“45 Minutes Of Fame” With Dancing With The Stars Tristan MacManus

Dancing With The Stars pro Tristan MacManus has been in Florida this past week making appearances and giving dance lessons at the Fred Astaire Dance Studios in Florida. Lucky for us, PureDWTS reader Gail Conn and her friend Shannon have been going to the festivities. Here is Gail’s fun and magical report to us and a sweet picture of her and Tristan as well. THANK YOU GAIL!! Without further ado, below is Gail on her experience with our Irish Lucky Charm….

Northern Florida was very lucky recently to have a week-long visit by the talented, handsome and ever-so-charming Mr. Tristan MacManus of Dancing with the Stars. His dance card was full nearly every day, with long lists of happy local residents who had private lessons with him. As one lucky lady remarked about her private lesson in Panama City, it was the “Best 45 minutes ever!!!”

Following the crowded group lessons, fans lined up to have pictures taken and autographs signed by the dancing star, and young and old were turned on to the joys of dancing, some for the first time ever, by a master of dance who’s also quite a heart-throb on the smash hit tv series, a treat that might be expected in New York City or Los Angeles, but in the small resort cities of Northern Florida, it was a delightful treat indeed!

Despite the weather, the turnout was great, not only for private lessons but for group ones as well, in Panama City (Mon Tues Jan 14-15), Crestview (Wed Jan 16), and Pensacola (Thurs Fri Jan 17-18), where MacManus also hosted an “Open House” and treated a packed dancehall with a sexy exciting Rumba with a local female pro.

Not far away, in Gulf Shores, Alabama, MacManus will team up with Anna Trebunskaya, also of Dancing with the Stars fame, and two members of the tv-show “troupe”, Sasha Farber and Emma Slater, performing in the traveling Broadway-type dance show, “Ballroom with a Twist”, on Tuesday, January 22.

The studios’ Facebook sites are jam-packed with photographs of Mr. MacManus and his many lucky students, and the other talented professionals in the Fred Astaire Dance Studios of Panama City, Crestview, Pensacola, and Ft Walton Beach. And be sure to keep in touch with them, because this isn’t the first time the area has been so honored! Just last June, ballroom spectaculars were graced by Mr. MacManus, joined by quite a few others from the series: Tony Dovolani, Kym Johnson, Maks and Val Chmerkovskiy, Karina Smirnoff, and Peta Murgatroyd.

But don’t wait too long – these events fill up faster than you can say two-three-cha-cha-cha, which would sound a lot more charming if you had been there to hear the adorable Irish hottie Mr. MacManus calling out the beat to a roomful of budding ballroom aficionados. Read more..

How to Fix DWTS – An Open Letter to Producers (Part 3)

This post is part 3 of a new series where I basically tell the producers of DWTS how they should change the show – it’s for their own good. :-)  If you want to read parts 1 and 2, you can find them here:

How to Fix DWTS Part 1

How to Fix DWTS Part 2

A reminder for those easily induced into righteous indignation – this is NOT about the various couples but about the JUDGES and the Producers – I’ve provided examples of problems that I remember from season to season. If you get your knickers in a twist about Melissa or Shawn or Mya or Nicole or Maria, I’m not going to waste time arguing with you, I’m going to call you names (maybe to myself, maybe publicly – we’ll see) and then ignore you. Keep it on topic.  And by all means – if you remember other instances of fishiness, feel free to share. I can’t guarantee we will agree, but I would be interested to hear.

Dear DWTS Producers (cont.)

We’ve talked all about the stupid scoring methods the judges have, although not really touching on how much you producers influence that scoring. It’s really hard to say what is Len being an ass and what is producer directed underscoring with the goal of drama, making it a horse race or holding on to the contestants who grab viewers attention, albeit not necessarily actual votes.  Who’s doing it and their ultimate goal? Don’t know, kinda care, really wish you would CUT IT OUT. I think it’s obvious. One only has to compare how Len scored Shawn, Nicole and Mya to see a pretty distinct pattern. I didn’t look much farther than those three, initially, but after my last posting I had to look at another talented dancer, Jennifer Grey. Jennifer didn’t suffer from the same scoring bullshit as the other three ladies. Why? Well, my guess is that she wasn’t anywhere close to “guaranteed” win (in the producers and judges eyes, mind you) that the other ladies were. She was 50 years old at the time and had some rather serious medical issues – almost didn’t dance in the finale, if you recall. Falsely crapping on her dances would seem…well, heartless.  She started the show as the sympathetic character with a very nostalgic feel. The other pseudo ringer that season was Brandy – she learned to dance for a movie, like Jennifer, and went to a performing arts high school – like Jennifer. Keeping in mind that I haven’t seen her dances since her season aired, you will note that she was getting consistently beaten by Jennifer in scoring up until week 5, when she beat Jennifer. She also beat Jennifer in week 6, then tied her in weeks 7 and 8, before being eliminated. I’m tempted to say that she had the Len curse that season….but since I haven’t watched the dances in a while I can’t really make the call. Looks like it though.

Brooke and Kristi were the high scorers nearly every week they were on the show, season 5 was all over the place, and Gilles seemed destined to win season 8, which leads me to believe that this little game didn’t really start happening until after that season. Were they getting tired of sure things, even though Gilles ended up not winning? Decided to make the game more interesting? Totally pissed that Shawn won and Gilles/Melissa didn’t?  I wish they would quit it. It’s always nice to have excitement on a show, but not at the expense of reality. Read more..

Karina Smirnoff Helps Present “New American Noise”, Attends “The Last Stand” Premiere

Karina Smirnoff looks so cute all dressed up for the ski slopes, doesn’t she? Yesterday, the Dancing With The Stars pro attended the Nokia Music, SPIN, Sundance Channel and SomeSuch & Co Present “New American Noise” in Park City, Utah. You can see more pictures of her at Getty Images as well as some pictures of her arriving to the airport with her boyfriend. DWTS Season 16 Rumor: Arianny Celeste Meeting At ABC With Producers To Dance?

Arianny Celeste had a meeting today with her manager at ABC studios. Maybe this is something and maybe it’s not, but, since she was rumored as being asked to dance in Dancing With The Stars in Season 11 and she also attended a show this past season (October 16, 2012), it kind of makes one wonder?

From her twitter:

DWTSRumor3

See her site for a post and a picture of she and her manager from today.

In case you don’t know, Arianny is a model and a UFC octagon girl. You can read more on her here. Thanks to Courtney as she saw the tweet too and helped me with some UFC corrections.

Pretty…what do you think if there is something in the making?

Derek Hough and A Different Kind of Choreography (Video)

I thought I posted this days ago, but apparently it didn’t “take”. :::shrug:::

Derek, along with Mark, has often been the pro most likely to get creative in between seasons of DWTS –  and often in unusual ways.  This off season, he has a new and different kind of student: a robot. A company called Tosy asked Derek to help them choreograph mRobo, which is…well, you’ll have to see it for yourself.  Derek went to Las Vegas to attend CES 2013 on Thursday to help present the work (to date) he’s done with mRobo and it appears he had a really good time doing it.  You can see more pictures of the event at PureDerekHough.com.

Have we seen the last of Derek on DWTS? Seems like it, but you never know with this guy. He mentioned on twitter recently that he has some “incredible projects” he’s working on this year, but that they may take a while to achieve. Yes, vague as always – he’s also the most tight lipped of all the pros, both personally and professionally – but it does sort of imply that he won’t have time for DWTS. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

General Hospital Executive Producer Wants To Bring DWTS Val Chmerkovksiy Back To Soap Opera

Guess what? If scheduling works out, Dancing With The Stars pro Val Chmerkovksiy may be making a return to General Hospital. This time…to DANCE! Below is more from Access Hollywood.

“Yes, we would love to bring Val back,” Valentini told Access at the ABC post-Television Critics Association Winter Session 2013 bash in Pasadena, Calif., last week. “It’s a little trickier because of scheduling, but if we can bring back Val, you may see him do a little dance with Kelly Monaco.”

Val previously appeared on the soap alongside Kelly’s on-screen mom, Alexis, played by Emmy winner Nancy Lee Grahn.

This time around – if the scheduling works – the “DWTS” pro will appear at the Nurses’ Ball, the function spectacle-wearing nurse Sabrina Santiago (Teresa Castillo) is working hard to revive.

“Yep,” Valentini confirmed of the proposed storyline. “We’re crossing our fingers. That one is totally based on schedule. We love Val, he loves us, he had a lot of fun [last time on the show] working with Nancy.”

“Why not have Kelly and Val dance at the Nurses’ Ball,” actress Lisa Lo Cicero, who plays the newly-psychic Olivia Falconeri, told Access, when we ran into her at the ABC party.

Lisa said Val was on set when she filmed one of her more dramatic moments of Fall 2012 – when Heather Webber (Robin Mattson) threw Olivia down the stairs.

“What a doll,” Lisa said of the “DWTS” hunk. “He was there watching the day that I did the stunt where I got thrown down the stairs. It made us all nervous because we didn’t want to look like douches in front of Val… He’s pretty cool.”

For the full story and to read more details, see Access Hollywood.

Cool! I’m tempted to start watching this soap again. 8O

ADDING: The NY Press also interviewed Val. He talks of his music, Dance With Me Studios, General Hospital, Dancing With The Stars, and more. You can read it here. Below is a little take….

On a typical day, how many hours do you dance?
Unfortunately, not enough. I think I get all of my dancing out of the way during the season of Dancing with the Stars. This last season especially, I went through grueling training, not only as a teacher to Kelly [Monaco], but also as a partner. I would say I dance a good two to three hours a day. I only say that because I teach five hours a day. And I’m not one of those instructors who sits back and points fingers. I’m actually on the floor.

You also rap, and guest-starred on General Hospital. Are those things you want to pursue—singing and acting?
Yeah, music is my passion. I’ve played the violin for 15 years. In terms of hip-hop music, I grew up in New York and that’s how I learned English, through Biggie. For me, that genre is really familiar; I’m attracted to it. As a young kid, I loved poetry, so those two elements came together, and I started writing and creating hip-hop music. In terms of acting, I would love to pursue that as well. These are avenues that people, when they have an opportunity, jump at—and a lot them fail. I don’t want to do them just because I have some sort of celebrity status. I want to do them well.

How long do you plan on competing on Dancing with the Stars?
I have a respect for the show and am very thankful for it. Whatever opportunities I have now, yes, my talent has earned, but Dancing with the Stars opened them up for me. Even if I have other projects, my loyalty will always be to that show. Besides that, I think it’s an amazing show—and clearly millions of people enjoy it as well. So as long as they ask me, I’ll be back.

Maia Campbell on DWTS Season 16 – Rumor or Campaign??

Were any of you fans to “In The House“? Well, last night, a cast member of the show, Maia Campbell, tweeted this tweet below. The “you just never know” leaves a person wondering depending on it’s context? Though I’m thinking it’s just a campaign post. So, if this were to happen, would you like to see Maia Campbell on Dancing With The Stars? I think I’d be open to it. She might a great partner for Maks or Val. Heidi?

RT if You would like to see me on the next season of #dwts you just never know @
@MaiaCampbell
Maia Campbell

Heidi: I go back and forth. The way she wrote it almost seems like she’s pondering an offer, but odds are great that she’s just trying to get something going. And campaigning never works. :-) I’m guessing this is a campaign – but Vogue is right. We are right in the time frame when rumors start to come out and the producers are hitting it hard to find people to dance. Show starts in March, which means rehearsals start in late February, right? I don’t remember the exact date off the top of my head, but they are running out of time.

New Miss America Mallory Hagan Would Do Dancing With The Stars In A Heartbeat

“Extra’s” AJ Calloway interviewed the new Miss America, Mallory Hagan, in New York’s Times Square this week after her win. As Miss America fans know, she did an amazing tap dance for her talent routine. He asks her is she’d ever do Dancing With The Stars. She said she’d “be on it (Dancing With The Stars) in a heartbeat”. She raved about Cheryl Burke being a judge on Miss America and now she feels like they are “already friends”. Mallory points out how they haven’t ever had a Miss America on Dancing With The Stars. Wow, so true and I can see this happening. What’s more, I’d love it Mallory did Dancing With The Stars. What do you think? Let’s get Miss Heidi’s thoughts….

Heidi: I’m not a fan of Miss America, the pageant. Don’t hate it, just am not a fan. And that might be why I say that I can’t see it happening – I mean, what kind of viewership did the show get?? And is there any way that the pageant would give her the time to actually do the show? I doubt it very much. And if she has to wait for her reign to be over? Then she’s no longer relevant unless she parlays it into a higher profile gig. Hell, the Bachelor chicks are more famous than Miss America, I think. Sorry, Vogue – I don’t see it happening. :-)

ADDING: Below is a new interview with Miss America and the WSJ Digital Network. They ask her about Dancing With The Stars and think it would be unfair if she danced. She defends herself and thinks it would be the best thing for the Miss America Organization. So true. I am so dreaming for this girl to dance!!

Dmitry Chaplin A “Diamond In The Rough” On Premiere Episode Of Bones (Video)

Did any of you get to see Dmitry Chaplin on the premiere episode of “Bones” last night? If so, how was he?

I haven’t seen the show since I’m not really a fan, but, Dmitry fans were lighting up twitter last night raving about him. If you missed it and you’d like to watch this episode with Dmitry, you can view it at TV Show 7.

Thanks to DmitryDreamTeam at facebook for the heads up. ;)

ADDING: Below is a wonderful review by PureDWTS reader “Violet”;

Dmitry Chaplin Proves He Has Acting Chops on Bones

On January 14th, fans of both Bones and Dancing with the Stars were treated to a double dose of entertainment—DWTS pro Dmitry Chaplin guest starred on Fox’s popular drama, playing the partner of a professional ballroom dancer who was the victim in the lab’s latest case.

Dmitry’s character was named Kendrick, a sizzling hot star in the ballroom world, known together with his partner as being the best of the best. Though he was a suspect for a very short amount of time, it was quickly determined that he was not the killer…just an arrogant dancer trying to get on a TV show that would provide him instant fame and a big paycheck.

I thought Dmitry gave a great performance, which I honestly wasn’t expecting. His dancing was wonderful, of course, but the acting was what surprised me. Watching the show, I was impressed by his ability to show a range of emotions, and he was very believable in his portrayal of a hot, cocky ballroom dancer, which is so different from the gentle personality Dmitry displayed on DWTS. Maybe he modeled his character after Maks?

THANK YOU Violet!!!xxx
