DWTS2012 Sharna Burgess Volunteers To Help Skid Row Kids Have A Fun Day

Many of our pros have the biggest hearts and such is true for Dancing With The Stars troupe member Sharna Burgess. This past weekend, she helped the Los Angeles Mission get poverty stricken kids ready for school by giving them backpacks and shoes. They also just had ‘a day of fun’. Below is a quote from Herb Smith, the President of the Los Angeles Mission.

“Education is a way out of poverty, and for kids, a way to prevent homelessness,”
said Herb Smith, president of the Los Angeles Mission. “We design the End of
Summer Block Party at the Los Angeles Mission as a place to have fun, but the
real reason for the event is to encourage and equip children for successful
educational experiences.”

That’s the reasoning behind the distribution of backpacks full of school supplies.
“Any family in such extreme poverty as we see here on Skid Row probably
doesn’t have the money to buy the school supplies required for classes,” said
Smith. “Our volunteers and donors help a bit to ease that burden.”

You can see loads of pictures and read on their mission and the weekend here. There are some fantastic shots at this Flickr page as well. Look at those kids faces!! So precious!!
