Mark Ballas Discusses His Chances of Winning DWTS All Stars With Bristol Palin And More (New Interview)

Mark Ballas talks about the Dancing With The Stars All Stars season with Entertainment Weekly. He explains how the pros had nothing to do with partnering and he’s not upset to be partnered with Bristol Palin. Below is more about how he gets her to lighten up, how they handle negative press, their chances in winning, and more.

What’s it like having a partner that generates so much press?

It’s a big responsibility. When the tabloids go nuts, it can be tough. I’m not here to talk about politics or about what her mother says. I’m here to dance. This show is called Dancing with the Stars. I’m here to train a person, make them feel comfortable, beautiful. But it can get frustrating. This is not what the show is about.

Any negative press about Bristol must get in the way of rehearsals, too.

Of course, it’s in the back of her mind in the studio. I have to get her to forget it. I have to distract her.

What was always job one with her?

I was always trying to bring her out of a shell. Maybe we weren’t the best dance team, but we were the most improved.

How are you feeling about your chances this season?

She looks amazing. She’s lost weight and she is getting in shape. She might be more confident, ready to get out and shake it. We’ve been through this process before. I told her to do some homework, re-watch all of our dances. She has to bring it out even more this time. Last time, it came out moderately. She’s a sexy girl. She looks great dressed up. She has to own it, to not be shy. This show is about taking you out of your comfort zone and owning it.

And her costumes this season?

This time around I’ll see if she’s willing to try a sexier outfit.

I’m very curious to see if she’s done her homework? Time will soon tell.

Kym Johnson Talks About Dancing With The Stars And Joey Fatone At StyleHaus Fashion Show

Thursday night, Kym Johnson attended StyleHaus’ fall fashion preview which featured the runway debut of MAXFOWLES. At the exclusive show, she told Hollywood Reporter that she likes to attend fashion previews of this nature to get ideas on how to design her dance costumes for Dancing With The Stars. Kym also had a few things to say about her Dancing With The Stars All Stars partner Joey Fatone. Apparently. he wants to do some hip-hop. LOL! Below is more….

“We have such a great friendship, we’ve been friends the whole time, so it’s gonna be a different dynamic cause we know each other so well,” she says. “I’m definitely going to push him a bit harder.”

Johnson also teases that Fatone may be pushing her to new limits, as well.

“I think he’s wanting to do a bit of hip-hop. I don’t know about that, I’m not very good at hip-hop. So we’ll see, he might be pushing me,” she jokes.

You can read the full story at the Hollywood Reporter. There is also a beautiful picture of Kym.

DWTS All Stars Las Vegas Odds After Announcement Of Wildcard Couple

So, now that the 13th couple has been announced for the Dancing With The Stars All Star Season, let’s see what the odds makers in Las Vegas have to say about it. Below is a run down of the Las Vegas Odds from a previous posting when we first found out who would be dancing. After that is the NEW Las Vegas Odds from Sports Bovada. Note how they still have Pamela coming in last. They’ve also lowered Bristol and Melissa. Helio and Apolo have been switched around with Apolo at the top.

First preliminary Las Vegas Odds the before 13th couple was announced:

Helio Castroneves 9/2
Apolo Anton Ono 5/1
Emmitt Smith 6/1
Shawn Johnson 6/1
Drew Lachey 7/1
Joey Fatone 7/1
Kelly Monaco 15/2
Gilles Marini 10/1
Kirstie Alley 10/1
Melissa Rycroft 12/1
Bristol Palin 15/1
Kyle Massey/Sabrina Bryan/Carson Kressley 20/1
Pamela Anderson 25/1

New preliminary Las Vegas Odds AFTER the 13th couple was announced:

Apolo Anton Ono 9/2
Helio Castroneves 5/1
Emmitt Smith 6/1
Shawn Johnson 6/1
Drew Lachey 15/2
Joey Fatone 15/2
Gilles Marini 9/1
Kirstie Alley 14/1
Kelly Monaco 15/1
Sabrina Bryan 15/1
Melissa Rycroft 18/1
Bristol Palin 25/1
Pamela Anderson 40/1

So, do the odds makers have it right or wrong?

I think they have Helio way too high. He should be more towards the bottom. I also think they are underestimating Gilles. They are underestimating Pamela as well. I think Kirstie is going to be more of a force than many realize too. Let’s get my sistah’s thoughts because they are ‘in the know’ if you know what I mean. :D Be sure you let us know your thoughts too in the comment section.

Courtney: They still have Helio too high.  I get it, he’s a fun, popular guy – but in a sea of fantastic dancers? He’s gonna look a bit weak.  And I wouldn’t underestimate the comedic appeal of a sultry American bombshell paired with a modest, boy-next-door Irishman ;-) Not so sure why they have Kelly so high – are they banking on her soap opera fanbase to pull her through? Because I doubt it’s going to be her dance skills keeping her around…and judging from what I’ve seen so far, she also seems to have a bit of a lack of motivation to really get competitive.  Emmitt? Also too high – I think that, like Helio, they’re banking on his personality carrying him through, and seem to forget that he maybe wasn’t the strongest champion we’ve had and he’s also in his 40’s now…with a lifetime of football injuries under his belt.  I actually think they have Gilles about right – I don’t think he’s going to do as well this season as we may have originally thought, based on the fact that he seems a bit bummed about not getting his preferred partner…and the jury’s still out on his actual partner’s choreographic skills.

Heidi: I think just about the ONLY thing they’ve gotten right is Apolo at the very top (although he may not actually win) and the first five eliminations (although not necessarily in that order)…sort of. I think Helio is way too high, as is Emmett. I kind of agree with where they put Gilles, too.  More because he seems to have Brandy-itis this time around – that is, an extreme desire to WIN at all costs. That’s off putting to a lot of people.  Including me, and I love Gilles. He needs to RELAX.  I don’t know who will be the first person out, but I do think it will be one of those bottom five women they have listed…and I think they might be about right with Kirstie as well.  What you have to think about in this instance is not JUST the ability of a given dancer, but the ability and fanbase of all the other dancers on the show at the same time. That’s why I’m not sure that Kirstie is going to get anywhere near the final, let alone the top five,  and that Helio and Emmett are over rated. That’s also why it’s very possible that Pam could be the first out, followed by Kelly, Melissa and Sabrina.  But really – this season is going to be difficult to predict.  The test of any fanbase on this show will be how they survive not being at the top of the leader board. It could be as simple as “you’re at the bottom, you’re out” – and I think that could apply to several of our celebrities this time around. The ones that I think NEED to not be at the bottom of the leaderboard the first week are Pam, Bristol, Kelly, Helio and maybe Drew.

DWTS 15 All-Stars: The Great “Previous Dance Experience” Debate – Sabrina Bryan Edition

Let’s continue on our journey through this season’s couples today with a look at the fan-appointed 13th contestant – Sabrina Bryan.  And if you want to refer to my previous editions of the series, check out the Helio Castroneves edition – there are links to all the previous posts at the top.  :-)

I picked Sabrina & Mark’s perfect-scoring paso doble as her best dance:

And as her worst dance, I picked her foxtrot, which was the dance that ultimately sent her home:

Echoing Len’s sentiments after Sabrina’s foxtrot, the thing that jumps out at me in both dances is that Sabrina just hits everything so HARD – which is sometimes good (in dances like the paso doble & tango), but can often be bad (in slower, more fluid dances like the foxtrot).  The impact she gives each line & step seems to be a product of her hip-hop training from the Cheetah Girls, possibly mixed with some jazz/Broadway musical-style training.  If having really sharp, flashy hands is considered “jazz hands”, then I think Sabrina might have an entire jazz body – which could be problematic.  Obviously it’s a huge advantage in very aggressive dances like the paso doble (which is why I think her paso doble is her best dance), but when you’ve got a dance like the foxtrot that is supposed to be slick & fluid, and you’re hitting each line with the force of a sledgehammer – it’s time to dial back the aggression.  If she can overcome that, she’s obviously got some good musicality and stage presence for Louis to work with…but the question is: will he know how best to utilize it? Even in Louis’ stronger seasons (like Kelly Osbourne’s), I find that he often doesn’t seem to know quite how to choreograph to his partner’s strengths and weaknesses – and even though Sabrina might be his strongest partner yet, it won’t mean anything if he doesn’t know how to tap into that talent.

So obviously, like Joey, one thing that may give Sabrina an edge in this season is the time she’s spent in the Vegas show prior to now – she’s been dancing for 3 months already.  Will it help? Well…I’d say yes & no.  I’ve said it before, but I think anyone that’s been doing any kind of onstage performing the past year or so will likely have a bit of an edge, just due to their performance skills not getting rusty.  However, as with Joey, I think Sabrina spent a good deal of time in Vegas doing stuff that wasn’t “strictly ballroom” – she did quite a bit of more jazzy, hip-hop influenced stuff, and even her paso doble with Ryan DiLello felt a little watered down to me.  Is Vegas really going to help when it comes to remembering the finer points of samba & foxtrot? Probably not.  And you also have to keep in mind that Sabrina was doing the same routines, night after night – if they looked fabulous, it was because she had had weeks to perfect them.  Will she be able to adjust to back to the breakneck pace of the tv show, where she only has a few days to learn a dance?

Court’s verdict: Sabrina’s got potential – she’s a good dancer and a good showman.  But if she wants to be a contender, she needs to soften her lines, and make sure she’s “strictly ballroom” – no hip-hop or jazz infusion.  And Louis will have to deliver some great choreography to really make her stand out.

What are your thoughts on Sabrina? Is this her season to win, or could it just be a repeat of season 5?

Derek, Mark, And Romey Hit the Beach in Malibu

Well, at least Derek and Mark are getting in their fun times before rehearsals start TODAY.  The Daily Mail and Zimbio have dozens of pictures of Derek, with some of Mark thrown in for good measure.  Don’t blame me that both articles are about Derek.  :-)  I just adore Derek’s dog – such a cutie pie.
