Hope Solo on Maks and DWTS – Opinion

I’m sure that many of you saw the excerpts from Hope’s book tweeted by @DWTSGossip yesterday. While it appears that we cover every single thing DWTS related, we actually don’t. We tend to stay far away from pure, unadulterated, unsubstantiated gossip, particularly when it involves private lives or people’s livelihoods. So, when Vogue read those pages, she asked me what to do about it. I took it to the group and we here are PureDWTS had a bit of discussion on just what to do about it.

The end result of that discussion was that we would give our *opinions* on what we read, but we would not be re-posting those pages for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is the potential for copyright infringement. If you must read them, by all means, go buy the book. We do have limits on just what we will post, but as this book speaks directly to DWTS production we figured we would at least comment on it. I’m up first. And I don’t quite know where to start. Except that I would remind everyone to remember that this is HOPE’S point of view and Maks has not been given the opportunity to respond OR defend himself. He has responded, somewhat, on Twitter and as you might imagine he is not happy at all, and he does give the impression that this is all lies by an “opportunist”. (See Notes at bottom.)

I am not a Maks fan, but I don’t think he’s a horrible human being or any such thing. He’s flawed, like most people are. I think that we have to assume that much of what Hope said about their interaction is true…to a point. After all, we saw some of it on camera. And she does say that they had plenty of good times that, of course, weren’t shown. I have to say, though, that Maks knows that by now and should have warned Hope accordingly. Instead he plays into productions hands time and again and then whines about it. On top of that, most everyone who is a regular at this site knows that I was appalled by his behavior that was shown at the time. Nothing makes that right. And if he actually hit her like she claims?? There is no excuse for that. But I would be lying if there wasn’t a large part of me that really wondered about the veracity of a lot of her comments. How much is inflated to sell her book…and get us talking just like we are?

Part of the reason I wonder such things is that some of her claims are so outlandish. As we have discussed many times on this site, the show can’t be rigged the way she says that Maks told her…that he had been told that there was a “secret memo” that said who was to be eliminated each week, and that they were going home so he was just causing drama to get ratings and get them to stick around longer. That may have been the end result…but it’s not determined in advance. There are rules in reality TV, believe it or not. Then all her claims that they were dancing a dance that was so much better and so much harder than everyone else’s, that no one else could do it. Um, really? I don’t remember that dance at all. If Maks was actually telling her that, he’s either delusional, or trying to build her confidence – and based on the whole section about where it looked like she was saying “F*^k you” to the judges I would have to say the latter. I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

Maks Chmerkovskiy Interviewed On Kirstie Alley And Dancing With The Stars On Good Day NY

What a fun interview with Maks Chmerkovskiy on Good Day NY today. They ask him all about why he and Kirstie Alley are dancing again together. He’s a hoot when mentioning her as he was when they were paired together the first time. He also teaches the Good day LA crew how to dance. Check out his hair and new look. He’s handsome as ever, though I admit, I like it when Maks is a little less clean shaven! You can watch the interview in two parts below:

Part 1 :: Part 2

Drew Lachey Chats On Who Will Be His Direct Rival On Dancing With The Stars And More

Drew Lachey tells People that everyone on Dancing With The Stars this season is competitive and having a lot of fun so far. He also is predicting Joey Fatone will be a “direct rival”. Below is more including his thoughts on new partner Anna Trebunskaya as well.

“I think there’s a bit of a competitive streak between Joey Fatone and myself,” Lachey says, jokingly. “We’re good friends and we go back a long way. But the smack-talk is already starting with the boy band competition thing.”

Other notable threats, he says, are Shawn Johnson, who is “very athletic and very strong,” and Gilles Marini, who he believes is the face of the Argentine tango.

Lachey, who calls the whole DWTS experience “almost like a political campaign,” doesn’t have any tactic to winning except being a “what you see is what you get” kind of guy.

“If they like me on the dance floor and they like who I am, then please vote for me,” he says. “If there’s someone else they relate to more, then they’re going to vote for them. In season 2, we didn’t have Facebook. We didn’t have Twitter. It was just more of how your dancing was, and how people connected to you as a performer and as a contestant on the show. So I’m going into it with the same kind of mentality.”

Partnered with Anna Trebunskaya this time around, as opposed to his mirror ball trophy-winning mate Cheryl Burke, Lachey says, “I think it’s going to be a whole lot of fun because I get a whole new bag of tricks, basically. For people who have the same partner, they’re going to use the same techniques and do the same style and teaching method.”

DWTS15 Gilles Marini Plans To Dance “To The Death” Regardless Of Injuries

E Online is reporting Gilles Marini has suffered an injury already during some dance training preparing for Dancing With The Stars. He thinks it’s his MCL, but, that’s not going to stop anymore than the injuries he received the first time he danced on Dancing With The Stars.

“I got tendinitis here and there and I fractured my shoulder the first. I did it all and I’m going to do it again…I’ll do it to the death.”

Marini, 36, admits he was a bit surprised he wasn’t paired with his original partner, Cheryl Burke. Instead, he’ll be dancing with Peta Murgatroyd, 26.

“I just met her yesterday and I got over it,” he said. “I’m concentrating on who I’m going to dance with and she’s a genius dancer and sweet.”

They haven’t started working together yet, but Marini has started his training. “I hurt something already,” he said, rubbing the back of his left knee. “I think it’s the MCL. But who cares! I will still dance.”

More at E Online. He’s a tough one. Go for it Gilles!! Thanks to Vin for this news.
