DWTS2012 Val Chmerkovskiy Just Thankful To Be Dancing This Season (New Interview)
Check out Dancing With The Stars pro Val Chmerkovskiy! Today he was a guest on Access Hollywood to tease us some more on the new season. They ask him who he wants for a partner. He didn’t want to speculate on it. He is just thankful to still be dancing on the show and be able to do his thing. When asked, he’d be happy to dance with Bristol if that’s who they pair him up with. Below is more…
Have I said…. I love Val! Like with Derek, I love his humbleness. I hope he gets a really good partner this season…and no, please not Bristol.

i really hope val gets a good partner so that he can make a run for the mirror ball because he is so awesome and cool i hope he gets pamela because they are soooooooooooo sexy or melissa because she is amazing
Vogue, Thanks for this fun interview with Val. I like the way he plays with the gals when they try to guess his partner. He’s quite clever and getting better at the media game.
Hope he breaks through this season so people will stop introducing him as “Val Maks’s-Younger-Brother”. He joked in another interview you posted that he feels it’s his name now, which is unfortunate. He’s an amazing dancer and shouldn’t be in anyone’s shadow.
Cidra, it’s been a while, but when I read his bio that’s how he describes himself. Maybe he needs to shake it and others will follow.
Unfortunately for Val, Cidra, is that he pulls from the same pool of fans that his brother does and is likely to suffer for it as long as both of them are on the show. Maybe not though, since I prefer Val to Maks, maybe he will start to grow his own fanbase.
Katarina, was it his DWTS bio? If so my guess is he didn’t have that much say. TPTB like the whole “little bro” vs. “big bro” thing. That said, this is his 3rd season on the show and it’s time to put his foot down and put a stop to it if he wants things to change.
PH, I agree with you. He doesn’t stand a chance with Maks taking up all the air in the ballroom. It would be nice if Maks would gracefully step aside, but I don’t see that happening. That means it’s Plan B: Val has to grow his own fanbase. It would help if TPTB gave him a moderately talented and likeable celeb partner. I think those are already “spoken for” this season. So it looks like another season in the shadows for him.
I’m going to put this here but not quite sure where to post this. Entertainment weekly has an page dedicated to all stars with their opinion on who has a great shot at winning and of the cast in general. (not too kind to melissa and pam anderson though)
Val is so nice. I like him. He’ll get more popular!
For some reason my connection refuses to play the interview
I’ll try again later… But Vogue, thank you so much for all these interviews you are posting!!
I like Val much more than Maks too!!! And I agree that they have to stop refering to him as Maks’ little brother! He had his own personality and he doesn’t have to be in his brother’s shadow!
As for partner…since I can’t watch the interview, I don’t know what he said about that but…Vogue, I believe that he will be the one who gets Bristol
Unfortunate, someone has to take her! I wish it will not be him but…
YW!
and I so hope Val won’t get Bristol.
Val is definitely growing on me more and more and more. I love his self deprecating humor, and of course his huge talent. I still think that Maks is ripe for a season off (take note Tony and Maks and Cheryl, look what it did for Derek, who came back stronger and more at ease … and, absence does make the heart grow fonder).
I do think Val will begin to grow his own fan base – he’s just too damn likeable and sweet and plays well with others – and will hopefully be able to flourish even in Maks’ shadow. Although Maks, really, you need a season to regroup and do something different, IMO of course.
Love this All-Star line up, btw. going to be a fun season with lots of terrific dancing, and lots of potential for cheese
yay, can’t wait.
You do know what happens when you have someone on the show that you’re bound and determined to HATE MORE THAN ANYTHING and then find they’re paired with a pro you admire for their talent and ability to pull talent that even the celebrity didn’t know what there? Somehow, the two form a bond, and along with dance ability, they show viewers a totally different, and people find them actually likeable…. Granted, she was on once already, and still doesn’t have a lot of popularity, but we could see a different side of Bristol, if teamed with Val, than we saw with Mark.
Who was I prepared to hate, and found that I ended up liking? Adam Carolla, Joanna Krupa, Lil Kim, Steve-O, Kelly Osbourne….. And so on…. All of them had pros that were great at pulling out the vulnerable from their partner.
Val may do the same with Bristol…
well spoken, Lori!
that is one of the more compelling aspects of this show for me …. how you can change your mind completely about a celeb you thought you knew enough about to dislike.
I still like Louis for Bristol, but it looks like he’ll get Sabrina if she’s voted back. So then I think chances are pretty good that Bristol will end up with Val or Tristan
I honestly don’t think Val could carry Bristol very far. The C Brothers seem to have good chemistry with strong, vibrant women which is not how I would describe Bristol. I like Val and the way he teaches and hope he will be around for a while. Now Tristan might be a different story. Although I really don’t want Tristan to get her.
Er, we already had a shot at liking Bristol and it was like that for a few weeks….until her entitled bitch attitude was revealed with Mark’s help. He was no prize that season either, as I recall.
Word, PH! Mark and Bristol’s worst selves connected and made them a seriously unlikeable pair.
Never say never, but I just can’t see myself liking Bristol even with Tristan.
Don’t forget….Shirley and Corky giving pep talks to Bristol in Mark’s trailor before weeks 6 & 7 (when she wanted to go home). SB convinced her she deserved to be there, the fans are voting for her, she’s not an experienced entertainer, blah blah blah. I remember Mark’s tweet and a mention in his weekly blog about “meetings” they had.
IMHO, I think Mark worked well with Bristol and they obviously got along with little drama shown behind the scenes (compared to others). But seriously, what is he suppose to do, Tear Down His Own Partner? He did his job, and God forbid if he wasn’t made Miserable by Bristol while he was doing it!!
I really think Bristol’s partner will be one of these 3: Derek, Tristan or Val. IMHO, I can’t see TPTB giving her to someone like Tony, who doesn’t really have a good fan base (4 as long as he’s been there), even though he does seem to get the worst partners MOST of the time. I think Mark and Derek has a similar teaching style and if TPTB want to be NICE to Bristol, they would give her Derek. Tristan really needs to get a pretty, young partner and I can see them giving him Bristol as well. Plus, he too is well liked and will balance out her Haters. And Val would be the choice if TPTB want to go for the Drama. How quickly will he lose his temper with her? Will he make her cry the first week? Do the judges hate Val as much as Maks? That sort of drama would come with a Val/Bristol pairing IMO.
Mark and Derek don’t have similar teaching styles AT ALL, Karen – which is why Derek has never gotten anyone younger than 30, whereas many of Marks have been much younger. Derek nice??? LOL – how long you been watching this show?? He’s a nice guy, for sure, but he can be a hard ass when it comes to teaching dance. Will they start this time around giving Derek someone younger? I don’t know. As for Tony not getting Bristol? I wouldn’t be so sure. Do they want or need her to stick around? They may not. Do they want Derek to stick around for a long time?? Who knows. He’s rather publicly said it’s his last season.
As for Tristan – he’s not paid his dues yet and neither has Val. Their time will come. Derek’s first three partners were in their mid-thirties and had no clue how to dance. It just so happens that number 3 was a natural. But number 1 had horrible stage fright and nerves and number 2?? Well, she was never a great dancer, but Derek made her look good.
I do not agree that the judges hate Maks – I think Maks’ fans think the judges hate Maks. The judges rightly pick on his partners and occasionally his choreo. They do that to all the pros. And Val is, IMO, a much different person than Maks is – they aren’t clones. I don’t see him having the flare ups that Maks does.
I didn’t really think Bristol brought out the worst in Mark…I actually thought he was really sweet to her and dealt with having her very professionally.
I thought he was by far his worst in the season with Chelsea Kane (which at the time I remember thinking, maybe he’s just so glad to have someone with talent after Bristol last season it’s getting to his head)and also with Melissa Joan Hart.
Violet, I just thought Mark got very defensive and more than a bit petulant when dancing with Bristol – not TO Bristol, but to anyone who picked on her. Part of that was the judges fault – they sold both Mark and Bristol a bill of good in the interest of keeping both of them around for a while by over inflating their scores. Then, when they started scoring them realistically, both of them got really snotty.
I do agree on Chelsea Kane though.
Both Mark and Derek APPEAR to adapt their teaching style to their student, where the DWM guys SEEM to believe their teaching approach is the RIGHT and ONLY Way. Mark and Derek also know how to make their partners look good by playing up their strengths. And yes Heidi, I still therefore do believe they teach the same, they were Both trained by Mark’s parents. Do you think Corky and Shirley treated them both the same? Just curious.
Bristol would definitely make Derek work for his money I think, but honestly I think he would be wonderful with her and who knows maybe even HIS FANS would learn to LIKE HER!! SHOCKING!!!!LMBO! Seriously though, I think if anyone can make Bristol look good and find any hidden talents she may have it is Derek!
Tristan is adorable and would also be great with Bristol, but I don’t believe he would push her like Derek or Val. He needs to have a pretty young partner and not all the old ladies. We really don’t know what he can come up with because he really hasn’t had someone with much to give at this point.
And Valentin I know is NOT Maksim, but I do believe he has a temper and I KNOW he is competetive. And last season with Sherri, who has a pretty good following, how do you explain why they left so early???? I seriously think TPTB wanted to push Maks’ buttons by getting rid of Val early. I also think that it worked to a certain extent because Maks’ heart really wasn’t into season 14 IMHO.
Having the same teacher doesn’t make them the same, as any adult would know. Just like Maks and Val aren’t the same just because they are brothers. They’ve been on DWTS for YEARS and have grown up. You named ONE quality that they MIGHT have in common – a very broad, general quality. That does not make them the same everywhere. I suppose since Derek and Damian are both blond, they must be totally alike, eh?? As for how they were treated by Corky and Shirley, I wouldn’t be so arrogant at to claim to know, but I would guess the answer would be no. Irrelevant.
All of Derek’s partners have made him work hard for his money – ESPECIALLY Nicole and Jennifer. As for Bristol – I will not be voting for her, regardless of who her partner is, and that includes Derek.
All the pros are very competitive – it’s ridiculous to think otherwise. That why they are PROS. Val left because Maks’ fans are smart enough to realize that if they split the votes they could lose Maks early instead of Val. It’s simple math. As for Sherri, you assume she has a good following, but what counts is her following relative to the other celebrities on a given season. She’s not dancing in a vacuum. Combine Val not having a fanbase separate of Maks’ and not having celebs with good followings and you get a relatively early exit. To think that Val left early was all about Maks is, again, ridiculous. They would have to rig the vote to make that happen and, as has been discussed here MANY times, they can’t legally do that. I know it’s hard to believe, but not everything is about Maks.
Really, Karen, you are not the expert coming in here and telling the rest of us how it is. I suggest that you dial it back several notches and recognize that.
How dare you talk to Heidi like that? I vote for your banning right now.
Thanks, Vogue, but I guess someone who thinks they know everything and brings up old myths that we debunked ages ago is entertaining to toy with for awhile.
Maybe when she’s been here long enough to get the “in jokes” and recognize that we’ve had all these discussions before she’ll be a little more tolerable. Here’s to hoping.
LOL!!!!
Did he get that way maybe in the media? That might be why I don’t remember it…I don’t normally pay a lot of attention to the after show interviews or anything. Or maybe I just forgot lol. I do remember him kissing her cheek like all the freaking time. I thought that was weird, so I could see how you say he was overprotective of her.
Yeah, I think it was more a media thing, than it was a show thing. Although, he was glaring at the judges and acting pouty toward the end of the season. But like I said, the wack ass judges seemed to feed that with their scoring. I think that was also a problem with Maks and Hope – the judges over score them for weeks in order to make sure they stick around over someone else, then score them realistically…the couples get whiplash. I kind of expect the pros to recognize that, but I imagine it’s harder when you’re right in the thick of it.
Oh, I definitely agree about Maks and Hope. I kept wondering when they were going to speak up about how much she sucked (at least, to my eyes she sucked. Really, REALLY bad).
