In a new interview with In Touch Magazine, Louis Van Amstel talks of why his new partner, Sabrina Bryan, deserves revenge on Dancing With The Stars. He also says this is the first season he will be able to knock himself out as a dancer and more. Details below and at the link.
“Kyle and Carson both went as far as they could go during their seasons — Carson might’ve even gotten an extra week because he was so funny,” Louis tells In Touch. “But Sabrina was voted off after getting three 10s and everybody assumed she was safe, but she wasn’t. I really think that she deserves a chance for revenge!”
Of course, It doesn’t hurt that Sabrina, who was partnered with Mark Ballas on season five, gives Louis his most gifted partner on the dance floor yet for season 15.
“This is the first season I can knock myself out as a dancer, as a choreographer because she’s so good,” says Louis, who last appeared on the show on season 12, when he was partnered with Kendra Wilkinson. “From day one, we are going to knock even our own socks off.”
Also, did any of you get to see Louis on Showbiz Tonight last night? There might be a video posted later of the full interview at CNN. For now, below is a teaser with him talking about Sabrina….
On The Red Carpet has posted more videos of the couples dancing in their Title Shoots. Yesterday in a previous posting we saw Kym & Joey, Anna & Drew, Helio & Chelsie, Gilles and Peta, Val & Kelly, Derek & Shawn at Pure Derek Hough, and Pam & Tristan. Today we get to see Apolo (sorry, no Karina), Bristol & Mark, Emmitt & Cheryl, and Tony & Melissa. Looking good. What do you think?
Kym Johnson was in a guest segment on Australia’s The Morning Show yesterday. They review her Dancing With The Stars career and then they chat with her about the new All Star season. She says the pressure is going to be incredible this season, but, she’s excited to be partnered with Joey Fatone and they are going to have a lot of fun. Lots more below. Check out her shorter hairstyle. What do you think? I like it.
After a brief hiatus to accomodate all of the hoopla of the revealing of the 13th couple, I’m back with another edition of my series examining the highs and lows of our all-stars’ original seasons. As always, if you’re playing catch-up, check out the previous editions with Kelly Monaco, Emmitt Smith, Drew Lachey, Joey Fatone, & Apolo Ohno :-) Today I take on season 5 winner, Helio Castroneves.
I picked his Mask-inspired quickstep as Helio’s best dance:
And for his worst dance, I chose he & Julianne’s bizarrely chilly rumba:
First, I feel like I have to get this off of my chest: I do not think Helio was the best dancer on his season, and I actually think he was one of the weaker champions we’ve had, in terms of dance skill. The one big advantage he had, though, was personality – in BUCKETLOADS. :-D I think that’s ultimately what won him the MBT over Mel B. – while she herself was a big personality, I feel as though he managed to endear himself to viewers a bit more, and generated a stronger chemistry with Julianne than Mel maybe had with Maks. I think his quickstep is a perfect example of how his chemistry with Julianne & his personality carried him through to the end – he was just so FUN. Plus, he seemed to really excel at the ballroom dances, which seems to be an area in which even the best male contestants seem to falter. However, when you take a closer look at his quickstep, you’ll see that he sometimes tends to get so carried away with the character of the dance, that he loses a bit of the technique – a problem similar to Joey’s. And judging from he & Julianne’s rumba, in which he couldn’t really play a character, his weaker technique seemed to stick out like a sore thumb…and his chemistry with Julianne also suffered. To date, I still think it’s one of the strangest, least romantic rumbas we’ve ever seen on the show…and as I recall, the judges seemed kind of horrified by it. I think he & Chelsie are REALLY going to have to work on their chemistry, first and foremost, if they want to stick around – and if they can forge a good chemistry, then I think it’s on Chelsie to strike a balance between making Helio focus on technique, and still giving him the opportunity to be a showman. I do think they’re going to have to make a big splash, though, and they’re going to have to do it soon – because they’re kind of becoming this season’s “forgotten” couple for me: the couple that I always struggle to remember when I’m listing off all of the couples this season, because they haven’t yet made a huge impression on me.
Court’s verdict: I think Helio’s success this season is seriously going to hinge upon whether he’s able to really connect with Chelsie – and if she’s going to be able to choreograph to suit both his technical weaknesses and his strengths as a showman.
What’s your take on Helio? Is he going to struggle this season…or will he & Chelsie surprise us all?
This season, we opted to do things a bit differently – as we have with just about every other regular feature we do each season, since the format is a bit wacky, to say the least :-P First, we’ve divided WWIB into two parts – mainly to accomodate the fact that Kirstie & Maks’ and the 13th couple’s (who we now know to be Sabrina & Louis) promo photos have yet to be released, but also to buy us some time for the labor-intensive task of finding good pictures for some of these :-) Secondly, we’ve included the couples’ promo photos from their original seasons for comparison as well. But as always, we’ve offered up our usual snark commentary on each of the costumes, for your enjoyment 8-)
Battle of the turquoise & black lace corset dress/Kelly & Alec vs. Kelly & Val: Kelly & Alec’s season 1 promo pic vs. Kelly & Val’s season 15 promo pic vs. Edyta in the season 9 pro tango demo
Courtney: The Iceman cometh! Wow, even Alec’s promo pic screams “I have no emotions” to me. And while Kelly is a bit better, I still wish she’d actually smile in her promo pics – the whole “smoldery non-smile” she does just seems like she’s trying too hard to me. And I’m probably the only one that feels this way, judging from some of everyone’s initial comments on the promo photos, but I’m not really all that wild about Kelly & Val’s pic…you’ll see I’m not much of a fan of the couples that went the “smoldery” route with their promo pix. As for the costume itself – gotta go with Edyta on this one. Granted, it’s hard to hold a candle to Edyta in pretty much ANY costume, but I think I like it better with a lace skirt, as opposed to a fringed one. And while I was cursing under my breath while putting this edition together about how BAD some of the costumes have gotten since Randall left, I thank my lucky stars we’re not still stuck with Designs to Shine, who costumed the first season. Can we say “tacky”? 8-O
Heidi: Val sez, “You…are sooo sexy.” To which Kelly sez, “You are sexy, but I am sleeping with my cousin’s best friend’s husband’s brother and am simply toying with you as a cover to hide our true looove….” That is my long winded way of saying, Kelly is a soap actress…they only do smolder. Sometimes well, sometimes not – and Val is a huge step up from Alec in terms of emotion and Kelly has evolved to smoldering with her mouth *closed*. :-) The dress you ask? I go with Edyta sans fishnets. Although I think it’s cuter in the shorter length.
The verdict: Just say no to soap opera smolder. Read more..
Many of our pros have the biggest hearts and such is true for Dancing With The Stars troupe member Sharna Burgess. This past weekend, she helped the Los Angeles Mission get poverty stricken kids ready for school by giving them backpacks and shoes. They also just had ‘a day of fun’. Below is a quote from Herb Smith, the President of the Los Angeles Mission.
“Education is a way out of poverty, and for kids, a way to prevent homelessness,”
said Herb Smith, president of the Los Angeles Mission. “We design the End of
Summer Block Party at the Los Angeles Mission as a place to have fun, but the
real reason for the event is to encourage and equip children for successful
That’s the reasoning behind the distribution of backpacks full of school supplies.
“Any family in such extreme poverty as we see here on Skid Row probably
doesn’t have the money to buy the school supplies required for classes,” said
Smith. “Our volunteers and donors help a bit to ease that burden.”
You can see loads of pictures and read on their mission and the weekend here. There are some fantastic shots at this Flickr page as well. Look at those kids faces!! So precious!!
Thanks to Access Hollywood today, here are some interviews that took place during the Dancing With The Stars All Star Title shoots a couple of weeks ago. These are great. If they post more, we’ll be sure to add them. Also, before you watch the interviews below, be sure you see THIS ABC TITLE SHOOT PROMO TOO!! A MUST!!! Ok, onto the Access Hollywood interviews. If for some reason the videos don’t work, you can see them at Access Hollywood.
First, Mark and Bristol talk of the trainwrecks they had the first time they danced. Mark is excited for how great Bristol looks this time. He says they will take it week by week and will look forward to each challenge. Bristol thinks that’s the best attitude to have going into it.
Here is Chelsie and Helio! Helio discusses the good shape he’s in since he’s been racing. Hopefully, this will give him an edge in the competition. Chelsie is confused about what kind of racer he is.
Being Melissa is a mother now, she has her priorities, but, she’s hoping to dance well. She wants to stay healthy and not break Tony’s nose again. Tony wants them to challenge themselves. They are the underdogs and he wants the fans and the judges behind them.
Pamela says she’s looking forward to being put into uncomfortable postitions again. 8O Tristan giggles. She can still do the splits. Tristan keeps giggling. They are excited to be dancing together.
You can see Pamela and Tristan dancing in this one (Thanks for the heads up JustMe)….
Thanks to DublinDown330 and MacManiacs.org, below is part 3 of their interview with Tristan MacManus. This time Tristan answers questions on choreography and wardrobe malfunctions and dances he’s never done before. He also answers questions on his Irish accent. Fun! Stay tuned for Part 4 to come soon!!
