Would Ralph Macchio Do Dancing With The Stars Again?
People.com has a nice little article posted about Ralph Macchio guest starring on Wednesday’s Happily Divorced finale. They also asked him he’d “be reaching for his dancing shoes once more” for the upcoming new All-Stars season on Dancing With The Stars? Below is a take for how he answered back.
“I would be flattered and privileged for them to ask me, and I think that on that day I would take a look,” he says. “I always enjoyed creating and telling stories with dance.”
He’s also “friends for life” with his former ballroom partner, pro Karina Smirnoff, but with all that, when pressed he admits that he’s not “dying to jump back onto the dance floor,” adding, “If I was 25, it would be a little bit easier. It’s a lot tougher to be over 40 and do that show.”
Still, should it happen that he’s selected for a parquet encore, “I said to my wife, ‘I’m gonna have to shave my head, do a little tanning and start throwing that football around if I want to go back,’ ” says Macchio, in reference to past winners Hines Ward, J.R. Martinez and Donald Driver. “At the end of the day … it’s a show.”
Oh, I so hope he does the show if asked again. If he were to say “yes”, please let the judges treat him right this time.

Heh. Sounds like he has no illusions about the show, as isn’t sure he wants to get hosed a second time. Can’t blame the guy.
If they can’t get Mario Lopez or J.R Martinez (still my fav male winner on the show ever) then they should get ralph.
Since Mario got a call long time ago, I have no hope for people who haven’t got the call.
I don’t blame Ralph if he doesn’t do it though. JR, Chelsea, and Raphl should have been in the final that season.
I loved Ralph, but he is dead right about the age issue. Having done the show once is one thing, but agreeing to put your middle aged body through it again is almost ridiculous.
Someones career really must be in the toilet to put their middle-aged body through that torture again. It will be interesting to see just which celebrities fall into that caategory for the All-Stars.
I hope the age thing doesn’t prevent the return of Kirstie Alley to the ballroom! She was so much fun to watch and could dance really well.
I really enjoyed Ralph and his partnership with Karina. He was definitely my favorite during the season he was on. I was disappointed and upset, as many others were, on how he was eliminated. Although I would love to see him dance again, I’m not sure how it’ll be better the second time around. DWTS owe many of us a Ralph and Karina freestyle. I’m quite certain he would’ve had enough votes
I’d love to see Ralph dance again, but I don’t have any expectations that he would be treated any better by the judges than he was last time.
Man, I’m starting to worry abou this all-star season now – seems like some of the celebs the fans really want to see have already made it pretty clear they don’t want to come back….and the celebs that would definitely come back are not necessarily the ones that fans want to see.
I can’t blame Ralph for being reluctant to return – and while I agree that it would probably be hell on his body, I think the potential damage the judges could wreak on his ego is even more of a deterrent. He will go down in DWTS history for me as the celeb who was treated like absolute sh*t by the judges, and undeservedly so. If Ralph is on TPTB’s short list for the all-star season and they can’t get him, they have the judges to blame, IMO.
ITA, Courtney. I’d feel better about Season 15 if it was declared a “no manipulation zone” – things like giving the pimp spot out on a rotation, a pledge from TPTB that there won’t be any storyboarding, etc… I think Ralph got crapped-on so badly because his demographic overlapped with Kirstie, and TPTB were really pushing Romeo and Chelsea Kane for the younger demo. Sad, really…
Probably not for “younger demo”, but because of Bristol outlasting Brandy saga they pushed WTA cha cha 15pts on Kane. All just to “prove” something. If the fans wanted Ralph, then we should have gotten Ralph….period. At least he could dance a bit, was liked and wanted to be there.
Maddy, JR wasn’t on the same season with Chelsea and Ralph, that was Hines.
Well Sherry, we’ll agree to disagree on that one…
I’m a firm believer that the WTA cha-cha was there to make sure TPTB could storyboard the Season 12 finale, making sure that the younger demo was represented, and therefore watching. If I recall, Ralph overcame a HUGE deficit (somewhere around 25K votes per million) to get past Romeo for the semi-finals as well – the “Ralphing” started the week prior to that, I think. It was TPTB trying to skew the demographics younger – I think they would have loved a semi-final of Hines, Kirstie, Romeo, and Chelsea, probably would have enjoyed a finale of Hines, Romeo, and Chelsea.
If they ask him to do it, I hope he reconsiders. I might actually be able to get into seeing Ralph dance with Anna.
just was watching “happily divorced” online. he was in the finale and looks like might be there next season! He was pretty good too!
Of course he was, Vin. Ralph Macchio is a good actor and darn good dancer
@Sunflower: I knew he was a good actor in drama like the karate kid but not comedy. he really surprised me. If they don’t make him a regular next season they are dumb.
@vin – Fran Dreschers voice is spine tingling, I can barely take my fingers off of the mute button. But it was all worth it to see Ralph…
Is “Happily Divorced” any good? I don’t usually watch sitcoms (especially ones with laugh tracks- ugh- unless they’re in the Norman Lear calibre) but I’ll watch to check out Ralph. In fact I think he should get more acting roles, period. Law and Order anyone?
I loved Ralph with Karina. their Romeo and Juliet waltz is one of my favourites of all time.
Screw Bruno!
@sunflower: its funny but predictable. im just too lazy to change the chanel after watching hot in cleveland half the time and thats how i started watching.
maybe no to law and order. i think i read somewhere svu isn’t doing so great anymore and ,ight be gone soon.
Thanks Vin. Now I really want to see Ralph participate in the all-star season, after all this talk about him. (too lazy even with a remote? Lol)
Yeah lol I reccomend watching one episode jsut to see Rita Moreno and Robert Walden as Fran’s parents. They are hysterical and kinda like the Barones on “ELR” but without the mean aspects.
I enjoyed Ralph on his season and he should leave it at that. I’d rather see him acting on sitcoms and dramas than on a reality show.
Ralph kind of falls into the same category for me as Maria, Helio, Stacey K..and a couple others whose names escape me now. Wanting to learn to dance, eagar, pleasant and fun to watch. Judges were horrible to Ralph, but I’d prefer him to return to dance with Karina over JR. Karina and Ralph’s pairing for me was like Derek and Maria. It seemed natural, believable and it was great to see them (Ralph and MariA) progress in their dances and revel in it.
