SPOILERS!! DWTS Season 15, Week 1 – Who’s Goin’ Home??
A bit of white space so Twitter doesn’t spoil it accidentally….As expected due to the low scores, Pam and Tristan are exiting the ballroom in week 1. Chin up Tristan fans – we’ll probably see him in so many pro dances that we’ll be sick of him by week 4, much like Val last season.
Did everyone note Brooke using the words “bottom two” ?? I sure did, and Drew was the other half of the bottom two. Step it up, Anna. Of course, Brooke could have bungled that, but that would be a big bungle.
How’d we do?? Well….
Heidi: Said Pam was leaving with a outside chance of Melissa, Drew or Helio
Courtney: Also said Pam
Vogue: Said Bristol was on her way out.
For a change, Courtney and I score.

Well we found out the answer tonight to which guy out of Tier 2 (Joey, Helio, and Drew) has the weakest fanbase right out of the gate and it was Drew. He got beat out by Bristol in the votes. Uh oh. Here we go again? I highly doubt Pam and Drew were the only ones Bristol beat out in votes. But of course they kept her to the end to scare her fans to vote even more to vote next week!
I wonder if this wake up call to Drew’s fans effect someone like Helio, Melissa, or Joey next week.
LOL! Dang! Ok, but, you just wait!!lolll
Seriously, I was so hoping to see Pam’s splits again. Oh well. Hopefully, we will see her do her broadway number at the end of the season.
The only surprise to me tonight was that Drew was in the actual bottom two. So he’s got to game up a whole lot more and unless he and Anna get their chemistry straightened out, he should be afraid. But as Court said on Twitter, there is no reason why Bristol should be beating him in fan votes!
I’m not too shocked that Drew hit B2. Sort of in the middle of the show, middle scores, and little chemistry with Anna.
It’s not just that Bristol beat him on scores but so did Kirstie, Helio, Kelly, and Melissa.
There are only so many votes to go around. Drew is competeting with some strong guys for the same types of votes.
So Bristol got ATLEAST 7300+ more votes to pass Drew. Here we go again
Totally agree with you, Marlene. Drew and Anna really need to up their game and their fans really need to get voting!
I think the right person went home this week. It was also a shock to me that Drew was bottom two. I thought he would have more fans than both Helio and Joey, but boy was I wrong! I hope his fans step it up next week, I just hope it is not at the expense of Melissa! She probably has jive next week, right? That should be a good dance for her, and I hope Kelly will do well with quickstep (?).
I’d say maybe a Brookebot malfunction, but she usually sticks to her cue cards. Other than the dance duals, have they ever combined “jeopardy” and “bottom 2″ in the same week? Seems like it’s been one or the other, but maybe I just never noticed.
Jive is the dance Melissa was injured for and we only saw her rehearsal for, so I’m fairly excited to finally get to see her tackle the Jive full on.
I hope Sabrina can soften it up a little for the Quickstep next week.
Jive should be an excellent dance for Shawn.
I was actually really shocked to see Drew in the Bottom Two. Pam was a given, but Drew?! Certainly, that was a wake up call for him.
Shocked about Drew. And I agree with those saying his chemistry with Anna is a little wonky. Maybe she’s picking on him a little too hard?
Not sorry for Pam. She set her schedule, and didn’t do the work. She didn’t earn another week, IMO. And while I’m on the subject of Pam – again IMO, but a woman who has appeared multiple times in Playboy naked doesn’t get to be timid about anything…
Not surprised to see Drew in the bottom 2 to be honest. He did not come across well last night. I don’t see the chemistry between he and Anna as well, just not a really good pairing IMO. And while his dancing was not bad, he didn’t stand out and and I forgot about him when recalling all the dances until I rewatched the whole show on my dvr.
The right person went home tonight. I don’t have much of problem with Pam, but she gave the weakest performance last night and considering the fanbases of all the stars this season, she would’ve had to do something incredible in order to stay another week.
Lol, was hoping it would be the kissing bandit Kirstie Alley! Awww.. Poor Tristan he and Pam are the 1st to go. Hoping Anna and Drew get it together, I want Anna to get her 1st MBT. If not, Kelly and Val
I only have one thing to say…and it’s not really on topic…but I love this site…I check it every day sometimes several times in a day…just like face book, twitter and Huff news (I know weird combo right) but I just want to give a shout out to those of you who work so hard to keep bringing us the information, the stats, the predictions and all of it…it is so fun!!
@Lynne, I check this site multiple times a day, too. Hell, sometimes multiple times an hour
I do love it here. Thank you, ladies and John.
Drew in the bottom two over Bristol? Drew’s dance wasn’t that great, but it was better than Bristol’s. I’m hoping it’s not like the last time she was on and she just cruises by all the better dancers every week. Although I don’t think she deserved to go home last night, she didn’t have the worst dance, I don’t believe she was better than Drew. Anna and Drew should be worried. The person that deserved to go home did and I’m so disappointed for Tristan. I did not see Pam’s season, but from everything I’ve read, she can apparently do so much better than that train wreck. I just don’t understand how you agree to something like this, knowing the time commitment it takes, and have all this other stuff you’ve already committed to. She should not have agreed to it and given the spot to someone else. I hope we do see Tristan in a lot of pro dances and hopefully next season he will get someone willing to work at it. My favorites right now are Kirstie and Maks, Val and Kelly and Joey and Kim. Least favorites, Bristol and Mark and Sabrina and Louis.
I’m worried about my girl, Anna. I think Joey’s hoarding all the boy-band votes. *LOL* Honestly, though, I never got the big deal about Drew. I disliked him when he sub-hosted for Samantha back in the day and I just don’t find him very likable.
And I’m not convinced that it’s a question of Bristol etc… getting so many more votes, over Drew not getting many at all. I tend to lean towards the latter.
I’ll be honest that I don’t know who Drew Lachey is other than Nick Lachey’s brother. What is Drew famous for? The first I ever heard of him is when he last did DWTS. But I admit to being older and not following all the ‘youngsters’.
Also must say I’m really starting to love Val C – his dancing is superb (I think he’s the best ballroom dancer on the show, and I hear he’s a pretty good hip hop/urban dancer as well) and we’re getting a chance to see his personality also. Great sense of humor and flirtation in his interactions with Kelly – no doubt that he’s from the Chmerkovskiy male gene pool!
Oy vey Bristol. Yes, she’s improved, but that’s kind of damning someone with faint praise. I turned to The Voice during her VT and interview with Tom Bergeron last night. I just don’t want to watch her or listen to her. Something about her just turns me off. But I have to remember that she’s a favorite or okay for someone else out there. I know everyone votes for their favorities, but I hope the home voting will at least bear some resemblance to quality of dancing.
I’m with you Lynne on the Huff Post for news and Pure for my entertainment
And I’m with you Evaine in worrying about Anna. She’s one of my 3 favorite pros and I really want her to go far, so I’m rooting for Drew. I know some people don’t agree with that, but to each his own I guess.
I set myself up to vote a lot because I want to vote for a few people but I had a LOT of trouble with online voting. Wonder if anyone has some hints. Even with a different internet provider I couldn’t vote past my first few accounts. Hmm. I tried several times at night and early in the morning and again later in the morning. I was splitting votes but trying to lay it on heavy for Anna/Drew because of my favorites I thought of them as vulnerable, but it wouldn’t let me vote for anyone else either so no conspiracy theory here.
Yeah, Jess, I was having trouble voting online too. After a few votes I’d get an error page with a long strip of error code. Tried clearing my cache but that didn’t help. :/ Hope they fix that for next week!
Phone voting went fine and dandy though. Easy-peasy.
In my opinion with this All-Star cast, anyone and everyone is in danger of going home in any given week. Everyone needs to give their all each and every week. Or it could be Bye-Bye!
@Violet – I just wanted to share this tidbit with you, when you posted your gravatar, I thought to myself, geez, we have been chatting amongst one another and now we have her picture, and I said to myself, Isn’t she cute… But now I am wondering if it is really Karina.
I think Brooke was reading her cue cards correctly, and we saw the real bottom two last night. The combination of putting people “in jeopardy” early in the night and then announcing the “bottom two” for the elimination works just fine. Hope they keep doing it.
It surprised me to see Drew/Anna in the bottom two. They haven’t gelled yet as a couple, but I thought they’d done enough to get through cleanly. Hope they don’t panic and get even more intense and uptight this week because that’s not going to solve anything.
Pamela was the right choice for elimination. As much as I adore Tristan and liked their partnership, for me it has to start with the dancing. I wish it had been otherwise, but they didn’t deliver.
PH, I hope you’re right about seeing a lot of Tristan in the pro numbers because I need my Irishman fix.
@Sandy, Ha! Yes, it is Karina. Maybe I should have used one that is more easily recognizable of her? But I just love that picture. She looks so happy.
I jsut finished watching the results from last night (long story short I was kinda wrapped up in a movie last night (“The Strange Case of Benjamin Button”…..awesome movie). Anyways, I have three questions: 1) Drew in the bottom 2?! 2) What was the robot thing during pitt bull’s performance supposed to be and did anyone else think it was unneccessary? 3) Bristol in the bottom 3 was expected but Mark’s reaction when they said he was safe was a little unprofessional.
I had a strong feeling that Drew was in danger because of all couples on Monday night, they were the only ones to show a distinct lack of chemistry, which wasn’t saved by a great dance. Of all the couples, only Pam/Tristan and Drew/Anna had moments that made me feel uncomfortable, and people don’t want to see that. Combine that with a smaller fanbase, a pro that probably has a loyal, but smaller fanbase than other pros, and the rest of the cast being all-stars – especially such great male celebs – and Drew is one of the weaker links for sure. He may rally next week, especially with the announcement of the true bottom two, but unless he improves by leaps and bounds I think he is likely an early exit. Hopefully not, as I love Anna – let Bristol go home first.
Did anyone else think 2 hours was way too long for the elimination show? i was bored the first hour and left to go do other things and the only thing interesting to me in the second hour was Pitbull’s performance. Tom’s comment about how they were not only entertained but also fumingated was so funny. I thought Pamela was the right person to go. Next week Bristol. I expect the level of dancing to improve a lot by next week.
On a side note, I think I know what is off about the Anna and Drew pairing (just my opinion though): When he was paired with Cheryl she was tough but Anna is even tougher. This worked in the sense of getting him to improve his shoulders and posture. BUT there is not a lot of chemistry there at the moment.
Also, how awesome was the troupe dance. I usually am not that impressed by the troupe dances but WOW. Sonny and Henry were sick in it and Sasha was great as well as the ladies, espeically Emma. Cannot wait to see all three as competing pros in the future seasons
One hour is plenty for the results show in my opinion. This was actually one of the more entertaining ones as far as I was concerned, but it was the first hour that I liked. The “musical entertainment” in the second hour was the part I couldn’t care less about. I always DVR the results show, and I scrolled right past Bieber and Pitbull.
I hope they drop down to 1 hour soon.
I wish the pro routine had been longer, it went by way to fast and there were so many people on the floor at the same time! I like them both, but I could have done without Peta and Maks kissing (didn’t even look like a real kiss IMO).
The troupe dance was also amazing, although I liked last season when Sharna and Henry danced together. I guess Sonny gets her now because of his height. Looking forward to more routines choreographed by Jason Gilkison!
For once I agree with the judges on how they scored Monday evening. Gilles definitely had the “whole” package with his foxtrot! And, yes there is some acting when performing a dance number. You become the character in that number. In addition to being in sync with Cheryl Emmett exudes an expression of pure enjoy when he dances that makes you want just be happy
I agree Andrea! The whole Maks and Peta kiss thing was just unnecessary. It didn’t add to the routine and was just awkward. Plus the routine was sooo short. If your going to dilute the pro performance with troupe members then make it be longer and have more of the pros featured solo or something. I watch the show for the pros not the celebs or the damn troupe!
My feelings are that, with the exception of a few celebs( Kirstie and Bristol ) the others are pretty well matched when it comes to talent. Each has their strong and weak points but all are very good dancers. The argument about who the better dancer is will give way to who is better liked and who connects well with the viewers. I know for me, there are already some who annoy me and I won’t be voting for them no matter how great they dance. Plus, some that act too desperate to win or “redeem ” themselves are a total turnoff.
As I said on twitter, I think the pro opening sucked major ass.
Seriously, go back and watch seasons 5 and 6….or the all male one from a couple seasons ago. THOSE were pro dances. This was over crowded garbage choreographed by a SYTYCDer.
LOL Heidi!!
I am really tired of Anna getting voted off so early,I really want her to make it far this season, but its not her,its Drew!He was great with Cheryl but he is so awkward with Anna!
I kinda liked the opening pro number. It was fun to watch. Saying that, the one from two seasons ago is my fav pro number ever for week one.
And I was telling someone about the troupe dance and he said it reminded him of something that would fit in with Chicago (the musical). Thats why I love the troupe. gets everyone excited to watch. He is only watching for them.
PH (# 35) – I agree with you and I don’t…
Yes, I think the pro number was crap. But where I disagree is about Jason Gilkison – yes, he did choreo for SYTYCD. But he also choreographed the “Burn the Floor” show, which was incredible. I just believe Jason was given too many people, and not enough air time to do anything more than what he did… it’s a shame, really. You’re correct in that the pro number looked like an afterthought. They need to give them more time, and let our pros really show us what they can do!
I agree with you Heidi and besides just being kind of messes in both cases they also looked liked rehashed shorter versions of stuff we have seen before. The 2 most unentertaining group numbers in awhile. And the troupe dance…kinda just picked a theme out of the middle of no-where and then..I don’t even know what happened, don’t remember anything about either except they were lit badly, frantic, couldn’t distinguish anything or anyone from either. Maybe it was fabulous for the studio audience ?? I don’t see the need to bring in choreographers from other shows. They have plenty who can do a great job. And also they had a pro/troupe combo dance an then a troup dance. Never been a fan of the troupe, tho I understand the need to have a couple of extra people. But why can the pros have a feature dance alone for a change? Anyway, venting…the short version yours Sucky and crowded, pointless, really.
Not surprised Pamela went home, but a bit shocked that Drew was in the bottom 2. I don’t think their rehearsal package helped because I know they’re goofy, but the edit made it look like they weren’t getting along. I do think Drew was much better in the latin dances and jive should suit him pretty well so hopefully they won’t be in the bottom. The one that surprised me was Kelly and Val. I remember in season 1 they only rehearsed about 2 hrs a day. Now that most couples do about 6-8 hrs a day, I’m really excited to see what Kelly can do now that she has more rehearsal time and the body to do it.
I think the reason they started the show at 8 was for filler and also to prepare us for next week when the show starts at its regular 8:00 PM slot rather than the 9:00 it has been for a while now.
My prediction is that if the 9-10:00 shows don’t pan out, we may have more two hour results shows.
People are always blaming the edit. Drew’s package was a pretty accurate distillation of how the relationship and rehearsals were going.
That’s really interesting, Buttercup. I am not surprised because they look strained together even outside the video package – not necessarily a dislike, but at the very least, stressed. Hopefully they can reconnect and bounce back, but I still think they are not going to last long with so many other great options to vote for. Lucky for him that Pam had such a poor showing and seemed really off, and unlucky for him that Kelly had such a strong showing and Bristol is at least a little improved. Shame, cause I love Anna and I like Drew, but I do like other celebs a lot more.
Oh man, I love Anna, love her sense of humor and love to watch her dance. Drew is bringing to my mind Ian what’s his name from Apolo/Joey season, so serious and almost fragile with the intensity. For me, I love to see fun, happy and care somewhat less about technique that I don’t completey understand anyway. I get that technique should matter a lot, especially this season, and I love to see beautiful dancing, but as it’s been said often, if you want a real ball room competition, go watch one. This is an entertainment show for me. And I want happy. But I also get that there can be something for everyone and there are plenty of happy couples on this season to give me my fix.
Buttercup, how do you know that? Did Drew and Anna really spend 4 to 5 hours a day for 2 weeks the way the VT showed? I would think a VT can only show us a slice of what passed between a couple during all those hours. It may be characteristic or it might be what the producers decide to show us. And even that ‘slice of life’ can get edited to put a spin on it. Not saying that they did that here – I have no way of knowing. Do you have an inside scoop that you’re sharing with us?
Buttercup is a DWTS insider. Her info has always proven to be legit, at least as far as I can tell.
Ditto that, Figamentation. I always look forward to reading her comments for that reason.
Buttercup is, indeed, LEGIT. And what she’s saying is basically echoing what I’ve heard about Drew & Anna from other sources: that they just don’t mesh well together, and that Anna’s being really, really hard on Drew. As much as I love Anna, I’m beginning to think that the reason she hasn’t won yet has less to do with her partners, and more to do with her – she seems like she’s not easy to get to know, and comes across a little…icy. I even remember Jonathan saying in an interview that Anna was not very friendly to him at all when they first met, and that it took months & months before she finally opened up to him. I’d imagine having walls up like that can really take a toll on a partnership.
I know a lot of people tend to lump Anna & Karina together as the “tough Russian women”, but I find that Karina, though still tough on her partners, comes across quite a bit warmer and friendlier in rehearsals…as well as with a better sense of humor
Anna seemed fun loving with Carson and warm with Jack, I’m trying to think back about her partners. No doubt tho there’s a cool factor with her. I haven’t spent a lot of time is Russia, but a little, and a little time with Russians who immigrated here as adults or young adults. And in my experience, there is an initial iciness. She grew up during the fall of the Soviet Union. And she had asthma and spent a lot of time in the hospital…I’m pretty sure would have been nothing like spending a lot of time at, say Riley Hospital or another US childrens hospital during the same time period. (which would have bad enough for sure) So she’s probably one tough cookie. Still I really really like her and want her to go far.
Anna is my favorite pro but she definitely has a guarded side to her. Not that she doesn’t know how to have fun but her way of having it includes sarcasm. It is a defensive yet smart ass way of handling things, one I’m very much familiar with. Pair that with being genuinely tough on Drew and it could come across as hostile. Drew, on the other hand, strikes me as a very matter of fact kind of guy so the communication is probably strained and confusing.
He also, and this is pure speculation on my part, may be a little disappointed that, as a former champ, he got a pro with a less then stellar track record.
I don’t know that he’s neccesarily disappointed that he got Anna – they both seemed pretty enthusiastic when they first found out they were paired together. I just think he’s disappointed that they don’t get along better – and that she’s seemingly impossible to please.
Sometimes I get the *bitchy* vibe from Anna.
Courtney, you are dead on. Anna and Karina may be similar in some aspects, but totally different in others. Like night and day actually.
Bummer..
That’s what I got out of the video package – that Drew is getting “nit-picked”, and he’s not real happy about it… crap.
So, I was thinking about the bottom 2 from this past week, no shocker about Pam being there, she didn’t put in the time & effort. At first I thought “Wow, Drew’s in the bottom 2″, but after mulling over it, Drew being the bottom 2 is not a shocker, considering his season was 6.5 years ago, also I think whatever fanbase he has, has waned over the years, despite him winning his season. Looking back at at season 2, Stacy Kiebler was by far the better dancer, and I think a huge reason Drew won was because of his freestyle in the finals, while Stacy’s was a huge let-down. I’m with a lot of others on here, I definitely did notice a lack of chemistry & connection with Anna hopefully that will improve, because I really like Anna and loved watching her when she danced w/ Evan Lysacek.
Speaking of Drew’s fanbase, his band,98 degrees fanbase is definitely no where near the size of other boybands (NKOTB, BSB, or N’Sync). As far as I recall back in the late 90′s, N’Sync and BSB had massively huge fanbases for boybands, 98 degrees was always by far, a very very distant 3rd playing runner-up to N’Sync and BSB, and considered by some a redheaded step-child of boybands. Joey at least still has his N’Sync fanbase, seriously though are there even fans of 98 degrees out there to support Drew? Most people I know haven’t even heard of the boyband Drew was in. Drew was mostly known as the brother of Nick Lachey aka 98 Degrees frontman who was formerly married to Jessica Simpson. If there’s any one pulling in the boyband fanbase votes, it’s Joey. I also find Joey a lot more likable than Drew who I thought was being a little bit of a smartass & cocky to me, and that was something I didn’t find that particularly endearing.
So to me, it’s really no surprise that Drew was in the bottom 2, like Len said he was stiff in his foxtrot, increased arrogance/cockiness, lack of chemistry & connection with Anna, combine the above that w/ a small & dwindling fanbase and that pretty much sums up why he was there.
I have to agree to a certain degree with a lot of comments up-thread.
When Anna has someone like Carson or Sugar Ray, she’s laid back and tries to make it as much fun for them as possible because she knows they don’t have what it takes.
When she feels she has a contender, she gets really tough. Evan responded well to that because he had the same serious, nit-picking training habits and an even more reserved personality. Drew seems like someone who needs a balance of praise and criticism because he’s a lot more of a people-pleaser type.
Drew needs to speak up. He’s an adult and he’s a former champion. If he has a problem with Anna’s constant criticism, sit down with her and talk it over.
If they don’t sort this out, they won’t be around long. I’ve already lost Tristan. I don’t want to lose Anna too.
I don’t know Anna at all, but am I the only one who remembers that she cried up a storm when Evan Lysacek was being picky about her choice for choreography and then left?
I too was shocked at Drew being in the bottom 2 but as others before me have already said, 98 Degrees never really had a gigantic fan base to begin with. Their biggest hit was in 2000 (or maybe 2001) and it went to #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. And yes, N*Sync & BSB were the top 2 by a long shot and then some.
As for the dance, it was actually one of my favorites and get this, I personally thought he was a strong contender for the Finals based on that dance so it is a bit surprising to read a lot of comments noting a lack of chemistry which I didn’t notice and overall stiff, which I personally disagree with but it is what it is.
Still love me some Anna though
I think in a normal season, Drew would have been fine after that performance. But when there’s so many likable, talented, and/or popular stars to contend with, any hint of issue like partner chemistry, some stiffness, or just not as much of a connection with the audience, it is going to quite possibly be the difference each week. Now a Shawn or Apolo might be able to skate by after an off-week, but Drew just isn’t nearly popular enough to have that kind of cushion. Next week will be interesting, that’s for sure. It’s too bad Bristol isn’t getting the jive, since we know she’s terrible at it and that may have been enough to have her gone next week.
