Mark Ballas has penned his first blog for Dancing With The Stars Season 15 at USA Today! He talks of how intense the competition is going to be and preparing Bristol for the show. He also dishes on what will be different with her this time including “sexier moves and costumes”. Three more days and counting, All! 🙂
Being partnered with Bristol again has been fun. It’s like we never missed a day and, like most good friendships, we picked right up where we left off. We spent most of our training time in Arizona and have been rehearsing this past week in L.A. around the rest of the cast. I thought it was important that we get adjusted and ready for competition, and being in the same environment with the other couples has definitely helped us prepare.
What I think will be different this time around with Bristol is that she’s coming out of her shell a lot more. She’s also been more welcoming to sexy moves and costumes. I’m really hoping people can see how far she’s come with letting her personality out and digging into the dances rather than tiptoeing around them. We have for sure been working really hard on rhythm, timing and attitude.
Our first dance is cha cha, and it’s going really well. We have had three weeks to get BP moving and comfortable, especially back in her dance heels, and I know it will translate come Monday night.

ABC Media Net has released official information detailing the shows next week for Monday and Tuesday night. Take note of the Pro number which will take place on the Results show to “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” ! The Troupe number will be fun too! I’m curious on the in-depth interviews as well. More below and at the link for what will take place. Picture above courtesy of Dancing With The Stars Facebook (click once and again at next page to enlarge).
From former champions to fan favorites, including a celebrity voted in by fans, the All-Star cast along with their professional partners return to the ballroom on the season premiere of “Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars,” MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 24 (8:00-10:01 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. All 13 couples will hit the stage performing either the Cha Cha or the Foxtrot to impress the judges and viewers at home, hoping they’re not the first couple sent home.
The live two-hour season premiere of “Dancing with the Stars the Results Show,” TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 25 (8:00-10:00 p.m., ET), will kick off with live interviews with Tom and the cast, offering an in-depth look at why each celeb has decided to return for another chance at winning the coveted mirror ball trophy. Global superstars Justin Bieber and Pitbull will hit the stage for unforgettable musical performances. Performing his second single, “As Long as You Love Me , ” from his latest album, “Believe ” Bieber returns to the ballroom for a knockout performance. Pitbull also joins the party with the primetime television debut of his new single, “Don’t Stop the Party,” from his upcoming album, “Global Warming,” out November 19th. Also during Tuesday night’s show, we will have a spectacular opening number featuring all the pro dancers of the season and The Troupe to a medley of “I Wanna Dance with Somebody/Dance Again,” choreographed by Jason Gilkison. The Troupe will return later that night to perform a number to “Go Get It ” which is also choreographed by Jason Gilkison. And before night’s end, the season’s first couple will be eliminated from the show.
Also, according to the Hollywood Reporter, the new Dancing With The Stars After Party, will be co-hosted by Joanna Krupa and Marc Istook. Kyle Massey will be reporting behind-the-scenes. Also, Elena Grinenko will be one of the guests and Lacey Schwimmer is to perform. Here are more details….
Season nine contestant Joanna Krupa will co-host After Party: Dancing With the Stars with Marc Istook, while season 11 runner-up Kyle Massey will give fans behind-the-scenes access.
After Party is a 20-25 minute live show that will launch on several online destinations, including the official show site on ABC, Facebook and the YouTube channel. The AT&T-sponsored series will feature expert panelists, celebrity audience members and dance performances by fan favorites. The co-hosts will be answering questions after each After Party episode.
The premiere episode of After Party will include former Dancing With the Stars pro Elena Grinenko and an acoustic performance by former competitor Lacey Schwimmer featuring the It Boys.
This is cool and I hope they have different performers every week.

Make way! Above is Derek’s new adopted baby Romeo crashing rehearsals for Dancing With The Stars. I just love this dog. I hope the show will do a special feature on him as it’s a great message about rescueing animals. What a star! I just love him.
Also, after you watch the video, be sure to visit Miss Heidi’s as she has tons on Derek and Shawn currently….new rehearsal videos (extended versions as well that she has recorded herself), new photos, and lots more. HOTNESS! 😀

Helio Castroneves and Chelsie Hightower tell Access Hollywood they are really excited to dance on Monday on Dancing With The Stars. They’ve been having a great time. Chelsie says Helio has confidence and has been working really hard. Helio also talks of how similar dancing is to racing. He loves the hard work ethic and hopes to do the best he can. Also, Helio mentions some of the contestants and what they’ve been like getting ready for the show. Interesting. Lots more below…

We’re mere days away from the premiere of the all-star season – who’s getting pumped??? 🙂 I find myself surprisingly excited about it, given that I was feeling pretty ho-hum about it only a few months back. Be sure to keep a close eye on Heidi’s “Who’s Dancing What” post – you never know when someone’s cha-cha song or dance order or phone number might pop up 😉 #justsayin
Anywho, if you’re feeling nostalgic, you can view all of the previous editions of this series here. Now buckle in, kids, because I’m about to tackle the ups and downs (but mainly just downs…) of the most polarizing contestant in DWTS history: Bristol Palin.
For Bristol’s best dance, I picked her tango:
As her worst dance, what else could I pick but that god-awful monkey suit jive?:
Ok, I will admit that Bristol is not the worst dancer we’ve ever seen on the show (I think’s a dubious honor reserved for Master P, with Kate Gosselin as the runner-up). On the contrary, I actually thought she was relatively good the first few weeks of the competition – I even threw a few votes her way in week 1. I think what ended up getting to me as the season wore on, though, was the fact that all the other contestants seemed to be improving by leaps & bounds…while Bristol just seemed to barely muddle through some of the dances, and hit a bit of a plateau in terms of improvement. To add insult to injury, we were losing MUCH better dancers each week that Bristol remained – and by the time the finale rolled around, Bristol seemed to have developed a sense of entitlement, and copped an attitude when she wasn’t getting the 9’s and 10’s she felt she deserved. In the end, she just left a bad taste in my mouth, even if some of her dancing really wasn’t all that bad. SOME. 🙂 In rewatching a lot of Bristol’s dances, I noticed that she tended to do MUCH better when she was able to stay in-hold for the bulk of it – so most of the ballroom dances she did went quite a bit more smoothly than the Latin ones. I don’t know if Mark holding onto her and leading her so directly helped improve her confidence or what, but she moved a lot more cleanly & clearly in dances like the tango – no missed steps, she stayed on time, and had pretty good posture. And I blame Mark for the silly air guitar break in the middle 😛
On the other hand, in dances where she had to separate from Mark and do some of the dance on her own, she either barely muddled through or seemed to fall apart completely – case in point? The dreaded monkey suit jive. Right off the bat, she seemed to blank on a good 10-15 seconds of side-by-side jive choreo. Then, once the suit came off (and even that was pretty rough), she never seemed to get 100% into the groove of the dance, and always seemed like she was 1 step behind or ahead of Mark. And although we kind of expected it, based on her complete lack of experience in performing, Bristol wasn’t exactly the best at connecting with the character of a dance – and when she didn’t know what to do, she seemed to resort to an expression that reminded her of back home in Alaska: deer in the rifle sights 😉 Maybe this time around, she’ll be a bit more comfortable and will be able to let loose and have fun. Or not…who knows. I’m still of the opinion that she likely won’t last past the midpoint of the competition, this time around – she’s up against much better dancers with much bigger fanbases, and I daresay she’s lost a bit of that “single teen mom” appeal she had 2 years ago. Will be interesting to see what Mark is able to conjure up…
Court’s verdict: Probably the weakest all-around performer/dancer this season, and Mark needs to work on getting her performance value up to snuff…as well as making sure she knows her choreography and is confident enough to not forget it. She should probably also work on her media presence – she needs to be as likeable as possible if she wants to stand a chance against some of the more popular contestants.
Ultrasound sales specialist by day, semi-knowledgeable DWTS fan by night...with a smattering of hair & makeup enthusiast, occasional model, baker, and crazy cat lady peppered in to make things REALLY interesting ;-) I might pee my pants in happiness if Donnie Wahlberg ever does DWTS - or if they ever use "Sunglasses at Night" as a paso doble.
Pictured above is Carrie Anne Inaba. Last night, the Dancing With The Stars judge graced the Red Carpet at Los Angeles’ Confidential Magazine’s Annual Pre-Emmy Kick-Off Celebration at London West Hollywood in Hollywood, California. You can see more fun pictures of her at Zimbio Pictures. Also, Celebuzz caught up with her at the event. They talked about dating and Dancing With The Stars. She hopes they contestants are ready for tougher judging! She’s also looking forward to the all stars stepping it up another level. More below…
Host Tom Bergeron talked about the judging on Dancing With The Stars this season and more at KTLA as well. He’s so funny as always! Let’s hope he wins an Emmy on Sunday!
Speaking of the Emmy’s, GMA also showed Brooke Burke choosing a gown on GMA today!! You can watch it here.

Karina Smirnoff and Apolo Ohno were on Good Morning America today. You can watch them talk all things Dancing With The Stars All Stars HERE (due to a script issue, I took the video below out).
Stay tuned to this spot! The two are also going to be on The Wendy Williams Show today. We’ll post that coverage as soon as it’s made available.
ADDING:TV Guide has just released a scouting report by Karina and Apolo on their co-stars. This is fun. Below is a little take….
Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas
Probably the most controversial cast member, Palin finished third on Season 11 with Ballas.
Ohno says: She’s totally different now. I think it’ll surprise people.
Smirnoff says: No matter what people say — like maybe Bristol wasn’t the best dancer, but she was the most improved dancer of that season. So on this show, there’s the likability factor, the skill, but also the journey. Who has the biggest journey, the biggest arc of learning how to dance? I think Bristol had it. I’m excited to see what she does now. She had some memorable dances — the monkey dance. Some people can pull that off.
Drew Lachey and Anna Trebunskaya
The 98 Degrees singer won Season 2 with Burke, and Trebunskaya has been runner-up twice, including to Lachey.
Ohno says: Drew’s gonna do well. He’s hungry, I can tell, and I love it. I love the competitiveness. I’m looking forward to seeing what he’s got. He didn’t do as much [dancing in 98 Degrees], but he’s won this.
Smirnoff says: Anna’s a fantastic teacher, so Drew’s in great hands. Drew had one of the most memorable freestyles on the show. If we take Drew out before the final in the back alley of CBS [Studios, where the show films], that might help us.
Shawn Johnson and Derek Hough
Johnson won Season 8 with Ballas, and Hough is a three-time champ.
Ohno says: The only other people who have experienced this intense type of competition with this kind of training are Shawn and Emmitt. … I love Shawn. She dances incredibly. She’s kind of like Joey. She learns dances really fast.
Smirnoff says: She does. Why don’t you learn them really fast?
Ohno says: I don’t know. I’m just pounding the fish.

Maks Chmerkovskiy tells the New York Post post that he has no plans of coming back to Dancing With The Stars after his contract expires at the end of next year. He says he plans to pursue acting and possibly a reality show with his brother, Val. He has also secured the lead in a major studio movie, which begins filming in January. Maks also talks of Kirstie Alley and how he is not a one sided personality. More below and at the link!
We may have had a couple of weeks last time that we cruised on popularity or fan appeal or whatever,” he says.
“But I am not really sure that is going to work for us this time. I am not sure people are going to vote for us just because it is us.”
Since joining the show in Season 2, Maks — who owns four dance studios in the NYC area — has become one of “Dancing’s” most polarizing personalities.
He famously fired an f-bomb backstage at judge Carrie Ann Inaba in 2011 and once suggested acid-tongued judge Len Goodman should retire.
In a recently published book, former partner Hope Solo even accused him of slapping her during rehearsals — which he has been instructed not to discuss.
“But I am not doing that ‘Maks thing’ anymore,” he says. “I don’t think I need to, and I don’t want to. It did what it did for me, but I want people to know that I am not a one-sided personality. I am a lot of fun to watch, even without constant drama.”
Sad! I hate to hear the long time pros talking of retiring, but, as Heidi and Court have warned us so many times in the past, it’s going to happen. It’s something we have to accept, but, it’s still so hard. 🙁 So, what movie do you think Maks is talking about?
ADDING: Tony and Melissa were on Access Hollywood today. Below is their reaction to the news of Maks is retiring….
