Derek Hough Talks DWTS, Shawn Johnson and Photography
I think this was meant to be mainly a plug for Derek’s involvement in a Nikon campaign,
Derek recently teamed up with Nikon to be part of the company’s “Small Moments Are Huge” Facebook campaign, and has been using his Nikon 1 camera to capture daily life at home and on the job. See his photos on Facebook HERE.
But of course ET Online got him talking about DWTS and Shawn. Sooooo….brother/sister but he wants to get some “tension” involved. 🙂 Since he follows with the fact that she’s grown up and 20 years old, I think he’s talking sexual tension. Walk a fine line, Derek, walk a fine line. 🙂
Those blue eyes!! Amazing.
YouTube Version…
Excited to see him and Shawn dance. Also intrigued by his comment about creating tension between them. She has matured and I’m sure Derek will choreograph some stunning performances for her! Hope they knock their Foxtrot out the box.
I hope Nikon puts him in a commercial for their camera. He takes stunning pictures and is a great artist too.. I can see it now, a little photo taking some dance moves. Would be a fun commercial. Plus we’d get to see those beautiful blue eyes of his..
I keep thinking we may see Jules stopping by a practice to assist Shawn with some of those “tension” moves. They will have to have it with certain dances especially this season and Derek knows it. If Derek can do a sexy dance moves with Julianne then it will likely make Shawn more comfortable with expressing those emotions in a dance.
Wow, those blue eyes! They are like the sea.
LOL to everyone finishing their first routines n two days and his reaction. Wow, the pressure is on.
Fascinating about this camera too. I want one.
Shawn doesnt need 50 Shades kind of tension, but more like “Baby/Johnny” tension. Young woman learning about love, slightly older experienced guy. I think with right kind of music choices, the audience could deal with that. Prob/hopefully, what Derek has in mind.
Maybe Jenn Grey would like to direct a little and give SJ a little insight on how she felt back then.
Derek would be such a PERFECT spokesman for Nikon comm. Maybe different little stories in a variety of locations. He’s artisitc, knowledge of lighting, staging and he is gorgeous.
Derek’s creative eye is a perfect complement for Nikon, totally believable. I like that he’s not a sellout like some of his colleagues.
He could certainly be making a fortune off of endorsements, but it seems he’s not really interested in that, that’s for sure.
PH, my guess is Derek isn’t interested because he has too much integrity. I just can’t see him hawking anything and everything just to make a buck; and there’s a lot of schlock out there.
In what little bits we’ve seen so far, Derek’s treated Shawn like a kid sister. So I was dellighted to hear him say he wants to make sure there’s “tension” in the right places in their partnership. I’m confident he’ll keep it appropriate. I just hope Shawn is able to pull it off.
Intersting how D wants to see that tension with Shawn on the dance floor. Very excited to see them dance. He had beautiful blue eyes by the way.
I don’t see how endorsing a product makes someone not have integrity unless they’re endorsing something immoral, say like blood diamonds or something. Athletes endorse products. And some of these dancers are great dancers but may not have as much to fall back on when they age out here. I like Derek a lot and agree he is multi talented and may not need or choose to do endorsements but to me, it doesn’t make people who choose differently a bad person, imo.
It depends on the endorsements, and if you’ll endorse anything just for the cash versus only endorsing things you actually use A LOT. Athletes tend to endorse things they actually use a lot. I don’t care much, one way or the other, but I always have to laugh at Cheryl fans who claim she’s most successful because of all her endorsement deals. Um, hello?? Many of them could do that if they actually wanted to.
Thanks, PH, that’s what I was getting at. Derek isn’t going to agree to endorse just any old thing. If he chooses to do an endorsement deal it’s going to be for something like this camera that he’s knowledgeable about since he’s an avid photographer. Seems to me if you endorse everything from hair gel to athlete’s foot cream and all points in between, you’re kinda diluting the value of your endorsement. At least that’s the way I look at it; but I’m an advertiser’s nightmare.
I think he’d be a great spokesperson for Nikon. He loves taking photos and has a great artistic eye for it.-IMO~ Plus I know he’d come up with a really cool commercial. I think this is the perfect fit for him. Hopefully it will be one of his endorsements in the near future.
I can see your points. I just had a reaction to implying other (maybe I even read too much into it as most or all others) don’t have integrity, only Derek. And I don’t think Kym promoting hair extensions makes her not have integrity. Now I’m guessing that’s not what you meant and perhaps had a specific pro or 2 in mind. Even so, I don’t see it as a too big of offense unless what they’re promoting is truly offensive. Just different decisions that may not work out to their best interest in the long haul. And maybe annoying. And of course my opinion is *not* the only right opinion.
Not to beat a dead horse but rather to close the loop. I wasn’t thinking about any of the other pros on DWTS. I was speaking more generally of celebs who grab at endorsement deals like a kid grabs candy. Some pro athletes come to mind and (showing my age here) but I seem to remember Bruce Jenner’s face was on everything back in the day. Of course, whether that’s lack of integrity or being savvy about how fleeting your fame might be and just making the most of the opportunities presented to you is definitely subjective.
I always struggle with what you just articulated Cidra, that beating a dead horse vs. closing the loop. I like how you expressed that.
Along the same lines, I worry if adding a “me too” or “thanks from me too” or “oh, now I see what you mean”… is it offensive to not add it after someone, especially a moderator has given me further comment, or is it annoying and clogging up the comment section? In those cases I try to avoid adding extra but worry I’m being rude.
Derek’s looking great, and I can’t wait to see them dance together. I think they’ll be terrific. I definitely want to see them move beyond brother/sister type dances, and I’m glad to hear Derek seems to be on board. I think Shawn, with more maturity now, will be up for that as well. Looking forward to it!
