’s who they vote for, period. But I do agree that there are a lot of people who wait to see the people dance before calling in and therefore, going earlier would be better. There’s just no way of knowing how many people do that, and if they are offset by the people who just vote online. At the end of MOST seasons, the best dancers are in the final four or final three, so I guess it all evens out in the end.
I think I’m the only one that thinks Donald’s dances won’t hinder him. I can see him pulling off a pretty good, emotional Waltz. It’s the judges we have to be weary of. Stupid judges.
Hope Derek gets a cortisone shot or something! Just hope everything goes well! Looking for them to kill the A. Tango!
Agree with Margaret #38! No one does an AT like the amazing D.Hough. Hope he is well enough to pull it off! I’m hoping and voting for Maria to make it to the finals; would love to see another Hough free-style!
Funny thing is.. When I talk to my mother about the show she is entirely clueless to any issues of pimpage (of which she sees none), scoring, running order, judges, voting, or really anything for that matter. And if you would ask her about the show… All she would say is “They are all such beautiful dancers.”…..

Gosh, I hope Derek will be able to dance. I really hope he doesn’t have the DAD on top of everything else if his back is injured! I’m preparing to vote my butt off tomorrow night. I hope the judges have finished their pimping of Free Willy now that everyone knows about Eurovision and they will now judge fairly … but I doubt it!

Two weeks ago, Bristol told her fans to vote for Mark & Katherine, and now Kirstie Alley is saying she’s voting and wants her army to help Katherine win. I have a feeling there are people who are anti-footballplayers, anti-Derek, and anti-William, so maybe she benefits?
Maybe they can be pro-Katherine?
Kirstie also asked folks to vote for Melissa. I guess for me, I prefer Donald winning if Maria does not win. Katherine is fine but she has not entertained me and I really do not want Mark again. He already won twice with basically guaranteed winners.
Kristi was pretty much a guarantee, Melissa. I think some people might have doubted Shawn. Plus, Shawn’s win was less than 1%.

#49—Nah, people on that site can’t stand Mark, but aren’t ones to vote for pros. However, they don’t like NFL players because they feel it’s “automatic”, they don’t want Derek to win again, and they think William is being pushed through supposedly just like Rob K in their opinions.

Eh, sheery – anecdotal. Most of Hollywood, including the Kardashians are telling everyone to vote for Maria. If people are total sheep, then I would wonder which heavy hitter is most powerful. Luckily, most people AREN’T sheep.
I think everyone places FAR too much weight on what little bits of anecdotal evidence they see on Twitter. People vote for who they want to vote for – If the Kardashians or Kirstie were that powerful, THEY would have won. And they’d have much better careers and, in the case of the Kardashians, would be famous for something other than a sex tape.
So Peta said on Twitter that she and Donald are going 3rd & 7th. I don’t follow Mark but Katherine has only mentioned her dances. If her fan Twitter account is right and she goes second, that means Maria is last. I know the orders don’t really matter at this point but I don’t know what to make of this. Hopefully it means that Menough have KILLER routines and not that her Jive is so bad TPTB want the viewers to see it last and not vote. Yes I know its a mighty long stretch but I can’t help but worry. And I wonder why I was called Debbie Downer in high school

For Maria, she has gone second numerous times so would be nice if she went last tomorrow. But who knows, I hope the dances are strong enough. I am not worried about the argentine tango but the the jive? Just her feet worry me. Positive thoughts!

Process of elimination means that if I know what order all the couples are dancing in except one, then I know when that one is dancing also because there’s no other place for them to dance. As for dancing Tango first?? Pretty sure she originally said Samba – wonder if they changed the order.

All I can say is that clearly they want Derek in the Finals again, no surprise there & if they have to throw out the best women contestant since Nicole they will do it.

Lisa, speak for yourself. Derek and Maria aren’t tiring to me. Derek is not one to fake or complain about injuries. He and Maria have only done the opposite. I think it’s sad that you say they should go away now. I’m loving all four of them. This is the best semi finals ever in my opinion.

Please, Derek seeking attention for injuries, you’ve got to be kidding me and I could challenge you on that dance around the partners as far as the female/male pros go but I won’t waste my time. Also, Maria has “not” been seeking sympathy for her injuries. Anyone that watches the show knows that she brushes it off every time its brought up on the show. I’ve never felt like they’ve, whoever they may be, wanted Derek & Maria in the finals. They are a fun team to watch, plenty of chemistry and I look forward to their performances tonight. I hope they knock that Argentine Tango out and Jive out the box.

I love Maria TO DEATH but I’m sorry I don’t think she is the best female contestant since Nicole. Behind Nicole, you have Mya, Kristi Yamaguchi, Sabrina Bryan, Mel B, etc.
Katherine is the strongest female TECHNICALLY speaking. But as we’ve seen throughout the show’s history, you need more than technicality on your side.
And do we really think Maria can win against Donald’s fan base? Big question mark if you ask me.

Dancing last is not exactly the pimp spot at this stage. If votes come down to regular viewers at all, they tend to wait til end or vote if they see a 30. Phone lines are crashing at the end, people give up trying and regular viewers don’t do as much voting on-line. IMO
I think Maria is the gutsiest (is that a word) contestant to ever be on DWTS … I think that is why she has won so many fans since she came on the show. She has gained almost 70,000 twitter followers since it was announced that she was joining the cast of DWTS…. and those are just the ppl who use twitter.

Maria has definitely made the most progress and isn’t that what’s supposed to happen ?? Katherine was good to start and she has stayed the same or gone a little back, Donald was charasmatic with technical problems and he’s cleared up some/not all of the tech. problems. Wm. did not dance and now he does a little, with Cheryl still whirling all over him. Maria could barely walk or follow choreo and she has 3(at Least) dances with excellent execution, rumba, paso,waltz and the rest were with progressive improvement. She’s was a total non-dancer who has consistently given better and more memorable performances. No-one else would have had the patience to get her past wk 4 to find out what she could do.
We all have our favs, but IMO there is no reason to be as mean spirited as #Lisa was in her posts about Maria and Derek. To me, The green of envy and the big J of jealousy are all over posts like that. As Sgt. Friday in Dragnet says, “Just the facts, mam.” And just the facts are that Maria has absolutely made the most progress IN SPITE of being injured and that Derek Hough is THE MAN for choreo and exciting dances that showcase his partners in their best light. If you can’t take the heat, get out of the kitchen. My hope is that Maria, Donald, and Katherine are the final three with our golden boy and his Greek goddess walking out with the MBT!!

Donald is on the finals, and probably will win this season. I say this since his chacha and his a.tango and trio jive just make me be more sure about it.
He’s a footballer and he wants to win. More than any footballer that ever have been on DwtS.
The only one I thought could ever beat him was Katherine. But, for me, she did big-great on the jive. the rest was ok/good/nice but not wow. And part of it is Mark’s fault. The waltz should receive a 30, if had more hold on it. The trio would be excelent (and not overscored) with more excitement and no malfuncion…
William is ok as dancer. He has Cheryl who can make him pretend he’s a dancer. She’s smart. As smart as Derek in terms of playing her partner. She knows exactly what she’s doing. No wonder she reached so much finals… best dance for me is his foxtrot. he was relaxed and tecnically good and enjoying the performance.
Maria is a dear. Not as good tecnically on latin as she’s on ballroom. I don’t think Derek is at his best as choreographer this season. The highlight sure is the vampire paso, but didn’t deserve a 30… FOR ME, she’s at the same level as William. and both were overscored. He: salsa (10? really?), jive. She: salsa (repeated choreography, unnecessary kiss and shirt off), paso.
My opinion.
So I was thinking about the show tonight and it hit me: its right up against “AGT”! What do you guys think this will do to the rating for dwts?

But as Dee mentioned, she’s just trying to bug.
People need to start ignoring obvious trolls…she’s obsessed with Derek, mainly. Not sure why, but she is.
I just hope Maria “requests” strongly, from the producers, to try a little harder to present something positive in her packages or do a “little better”than they did on GMA. Time to level the playing field and let votes decide instead of trying to “skew and spin” people towards a specific goal, without many not even realising that’s how they are being played…like that’ll ever happen.
@Winnie – 75 email accounts?? Seriously! To each his own I guess. There is has never been a contestant on this show ever, that I would devote that much time voting for. All I gotta say, is you better get a nap in today….

After doing some thinking today about past semi-finals, I’ve noticed that this season’s final 4 closely mirrors that of season 5′s semi-final group.
Helio/William- the Latin male contestant with a popular pro who is also a champion. The crowd loves them but technically speaking they aren’t the strongest, and neither can do no wrong in the judges’ eyes towards the end of the season.
Mel B/Katherine- the British female singer who is probably the strongest technician of all the contestants left. Consistent towards the top or at the top and gets lots of 10′s.
Jennie/Maria- The woman in her 30′s partnered with Derek who is a strong technician but has lacked confidence on certain dances.
Marie/Donald- the semi finalist with arguably the biggest fan base. Both are contestants who have good showmanship, but not the greatest technical dancer of the 4. The contestant the judges avoid giving amazing scores to.
If this season pans out exactly like that season, the placements will be:
4th: Maria
3rd: Donald
2nd: Katherine
1st: William
Although I could argue that Katherine and William could easily be switched in somewhat of a role reversal of the top 2 in season 5. Mel B probably lost because of a lackluster freestyle, but Mark has a better track record of freestyles than Maks does, and Cheryl, while a great freestyle choreographer hasn’t always done great freestyles (Cristian and Gilles come to mind).
@Matt – are you seriously comparing Donald to Marie Osmond?! good lord.
Heidi: Don’t you think if Derek couldn’t go on it would have been announced already. Maybe he is ok? hopefully!
@Beka. The first 3 contestants seemed to fit Mel/Helio/Jennie more. Marie was the only option to compare him to. To be fair, they both are contestants who have good showmanship, but not the best technical dancer of the final 4 of their seasons. That’s about the only comparison I could make with Marie and Donald. The rest fit the other 3 better.
@Matt: Those were good comparisions in my opinion. Marie is a great dancer like Donald is (her quickstep was AWESOME (the good morning one…or was that a foxtrot….either way it was great).
Did William just get a 10 for that? Wow I can already see how this night scoring is going o go down smh

Glad I’m not the only one that didn’t think it was overscored. The mood was there but something was jsut off about it. Bruno really was not uisng his head on that decision.
