Dancing with the Stars Season 15, Week 1 – Dancing by the Numbers
All in all, a great start to the All Star season!! A whole bunch of fantastic dancing, with few exceptions, no doubt. And yet…we still have a couple instances of really hinky scoring and other hijinks. So, we’ll give Shawn and Kirstie extremely bad songs for foxtrots, give Gilles and other men PERFECT songs and then we’ll be extra sure and not only pimp Emmett, but overscore him as well. I love Gilles and think he was overscored relative to the other couples, but Emmett?? I smell fish. I’ll just echo Courtney and add…Gilles works for ABC, and Emmett is a football player scoring high on MONDAY Night. The female football audience?? Yeah, that’s not suspicious at all. :::rolls eyes:::
But, after all my moaning….those scores are essentially irrelevant because the exactly wrong person was the low scorer and by a significant margin. Anyway…
The Judges Scores and Percentages
As you probably deduced all on your own, Pam and Tristan are in real trouble. The judges were absolutely right when they called her out on her lack of preparation – seems clear they are paying attention to studio time this season, like they have occasionally in the past, and it’s going to be noted if you don’t do well AND you weren’t putting in the time. It’s the All Star Season. It’s to be expected.
Anyway, what does Pam have to do in order to survive to dance again? Pray. And hope that someone else (Drew? Helio?) is completely forgotten. In terms of votes she needs to do ONE of the following in order to be safe:
- Pam has to get 7,340 more votes per million votes cast than Kirstie, OR;
- She needs to get 9,050 more votes per million votes cast than Bristol, OR;
- She needs to get 12,660 more votes per million votes cast than Joey, OR;
- She needs to get 14,470 more votes per million votes cast than Melissa, OR,
- She needs to get 16,280 more votes per million votes cast than either Drew, Helio or Kelly, OR;
- She needs to get 18,100 more votes per million votes cast than either Shawn or Apolo
I could go on but I won’t. You get the picture. The only one of these that I could see happening is Melissa or Helio…with an outside shot of Drew. I don’t think that Pam has the juice to get past either Bristol or Kirstie….or Joey….but I’m going to say right now that Melissa and Helio could be surprises. If there is such a thing as a surprise elimination this season.
Anyway, let’s say that by some miracle (and crazy Tristan fans
) Pam survives. Kirstie is the next lowest scorer. In order to stay in the event that Pam gets past her, she would need the ONE of the following:
- Kirstie has to get 1,810 more votes per million votes cast than Bristol, OR;
- She needs to get 5,430 more votes per million votes cast than Joey, OR;
- She needs to get 7,240 more votes per million votes cast than Melissa, OR,
- She needs to get 9,050 more votes per million votes cast than either Drew, Helio or Kelly
Yeah, I think she can do all that easily. I don’t think she’s in trouble. Bristol? Needs ONE of the following to happen if both Kirstie and Bristol survive:
- Bristol needs to get 3,620 more votes per million votes cast than Joey, OR;
- She needs to get 5,430 more votes per million votes cast than Melissa, OR,
- She needs to get 7,240 more votes per million votes cast than either Drew, Helio or Kelly
This is where I’m less sure. I don’t know if Bristol has it this season like she did in her original season. These are the all stars!!
I could go on and on, but at the end of the day, I think Pam is going home. If there’s a shock, I think it will be Melissa. If there is a real surprise that I don’t discuss here, I’ll do a numbers wrap up.

I think you’re right and it will be Pam. I really, really hope that it is not a surprise Melissa elimination. There are plenty of people left that I like and would root for, but I just don’t think she deserves to go this early, not by a longshot
Fascinating as always and you outdid yourself (as well as Court in the Power Rankings). I asked 3 ladies who came in store today (who watched the show) who they thought should go home. Everyone said Pam!!! No one is picking Bristol to go home like I am. I am hoping Tristan and Pam’s fan base is going to keep them in. The thing is…Pam can dance and way better than Bristol. But, if people are judging Pam only on last night (and rightfully so), I fear Pam is going home too. Sad. I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed for her.
I wonder if 1/2 points that were given make a difference? What do you all think?
I’m with you Vogue. I really hope Pam sticks around for several reasons, but the main one is that I think she is far more interesting to watch than Bristol or Melissa or Helio for that matter. But if she does get a second chance, she darn well better make the most of it and practise like crazy!
Thanks for the Numbers, Heidi! Bye bye Pam! I’ll miss you Trstan.
@Maddy, I don’t think the half points will make much of a difference. As Heidi points out many times with these numbers posts, 1 whole point doesn’t make too much difference. So the half points? Nah.
Thanks for the number post and analysis. I always look forward to these. I agree that Pam couldn’t afford to have an off performance last night and am sad to agree it’s likely her going home. I thought I wouldn’t mind a first week elimination but now that it’s almost here I wish it weren’t so.
Thanks, PH. Not what I wanted to read, but it’s what I expected. It’ll be a miracle if Pamela and Tristan avoid elimination tonight.
I’ll be sad
to lose Tristan (and Pamela), but it’s not an unreasonable choice given last night’s performance. What was Pamela thinking? She knows how time-intensive the show is. Signing up for All-Stars when she had a lot of international commitments that would limit her rehearsal time is just nuts.
I don’t think Gilles was overscored, as may others were underscored.
If Pamela survives tonight. I’ll eat my hand.
Well, I have to give credit where credit is due and Bristol did not stink last night. Do I think she’ll win. NO. Do I think she should last long? NO. BUT, Pamela was just so bad and it’s such a travesty for me personally because she is a representation of my favorite season, which is Season 10, so it makes it more painful to see her go but she did not do any favors with that dance. That and the fact that she was great in her original season and still found herself in the bottom two more than once. Yeah, I don’t think she’s going to last. Bummer, but it also wouldn’t be fair on anyone else (ESPECIALLY Melissa, who had my favorite dance of the night)when they did great.
Haha, I love this “Anyway, what does Pam have to do in order to survive to dance again? Pray.” ROTFL!!!
@SophiaPehawkins Okay, I’m dying to ask. Is that your real name or did you get that from The Golden Girls like I think you did?
BooHoo …. absolutely did not want it to be Pam tonight, but in all fairness it should be her. I feared this was going to happen when I had read here that Tristan had tweeted something to the effect that time was their enemy. I too thought that Pam should have known better, especially since her dance skills were not that great in her own season, and now she’s up against the All Stars. I guess she figured to make hay while the sun shines, only one opportunity to be on an All Star season, not something that could be postponed. Still ….
Not 100% sure who I would send home in her stead, but totally agree with Meggie that Pam would be more interesting to follow in the weeks ahead than some others, including …. Kirstie. IMO. I loved Kirstie in her season, rooted for her and supported her with my votes. But this season just feels like a rerun – been there, seen that, nothing new. I really didn’t see anything fresh or exciting; however, I do love having the kind and funny Maks back.
Well, Tristan will just HAVE to do MORE pro dances
).
Sheery, I hope you’re right that Tristan will do more pro dances if Pam gets offed tonight. I didn’t get to see Pam dance in her season, so I just kind of assumed she wasn’t a good dancer based on her performance last night. Tristan is such a good dancer and such a cutie, it would be a shame not to see him again because Pam’s schedule didn’t allow them the practice time they needed. I feel sorry for Pam if tonight is the last we’ll see of her (and I hope the international jobs paid more than she would have made surviving more weeks on the show). I wonder if the all-star celebrities get paid more for being in all-star season than in a regular season? They could argue that they have to work harder during an all-star season than during a regular season, so they should get paid more. Just speculating.
Yep, I agree the writing is on the wall for Pamela tonight, unfortunately. I was hoping to have her around longer than this. Since Tristan came on the show I’ve been hearing about his enormous popularity and huge, growing fan base but I think his fans had too much of a voting challenge last night to overcome what happened on the dance floor.
I think Pam is expecting to be eliminated as she just Tweeted “waiting for the axe to fall”. She knows what she did was not up to par. That said, I could wish she would have another chance and that Bristol would go home. Not happening though likely.
I wish so too Marlene! Dang!
Bingo on Emmitt. The producers piss me off to no end. I’m hoping Melissa can last more than few weeks.
Probably Pamela going, but, honestly I think it could be most anyone and that we’re in for some shockers this season. No matter who it is, it’s gonna suck tonight and for the next 10 weeks.
[...] Heidi: Said Pam was leaving with a outside chance of Melissa, Drew or Helio [...]
Drew was in bottom 2 so FOUR couples passed him in votes and Helio and Kelly got more votes than him. The worst thing to come out of this is that Bristol and Kristie still have lots of dedicated voters, it would seem. Oh geez. I enjoyed him last night, but I was surprised that a lot of people find his package off putting, that he sounded defensive and butthurt there, that his and Anna’s dynamic wasn’t that great?
Really?
I love Drew’s dry wit.
But he and Anna need to step up. I hope he’ll do much better next week.
:::sigh::: it doesnt automatically mean they have tons of voters….it could also mean Drew has none.
Yeah… I understand that, but I was hoping no one/not that many would vote for Bristol. And Drew is not a popular figure but he was a favorite of an earlier season, I would have guessed some people still love him. But for even Melissa to pass him, that was a somewhat shocking for me. (0.5% but still)
@Nathan, sorry to respond so late! I wish it was my real name (more like alter ego). 100% from Golden Girls.
@SophiaPehawkins AWESOME! I loved that episode. One of the funniest ones IMO.
Kind of depressing, too. “What happens when there’s only one of us left?”
I love all the girls, but Sophia is by far my favorite. So many great one-liners.
