Tom Bergeron Comments On DWTS All Star Front Runner And Maks Chmerkovskiy
At the Emmy’s last night, Dancing With The Stars host Tom Bergeron made some comments about Maks Chmerkovskiy and if he was leaving the show. Tom was also asked on who he thought the front runner would be on Dancing With The Stars this season. I love what Tom said on both subjects. Always the class act. Details below….
“I talked to him yesterday,” Bergeron said of Chmerkovskiy. “He said it was taken out of context… it was end of his contract. I would fully understand that, but he’s going to be with us beyond this season.”
Chmerkovskiy is on contract through 2013, and Bergeron says that means there will be at least two more seasons of him on the show.
As for his pick for the frontrunner of the All-Stars season, which has six previous winners coming back to the ballroom, Bergeron was tight-lipped.
“If I answer, I’ll piss off 12 people,” he said.

Well, yeah, I thought that Maks was leaving cause he wants to move on. We all agree on that I think. First off, CONGRATULATIONS TO TOM!!!
All this Maks leaving crap seems like a ploy to get people to vote for Maks and Kirstie, I truly feel that Maks thinks he can WIN this thing with her. Sure his contract may be up THEN, no biggie, all the pros have contracts issues of their own, but the announcement timing is suspect to me.
Maks always wants media focused on him before the show airs…Just like the “Will He, or Won’t He” be on the show…

Well unless Kirstie’s dancing has improved tremendously, I think Maks is in for a big disappointment if he thinks they can win.
why do all the pros act like they don’t know if they will be back next season? you ask them and its like “oh, i haven’t gotten the call…not sure if I will be back” when in reality they sign contracts and will be on for a period of time…Maks blew that secret wide open!

I believe Louis has been on contract even though he hasn’t been on (until now) a couple of seasons. They still have to be asked by the producers to work with a celeb.
Just because they’re under contract doesn’t mean they’ll be used every single season. Winter has it right. Louis is under contract, just like the rest of them, but because of his height, he’s only used when they have female celebrities who can dance with him and not look awkward or weird.
At this point I find the reaction to what Maks said hilarious. It was explicitly stated in the interview that that he wanted to move on to other priorities once “his contract was up at the end of next year”. Those exact words were printed. He had a lot of fans asking him how long he was going to on the show & about his movie project that he had been talking about for a while. He has been talking for months about moving on & why, but I guess people haven’t been paying attention.
Looks to me like people/the media simply read the title and ran with it, and when the problem is their complete lack of reading comprehension.
And Congrats to Tom on finally winning. He’s one of the best hosts on TV without a doubt. And I’m glad he was recognized.
It’s a ploy for more votes and Maks standard excuse AFTER he gets a bunch of headlines and buzz…”Oh, I was taken out of context or I was mis-understood” He’s like the spoiled kid who can’t stand it if he isn’t getting all the attention. If he’s not, he will find a way!!
Well Maks knows that he has 3 seasons left…and he specifically stated that it will be until the end of next year- that is pretty straight forward. Before the Alstar season was announced he was saying he didn’t know and they were waiting to find out and blah blah when he knew all along he was going to be there. If Louis is under contract he must not have the same guidelines as some of the other pros…seems like he hasn’t danced in awhile.
Super congrats to Tom. I was really excited when his name was announced last night. Well deserved!
About Maks…I think after all these years you either translate what he means to say or else take it at face value for the way it sounds at the moment. Wow, does that even make sense? LOL

No, actually he didn’t Kristin. They sign contracts but the show has the option not to use them if they don’t need them. Louis’ has had a contract. So has Lacey. The pros really don’t know if they’ll be back the next season until a couple weeks before.
To quote Tom i think it is safe to say Maks is dancing in the spring and fall of 2013, ie Maks contract is through 2013 meaning it ends then:

FYI, I almost fell out of my chair after reading that “glitter on the comments” comment.
And you’re still incorrect, Kristin. You made it sound like he blew something wide open – that was actually what you said. I said, no, he didn’t because they’ve all always had contracts but that doesn’t guarantee they’ll be on the show and used Louis and Lacey to make the point. Tom (who, by the way, doesn’t pick the cast OR the pros) was making the assumption that if Maks is under contract he’ll be on the show – this is a very good assumption and one I totally agree with, but it is still just an assumption. But that is not automatically true. It never has been.
Man, I miss all the fun.

So, Maks throws that statement out there so all the talk is centered on Maks. But, how come there is no chatter about Derek who has said THIS season is his “swan song”. Derek leaving will leave a bigger void in creative and innovative choreography on DWTS than anyone else. Good timing on Maks’ part. Even the Emmys had the media asking Tom questions about it; no mention at all about Derek leaving. Leave it to Liz!

Hmmm….now that you mention it, between Maks and Lizzie the talk always manages to center around MAKS before the last few seasons. Pretty cheap, from a PR perspective.
