Considering that is the day of the Opening Ceremonies on NBC how much do you wanna bet that ABC is trying to lure viewers to seeing the cast announcement.

The network, which hasn’t officially set its fall premiere dates yet, will debut the ensemble of previous DWTS competitors during its presentation at the Television Critics Association summer press tour.
Previously, announcements for DWTS have come just three weeks shy of the premiere and been televised during Good Morning America or the network’s primetime programming block. The move also signals that the cast will have more time to prepare for the competition — or, less likely, an August premiere.
This sounds early to announce the cast but oookkkaaayyyy.
My thought was that the rumours folks thought were outlandish or iffy given that we are so far away from the new season, really aren’t if they’re announcing on the 27th.
It’s a good thing I can watch the TV and be on the computer at the same time.
i just saw it on the offical dwts twitter feed from @dancingABC….so its only a matter of time…so curious.
Maybe since it’s opening ceremonies, Shawn Johnson will be back

Hmmm….Same day as Olympics. Tom said we were going to get a summer surprise. Very curious.
I’m pretty sure seeing as it’s the All Star Season, they want to get as much hype for it as they can. I’m sure this is the very reason they’re releasing the cast list so early. But I’m still excited!
Are they annoucning the cast from london? thats all i could think of.

I just had a thought – probably a dumb one because it gives TPTB some credit, but… let’s say they’re doing a mix of old couples and new couples, which I kind of expect for ratings purposes, then the long lead time would let the new couples maybe catch up with the established ones? So there’s no ‘unfair’ whining about chemistry and the like?
Or you know… they’re desperate?
I just saw it on my FB and came straight here. I bet they tell us the cast but make us sweat it out on the pairings for a while! Though…with paparazzi and such camped outside LA Dance studios, that might easily be found out? I dunno, I’m just excited we don’t have to wait.

Does anyone know for sure when the first show airs? Maybe they will start earlier to bump new shows instead of getting lost in the mix? Perhaps with a larger cast of 14 stars?
Also, since they’re announcing earlier, probably means they have their cast and want to avoid too many leaks if they wait til later.
well Maks did a Q & A on his twitter feed the other day and someone asked if he will be back and he responded like “most likely” or “i believe so”…so that makes me think the pros know whats up.
I just hope none of the people that won comes back.
I am hoping that this is just for ratings. I have to say I am scared! I don’t trust TPTB! Maybe, they are putting this out there early to see everyone’s reactions. It scares me that the Bristol rumor just came out. Please no controversy. I was watching Season 5 over the weekend; and I remembered how much fun it was to watch DWTS back then. Less themes, less drama – they just danced! Granted, I think the difficulty level is higher now, but does it really have to be? The stars are not looking for a dance contract; it’s for a little publicity to wake up their careers and a challenge to themselves. Perhaps this is why they have trouble getting stars to do the show. It is like training for the Navy Seals! And, when Derek and Peta were in London mid-June, they couldn’t reveal why for at least a month. Well, that would put the reveal around July 27th. Are they going to combine some stars from “Strictly Come Dancing” and DWTS for the All Stars?

I saw the annoncement on Tristan McManus Fan Facebook page. This is a whole month earlier than usual. I remember seeing a tweet from Tom Bergeron about having a treat for us this summer or something to that affect. This must be what he was talking about. Have to keep our eyes open for cast leaks.
Evaine, I think the old couples will have an advantage no matter the lead time. And, frankly, if I was a pro I might be pissed to have a month of my time to do other (read: more profitable) things taken away on some whim of TPTB.
First show is rumored for the 24th of Sept. And there is no guarantee that they start rehearsing right away. They might start at the same time.
Kristin, that explains why Derek said “strong possiblity” a few weeks ago when asked. Crap. I want him to do something else. Something that doesn’t piss me off for 10 weeks twice a year.
Celebrity announcement two months before the alleged premiere of Season 15? All about the ratings and I agree TPTB have zero regard for the pros.
@ Heidi I want Derek’s movie to come out! Can’t wait to see him do some tapping (sp?). Hopefully that will open the door a bit more for him like Footloose did for Julianne. However, you have to admit, it wouldn’t be DWTS All-Stars without Derek Hough!
I suspect that this will be far from the first WTF that we experience for this season.
Maybe they are giving this much lead time because some of the returnees are doing other things and have to practice between those other committments. Normally they announce and then everyone kills themselves for 3 solid weeks doing nothing else, right? Or maybe they are going to stretch out rehearsals to every other day, to lessen chance of so many injuries? Sure hope pros get to start so they get paid.
BTW,has it been confirmed that Mel B/Nicole S. are already signed to do other shows in other countries, so can’t participate or did I imagine that I read that somewhere? I keep hearing their names…prob just bait, instead we’ll get Kate G. and Cloris, I suppose !!
One of the only good things I can see with an early cast announcement is the relentless twitter campaigning on behalf of some celebrities might cease, especially if the campaign instigator’s celebrity is part of the cast.
Heidi..well D retweeted the ABC message of an early announcement so as far as i can tell our boy is a “GO” for the all star season! boo:) i mean honestly who can he dance with that will even give him a chance? Please no Maria…they just stopped dancing like yesterday and honestly she really isn’t that good, esp to compete on an all star show. Brooke? She has said that she would want too, and the only other person i could see is Jennie- which people will side with her like they did Ricki..she has the likeability factor and esp since she has a crew of scorned and divorced women standing behind her! lol Honestly- i would like to see a complete shake up this year…either rotating partners, or all stars back with new partners….who knows. i have a feeling they will announce the cast- but not the pros…that will come out closer to showtime.
I have a feeling that the producers have known which cast members they have wanted in the All-Stars edition for quite some time. Not sure if any amount of campaigning will help the ones that are nowhere near the list.
Having said that, I wish they would stick to only the true All-Stars and really make it a fight to the finish. The likes of Bristol and Kate and even someone like Master P are simply fodder and would ruin the show.
I’m afraid you’re right, Evaine. Pretty sure their idea of “all stars” will be NOTHING like mine.
But the very evil side of my brain wants something that would be deemed outrageous (in some quarters) to happen…like Derek paired with Sabrina. Or Tristan paired with Erin. Or Brandy paired with Tristan. Or Derek with Brandy. Something that would make some people lose. their. minds. Heh heh heh. I would KILL to see what Val or Maks would do with someone like Bristol. But Derek or Tristan will likely get stuck with her.
ETA that if anyone can put Bristol in her place, it’s Maks – but he might actually kill her so that might not be the best idea.
I don’t think she could handle either Maks OR Derek, for that matter.
so what do you guys think- are the allstars going to be paired with their originals? or are they going to get a new pro? I mean Cheryl has Drew Lachey and Gilles who expressed interest in coming back. Maks has Kristy, Mel B. Mark has Bristol, Chelsea, & Sabrina…i mean if a pro has 2 people wanting and willing it makes me think that they will not be dancing with their original or maybe some will and some won’t? What about allstars that their pro is no longer on the show? hmmm…i hate suspense.

I wonder if they really would pair Derek or Maks with Bristol?. I remember an interview Mark Ballas gave and he said the reason he was given Bristol was because he was the only one that would be able to handle her and that Derek and Maks would have been too intense…basically it was Mark saying nobody else could have did what he did with her.
Maks and Bristol. Now that’s a scary thought. If we thought Hope and Maks were a bad mix, we haven’t seen nothing yet.
I imagine he’d quit the show before having to dance with her.
Hopefully the closest hse gets to that dance floor again is sitting in the audience (same for Kate Gosselin and Kenny Mayne lol)
I think Maks would last a couple of week s before he pulls a tony dovalani and flips out like tony did with kate gosselin (still my fav non ancing moment ever on the show……plus kate’s expression of confusuin and horror was pretty funny.)
If Mark did say that Lisa, then he can get Bristol again.
We know Maks and Derek are intense. They even admit it but Mark…pot…kettle. Do you remember yourself just this past season during the group rehearsal? Losing your rag and you were paired with Katherine! Or his season with Melissa or all of season 12?
I feel instead of a true all stars of the best we are going to get who is available or basically the typical cast with past members ( ” ringer”, athlete, models, etc). That is the inevitable drawback. I think there will be new pairings. If pros like Peta, Val or Tristan participate, they need to a new pairings. I doubt they will bring Edyta or Alec back. But you never know what tptb will do to grab ratings.
TCA is the Television Critics Association. They are visiting ABC July 27 as part of their yearly LA tour. I wonder if ABC even realizes this is opening day for the Olympics.
This comes as a big surprise-wowl I hope they are not expecting the contestants/pros to start practicing this early on. It really is kinda unfair to the pros…
I don’t know that I have any expectations because when I get excited TPTB, usually find a way to disappoint me. They are definitely looking to boost their ratings. Tom did say DWTS fans were going to get a sweet surprise in the next couple of weeks. I hope you’re right Tom!!

TCA = Television Critics Association. They hold conferences all the time and the networks talk about their shows and so on.
Mark may be right – he coddled her just right. Derek? Not huge on that kind of coddling. Maks? Nah. I’ve always thought that’s why Derek never gets the really young ones.
I had an anxiety attack when I saw this….now I hope the producers don’t screw up this whole All-Stars thing!Haha!Really can’t wait though!
My only problem with this is what if someone says they want to do it after they make the cast announcement? What then? A lot can happen in a month…
I wonder if they had some issues after the last season and the perception of a kinda of crappy cast and blah buzz and need the TCAs to help bolster their ad sales that they are probably close to locking down for the fall, as I’m pretty sure ABC is aware that the 27th is the opening day of the olympics
Maybe the spin will be their ‘olympic’ team of all-stars for the season. Guess it could play in the press, but all eyes will be on London, but they won’t get much play in guessing games during those two weeks anyway, so why not announce and get something. Then they can drag out the ‘partner’ announcement after the olympics.
but look on the bright side, we don’t have to watch a horrible episode of the bachelor or bachelorette to learn who the stars are….
Isn’t the Fall airing of DWTS always less in ratings numbers than the Spring version? And yes, the Olympics could be a reason to start the buzz for DWTS early.

Why can’t we have all the stars that can dance so the quality of the show will be fantastic? TPTB are going to cheapen this show for temporary ratings. Do they think all the tea baggers are still watching from Ssn 11? No – but if that non-star is on, they will be back temporarily. And if she is on, I say give her to Maks! He will straighten her out. Although, Mama Bear might have him deported!

I hate to say that I have low expectations for this season, but I do. Maybe I’ll be pleasantly surprised?
I much prefer to go into a season with low expectations and be pleasently surprised then the oppisite.

Unfortunately, the last few season have us miles backward and it is going to take a huge leap forward to be a ChaCha!
Bristol would never be paired with Maks. Her mother wouldn’t allow it and I can’t see Maks agreeing to it either.
I doubt Maks has a say, Cindy. Either you’re on the show or you’re not – the pros don’t vet the celebs. Now Mama Palin and Bristol herself may well object.

#49 Linz – you said everything perfectly!! I have loved this show from the beginning and they are ruining it. I thought the AllStar would be a great way to rejuvenate the show but it looks like it will be a big flop.
I really hope we are wrong and they do the right thing but that will never happen!!!

Awe, @Kae….. I love this show, since Season 3…. And TPTB/Producers have been there from the start, and they made the show what it is. They’re the reasons this site exists…. They’re the ones we LOVE! (to hate and complain about…)
Seriously, though, I think everyone knows that they have an incredibly difficult job, that is ongoing all year. Just casting the show takes a lot of skill to wrangle the stars, and get them to commit, and THERE! They’ve not always succeeded, but they’ve been trying, at least. If they didn’t, we wouldn’t have a show.
And, while I LONG to see the show that I came to love, where the pairs DANCED!! No themes, no gimmicks, no tricks, no added pressure, no surprises, no added challenges thrown to the pros at the last minute…. Just…. DANCING!!!! I must admit, that in itself can’t be difficult.
And look at the changes in TV, just in the years that DWTS has been on…. How many similar types of shows were there? Other that Idol and DWTS? As far as I’m aware, very few (not including Survivor or Amazing Race since both are pre-filmed and edited… Counting live performance shows) How many are there now? Unfortunately, ratings matter, and the result is we have all these new things they keep trying, to try to keep the viewership….

Hmmm? Bristol’s/Sarah’s fans got her to 3rd place with Mark. Can you imagine their fans plus Maks’ fan base voting?—Especially if he is a teddy bear like he was with Kirstie—now that he’s in lovey dovey land with Peta lol.

@sheery, I don’t think Bristol/Sarah’s fans are what they used to be. That was two years ago, right? I can’t remember what year corresponds with what season.
But, lol, as I said on another thread…it would be interesting to see if Maks’ fanbase would still vote like mad for someone they probably hate with a passion, i.e. Bristol or someone like her. That goes for any massive pro fanbase.
I’m just hoping that there are A LOT of stars ahead of her (and Kate) that have a big desire to come back and getting to her name on the list would never happen. I agree with everyone, she really doesn’t have the popularity she had when she was on. Her mother isn’t doing for attention so the only thing she has is her show which I can’t imagine there’s a huge audience for.
Thank goodness this announcement is on Friday July 27th. We are leaving for the mountains on the 28th (no TV, and very little cell phone reception)…. My vacay would have been miserable, I may have had to fake an illness or something just to come home early. So now all is good!!
