DWTS Season 16 – Derek Hough talks about Jazz, Cha Cha and His Favorite from Monday Night

Derek’s blog this week is just jam packed with interesting things. I’ve put an excerpt below – hit up TV Guide to read the whole thing:

I’m actually in Michigan right now following Kellie around wherever she goes. I’m a little under the weather with the flu, but I think I’ll be all good for Monday. I’m just feeling a little stuffed up and sore right now, but nothing some drugs won’t fix, right?

We actually have jazz this week (typo last week — sorry!) and it’s going to be a fun one. I stepped up the choreography a little bit to show off Kellie’s abilities more. I know some of you don’t like having these new styles on the show, but I like them. I never want to repeat myself and I like having the challenge of another dance style, especially something like jazz that allows for some more flexibility for me as a choreographer. It’s a great dance for Kellie. I think she’s really going to wow everyone with what she does. I swear she was a dancer in a past life because she has the perfect body, ability and IQ for it. But it’s cool that she is a singer and has never danced before because I think that’s more impressive to more people. Having been partnered with Nicole and Shawn, they certainly had training in the sense of learning choreography, not ballroom dancing obviously, but Kellie’s never had this type of training before. I still tell her that she needs to start a second career as a dancer after this.

Rehearsals are going well and everything’s looking pretty good so far. I would say the only potential downfall of Kellie’s is that she has the attention of span of a goldfish. Seriously! I say two words and her head is staring out the window, like, “Oooh! Shiny car!” I keep teasing her about that, but we’re having a great time.

I thought everyone did well on Monday. Zendaya was amazing. She’s definitely the one to beat right now. My favorite was Andy Dick. Hearing him being so candid about his past and watching him go out there and dance and do a great job was so moving. I love stories and moments like that. That’s my favorite thing about this show: Seeing a group of new people come in every year — wide-eyed and completely unaware about what they’re about to embark on — push themselves and learn something and go out there and dance. I do think that’s something that was missing from All-Stars. I loved All-Stars and seeing everyone come back and working with Shawn. We had so much fun and did some of my favorite routines, but it’s a different vibe with new people.

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. DWTS Season 16 – Andy Dick’s TV Reunion

According to OTRC, DWTS is giving Andy Dick a TV reunion with the cast of his old show, Less Than Perfect:

Sara Rue, Zachary Levi and other actors who starred on the comedy series “Less Than Perfect” are set to reunite on the ABC ballroom dancing show on Monday, March 25, to support fellow sitcom alum and contestant Andy Dick, OTRC.com has learned exclusively.

This will marking the first full cast reunion since the sitcom ended its four-season run in 2006. Dick played Owen Kronsky, Claude’s friend and co-worker. Check out a full list of “Less Than Perfect” alumni who will attend the reunion:

Sara Rue — she played Claude, who starts out working as an assistant in a TV newsroom, on “Less Than Perfect.” She currently plays Kim on the new Reba McEntire sitcom “Malibu Country,” which also airs on ABC.

Sherri Shepherd was also on that show, so you can expect to see her back in the ballroom as well, along with Eric Roberts.

Vogue ADDING: In other things on Andy. Don’t miss Sharna on Afterbuzz this week. They discuss Andy, the judges, the other contestants and lots more. Thanks to Butterflywhirl for the heads up!

DWTS16 Week 2 Mark Ballas And Aly Raisman Work On Communication, Speed Of Counts, And More

Mark Ballas has written his first blog for Dancing With The Stars Season 16 at USA Today. He writes of what a “joy” this season has been so far. He describes his partner, Aly Raisman, as a warrior, focused, driven, and she has the personality of an angel. This week they’ve been working on communication for numerous reasons. Below is a take about what they are working on for their next dance and the things Aly is struggling with….

This week, we have the quickstep and although Aly is finding the ballroom side of things to be quite natural, she is struggling with the speed of the counts. Also, we have been putting in the hours teaching her how to be more musical.

For a gymnast doing floor routines, the music is kind of ear candy. She doesn’t use accents or counts in that setting, so it’s really just background music. This is something that Aly and I really have to work on in order for her to progress in this competition. She is getting better and better everyday, but we still have a lot to accomplish. At this point, all I can say is that I’m really proud of Aly. She is killing it!

DWTS Val Chmerkovskiy And Zendaya Talk Of Their First Meeting, Their Next Dance, And More

16 going on 30? Zendaya’s maturity amazes me. Here she is with Val on Access Hollywood today talking of their first meeting for Dancing With The Stars. They also discussed their first dance and being at the top of the leaderboard. Zendaya is having the greatest time. Val talks of Zendaya’s biggest strength which he thinks is her personality. Billy and Kit also try and get Val to talk about what’s going on with Maks and if he’s jealous of Val and Zendaya (Uggh, hate that they asked him that? The lengths they go with their questions sometimes amazes me). Val tells them nothing except that Maks is not jealous and that he woke him up this morning and is of great support. More below….

Stay tuned. Their might be a new interview with these two posted soon at RyanSeacrest.com soon as well.

PureDWTS A Shake Up In Las Vegas Odds For Season 16 Week 2 – What Do You Think?

Think of success as a game of chance in which you have control over the odds. As you begin to master concepts in personal achievement, you are increasing your odds of achieving success. ~Bo Bennet on beating the odds

Sports Bovada has posted their new set of odds for Dancing With The Stars Season 16 Week 2. As always with the first dance, the odds get shaken up which they did so again. Though I’m shocked the odds makers are putting Aly Raisman so high. Was her first dance really that worthy of a second placing? However, huge kudos to Andy Dick making a big jump. I think Andy is a better dancer than Sean (and more liked), so I hope to see him placed even higher next week?

Zendaya Coleman 2/1
Aly Raisman 7/2
Kellie Pickler 7/2
Jacoby Jones 5/1
Dorothy Hamill 7/1
Ingo Rademacher 15/1
Sean Lowe 15/1
Andy Dick 50/1
Victor Ortiz 50/1
Lisa Vanderpump 75/1
Wynonna Judd 75/1
D.L. Hughley 100/
1

First Las Vegas Odds to compare:

Aly Raisman 7/2
Kellie Pickler 5/1
Zendaya Coleman 5/1
Jacoby Jones 13/2
Ingo Rademacher 7/1
Victor Ortiz 15/2
Dorothy Hamill 9/1
D.L. Hughley 10/1
Wynonna Judd 15/1
Lisa Vanderpump 20/1
Andy Dick 33/1

Also, and for fun, below are the odds from Wynn Las Vegas currently. I think these are really out of whack and I question if they even saw the first dances for how high they put Wynonna and how low they put Zendaya. 8O Also, shouldn’t Victor and Wynonna be placed more at the end? D.L. should be placed last in my opinion.

KELLIE PICKLER Derek Hough 9 TO 2
ALY RAISMAN Mark Ballas 6 TO 1
JACOBY JONES Karina Smirnoff 7 TO 1
DOROTHY HAMILL Tristan MacManus 8 TO 1
ZENDAYA COLEMAN Valentin Chmerkovskiy 9 TO 1
VICTOR ORTIZ LINDSAY ARNOLD 11 TO 1
WYNONNA JUDD Tony Dovolani 14 TO 1
INGO RADEMACHER Kym Johnson 15 TO 1
SEAN LOWE Peta Murgatroyd 20 TO 1
D.L. HUGHLEY Cheryl Burke 25 TO 1
ANDY DICK Sharna Burgess 30 TO 1
LISA VANDERPUMP GLEB SAVCHENKO 35 TO 1

So, what do you make of this week’s interesting shake up in odds? Let’s see what Heidi and Court think too….

Heidi:  I think that the top set of odds has the first five eliminations right, and maybe even in the correct order, although I would be inclined to switch Wynonna and Victor. But after that it gets really tricky. I think someone they have in the top three is going to get bumped for Jacoby, although I’m not AS convinced as Courtney that he will win. I’m hedging. :-) By all rights, based on last week, those ladies should be the top 3 but I think that Aly will get bumped for Jacoby.  As for the middle of the pack? They feel pretty middle of the pack to me. Of course, everything could change in week 3 when they suddenly don’t have as much time to get a dance down. Since they appear to have changed Derek and Kellie’s dance on them well after they learned Jive, they could be in trouble as well. We’ll see! Oh, and as for Wynn…I seem to recall they got last season right at least in the final week – question is, did they have it right all season long? Your odds of calling the final right is pretty easy – you have a 3 in 1 shot at it.  This Wynn odds chart is just a mess. I don’t think they have a single thing right.

Courtney: Zendaya is good, no doubt, but we still have yet to see whether she whether she’ll be able to break the “Disney curse” – I’d say Roshon was just as talented as she was, and that poor kid was in the bottom two seemingly every week.  Haven’t seen anything from Aly yet that makes me think she’s gonna finish that high – and I still think Jacoby is the only shoo-in for the finale, and the most likely to win it all.  As for the bottom of the odds – I think Wynonna probably has a slight edge over Lisa, but other than that, I think they got it about right. Who the hell knows what’s going on at the Wynn – the fact that they think D.L. still has a fighting chance makes me think they’re smoking the wacky tobacky.  :-)

Tristan MacManus On DWTS Week 2: “another week of experience will be crucial”

A few media things on Dorothy Hamill and Tristan MacManus!! First, Dorothy Hamill tells News 8’s Erin Ovalle in Portland, Oregon that taking on Dancing With The Stars has been “really scary” being she doesn’t know the first thing about dancing. She’s hoping she doesn’t make a fool of herself. This interview was filmed right before the premiere, but, it’s a good one to watch now too. I love how humble she is. You can also see some cool shots of Tristan and Dorothy in rehearsals. You can watch it in full HERE.

Also, MacManiacs.org interviewed Tristan this week. Below he tells us how their second dance (the Jive) is coming along. He also sizes up the cast.

You have the Jive coming up for Week 2. How is that coming along?

Jive is taking its time alright but looking forward to it. It’s a lively, fun dance so happy faces make a difference when it comes to nerves I think against a more straight-faced restricted ballroom hold dance. It’s gonna be a lot faster than last week for sure so I can’t wait to see what Dorothy can do.

There seem to be a lot of very strong contenders in Season 16. How would you size up the cast?

The cast is strong personality wise, and it’s easy to write people off straight away but I’m sure another week of experience will be crucial, and the thick skin will bite back for a lot of people.

So true and I like how he words that!! You can read this new fun interview in full at MacManiacs.org .

Sean Lowe Talks About The Bachelor And Dancing With The Stars On Jimmy Kimmel

Last night, Sean Lowe and Jimmy Kimmel talked about “all things The Bachelor” on Jimmy’s show last night. Surprisingly, Sean and his soon to be bride have still not broken up. If you are interested in that subject, listen to the first video. If not and you’d rather hear what Sean says about Dancing With The Stars, see the 2nd video. Jimmy gives Sean a hard time about some of the “goofy” rehearsal pictures he’s seen in with Peta and more.
