Val Chmerkovskiy Intervewed About DWTS, Growing Up In The New York Area, And More (Video)
Good Day NY interview Val Chmerkovskiy today. They ask him straight up if he’s coming back for Dancing With The Stars Season 16, but, he doesn’t know yet. They (the producers) will keep the dancers waiting until the last minute to find out. Val says they will probably find out the end of February. He plans to keep his schedule open. Val also talks of growing up in Brooklyn and playing the violin near the area where this interview takes place. Lots more below including his thoughts on this past season of Dancing With The Stars and his holiday plans to help Hurricane Sandy victims…
he is def very opposite of Maks…i have never heard Maks talk about showcasing his partner, making the lady look good, a vision, or anything like that….hmmmm however it does sound like someone else i know??? LOL…couldn’t refrain:)
I’m tellin’ ya, I think Derek inspired him. How could he not be inspired after some of the dances this season and Derek’s successes on the show?
I really think Derek did too…i didn’t want to get into a Derek love fest, BUT…haha. After going through this season, Val talks different (even since the beginning of the show)- he speaks about the partnership, and showcasing, and vision…there is only one other person on this show that EVER spoke like that. Maks has stated numerous times that Val was like “how many times have you done this? how many finals? semi finals? This is so physical, mental, and emotionally draining!”….as in most things…its always easy to talk the talk until you walk a mile in someone’s shoes…do you know how hard it is to stay creative? keep it fresh? And Val you have been only doing this, um 1 season!!! (i won’t count the first 2 because he literally got 3 weeks deep between both). I think Val finally appreciates what it is all about, and because he is more gifted than Maks (in all aspects- dance, choreography, artistic, and passionate)- i think he gets it….He gets what Derek has been saying and KNOWING for years…hence why he was able to be so successful. I bet Val would take back that comment he made last year on the View about Maria…If he continues like this, i could def root for him…and maybe even like him:) Now the other one…he just never learns!
Good for you, joey! ( I mean that in a good way; it’s just hard to tell when you’re not saying it in person!) For me, I can’t get on the Val train quite so fast. I’d like to hear him say how Derek or whomever has inspired him. I’d like him to explain that crack he make about Maria last year, and I’d like a chance to see how he acts next season before that.
#4…haha that is why I said if he continues like this!!! No one was harder on the C bros than me- and rightfully so- they do & say alot of idiotic things…but after dwts ended Val has made positive progress…now if he stays there, well that is a different question:)
Having grown up in Ukraine, Val not saying idiotic things – neh, do not see it happening, LOL. But I hope he keeps growing and gives us great performances, he certainly did not disappoint me this year.
One interesting bit of information – Val was born in Odessa, it is a medium size city, but they have their own and very good Opera House – with ballet and opera performances, I know he left young, but hopefully got to see some of the beautiful productions there. It is a very “artistic” city, a lot of very famous musicians, singers and actors came from Odessa, but especially – comedians, town is known for it’s sense of humor.
Val didn’t “grow up” in the Ukraine any more than Derek really grew up in Utah. If maks has been here since what? Age 12? Then Val had to be even younger.
Growing up there has got to stop being used as an excuse for their various foibles. Especially when one of them is over 30.

I feel like I should defend myself – but the thing is, there is nothing to defend, I agree with you; I was not trying to find an excuse, just offer my opinion – I grew up in Ukraine, just like Val’s parents who raised him, and I believe it gives me some prospective on how he was raised. And if he did not learn how to speak publicly until now, I doubt he will – which was my point.
As for Maks, I did not mention him at all. It was about Val, not Maks.
Faby, you are welcome. It is an awesome city. I am not form Odessa though, but I have been there many times – had family there.
irina, I wasn’t speaking directly TO you in that second paragraph – hence the paragraph break. That signals a change in either subject or person one is responding to.
The “other one” thought he was hired to teach celebrities to dance ballroom, not dance around them, make them look good, and hide their faults. His mistake, but understandable.
#12 It’s not really understandable this many seasons in. If he was teaching in a dance studio, I’d agree, but “the other one”, has known the score for many seasons. He’s just not very good at coming up with choreo that hides their weaknesses and highlights his partners’ strengths. You have to be quite creative to do that.
I’ve heard maks say that several times-most recently with hope and Melissa. The problem is he never does it
Yeah, really?? He’s been on for how many seasons now? Perhaps he could have figured it out after 1 or 2…at most 3 or 4??

Oh, that’s the brother you were talking about? I didn’t make the connection…a bunch of other people were commenting that Derek, mark, Katherine and a bunch of London friends were partying in the same club as Cheryl Cole last nite – and Cheryl’s brother has been know to hang with her and her friends.

Haha yes multiple convos going on all revolving around Derek-lol. Val is following Derek now on twitter not Gary tweedy (although he is too lol:). But yes Derek, mark, London friends and Katherine were all hanging out at the club- but I don’t think CC was there (maybe maybe not, her PA Lily was there but no mentions or pics of her and she did have that big concert tonight but I guess that doesn’t mean anything bc there were no pics of Derek, Katherine, etc…they must have a secret backdoor!
Katherine was on super DL in regard to last night – and that short of shit only seems to happen around Derek and any female he knows. It’s the oddest thing. Dude, when you are SO secretive around beautiful women, people are going to think you have something to hide – if you and KJ are just friends, why not ACT like it? I think Cheryl Cole made him ultra paranoid. I don’t think there is anything to him and KJ at this point…but the secrecy is OTT. I guess, compared to some, he is to be commended for his attempts to keep his life private, but dang. What is wrong with people wondering if you and she have something going on?? Say no and move on.
Exactly- but here’s the thing him and Maria battle the romance rumors (yes she has a bf but in today’s world literally means nothing)- they are open about their friendship. If they were in London together pics would be uploaded no problem. Every time with Katherine it’s super quiet and she isn’t like that with Mark ya know??? She twitters him, uploads pics, etc- but not Derek. Mark mentions katherine and Sam (her BFF) mentions Derek but everything in between is gray. i think they are friends, BUT something might be going on..if nothing more than drunken hookups…lol. He was quoted in sept as saying they aren’t dating- BUT they are super close….so take it for what it’s worth. They meet up when they can…I don’t know maybe it won’t amount to more but there is an attraction there in my humble opinion!
Oh and when Maria was on Howard stern with her bf- Howard called out Derek an Katherine and Maria was like uhhhh I don’t think so…and keven was like come on Maria- please. He then went on to say that all the dancers get a ton of girls but that is neither here nor there:)
