Tom Bergeron Excited About Angle Taken For New All-Star Season of Dancing With The Stars
Tom Bergeron had glowing things to say to Zap2It about the mark Richard Dawson left on “Family Feud”. Tom tries to use that same kind of “poking fun” and “spontaneity” (boy, does he ever! 🙂 ). Tom also discussed the new upcoming All-Star Season of Dancing With The Stars. Below is more about what he’s excited for….
“I’m very excited about that,” he confirms, “particularly since it’s now a broader canvas than had originally been discussed. At one point, there was talk of doing sort of a ‘second chance’ season for contestants who came close, but didn’t quite get the coveted mirrorball trophy.
“Then, the powers that be thought it might be more fun to open it up and even include former champions and fan favorites who might not have had a snowball’s chance going in, but were always very charismatic and popular. I think that turns it into more of a celebration of the show itself, and I’m excited about that angle.”
I’m excited too. I agree how having the “very charismatic and popular” contestants will be just as fun as the winners themselves. Afterall, this show is about entertainment as much as skill.
Stay tuned. Tom is prepping to host PBS’ “A Capitol Fourth” concert special for the first time on Wednesday, July 4th. More on everything at Zap2It.
By mixing previous winner/winners with a bunch of different celebs will make the outcome of Season 15 absolutely predictable. The winner/s will win AGAIN. JMO
I was excited about an All-Star season UNTIL they announced that past winners and controversial contestants would be asked back. Not so excited now.
I agree. I would have much preferred the “second chance” season he mentioned. 🙁
I disagree, Alicia. I think you have to take into account that the demographics of the individual seasons played some role in each of the winners winning – for example, Brooke Burke may have won her season, but had she been on the same season as Donny Osmond? I highly doubt she still would have walked away with the MBT. Likewise, I think Mya could have won on a different season. You also have to consider that they won with a certain pro – could they do it again with another one? I don’t think Brooke could have won with, say, Tony; I also wonder if Mya might have nabbed the MBT if she had been paired with Derek or even Mark. Some previous winners may not be in peak competition shape – Jennifer Grey comes to mind. She may have hobbled through season 11 and managed to come out on top; but can her body take it again? Then there’s demographic splitting – Donny had almost exclusive dominance over the middle-aged female demographic in season 9. But what if you put him on a season with Kirstie Alley, another juggernaut in the middle-aged female demographic? Both might be sharing votes, which could allow someone else to slip in and nab the MBT. Each season is a unique combination of variables – and if you change one variable, it can change the entire outcome of the show. That’s exactly what the all-star season is doing – tweaking the variables. And we all learned in algebra that if you change x, you’ll consequently change y. I think it’s entirely possible that a non-winner could beat more than 1 previous winner for the MBT on the all-star season, given a new set of variables.
I agree different pairing could make a difference for celeb that did have a chance to win due to his/her natural dancing ability, previous training or both. But I’m talking about “likable” or “controversial” celebs. Do they have better chance of winning when they compete against someone who proved to be a better dancer with the crowd on their side? It will never be a competition between Nicole and Carson (just an example). So to me, pick celebs that can dance and let new pairing, (meaning different choreo and chemistry) prove that they do deserve to go further in a competition or even win.
To me, this smacks of “We really want Carson to come back for another season.” (Me? Not so much, but I can think of people who I’d care to see even less, so I won’t grouse.)
Courtney:
I agree with you. As far as Jennifer Grey goes, she said she could never compete on a reality dance competition show again cause her body couldn’t take it. But asked if she would dance with Derek again, she said yes. So as far as the all star season goes, if all MBT winners won’t complete why can’t they do the best dances with that partner as part of the results shows. This way we can see other previous winners, including J. Grey dance again if not on a competition level. what do you think?
I agree with you,Margaret. I think that would be a great idea for results shows…much better than being put thru more (same)hip-hop routines or some of the lip-singing “stars” we have been treated to. How bout a great ballroom dance by a former star, the only thing is I hope they would actually give it time to make it good.
That being said, I would LOVE a season of former champs competing–Kym/Donnie, Drew/Cheryl, Derek/Nicole,Mark/Kristie,Karina/JR. I know they couldn’t have 12 couples but maybe they could make it an interum season with hour long shows or maybe have any other champs perform with a different pro(like maybe Hines with Anna, Kelly M with Tristan, Helio with Peta) God there would be some great dancing, quality dancing and it would be fierce competition, I bet. So exciting and fun.
Okay, so I checked because those Chelsie numbers are just too bizarre. There were 32 referrals from a Chelsie fan site in the past 7 days (poll was posted less than four days ago). There was also a lot of email account referrals – I would bet those Chelsie fans are doing some serious work. You guys do know that this poll doesn’t COUNT, right? LOL
By the way, the Tristan fans are still hard at it too. 33 referrals from a Tristan fansite in the past 7 days. 20 referrals from another Tristan fanpage. And, interestingly enough, 40 referrals from a Cheryl Burke fan site.
I didn’t see anything from Derek, Maks, Mark or Val fansites….but 132 from a Apolo/julianne fansite. Some ships never die. 🙂
i disagree with anyone who says that putting back previous winners with non winners is a bad idea BECAUSE, its like how the pros work (derek comes to mind) derek has won 3 MBT but with certain partners i mean cmon maria was so good but did he win no. So im guessing that say brooke burke was on again she might not win with a previous non-winner i think that because she might have less fans than a non-winner. Maks is a really good dancer he NEVER won yet, mostly because he is mean to his partners but than again it might be because his partner isn’t getting enough votes to stay in the competition. Peta is a really good dancer too but look she was i think first to get kicked off last season and this past season she took home the MBT. So say you put back Bristol Palin she came in third she might not come in third again because they might have other people who didn’t compete with her there-for people won’t vote for her they will vote for the person they want to win. Kirstie Alley came in third say she was on again she might come in fifth this time because they will have winners on and non winners. Hines Ward season 12 winner he is a football player say he was on again, he might not win because they will have another football player on or that football player not win because maybe an actor wins or maybe a past winner wins again. Maybe a winner will come in second this time and a non-winner will win but will we ever know? NO we won’t we won’t because we aren’t giving this season a chance to come out yet. Of course a majority amount won’t like it but than again a majority amount will love and i am one who will love it.
