Time Set For Dancing With The Stars All Star Cast Announcement
Special Note! As previously reported, the new cast for the Dancing With The Stars All Star Season will be announced on Friday, July 27th at the ABC Summer Press Tour. ABC MediaNet has set up an exclusive page at their site for the proceedings. The Dancing With The Stars announcement will take place at 10:45am Pacific time. Be sure to take the day off from work if you can. 😉 😀

UPDATE #2: So, it’s 4 days before the cast announcement. Tom Bergeron just tweeted that they will be announcing all but one cast member. There is much speculation that this could mean that fans will vote on the un-announceed celebrity. When we find out more, we’ll be sure to let you know.

UPDATE #3: According to @DWTSGossip at twitter, the Dancing With The Stars All Star season will “have 12 couples. Tom and Brooke will announce 11 contestants and then present 3 more options and the fans will vote on the 12th celeb.”
Will it be televised though? I’d be disappointed if it wasn’t. It’s been televised every season since like season 4

So… 1:45 PM for us Easterners. 🙂 You’d think they might have timed it to be announced on ABCs new Good Afternoon America which starts at 2:00PM Eastern. They’re really doing things weird this season.
Vogue, when I clicked on the announcement date for July 27th there, it is talking about El Capitan Theater, GMA, and Season 14. Am I on the wrong page? Is there a Season 15 announcement that I missed on there? Thanks.

Well, right now they word it like it’s only going to be the “celebrities” announced, but who knows? I kind of hope they just announce just the celebrities so we can have fun speculating on which pros they will get for a while.
Please let them mean “Big” as in BIG NAMES not “big” as in more than 16(which was the largest so far, season 9).

Biggest season ever……hmmmmmm………..this better not mean more than 16 all stars are coming back. If so, I say extend the competition so we don’t have a bunch of double eliminations and whatnot. New celebrity contestants? I’ve haven’t looked at the link yet, but if they’re mixing all stars with new celebs, we’re in for a BIG OL’ trainwreck!

Why would she have an Olympics hash tag for anything related to DWTS?? It’s not even the same network.
That would be a bad idea, jo. They have to know that people who vote – and powervote – don’t necessarily reflect the average viewer. And the average viewer is pretty important.
What is she going to do though? Put a #DWTS hashtag? I’m not saying it’s automatically related to DWTS, but it is something that makes me a little on the suspicious side, whatever the hashtags are.
I agree with Heidi…I don’t think Shawn’s tweet has anything to do with DWTS. She also said it would be the beginning of the week, and the cast announcement is at the end of the week. Unrelated, IMO.

I can understand that. It was just speculation. It was really the “it involves you all” thing that made me think. Other than that, the tweet really didn’t mean much to me.
I was thinking today that maybe the reason why they are being announced so early is because they will let us vote for what pro dancer each All Star has. Like for example, for say, Sabrina they will give us the options of Mark, Derek, or Louis and we’ll vote online or something and then the pros will be announced in a few weeks. I would imagine, given that case, the popular pairings (Sabrina/Mark, Gilles/Cheryl, Mel/Maks, etc) will be victorious.
But also if Sabrina and Bristol (ugh) are part of the cast, Mark will be listed as an option for both but if Mark gets the most votes with both Bristol and Sabrina, Sabrina would get him because she was his partner first and Bristol would get who got the next most votes after Mark.
Matt when I read your comment my first thought was “think of all the web hits that would generate for ABC”. Good way to pick up advertising dollars in the summer.
Yeah, I doubt they are going to leave it up to viewers to pick the pros – this isn’t one dance, it’s an entire season that is resting on the shoulders of whichever fan group is the craziest. I don’t think they will take the chance that the Derek fans or Maks fans go – eh, fuck it. I want Derek/Maks to be in movies or do something else entirely. You can’t get ad dollars without RATINGS, after all.
Just think, the crazy Mark/Sabrina shippers not only spend 24 hours a day voting to get them on the show, but spend that time also making sure that Derek or Maks (or anyone who could beat them) is NOT on the show by voting for whoever they are up against.
Now that I think about it – it would be rather hilarious.
Voting for the pairings, while it wouldn’t work for the reasons Heidi stated above, it would be one of the only ways to get the Maks and Bristol/Kate pairing that I’d pay good money to watch. And roundup a bunch of friends for a viewing party per week they stay on.

I don’t think I like he idea of leaving one spot empty, and let the viewers vote on which will fill the spot….
The only GOOD thing about it, is when they announce the last contestant, we will have an idea of one group of fans who know how to power vote. Not sure why that’s a good thing, however.
I think the “vote for the last one” is going to be a winner, makes sense why kelly monaco was saying that we have to get involved in the announcement and shawn johnson said it too! …makes sense

I really would like to see Edyta come back for this season. I feel like when she left it was because she was unhappy on a number of fronts, specifically because Alex (her husband) had never won and second because she was paired with older men that were overweight and out of shape (for the most part).
I can’t prove these allegations but that’s what I suspect. I feel Edyta, just like Anna, would absolutely wipe the floor with the competition if she was given a partner that could excel technically and had built in popularity. Anna got to number 2 with Evan Lysacek (sp?) and I know she could get back there or even win it with the right partner.
Same for Edyta. I feel technically she is a top notch dancer, on par with the Houghs, but never got a chance to show that because she was either paired with people that weren’t popular or were horrible dancers or both. Give Edyta an NFL player and lets see who wins week after week!
If Shawn is part of the “Vote for…” crowd, and “supposedly” Sabrina is on…..who gets Mark? LOL

The reason I asked is Donny and Marie are scheduled the first 3 weeks of November at the Flamingo. Per Marie’s twitter.
Ryan, Edyta had a football player as a partner and didn’t win. He was tall, slender, good looking and had natural talent…. AND had Carrie Ann crushing on him. And one time, I do remember CAI pointing out obvious mistakes, and hen saying, “but I don’t care, because you’re just too beautiful!”….. Or something similar.
Ryan R, I love Edyta, too…but she did have plenty of chances. She had an NFL player, as Lori said. His name was Jason Taylor, and IMO he was pretty awesome. It was too bad that he was up against Kristi Y in his season 🙁
Edyta also had Joey Lawrence, who, while a lot of people don’t really like him, he wasn’t at all a bad dancer. Cameron Mattheson (I probably spelled his name wrong) was no slouch either. I think Edyta just didn’t have a dynamic enough personality. She was gorgeous and a wonderful dancer, but she just wasn’t spunky like the rest of the female pros. Every single one of them who have been regular pros,from Karina to Cheryl to Lacey and all the rest, had much more personality than Edyta.
And Alec did win, in season one with Kelly Monaco. I think his problem as a pro was the same as Edyta. The other male pros just had more personality in their little fingernails than Alec did in his entire body. That’s not to say I don’t like Alec and Edyta. I enjoyed watching them both on the show (Edyta much more so). But IMO, they just didn’t measure up with their peers when it came to being a great TV personality.
As much as many of you would like to see Edyta back, I daresay she has done a pretty good job of burning any bridges she had remaining at DWTS – burning them, gathering up the ashes, and scattering them in the wind. Even if she & Alec did want to come back (and I highly doubt they ever would), TPTB would be fools to take them back after all the ranting they did on their Dance Temptation page – and I very much doubt that TPTB would be eager to take them back, either. It’s been 4 seasons since Alec & Edyta flew the coop, and things seem to be fine & dandy over at DWTS without them.
I’ve never thought TPTB’s gimmicks have been this ridiculous(except maybe season 12) until now, and the season hasn’t even startes yet. Let’s review, the cast announcement date is extremely early this year, most likely due to voting for the last all star to be Derek’s partner, and the cast is announced during the day. Whack-a-doodle-doo.
I wonder if the All Star Season will have 14 celebs – one from each prior season, and the audience vote is between Kelly & John O’Hurley, who just can’t quite get it through his head that he did not win. not the first time, not the second time, not any time.

Who ever wins that 11th spot is bound to at least make the Final 3 because. I mean, I agree with everyone above when they said it’ll be a good indicator on who people will vote for.

Not really, Tony. They’ll only be competing with two other people who want to be on the show…not the other cast that IS on the show. So it won’t imply anything.
Do we know for sure that the Critics event won’t be televised? If not, then I would imagine that someone at the event will be tweeting the announcement, whether officially or otherwise.
TCA events are usually not televised. But all the major news sites on tweet live from the event. They have been for all week. Maybe abc will release a clip of Tom announcing the names but I will just check on twitter. Between Hollywood reporter to tvline, pretty sure I will get the cast names very quickly 🙂

Wait and see if the one public has to vote on will be Maks partners….
I am wondering if they are not leaving the last slot up for grabs because we will be asked to choose between three “controversial contestants”. If the three remaining options that we get to choose from were all truly fabulous choices, I can’t imagine TPTB leaving that up to the fans and not just locking in the best dancer from the get-go. I would think they would nail down all the stars, and then maybe leave the pro partner selection to the fans to some extent. But I have a sneaking suspicion that the remaining 12th star will be the “controversial” one. Hope I’m wrong, and that they leave out the controversy altogether. 8)
I think it’s possible that the 12th celebrity will be one of Maks’ partners.
An example: if they have Misty, Mel B and Erin and then the viewers have to pick which one they’d prefer to dance with Maks again.
I think that it will be controversial stars as the viewers can then vote and try and reduce complaints. It could be Kelly Monaco, Bristol Palin and Kate Gosselin up against each other.
I doubt Erin will ever be asked soon since she is now serving on Fox Sports. No more support from Mickey Mouse for her
