Victor Ortiz Says Lindsay Arnold Has Been Killing Him In Rehearsals For Dancing With The Stars
KXL FM chatted with Victor Ortiz to discuss his boxing career and his upcoming appearance on Dancing With The Stars. Victor talks of when the show first approached him to dance. He also talks of how there is no comparison between boxing and dancing. Here is more, but, be sure to see the link for more.
Ortiz may be appearing on the 16th season of DWTS, but he’s known about the show since his friend Mario Lopez was featured in the inaugural season. The former WBC champion also revealed that he was actually approached about appearing on the show after his fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2011, but had to decline after joining several training camps that ran consecutively. Eventually, after having his jaw broken and deciding to not fight for an extended time to aid the healing process, Ortiz was able to get casted for the upcoming season of Dancing with the Stars. When asked if his footwork training for boxing helped him at all with his dance steps, Ortiz revealed that there was no comparison.
“Boxing absolutely has no comparison and hasn’t helped me one bit in dance,” said Ortiz. “So I guess all the rehearsals and everything – they’re going to have to pay off because Lindsay has been killing me.”
Looks like his hard work might be paying off? Some of his lines look fantastic.

I think it’s interesting when a new pro joins the show – there are so many variables like personality, choreography, how they work with a partner, etc that they bring and that we already *know* about the other pros. So I’m really excited to see all of the couples that have new pros (not just for the pros, of course). It looks like Lindsay (based on Victor’s comments) is a worker, and she knows how to push her celeb (hopefully she also knows when not to push).
I”m really interested in seeing new pros too, BFW. I’m curious to see if they have their own way or have been watching the show, or if they are clueless. I find it very interesting that the pros that DWTS has hired thus far, with few exceptions, seem to know how to teach. I guess they teach in the way that they were taught. I think the new ones give a fresher face to the show, which is something I didn’t realize I wanted until it happened. Do wish they would have sat Cheryl out, but ya can’t have everything.
I’m looking forward to watching the new pros too. I wonder though if it’s much harder than they anticipate, ie easy to think of creative ideas while watching the older pros do their job, but not necessarily so easy to think of creative things that you can actually teach to a non dancer in such a short amount of time. Didn’t Val kind of acknowledge that last season, that especially as the season progresses and the near impossible is expected of them and their celeb partner it’s way harder than he thought it would be. There must be some sweet spot where you have enough experience with what the show demands but aren’t yet burned out or cynical. I guess that’s why the suggestion of having all the pros sit out a season or 2 here and there.
Add me to the group that’s excited to have new pros on this season even though I will miss Anna and Chelsie.
Victor and Lindsay seem like a great match — both so “boy/girl next door”. I’m curious to see what Victor can do. His work ethic and coachability will be great, but he’s absolutely right that there’s nothing about boxing technique that will help him on the dance floor (quite the opposite, in my opinnion).
His arm positions looked kind of stiff in the Getty Images I saw. So I hope they work on softening them up a bit before the premiere.
I love Cheryl Burke and I am happy that she is returning this season she is such a good teacher and she never pushes her partner beyond what they can do
That is what I like about her she is not about shining but making her partners look good this is why she is able to get her partners to go far most of the time.
But I don’t know about D L Hughely he just says he cannot dance
I wish they had let Cheryl sit out too. She acts spoiled and big headed and I don’t think she tries as hard as she used to. Though I did like her when she danced with Rob Kardashian.
I m glad that Cheryl Burke is returning along with Derek , and Tony they had to let some familiar pros back or else the ratings would really fall flat
Derek and Cheryl are my favorite pros they are both great teachers and they both really work with their parnters and not against them like some of the other pros
I agree with Michael about Cheryl. She plays the game well, just as Derek does when he gets partners with lesser ability. They’re my favorites too, although I’m more excited about Gleb this season than either one.
I’ve never seen Lindsay before the promos on DWTS, I do agree regarding the fresh look she and Victor give off, and if a Hollywood smile gives one an edge, Victor’s starting off pretty well. I hope these two do well.
What you mean, Katarina, is that you agree with Michael/Sereneldy/Donna/Amber…and countless other names. And Michael better watch what he posts because using multiple names AND talking about the mods and not the content of the site will get him/her/them banned rather quickly. He/she/them make the classic mistake of thinking they can’t say nice things about Cheryl when it’s that they can’t say Shit about other people posting on this site or about the mods. Get that straight, Michael/Sereneldy/Donna/Amber and you can post here as much as you like.
Heidi I only go by the name Michael I don’t know hwo Dona and the rest are.
I like your site that is why I read your blogs. Sorry if I come off the wrong way I am just very out spoken. I mean no harm to you guys. I m just conversating like every one else.
“Michael” I can see your email address and your IP address. You are fooling no one.
