Aly Raisman Is Excited Because Dancing With The Stars Will Be A Challenge

Aly Raisman tells Boston.com she “clicked” right away with her partner Mark Ballas when they first met this past Sunday. She already feels close to him and the whole cast of Dancing With The Stars. She also talks of her dancing skills. Below is more in detail…

Q. How familiar are you with the rest of the cast?

A. I have met everyone, and it is an awesome cast. I already feel so close to so many people and I have been in contact with a bunch of the cast members since we first met on Sunday. We will keep in touch while I am in Boston and everyone else is spread out around the country practicing. I love meeting new people!

Q. How would you describe your dancing skills?

A. I honestly have no idea how to characterize my dance skills. All I know is that I am going to need a lot of help, because it is actually completely different than gymnastics. I have never tried any of the dances that I will do on the show, so it will definitely be a challenge, but that is why I am so excited. I love working hard and trying new things. When I am with my friends I love to dance and be crazy, but I don’t think about technique. It’s going to be so much fun!

She’s going to be a “go-getter”, isn’t she? To read the full interview, go to Boston.com.

PureDWTS Jacoby Jones Comes From A Long Line Of Dance Lovers In His Family

Baltimore Ravens Jacoby Jones minces no words. He’s taking Dancing With The Stars very seriously. He told E News that he plans to take it the top and win the mirror ball trophy. Check out the fun video here. Also you can see a photo from Jacoby’s childhood. Note how he wasn’t always the big, bulked up guy he is now.

Also, did you know Jacoby’s Mom loves to dance? She told the Baltimore Sun that dancing runs in their family and her son is a “natural”. Be sure to read the last paragraph below for what he told her when she told him he needed to take up ballet. LOL, so cute.

And Jones’ mother, Emily London-Jones, in a telephone interview from New Orleans, said dancing runs in the family and described her son as a natural.

“I love to dance,” said London-Jones, a popular figure with the Ravens after feeding the entire football team during the Super Bowl in New Orleans with her highly-praised Cajun cooking. “My family loves to dance, we all love to dance. Jacoby gets his dancing from me. It’s a religious thing for us, the gospel music. Jacoby grew up with the blues. It’s in his blood. We are all going to be glued to the television.

“I told Jacoby, ‘I want you to take up ballet.’ He’s pigeon-toed and he’s got to drag that foot to get those touchdowns. He told me, ‘Mama, I can’t do no ballet,’ but he has some foxtrot in him. He’s got that rhythm to coordinate. I know the judges are going to love his charisma, and his moves.”

Wynonna Judd Talks Of Dancing With The Stars, Kirstie Alley Being Her Mentor, And More

There is a great piece posted at People.com on Wynonna Judd today. She tells them why she decided to dance on Dancing With The Stars. It’s a great diversion for her because it will help her focus on self-care for herself and other women. Her health declined shortly after her husband Cactus Moser’s leg was amputated in a motorcycle accident last August. Former Dancing With The Stars contestant Kirstie Alley has been her mentor through the process of deciding to do Dancing With The Stars. Check out Kirstie’s advise to her….

“I definitely went into being the wife and caretaker, and I let myself go in terms of way down the list,” she says. “There were days and days and days that I didn’t walk. I’m a walker, and I’m always telling my fans how to be healthy. It’s not about size and numbers, but I can honestly say I’ve seen the pictures from when I got married and before, and I see them now and I think, ‘You know what? I deserve to be healthy. I’m worth it.’ ”

Wynonna calls her pal and two-time former Dancing contestant, Kirstie Alley, 62, her “mentor in this process.”

Says the singer, “I’ve talked to Kirstie so many times. She said if you have fun and you do everything that you’re going to be doing with your heart, the rest will follow. I really believe that. She really misses [the show].”

Wynonna, who is partnered with last season’s all-star winner, Tony Dovolani, is eager to surprise viewers.

“It’s cool because I don’t think a lot of people thought that I would be doing this show,” she says. “There’s a little bit of me that goes, ‘Oh, really? Watch this.’ I do have a competitive part of me.”

Awww, I just love her and her heart. I love how she has a competitive spirit for all of this too. You can read the full story at People.com.

Dancing With The Stars Pros To Star In New Pitbull Music Video

Below are some pictures from some of the pros of Dancing With The Stars. When they first started tweeted them yesterday, we thought they were some teasers for their Title Shoot sessions for Dancing With The Stars Season 16, but, now we’ve found out (thanks to Karina Smirnoff) that the photos were shot behind the scenes of a new music video for Pitbull. It’s also possible the video could be part of a new commercial. Thanks to everyone who has helped us piece together with this story.

Below is Cheryl Burke and Kym Johnson…

Executive Producer Conrad Green Speaks Out About The New Cast Of Dancing With With The Stars Season 16

The Executive Producer of Dancing With The Stars, Conrad Green, wants to make up for lower ratings that the show has had last season. Below is what he tells TV Guide on his thoughts about building the new cast…

“For us to have someone who was a game changer on the Super Bowl is great fun,” says executive producer Conrad Green.

“[Hamill] has got such a place of affection in America’s heart,” he says. “I think everyone will love to see her performing again.” But she’d better watch out: She’s going up against another Olympic gold medalist: Aly Raisman, 18, captain of the 2012 U.S. gymnastics team.

Judd, who has been open about her lifelong struggle with her weight, told Green that she’s looking forward to getting toned by throwing herself into training. “I think every woman in America can relate to Wynonna,” he says. She’ll have to outshine another singer, 26-year-old Kellie Picker, the show’s first American Idol alum.

Adding comic relief, and possibly some great hoofing, will be D.L. Hughley, 49, and Andy Dick, 47. “Andy said that, in high school, he won a dance competition,” Green says.

He’ll still have to slug it out with boxing great Victor Ortiz, 26; former General Hospital heartthrob Ingo Rademacher, 41; Disney star Zendaya Coleman, 16; and The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’ Lisa Vanderpump, 52.

Is Green hoping to get a better table at one of Vanderpump’s tony restaurants? “That’s really all this is about,” he jokes. “To make sure we get good reservations.”

In my opinion, they have scored with this new cast and the changes we’ve seen so far, but, we’ll see. Lots more at TV Guide. Be sure you see all the featured links.

DWTS2013 Lindsay Arnold Not Easing Up On Victor Ortiz And More

New Dancing With The Stars cast member Victor Ortiz visited the Gary Bryan Morning Show on K-Earth Radio this morning to talk all about boxing and his new dance gig. Below is a take where Victor talks about his first two rehearsals with new pro and partner Lindsay Arnold and having the jitters. Note how Lindsay is not easing up on him…

“I’ve done two rehearsals with Lindsay, and she doesn’t ease up on me, which is good,” he says.

Though he’s used to being in front of millions of viewers in the ring, Victor said he was nervous about the DWTS announcement this week.

“This is nothing like being in front of millions of people for what I do,” he said. “It was completely different, just the announcement alone yesterday, I got so jittery, I was very nervous, Lindsay was trying to tell me to calm down a couple time, my heart was beating a hundred miles an hour.”

Despite having some pre-show jitters, Victor is confident going into this season of Dancing and is sizing up his competition with fellow celeb contenders. He says he thinks his biggest competition on the show will be Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman.

You can read and listen to this two part interview in full here. He and host host Lisa Stanley have a boxing match too in the video below…

DWTS Season 16 – The 12th Contestant Exists After All!

Well, we now have several sources that confirm that there is indeed a 12th contestant. One source is someone who was in the audience yesterday for the live cast reveal and who contacted Courtney.  Kristina Hampton was in the studio audience and said that they were told there was another contestant that will be announced later – after they asked about it because of what they read here (I love that part – thanks Kristina).  Apparently the question was asked during a New York segment and the California contingent was not on the air.

This is supported by the fact that several media outlets are still reporting on a 12th contestant, including the mention in this article about how badly Emily Maynard wanted to do the show. From US Magazine (emphasis mine):

Eleven of the twelve celebrities competing on Dancing With the Stars were revealed on Good Morning America Feb. 26: boxer Victor Ortiz, Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman, actor D.L. Hughley, country singer Wynonna Judd, Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Jacoby Jones, Disney Channel star Zendaya Coleman, comedian Andy Dick, Olympic figure skater Dorothy Hamill, actor Ingo Rademacher and Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Lisa Vanderpump. The final contestant will be revealed before the new season begins Monday, March 18.

Not everyone in Hollywood is clamoring for a chance at the Mirror Ball trophy, however: A source says Olympic swimmers Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte both turned down the chance to dance!

I also saw some other media this morning that talks confidently about a 12th contestant – like it’s a done deal – but I’m not sure where I saw it. Maybe Miss Vogue can add a link back to the post where it is? 🙂

Vogue here with an update: Check out this tweet from the official site last night. It supports this theory even more being Peta Murgatroyd is in it for which the 12th contestant might be paired with…

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

DWTS Season 16 Cast Sizing Each Other Up And Checking Out The Competition

Andy Dick Completely Sober, Having Fun, And Going For It On Dancing With The Stars 2013

SharnaAndy

Andy Dick is clean and sober and plans to take dancing and this competition seriously. He’s going to have a lot of fun too and just be himself. Note that this isn’t the first time Andy has been asked to do Dancing With The Stars. He had a lot of problems the first time producers asked, but, he’s ready now. More below and at the NY Daily News! I’m loving this guy. I about died laughing when he tripped while walking out on the stage at the GMA cast announcement yesterday. Too funny!

He now claims most of his obscene shenanigans were “things that were probably alcohol-induced, so in that respect [on the show] there’s no alcohol, that’s out!

“Completely sober, if you’re [asking],” he said of his current condition. “Am I going to be showing up on the dance floor with my penis in my hand? That’s not going to be happening.”

Hope not.

The star-studded cast for the sweet 16 season includes two Olympic athletes, gymnast Aly Raisman and ice skater Dorothy Hamill; a current Super Bowl champ, the Baltimore Ravens’ Jacoby Jones; two country music singers, Wynonna Judd and Kellie Pickler; a “Beverly Hills” housewife, Lisa Vanderpump; actress Zendaya Coleman; D.L. Hughley, and daytime actor Ingo Rademacher.

With such an eclectic mix of celebrities in one ballroom, the show is unlikely to run short on drama.

Dick says he was first approached by “Dancing” producers for the show’s initial season in 2004.

“They asked me the very first season and I said no, and please don’t ask me again. It’s not in my wheelhouse, the show’s not going to last,” he recalls. “Sixteen seasons later! Also, I wasn’t in a good place back then. I would never have been able to make it two minutes into the rehearsal. Still, we’ll see what happens this season.”

Who Will Be Rooting On The Sidelines For The New Cast Of Dancing With The Stars?

Who will be on the sidelines cheering for the new cast of Dancing With The Stars Season 16? ABC has a cool write-up about it which is a fun read today. Below is a take on Wynonna and her husband and family. Did you know that her husband had a motorcycle accident in South Dakota last year and had to have his leg amputated?

Most of the real-life partners this season aren’t nearly as famous as their star spouses, though Wynona Judd’s husband Cactus Moser made headlines last year when his left leg was amputated above the knee following a motorcycle accident in South Dakota.

Moser’s leg was severed at the scene and doctors in Rapid City performed the surgery. He also underwent surgery to his hand.

The accident came just a couple months after Judd married her drummer husband in a sunset wedding on June 10, 2012, at her farm in Leiper’s Fork, Tenn. According to Us Weekly, Judd wore a Houri Barahimi dress and no shoes for the ceremony.

“I felt a joy that hasn’t been there before,” Judd said of her third marriage.

Now Judd is finally ready to take the plunge on the dance floor, after being asked for six years. “This is something I said I would never do,” she told ABC, adding “It’s the year of doing things that you’re scared of.”

No doubt she’ll have the support of Moser and her two children, Grace and Elijah, from her marriage to businessman Arch Kelley III.

More on most of the other celebs and their families at ABC.

Speaking of the new cast and on another topic, Annie Barrett of Entertainment Weekly makes her predictions on the cast. Don’t take what she says to heart though as she is there to entertain and be snarky. What’s fun though is seeing the pictures they have featured. Go HERE if you’d like to see and read more.
