I'm a fashion and music nut....and I have always loved dancing too of any kind. Dancing With The Stars seems to have this way of bringing all of those things together. Derek Hough (one of my favorite dancers) said at a recent Get Healthy event that ‘dancing’ is an outward expression of what is going on inside you. OK, I am now officially hooked back into DWTS. Another poster said it would happen,and it did. Like Bruno, I cannot wait to see this young lady do the other dances. Now , please help a terpsichoreally challenged, not so young, lady to understand the difference between “jive” and “jazz”. I know some of you who post here are dancers, or related to dancers, and I would appreciate you sharing your knowledge. To me they seem almost the same dance.

i think the confusion is that the both originated from the african-american/carribean dance vernacular, but other than that they have both kind of expanded in much different ways. jive is the lating ballroom dance we know and love, while modern jazz is usually composed of leaps, kicks, jazz hands or blended with contemporary to make a lyrical jazz of sorts.

Finally got a chance to watch this. What a cute interview!
I think it could be a good move to use a classic song. Val wants to showcase her as a ballroom/Latin dancer and *not* draw attention to her hip-hop roots. She already has the Disney fan vote, but past Disney stars have proven that’s not enough. By going “old school” with the music, they’re working on appealing to the traditional DWTS demo. Besides, isn’t “retro” in fashion?
Anyone else thinking that the classic Jive song might have to do with the fact that the newer, more pop tunes lead to a difference in outfit? I know that’s totally random, and crazy, but Zendaya has to wear age appropriate outfits for her dances. If the song in the video is the song they’re actually dancing too, I’m expecting to see the polka dots and fluffy skirts that Mark is famous for. lol
Again, I know it’s random, but it makes sense in my mind.
I really am digging the classic song (so much I’ve listened to it about 5 times now.. ahem). I can already picure Zendaya in a polka outfit like Katherine’s in her second Jive
