DWTS Anna Trebunskaya And Jonathan Roberts To Divorce
Awww, isn’t this some sad news this morning. I thought Anna Trebunskaya and Jonathan Roberts would always be together. Below is what they’ve told People.com exclusively on their break up.
“We have enjoyed more than a decade of a very loving, loyal and happy relationship, but after much soul searching, we have decided to end our marriage. We are committed to staying friends and dance partners. We have immense respect for each other as people and performers,” the pair said in a joint statement Wednesday.
Atleast they will always be “friends” and “dance partners”.
Nooooooooooo. Sad
Sorry to see this news.
What a shame! They’re such a beautiful couple 🙁
I am going to be cynical and say: “This is what ‘Hollywood’ and ‘L.A.’ does to couples…”
It’s sad. I realise though, that I haven’t ‘seen’ much of them together over the past year-ish and Jonathan hardly ever tweets anymore. I always thought they were an oddish couple, but they seemed to make it work. At any rate, 9 years is a good run.
You know what’s running through my mind now? The beautiful and emotional dance that Anna and Jonathan did last year for their friend Yulia (that’s her name, isn’t it?).
Well, it’s also what the ballroom world does to couples, Marianya – the life of a ballroom dancer is not exactly compatible with the normal convention of a marriage. The long hours, the travelling, the time and energy spent honing your craft…all of it can really take a toll on a relationship. Don’t I know that 😯 I’ve seen it happen with many other ballroom couples – over time, they just get pulled in different directions, don’t make time for each other, and in the end, they just drift apart. I’m guessing that, between Anna being on DWTS and Jonathan devoting a lot of time to competing with his students, Anna & Jonathan just barely saw each other anymore and got out of touch with one another. It’s sad, but it happens. At least this seems to be a peaceful divorce – nothing messy or hurtful.
This is so sad and @Evaine you must have read my mind as that is the same emotional dance that I remembered. I don’t remember her name, but I believe she was battling cancer. When Jonathan and Anna danced they always exuded such love and tendernes.
@Gail & Evaine – It was Julia Ivleva, and from what I hear, she is still alive and fighting the good fight despite her stage IV diagnosis 😀
Bless her! That’s good to hear, Court. *sends out some good thoughts and vibes*
Thanks so much @Courtney as I am bad at remembering names. So happy to hear she is still alive and fighting the good fight. As a cancer survivor who lost two very dear friends when fighting my own battle I so relate and hope that even with the stage IV diagnosis she will be with us for a long, long time. Bless her always.
Congrats on beating the cancer, Gail! And Julia’s fight is even more miraculous when you consider that she was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer…in JANUARY of 2011. With cancer that advanced, the prognosis is usually no more than a year – Julia’s already at almost 2 😉
Tasteless joke in 1…2…3…
So, Jonathan’s available?
Haha, just kidding. But really, that sucks. Beautiful couple, bar none my favorites to watch dance together. I had actually been wondering about Anna lately, as she seemed “off” this season, but I hoped it was simply due to the strain of her and Drew together. Maybe that was still a factor, but it’s sad to know that there was genuine pain going on as well. Divorce sucks but it’s also hopefully a time for new beginnings for each person. I wish them both well.
@Gail, thank YOU for sharing your story as well. @Courtney, thank you for the good news about Julia. Sad for Anna and Jonathan – I will always fondly remember their dance to Nora Jones’ “Come Away with Me” and how they held one another and swayed back and forth in the background when Tom and Brooke were talking to the cameras after their performance. Also glad there appears to be a peaceful decision.
a sad day in my little dance world. I always loved them as a dance team and morphed that into feeling they had that same magical connection in real life. Bummer, for sure. No matter how much respect and love a couple has for one another, divorce sucks. I wish them both well.
:o(
What a shame. I think we all felt something was “off” with Anna this season but attributed it solely to a strained relationship with Drew.
It was always wonderful to watch Anna and Jonathan dance together, since they always seemed to exude that special chemistry two people really in love can bring to a dance.
This is one of those splits that really does seem surprising. Very sad.
Very sad to hear this but wish them both the best as they move forward.
This so sad. It sucks they couldn’t work things out. Did they consider watching Fireproof together?? 😛 Anyway, like others said, atleast it’s not a messy Jon and Kate type divorce.
My heart hurts for them both! 🙁
I was so looking for to see this season waltz, always love when they dance in the results show.
Thank you both @Courtney and @Deena. I am so happy that Julia is proving that miracles do happen as I do believe in them.
@Meggie my heart hurts for Anna and Johnathan as well. They were just a beautiful couple to watch and the news of them splitting makes me sad. I am happy that they will remain close friends, but it has to be extremely hard for them.
I’m sorry for the pain this must be causing both of them, and wish them both the very best.
Their career paths definitely went in opposite directions these last few years. So in some ways this isn’t a total surprise. I believe Jonathan has come to enjoy the stability and challenge of teaching and staying closer to home, while Anna continues to enjoy the very differen challenge and rush of competing on DWTS and spending more time in the public eye.
Kudos to them for their courage in agreeing to go their separate ways and for doing so in a mature and civil manner.
This makes me so sad. 🙁 The dance they did for their friend was the most beautiful dance I’ve ever seen.
Just got home…when I heard about this it broke my heart! These two were THE perfect couple, but I didn’t think Anna was a little different this season, just didn’t know what it was.Broke my heart!
Very sad to hear. Who knows why. I wish each well.
Such sad news hard when you drift apart like that. I have to agree with Marianya to a certain extent. Very hard for a couple when one of them is more in the spotlight!
A very warm special couple that you could enjoy watching over and over and never get tired of excellent performance. Wish them both the best, in life.
