Dancing With The Stars Dorothy Hamill And Tristan MacManus Visit Good Morning America
As promised, Good Morning America had one of the Dancing With The Stars Season 16 couples as guests today as they will do every day this week leading up to the premiere next week. First up, Tristan MacManus and Dorothy Hamill!! Dorothy says she’s not quite ready to dance next week, but, she hopes to be now that her ice show is over. Tristan praises her and she’s doing well. She talks of the differences between skating and ice skating. She’s not use to having to dance in “shoes”. They give a preview for their first dance. More below! They are adorable. So much charm and class. She radiates “Princess” and he a “Prince”. *sigh* Who’s ready?
You can watch the interview in full HERE.
Very sweet, both of them!
I wasn’t going to bother to watch since last season was a focus on gymnastics, but I am hopeful the show wants to keep Dorothy on so perhaps we’ll get actual dancing again. Tristan is just yummy and I would love if they did a Downton Abbey themed dance
Thanks, Vogue, for all these great articles and videos. Unfortunately, I can’t see this one but your summary of it helps! 🙂
YW! 😉 xxx
Love them.
From Vogue’s summary of the interview, it sounds like Dorothy is still suffering from a lack of confidence in her dance skills. Hope that doesn’t become a self-fulfilling prophecy. If you think you can’t learn something, then you probably *won’t* be able to learn it. This is going to nag at me until I can watch the video tonight. :sigh:
This is why I think comtporary is perfect for Dorothy. She will get a feel for partner dancing without having to worry about technicalities for Ballroom, rather we’ll get a focus on her artistry, and that should help solidifying her fanbase
I agree, Lady Syb,#7 that contemporary might show off Dorothy’s carryover skills from skating a lot better in her initial dance, than say, cha cha or foxtrot. And I, too, would love to see this pair do a formal dance from your era. 🙂
Cidra, Dorothy does indeed do self-deprecation well. In the vids I get the feeling she’s laughing at herself, being truthful, expressing her understanding of the differences she sees between skating and dancing and the challenges she faces learning, all at the same time. I don’t think she’s saying she can’t do it; I think she’s saying she has particular issues with muscle memory, as well as brain memory for learning new steps and routines, so don’t expect too much from her at first.
The good thing is, she’s now done with her ice show. Both Tristan and she acknowledge that it was particularly hard for them to even focus on dance “steps” when she was still training hard every day in practices for her skating shows, where she needed to glide and perform other moves contrary to what she’d do for DWTS. Now, at least, she can focus on her contemporary, a dance style Tristan emphasizes is new to him as well. I’m knocking on wood for them, as I’m a fan, too, and will look for how she seems to feel after she’s had time to concentrate on dancing alone.
I saw it this morning but I think she is kinda lacking confidence which is surprising since she always seemed so calm and condfident when competing in ice skating. Saying that Tristan seemed thrilled and I think has his best partner yet (Gladys being a close second…..she was just so much fun).
