What a fun interview with Maks Chmerkovskiy on Good Day NY today. They ask him all about why he and Kirstie Alley are dancing again together. He’s a hoot when mentioning her as he was when they were paired together the first time. He also teaches the Good day LA crew how to dance. Check out his hair and new look. I think I lost the little shred of respect I had for her. Great athlete but I don’t believe her at all.

I just find it interesting that she chose NOW to come forward with these allegations – when she’s got a book to sell. I wouldn’t be so weary had she come forward earlier…but this just seems tacky and calculated. Had she revealed it immediately after season 13 wrapped, I might have believed her. But waiting 9 months and dropping the bomb in a book? Kinda slimey.
I think that if he really did that, the show would have just taken him off the show without asking her. Yes he was wrong for hitting her on the shoulder that season but I really don’t think he would intentionally slap a woman on the face when partnered with her on the show.
Breaking news (?) : Hope Solo is making the talk show rounds promoting her new book and claims that Maks Chmerkovskiy “manhandled” her during rehearsals, sometimes roughly putting her arms or shoulders in the correct dance position. She also claims that Maks slapped her during a rehearsal and that DWTS producers offered her a chance to change partners.
Solo has been a lightning-rod for controversy during her soccer career. Not that I would know, obviously, but I don’t get the sense that Maks would slap a partner during rehearsal for not learning a dance move.
I did find it odd when Solo won a Gold Medal w/ Team USA at the London Olympics just last week that not one member of the “Dancing w/ the Stars” family (including Maks) offered congratulations, via Twitter or otherwise. Winning a Gold Medal is kind of a big deal, and yet all the many pro dancers who tweet often– not to mention Tom Bergeron and Brooke Burke-Charvet who tweet constantly — offered congratulations. Who knows what drama there was behind the scenes ?
Oh, well. Hopefully we’ll have a fun, positive and scandal-free All-Star season 15.
And like Courtney said, this comes out when she just so happens to have a book out. just trying to sell books like bristol did with her book saying that people on the show weren’t happy she stuck around so long.

I agree Courtney. And continuing to follow Maks on Twitter up until the last time I checked which was last night. They’ve had multiple suppers together since the show and she also tweeted that she had tickets for him to come to the Olympics, but I have heard that she says today that she was being sarcastic. Hello?? That’s not exactly stable.
I’m not saying that they weren’t volatile and physical, but I do think she’s exaggerating and I do think she totally blindsided Maks.
I have many Opinions on this story as well as many on Ms. Solo.
Courtney, I agree her approach is slimey, but that doesn’t make it false IMO.
I’m just not buying this either. The footage “mysteriously” disappeared? Right. I agree that if there had been a serious issue, Maks would have been removed from the show. And we all know that Hope did not enjoy her dancing experience. Sour grapes? Book to sell? I didn’t much care for her before, and now I really don’t.
Well, she may have to produce that smoking gun she claims she has.
I agree with Vin & Courtney. From excerpts & reviews I’ve seen on the book it appears she bashes many folks and continues her “I’m a victim” mentality. I find it sad since so many young girls look up to her a great goalie.
I’m with Courtney. I’m no Maks fan for sure, he has always come off as arrogant to me, and I loate arrogance. But I find this really hard to believe.
1) she is not a shy person. I think she would have demanded the new partner she was supposedly offered and to hell with Maks and his career
2) I doubt the camera person, producer, etc. would have stood by and let this happen. Not to mention that I’m sure people on the show hear things, and I can’t see any of the pros or the celebs from that season having anything to do with Maks if they heard about it
3) She also accused a coach of hers, I hear, who has pretty much called her a liar.
4) she’s trying to sell a book
5) Apparently from what I read on the net they’ve been friends since her stint on the show, she invited him to games and even the Olympics
It just all adds up to me that Hope is exaggerating at the least. I can’t see DWTS putting their necks on the line for any of the pros, no matter how popular they are.
But could she get away with lying about it?
We all know that Maks treats his partners like crap, but maybe she is exaggerating somewhat.
Doesn’t make it true either, Katarina. Have you actually read any of the excerpts??? She has peppered in so many off-the-wall claims about the inner workings of the show (claims that I know to be completely false, given the law as it applies to reality television) that it makes me doubt the veracity of the entire book.
And once again: if there really & truly was a deliberate slap, it would not have gone unanswered by TPTB. Regardless of how popular Maks may have been, the viewers they would have lost from firing him would have been far outweighed by the viewers they would have alienated by keeping him around after he knowingly assaulted his partner. PR nightmare – which is why I don’t think it actually happened.
From what I’ve heard, the book is quite negative about a lot of things. She accuses her ex-coach of many of the same things she’s accusing Maks of. And of course it’s everyone else and never her.
Yes, where there’s smoke there’s usually fire, but I question the intensity of this blaze. She likes to train hard and physical and I have no doubt she let Maks know this. She also, was very belittling of him and his chosen career. Not that it excuses any unwarranted physicality, but she’s really no angel either.
Just a note – we do have an opinion post going up soon where Heidi, Vogue, & myself discuss Hope’s claims in her book at-length. I might see if they’re ready to go ahead and post it…

Yeah Evaine, I noticed quite a lot of finger pointing in many chapters of that book – not just the ones pertaining to DWTS. Hope seems to have a serious ownership problem – everything bad that happens to her, she seems to have a scapegoat for. Saint Hope is completely innocent

The letter would be the deciding point to me. ABC is money first and Maks brings in money.
I don’t believe her at all. There is no way ABC would continue to employ Maks if he physically assaulted one of the contestants. Just wouldn’t happen – too much potential liability. Hope Solo is pathetic.
Don’t know how much of it is true but from the “video clips’” of DWTS, Maks was pretty rough with her -IMO He did a “lot” of cursing with her as well. I felt dang, he’s speaking to an Olmpic Gold medalsit that way. I said this when the show was airing. I’m not a fan of Hope but I did feel he was being forceful and disrespectful to her! If these statements are untrue then the “***” will hit the fan for Hope! Again, from the video footaage of them in rehearsals, these allegations don’t seem far from the truth to me.
Clearly, we won’t be seeing Hope Solo on any future DWTS All-Star seasons. The odds of that were zero even before Slap-gate.
Just wanted to say – She only said that Maks told her about it the memo. Maybe it was Maks’ way to justify to her his behavior.
As far as the cursing goes… yeah, Maks has a potty mouth, it’s well know. So do many of the others, but… Hope has a pretty professional potty mouth as well and she’s not afraid to use it. So… pot… kettle… black.
I hope she saved that letter (the one where they acknowledge his behavior). Anyway……when someone is in contract for a book deal….THEY ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO REVEAL DETAILS THAT WILL APPEAR. At least that’s what my aunt would tell clients in NY (she worked at a publishing house there years ago).
If it isn’t true, it is slander. I don’t think she or her “team” is that idiotic to slander him and encourage a lawsuit. IMHO.
Bristol wrote about dwts in her book after she seemed like it was all butterflies and gumdrops. Bristol only praised Mark, Shirley, Corky, Claire, Brooke, and Tony. She claims Mark even had spats (no pun intended—alright, maybe there is lol), with staffers over her/their treatment of her.
Kendra also commented about Louis in her book even after there were pics posted of them and her hubby out to eat at a restaurant…..
Wonder if Hope figured (going with the fact that her account of situations are accurate) no harm since he was there, knows it happened, and they got past it?

I think thats why Kirstie and Maks get along so well. She doesn’t take his crap and he doesn’t take hers!

We “know” something happened with Jaleel, yet he was kept on. Doesn’t matter if it’s a celeb or pro…TPTB pay them. Now perhaps nothing ever did happen with Jaleel, Kym, Mark. But the situation did create a buzz.

This is a bad situation and IMO not great press for DWTS or MAKS “at all”.
I think the only thing the show cares about are its ratings.

That is really not how Hollywood works. “Sweep it under the rug” is pretty much the mantra of Hollywood.
You can always pretty much predict the responses though, when it involves a popular celebrity. I shouldn’t even say just that. A lot of it has to do with jumping on women in general. Rihanna had people blaming her before the blood was even dry.
I would love to be shocked by these opinion pieces, but I’m guessing not.

DWTS – why would they show footage of him shoving her in the team paso doble practice, but leave out footage of him slapping her on another occasion? No logic in that. And seriously, go read some of the excerpts of Hope’s book before passing judgement on any of us – Hope does a pretty good job of making herself sound completely bitter and definitely out for blood, rather than a completely innocent victim. I have a feeling you aren’t very well-informed, in this instance.
I love Hope Solo the goalkeeper but Hope Solo as a person seems to play the victim too much for my liking.These two never should have been together they were way too much alike.I hope this doesnt hurt either of their careers.
I cannot stand Maks or Hope so I have no horse in this but as for the book release, she had no say on this. Her coach pushed it back after the Olympics. Also while I do hope Abc did something, we have seen time and time again, many institutions whether in sports or entertainment look the other way when abuse happens to protect the institution at times. Yes this is just a silly dance show, but if this is true, it is a money making silly dance show abc will want to protect. Though I agree she does have the woe is me on the the other stuff,but the description of the hit is so specific and different to be made up IMO.
I also think if true, Hope was in a lose/ lose situation if she did say something earlier. She would be called a drama queen, etc. she also said her lawyers already vetted everything. There are some things at times not always shared immediately but at times revealed through memoirs like Cheryl did with her abuse. It is their individual lives.
To be honest, this is not the first or last time we saw Maks being a bit rough. I am more disgusted by the online stuff in twitter defending it and excusing it. Even the footage we saw in the paso group rehearsal. I generally get annoyed with the blame the victim and blame the woman. No one had a problem assuming Jaleel hurt Kym despite no evidence but quick to defend Maks despite evidence of being a bit rough with Hope.
In the end, Maks needs a break. I have said that for seasons.
Just because she was specific you think it’s true? It’s not that hard to lie and say it in a detailed way.
Also, I don’t think you can compare Cheryl keeping her silence to Hope. Cheryl was a child and went through horrible trauma. Hope is an adult, and a slap in the stomach isn’t that traumatic.
Maks vs Hope … who to believe? I suspect – as in most cases – the truth lies somewhere in the middle, and we’ll never know for sure exactly what did or didn’t happen.

No, that detail alone does not make me believe her story. And I disagree. I am inclined to believe her more than Maks given what i have seen of him. Abuse, even physical abuse faced by an adult is traumatic even if the alleged victim was a bratty, athlete. Just because I do not like Hope does not make it okay to call her the liar especially how she describes that document. It is something that her lawyers would have vetted, those details. Otherwise, she could have left it more as her own interpretation of how she remembered her rehearsals.
Whether Hope is embellishing or not, what I find unacceptable is Maks behavior with past partners. That needs to stop. His berating Melissa was not acceptable and did not make for good tv either. If anything from all this, I would hope Maks would learn to calm down!
I never said physical abuse wasn’t traumatic. I said that a slap to the stomach isn’t traumatic.
People aren’t calling her a liar because they don’t like her. People are calling her a liar because of the timing.
I agree with Miss Court (#6)… the timing seems off. Assuming the excerpts I read were true (which I don’t know), Hope mishandled the whole thing, IMO. IF he slapped her, it was most likely more about getting her head in position, and he just over-did it. IF. And IF it happened, and TPTB really did talk to her about it, I would have said “Yes, get me another partner. AND, play the freaking tape so that everyone knows why you got me a new partner.” But she didn’t do that….
Sheery (#29) has a point. IF Hope has a letter from BBC Worldwide, then why not scan it, and post it? And if she can’t back the claims up, then I think Maks has got a really good lawsuit for slander.
One more thing – I don’t think this will make any real difference in votes for Kirstie/Maks. I think the people that love Maks are going to brush it off as fiction; and the people that didn’t like Maks to begin with still won’t. I’m just sorry to see this much DWTS drama come screeching out even before the 1st practice.

@sally Slander is difficult to prove in court. Particularly given his past behavior on the show and against a public figure like Maks who has been on tv for years. I am sure Hope’s lawyers and the books publisher already went through legal to avoid such a suit.
I question the timing at first too until i heard her coach pushed back the release date. But tbh, for an allegation like this, timing was never in Hope’s favor IMO. If she said it after dwts or during, think people would have said she was being a drama queen. That part in her book, I agreed with and saw where she was coming from. This book was suppose to sell before the Olympics but her coach pushed the release date.
@Melissa – I’m not a lawyer, and I don’t play one on TV, so I’ll take your word about how hard it would be to prove slander…
But I still say that IF it was true, Hope should have taken them up on the new partner, and DEMANDED that they show the tape – that would have kept everyone from claiming she was just being a diva. If the situation is that bad, why stay with it? Why didn’t she either get a new partner, or just say “Forget it, I quit”?
