DWTS15 Peta Murgatroyd Writes About Maks Chmerkovskiy, Kirstie Alley, Gilles Marini, and More
Peta Murgatroyd has penned a new blog at People.com. She first writes about how much she and boyfriend Maks Chmerkovskiy love his Dancing With The Stars partner Kirstie Alley. Kirstie also has this way of bringing out a warm side of Maks on the show that not many get to see. Peta also writes of she and Gilles Marini’s new dance for Country week and the hectic week they’ve had and how much talent and dedication Gilles has. More in detail below….
Kirstie [Alley] and Maks have such a kooky relationship. Kirstie is crazy, and Maks and I both love her dearly. She brings this funny, humorous, warm side out of Maks that I know, but on the show, not everyone else necessarily does. I’m glad people can see it. She’s such a comedian. When we’re with her, we’re constantly laughing. Everyone has such a good time with her, and she doesn’t take anything too seriously.
This week is country week. Gilles [Marini] and I are dancing to Shania Twain’s “Man, I Feel Like a Woman,” which is an amazing, catchy song to have. We’re doing a cha cha. We’ve had a hectic week because Gilles is back to filming [ABC Family’s] Switched at Birth. It’s been long hours.
Gilles has so much talent and so much dedication to the show, but I’ve been surprised with our amazing scores these last two weeks. I wasn’t expecting 10s for the Bollywood routine. I think his acting skills have really come into play, and we work really well as a dancing couple. These dances have shown our chemistry.
I’m okay with staying at this level of difficulty for now. We’re just over the halfway point of the competition, and if we continue to stay this way, with two 10s and a nine through the finals, then I will be very happy and satisfied. If we get three 10s in the finals, then that’s the best time to peak.

of course you are ok, you get over scored every week having NO difficulty on your routines. I’m expecting another lazy choreo from tonight show, this two are a joke.
And I don’t agree with her when she said that no one deserved a 30 yet, I’m sorry but Shawn Mambo deserved. Flawless routine, a lot of difficulty choreo and perfectly in the rules.
I think Peta has officially lost me. She’s gonna pull a Maks when she starts getting scores she deserves.
Evidently there’s not much upstairs. Wow.
It’s funny how Maks seems to be bending over backwards to pretty much never mention Peta’s name in interviews, Twitter or his blog, yet half her blog is about him.
Yeah, Peta is certainly not gaining any new fans with this blog. I haven’t liked her, or her attitude, for this entire season. I tried to wait as long as possible to give her and Gilles a chance to renew my faith that they aren’t such a shitty pair, but I think between Peta’s inexperience, her uninspiring choreography, plus her being so outwardly enamored with Maks to a point where I feel a little uncomfortable, and then Gilles putting himself front and center every opportunity he can and the awkward way he has tried to display himself to anyone who will look, I’ve gotta say Peta and Gilles are my hope-to-go next couple because it looks like Peta isn’t going to give me any good routines to make up for all of the crap they’ve been spewing this season. I was waiting at least for it – that we’ve suffered through Gilles and Peta but we were going to be rewarded with fantastic routines. I kept waiting for that to happen, but I guess that’s a pipe dream.
Thx, Katarina. I thought I was the only one thinking that!
Figamentation _ I agree, If at least the dancing was good, but not only their attitude stink, and the dance is just mediocre and boring.
She’s assuming they’ll make it to the finals in order to ‘peak’. I don’t want to see a couple coasting through the dances on the same difficulty level because they know they can rely on the overscoring.
I think what bothers me most about Peta in general is that I feel like we know nothing about her personality – all the talking and interacting I’ve seen her do so far hasn’t really revealed much. I mean, when I think of the other female pros, I can say things like “Oh yeah, Kym is the sweet one, Chelsie is the proper one, Cheryl’s the tough one, etc.” and then I get to Peta and I’m just like “Peta…is Peta.” *shrug* I think katarina may have hit the nail on the head – there doesn’t seem to be a whole lot going on upstairs. Or maybe there is, and she’s just got the windows curtains drawn so we can’t see. Either way, I’m just feeling kinda apathetic towards Peta…and it’s edging it’s way into irritation, since I feel like she is doing nothing to try and get her partner in check.
So Someone already posted the rehearsal video from Gilles and Peta for tonights show. According to egomaniac this is one of the hardest cha cha he has ever seen on the show, and if he do it right he will great incredible scores.
I would love to understand his obsession if the word “ever”, best jive ever, best rumba ever, best dance ever, hardest cha cha ever.
Is she dating Maks? I don’t think she’s told us before. ;p
While I’m not the biggest Kirstie fan, I think saying “she doesn’t take anything too seriously” is quite the back-handed compliment, IMO. Sure she’s a jokester, but I think I’d be ticked if I worked as hard as she does on the show for Maks’s Girlfriend to tell me I’m not taking it seriously.
But I love Karina, Kym, and Anna, far more as female pros. This doesn’t surprise me from Maks’s Girlfriend. Didya know she’s Maks’s Girlfriend?
He doesn’t talk about her much in public, so one would hope he is aware of this title. π
Please dear God let Egomaniac and Maks’s Girlfriend get lower scores this week – you know, like ones they deserve?
“According to egomaniac this is one of the hardest cha cha he has ever seen on the show”
– I’m having a hard time thinking of a contestant I’ve wanted to punch in the face more than him. Aaron Carter came close, but Gilles is in an island all to himself. What a douchebag! LMAO!
“Iβm okay with staying at this level of difficulty for now”
Not crazy about this comment when other couples (*cough*Shawn*cough*Derek*) have stated they want to get better from week to week.
I just don’t understand how Gilles can say that “this is the hardest cha-cha” he’s ever done when the SINGLE cha-cha he did before was in WEEK ONE of his original season. Get over yourself.
As for Peta, I liked her a lot with Donald. I think with Donald she was wanting to get far, but wasn’t expecting it. She at least seemed a little more genuine with Donald. And the “keeping the difficulty where it is” comment is a little disconcerting to me because of the fact that she shouldn’t be doing that. Especially not on the ALL-STAR season. You should be going for it ever week. Karina, Tony, Derek, and company all seem to realize that if you don’t up the ante every week…well… But then again, everyone else is suffering more from correct/under scoring whereas these two are being cushioned by over scoring.
Also *cough*Apolo*cough*Karina have been increasing their difficulty level since week 1. The whole point is to get better, and they’re not exactly helping themselves by being “satisfied” with what they’re doing :/
And I have to say, I’m getting more and more annoyed with her incessant need to incorporate Maks into everything she says. We get it. He’s your boyfriend. You guys are dating. You do not need to act like an insecure high school girl who needs to constantly remind everyone and herself that she has a boyfriend.
“βthis is the hardest cha-chaβ heβs ever done ”
No, he said this is the hardest ch-cha he’s ever SEEN! (Well, according to laila. I didn’t go back and check original source).
But he is Not only The Most Interesting Man in the DWTS World, he also is doing the Most Difficult Cha-Cha HE (the Most Interesting Man in the World) has EVER SEEN! So logically, this should be The MOST INTERESTING, MOST DIFFICULT, MOST CHALLENGING, MOST FUN, and SEXIEST Cha-Cha IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD!
Thank you! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! Gilles for bringing this joy into our lives. HOW did we ever watch any of the seasons before you graced us with your presence? My life clearly was totally unfulfilled before him.
Gilles has the Don Equis beer man complex, as Bonnie’s put into such great words! Loved your post!
And why should Gilles and PETA change and try to get harder and more interesting routines when one of the pair is SO good at self promotion, the other is so good at promoting her relationship with Maks, and the judges are rewarding their mediocrity over much humbler and better dancers?
I didn’t like the sound of this blog either.
Mystified, trying to square it with the Peta who partnered Donald, when her body language, general demeanor, and utterances were so different. I can’t imagine what resources it must consume to spend so many hours every day for weeks with Gilles, and how the constant stress of that effort/exposure might alter one’s normal strategy and interactions – particularly as the intensity of his egomania grows in the glow of his press and the judges’ scores.
Not giving her a pass for sure, but all that “Gilles Time” would change me into a zombie. In the earlier interviews, she seemed more likely to curb his ego polishing, counter his comments, and call him out on his exaggerations. Sometimes lately she seems like she doesn’t even want to be associated with him in the picture.
But here she seems to have swallowed some of the Kool-aid.
I wish I had some insight into why she now appears so meek.(survival technique?) I don’t expect Gilles was over her shoulder when she wrote/approved of this blog nonsense. And how much brass does it takes to tell him: “Look, you can’t play our dance music so loud; there are other people practicing here- if you like it that much, crank up the volume at your house.”
Plus she choreographs a lot of poses and raunchy business, and I don’t see the guy doing a lot of dance steps or intricate combinations. And the scores he gets are from another planet. I really don’t want them on my TV right now.
I love what Peta has to say in her blog every week she has become my new favorite pro next to Kym.
I love Peta too, but, I wish they’d back off on the promo. “Less is more sometimes”. Just let the dancing and art speak for itself like for what we saw with she and Donald last season who I loved.
I agree, Sara, about Apolo & Karina, as well as others on the show upping their choreograpy. I think I said Shawn and Derek because their my favorite for this season. π
I really liked Peta last season so I’m hoping it’s just her partner this season (who I LOVED his original season) that’s making it hard to like her this season. This blog didn’t bother me too much, just the one line I quoted earlier about staying at the same level of difficulty.
I’m seeing a bit of a trend here. Remember when Maks and Cheryl were doing whatever it was they were doing and then she let her ego blow up on her? Now same is happening with Peta. Post-Maks, Cheryl is becoming the pro I liked before. At least I see a bit improved change in her this season.
I think Peta pushed it last year because Donald was pushing it. Donald knew better than most celebrities what worked and didn’t work for him and he was a contributing partner if not the lead in their creativity. Remember the Finals package? He was the one that came up with the concept for their free-style.
Peta might be a good choreographer, but only if pushed from a smart celebrity partner.
@ Courtney
You know Courtney, you hit the nail on the head for me. I haven’t liked when Peta gets picked on, IMO, for her choice of boyfriend and her looks, things of that nature because I thought this poor girl has done anything mean or bad so I didn’t want to criticize her. But I didn’t feel connected to her in anyway. You’re right, there isn’t enough of a personality that gives me anything to work with. It may be because she’s still fairly new on the show? But I don’t know.
Anywho, I have been disappointed in her choreography. I think because, for some reason, I expected her to be great without really knowing her. Maybe routing for the new kid syndrome. I didn’t expect her to be the bumping and grinding, have to be sexy character all the time. It certainly wasn’t wise of Peta, IMO, to announce that they were remaining stagnate on their level of difficulty leaving the impression she thinks they’ll be in the final anyway and make it up then.
As far as Peta and Maks, I’m glad if they’re happy. I would say it’s not my business except Peta makes it everyone’s business. I think Maks learned the hard way not to advertise his relationships after Karina (well there was that Ukranian Bachelor thing?). I guess I am a little surprised that they, as a couple, don’t approach disclosing their relationship the same way as it’s very personal. But like I said, to each their own. Whatever floats their boat.
@MNBonnie
Haha….you made me chuckle. π
Yikes, sorry for the long post. π
I definitely agree you Jennifer. Shawn and Derek are my pick for the season too π I just felt like Apolo and Karina deserved a mention because I went back and rewatched their samba and the amount Apolo’s improved since week 1 was extremely noticeable.

Ugh, pardon the homophone error again! I meant rooting, not routing.
