DWTS Season 16, Week 3 – Who Got the Boot? (SPOILERS)
Gee, to think Zendaya won Prom Queen. That wasn’t at all expected. :::rolls eyes::: To make matters WORSE, the judges pick Sean for the encore? This show got off to a craptastic start. Bruno was the best part of that encore.
Anyway, Lisa, Wynonna and Andy were in jeopardy tonight. Lisa was then called safe and Brooke said that Wynonna and Andy were the BOTTOM TWO. For those of you not paying attention. 🙂 Wynonna was then eliminated.
How did we do??
Heidi: Said Wynonna was going home, if not her then DL or maybe Lisa.
Courtney: She had D.L. with Lisa second to last and Wynonna third to last.
Vogue-y: Also had D.L. with Sean next to last.
Winner: Me and Andy. 🙂
Well I guess Andy is not getting the votes. In my opinion, he is the saviour of this predictable show.
Did Tom say something about picking the best storyline dance next week?
Thank God Andy was safe! And the judges *have* to be a little nicer in their comments to DL – low scores, yes, if he deserves them, but be nice – because there is no way that DL should have avoided the bottom two (and Andy in it), but I think DL’s getting the sympathy vote. And Andy’s dancing is *so* much better than DL’s.
I do hope they go pack to the judges picking the encore dance, because val and her winning every week would get old fast.
Thanks so much. I haven’t watched the show yet. I’m about to now. I had to tune in for some spoilers. Yes, I cheat sometimes. 😀
Anyway, I’m just sooo relieved Andy and Sharna made it. I was about to cry watching twitter with them in the bottom two. It’s just not right.
So, one of our readers said if D.L. made it tonight, he’s officially a “Bristol Palin”. I think they are right. uggh
Glad Andy didn’t go home. Who was prom king? And I really hope they’re done with all this twitter crap.
Best part of the results show: Huey Lewis, the Macy,s star of dance and seeing Tristan…
The general concensus on here and most of the press that I have read, it seems everyone is pulling for Andy. I don’t get it.
Right decision of who went home. Loved Wynonna’s spirit but she was one of the worse dancers on the show. Sad to see her go, but parts of the result show I did enjoy in no particular order 1) the wonderful Macy’s Stars of Dance 2) Zendaya running to put the Prom Queen Sash on Wynonna and Jacoby crowing her in the good-bye circle 3) Bruno acting a fool in the encore dance hahaha and surprisingly the men versus women debate… personally I firmly believe that the men have it 100xs easier than the women!
Yay Andy! 🙂
Sorry to see Wyn go but not surprised. PH called it yet again. I’m not sure if people are voting for D.L. or others are just not getting the votes period.
I think TPTB were letting Giggy do some of the camera work. Got a little motion sick during Demi Lovato’s performance. Unless that was purposeful.
Tom called them out on the crappy sound system. 🙂
The Macys Stars of Dance was beyond amazing.
Jacoby and Zendaya as King and Queen… no surprise there.
They should have just replaced Sean with Bruno during the encore if that’s the only reason they gave them the encore in the first place.
Demi Lovato was amazing. As usual.
Kellie and Derek are way too cute. Hahaha. Tom: “How many friends did you make?” Kellie: “Um.. Four” LOL She’s adorable.
Wynonna going home wasn’t a shocker. Surprised Andy was the bottom two though 🙁 Wish people would vote for him…maybe next week with Best Year of Your Life he can touch people more so that they vote for him.. maybe?
And I too heard the “voting for the best story” … umm… ridiculous much?
I am shocked that Sean & Peta had the encore. I would rather see Bruno dancing the entire dance and Sean being in the background.
It is sad Wynonna went home but sort of expected. I think she was trying but she just couldn’t let loose.
I really wish it was DL going home. I agree with #ButterflyWhirl the judges need to be nicer to DL because he definitely is getting the sympathy vote.
@Sandy – yes at the end they did say something about voting for the best storyline. It is is another twitter vote, we know who will win regardless of storyline.
I am incredulous that DL was safe and Andy wasn’t!
I found myself yelling at the tv (something I don’t usually do) when Len said he didn’t go far enough – when asked if he crossed the line in his criticism of DL. Really Len? I am so not a DL fan…and I think he is a lousy dancer…but crying out loud – a judge of Len’s age and experience should know the difference between constructive criticism and mocking. Even with a day to think on it…he still can’t say “You know DL, I didn’t like your dancing…you need to work on your musicality, foot placement, frame and rhythm – but I did cross the line into a personal attack and I apologize!”
Bad form, Len….bad form!
Oh…and I LOVED the guys dance and the Macy’s Stars of Dance…totally cool concept – dancing backwards!
I really think it’s Cheryl’s fan base that’s saving DL. Sharna hasn’t built up a wide fan base yet.
Even though I expected Zandaya and Jacoby to win, I was extremely disappointed when they were announced. Give up the twitter, it’s irritating. Then we have to deal with the encore of Sean and Peta’s mess. Really? Once wasn’t bad enough? And then to top it off, DL gets called safe. I agree, he’s going to stick around just like Bristol always managed. It wasn’t a surprise that Wynona went home and I think she’s probably glad, but you can see Tony wasn’t happy. Very disappointed in the show tonight. The highlight for me was also seeing Tristan and Huey Lewis.
I didn’t catch Tom saying vote for best storyline. Ugh. She’s 16 years old. How can she possibly have the best storyline?
I think there were a few reasons why Andy ended up in the bottom two – one, DL’s getting the sympathy vote, to make up for the judges being “so mean”; two, I think people were rushing to save Lisa and Victor, who were in the bottom two last week, and got overly generous scores this week, and three, maybe people were thinking that everyone else was voting for Andy and that there was no way he would go home (despite the fact he was third from the bottom).
I agree Craptastic start to show – I think the worst I’ve ever seen.
Anyways, I feel bad for Wynonna.
I hope that is the end of the twitter voting.
I enjoyed the male pros dance – highlight of whole evening.
DL being safe cannot be blamed on me… he got no sympathy votes from me this week. I do hope he does take the competition seriously from here on out, however
Someone was comparing DL to Bristol – but Master P also stayed on a ridiculously long time (comparatively speaking) – he survived three or four eliminations. It wasn’t until his total score was an 8 that he left.
I really wish it wouldve been DL leaving he cant dance and he has a crappy attitude. All my votes are now going for Zendaya and Val but I hope Andy starts getting more votes I would hate to see him leave before DL,Sean,or Lisa.
I find it so sad that people seem to be voting these days on the pro and not the celeb. Only thing I can think of that has kept DL out of the bottom 2 is Cheryl’s fans.
I can not believe what they did to DL tonight. Tom’s jokes about him being packed are old but Len was out of line. They basically kicked him last night and did it again tonight. At least they only mocked the Bobsey Twins with the fact they can’t do math. Len was downright mean. Especially for a man who screwed up on the YMCA.
My votes are gonna be going to Andy now. Bottom 2 no more for him.
Thought it was a good results show all around, and although unfortunate, an acceptable result
loved:
– Zendaya & Jacoby doing the Kid n Play
– bruno in all of his hotmessness
– derek & kellie’s very ‘blonde’ yet adorable package
– all male routine & phenomenal Macy’s stars of dance
sad to see anyone leave, especially on not their best note, but wynonna should be proud of herself.
tonight also showed me that quite a few people are not getting votes, or rather, only about 5/6 are.
BLAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Zendaya winning the twitter vote? OF COURSE!!! Who else was it going to go to??? Is she just not getting the votes that count, and that’s why TPTB (Bless them) keep coming up with STUPID twitter votes that only Zendaya will win?????
Sean and Peta getting the encore? Wasn’t having to watch it once punishment enough?
DL not going home? Disappointed. No, Wy did not do well, but her whole attitude about the show was SO much better.
I’m not ready to “get over” the parts of the Results Show that I didn’t like, to start thinking about the (few) good parts.
If they’re really going with a Twitter vote for the best story, then I don’t know what story Zendaya could possibly have. She used one this week with her grandmother. She’s 16. What other story could she have?
Yes, Sandy, I heard Tom say were voting for the best storyline. This season is getting just plain annoying. I want to know what Zendaya’s fans are gonna say when her story is something along the lines of “When I was in fourth grade, one time I got picked third to last in a kickball game at recess. It was the worst thing that could happen to any kid, and those kids were so mean, wanting something that tragic to happen to me!” (come on she’s 16 how much of a sob story can she have?).
Im relieved Andy didnt go home. I was biting my finger didn’t move until Wynonna was sent home. I don’t normally do that. Only when I reallly, really don’t want someone to leave. I wouldn’t mind seeing Andy edge out Aly for the top 5.
Are they seriously going to have another twitter vote or is someone joking??
They really want to make sure the child wins. Having her win all this twitter stuff will make fans of the others stop voting…they might think that twitter reflects voting. It didn’t before but it could certainly make it a reality.
Don’t forget, Zendaya is a teenager, and her fanbase is even younger….. They’re the same people who made Justin Bieber what he is, and is excusing his downfall right now….. I don’t think many don’t think, they just automatically act en masse with whatever their idol says. And, they will understand anything Zendaya uses as her storyline, because they’re “right there” too….
Don’t have anything new to add, the show was crap.
But Bruno in that Team GS clone dance made my life and I definitely want his jacket.
I’m guessing Zendaya will probably say her best year was her joining Disney or something along those lines. Who knows?
I personally think (and am hopeful) that TPTB will realize that Zendaya is going to win all the Twitter votes and either end this Twitter nonsense or somehow just make it so people THINK that some other contestant had more votes than Zendaya even though in reality everyone knows she clearly wins at Twitter votes. (did that make sense? i didn’t know how to word it lol) . Obviously getting rid of this Twitter BS would be the way to go.
Then again.. Last season and the season before, there weren’t many “encore dances” there were just a few the first weeks and thats about it. So who knows if they will even keep the encore dances for long.
I love Zendaya. I am rooting for her all through the competition. However I wanna see other contestants dance in the encore cause they too have great routines (like Andy last week).
oh one more thing about Andy… I think the main reason i don’t want Andy to go besides the fact that I’m liking Sharna alot…. is the fact that he really wants to stay… he is really appreciative and humble and willing and that is gold!!! and everyone loves a comeback!!!
and Dwtsfreak…. i wouldn’t be pissed if Andy ends up edging out Aly for top 5 as well!!! although if you have Aly placed for top 5 and i assume you have Kellie, Jacoby and Zendaya for top 5 then who is your 5th top 5?
They’re doing another Twitter vote? I missed that.
Well TPTB, “That’s Nice.”
I’d have given Prom king to Andy ( if i was the sole decision maker)
A: he deserved it
B: he needed the bonus points
prom queen…. kellie? i mean i love Zendaya and she is an amazing dancer but so is Kellie… and Kellie did stand out last night… so Kellie!
i’m willing to give the twitter thing one more week… if Zendaya gets picked again then it needs to be stopped cause what is the point if it always will be Zendaya!
and I’m sorry but is Andy worse than Sean? why isn’t Sean being called a BAD dancer but Len keeps on calling Andy “not a good dancer” and “not the best dancer”
#23 yo – ok, I totally forgot that I loved all the parts you mentioned. Z and Jacoby were the perfect match, I laughed my ass off. That Stars of Dance performance was absolutely brilliant.
Aside from that, I don’t know if TPTB want Z to win (though at this point, that is the feeling I’m getting cause it looks like she can do no wrong), but they are DEFINITELY pushing harder and harder for the younger demographic, what with the younger, sexier cast and new pros, the Pitbull music video to cross promote, adding the contemporary and jazz dance styles, and now all this stupid twitter contest. I don’t even know why they bother – Z will win them EVERY time. My 12 year old cousin is totally OBSESSED with Twitter because he wants to become famous on it *eyeroll* – and I feel like that kind of kid is the majority of people on Twitter, and that’s exactly Z’s target :/
I don’t know that there’s anything exactly wrong with that, it’s just the ulterior motives and manipulation that I don’t support, because we saw what happened last season.
Who is voting for D.L.? Really? He should at least prepare to leave the competition on a high rather than a low…the past comedians who did bad at least made fun of themselves and had fun…DL is always pissed…I don’t understand how people could feel bad for that bad attitude…
Glad Jacoby & Zendaya got the prom titles, my two favs!!!
@Omar I had Dorothy pegged for winning, and we saw how that turned out:( My favorites are Kellie, Andy, and Zendaya, if one goes home Im rooting for Jacoby. I like Ingo, but I think Aly has a better shot at the top 5. But that podium smile really bugs me. Facial expressions are more than smiling. Follow? I confuse myself sometimes. My favorite 5 are Kellie, Andy, Zendaya, Jacoby, and the 5th flips flops between Ingo and Aly. If this competition was based fully on dance ability, Ingo or Aly would replace Andy. I think Aly has the fans to make top 5, but Im not sure about Ingo and Andy. I wouldn’t mind either of them taking Aly’s spot. Yeah, this makes better sense in my mind
I understand why Wynonna left, but it still makes me sad. She wanted to be there a lot more than DL does.
The twitter thing is getting old fast. And so is the blatant manipulation. I’ll be voting for Andy and Jacoby from now on at least.
And I totally missed Bruno dancing. I left the room because I couldn’t stand to see Sean and Peta dance again.
This might sound harsh but I have to say it and I mean no offense at all to anyone that being said…
The demographic that goes along with Zendaya is the same demographic that started a “cutting” campaign on Twitter and Facebook (My 11 year old cousin-n-law brought this to my attention that also goes gaga for Zendaya) because Justin Beiber was caught smoking pot.
Are they really that hard up for ratings that they need to seek out a group that will basically go ape-shyte over their favorite celebrity? And are they ready for it to backfire on them?
I’m not saying a bunch of teenage and pre-teen “tweens” are going to start cutting themselves and doing stupid crap if she gets tossed or loses a Twitter vote. I’m just wondering if they know the
cluster-get-your-freak-on it has the possibility of becoming.
Well, not a lot of surprises tonight. Just one major disappointment. We get DL and his “Depend”able partner for another week.
The only consolation in that is I don’t think DL is all that thrilled he’s got to endure another week of DWTS 😈 For once CAI is on the right track; give the loser a low score but smile and say nice encouraging things. Can somebody send Len and Bruno a memo to clue them in? 🙄
I think this is one of the “nicer” casts. They seem to genuinely support each other. Hope that continues as the season progresses and the manipulation by TPTB becomes more aggressive.
Absolutely LOVED seeing Tristan again. *sigh* I miss my sweet Irishman.
Gee, imagine that. Zendaya won the Twitter Prom Queen vote. Go figure. I think DL is getting a sympathy vote from the general public because Len is a big meanie! Hopefully, we’ll only have to endure a few more weeks of him.
Cant believe they made us watch that train wreck YMCA number again. Sorry to see Wynonna go but she was really painful to watch last night.
Never really have been a Mark fan, but I loved tonight that he was the only one on the celebrequarium balcony that wasn’t clapping for Jacoby and Zendaya as prom king and queen. Just leaning on the edge, with a sour puss face. Loved it! Mark expressed the feelings of the viewing audience (the ones that are allowed to stay up past 9pm…).
Sueb, I agree with you!
I had a strong feeling that because Len and Bruno were so mean to DL it would backfire and he would end up being safe. Each week I have been giving some of my votes to Andy because he entertains me. I would rather have him stay longer any day over DL. DL has Cheryl for a partner and I am pretty sure like others have mentioned that she is helping him to stay with her fans as well. Now that Len made it even worse with what he said tonight who knows how long DL will be there.
I know Wyn didn’t dance well, but would rather have seen DL go this week. IMO she seemed to want it more than DL does. I am just so glad that I got to see her do what she is best at and that is sing. It would be nice if they brought her back one week to do just that.
I was surprised that DL was not even in the bottom two and Andy was. Andy not only entertains, but he so wants to be there and tries his hardest. I also love Sharna and IMO I think what she choreographs for Andy is so much better than what Cheryl does for DL.
Did not need to see Sean & Peta’s YMCA dance yet again. Once was enough and was hoping since the judges were going to pick we would get to see one of the better dances. Should have known they would have stuck with the cheese. IMO I think Andy is a better dancer than Sean. I will continue throwing some votes his way.
I can’t believe we are going to be subjected to more themes, and Twitter votes yet again. I just wish they would forget all this stuff and let them dance.
Loved Macy’s Stars of Dance.
Okay I held it in last night…but stewed about it all day…if Derek had used the troupe in his dance on any night than when it was a trio or free style…people would have gone wild with anger, called it cheating and unfair. The judges would have been shocked, Len would have been disgusted by the frippery, CAI would have quoted some unknown rule, chaos would have reigned, the scores would have dropped significantly and they sure as heck wouldn’t have gotten the encore dance…geez. OK I am now going to try and let go of my anger….oh dang I forgot this pot is set on simmer so I can stew all week till yet again we have a stupid twitter vote.
its starting to look like Zendaya’s fan base will get her through ANYTHING..bad scores or a bad dance. i’m one of her fans. haha! but i also hope she won’t get backlash from people saying that she is too good for all of this. which will probably be happening as the season goes on. i’m a little glad that Kellie was the highest score of the night cuz it gave someone else besides Zendaya to shine. if Zendaya has this many twitter followers, then does that mean she will win the encore dance everytime? would be nice if she gave away her encore dance to someone else that she thinks deserves it. would that be too lame? just trying to be fair. haha
i’m glad Wynonna went home. it was painful to watch her dance. plus her ongoing statement since she has been on was, “I’m a singer…not a dancer”. oh really? well Andy, Sean, Victor, and Ali are NOT dancers either but they still TRY hard as they can…regardless if they look like fools or not. i think Wynonna wasn’t allowing herself to let loose or be relaxed.
ok i’m calling it. the top 3 will (PROBABLY) be Kelly, Zendaya, and Jacoby. these three have LOTS and LOTS of fans.
Well there goes my drinking game… Wynonna can be her own worst enemy, but I don’t think Tony did her any favors last night.
At first I couldn’t believe that DL and Cheryl weren’t in the bottom two, but then I realized that Cheryl probably connected with a new demographic when she appeared in the Depends commercial.
Macy’s Stars of Dance was the highlight for me for sure..and cheeky Bruno, pretty sure that’s the only reason Sean/Peta received the encore. I wondered if it was the “kiss of death” as it has been in past seasons when the encore performance ended up being the “shocking elimination” especially when Tom sent them back upstairs right after that dance. But, no such luck.
Check that, the highlight for me is reading all the positive and supportive comments about Andy!! I knew if given the chance he’d win ya’ll over.
@RJ
I love Cheryl, but LOL
What difference did the extra two points do for Zandaya and jacoby anyway? They knew they were safe from the start. This is so ridiculous.
She really is getting annoying! I think a good majority agrees with me.
Kellie is adorable with Derek. Wynonna was a lady about her exit, sorry for her.
No Joke Heidi, Tom blurted out, very quickly I might add, at the very end of the show something about choosing the best storyline dance next week. To say that I am disappointed would be an understatement.
I guess, I should just face the reality, that this season, the show no longer cares about this older more mature (that’s saying it nicely!) loyal viewer any longer. I guess you could say that “I have been put out to pasture.”
Cheer up, Sandy! At least we are embraced on this website and that’s half the fun! Pretty soon TPTB will catch on to the fact that people are tired of seeing Zendaya front and center for everything but her dancing. She is a great dancer, but these twitter games have less and less to do with that! At least the advertisers and Cheryl are pandering to our demographic. LOL! 😉 Yes, I jest!
Re Cheryl: Bless her heart! 😉
Thank you Meggie. You Made My Day! 🙂
Lori, #28, you’re right. They don’t think on their own, they do whatever everyone else is doing. I’m thinking someone that is TPTB now has a family member that is in the age group that twitters every spare moment, watches Disney and said, hey, twitter contests would be a great idea! I’ve said before, they need to concentrate on keeping the viewers that have watched the show since the beginning and have kept tuning in even with all of this nonsense. Ratings have already dropped, and if they’re not careful, I believe they’re going to start losing even more of those viewers. The manipulation has gotten way out of control the last few seasons, and long time viewers are not liking it.
And I’m also thinking, that if there is a twitter vote for best storyline, Zendaya won’t win because she is so young. Someone else will, then they have another the following week and she wins again. That way TPTB can say, see you’re all wrong, she didn’t win every time.
Sueb #41, perfectly said!
@Cindy – Give a tweenie access to a phone or a computer… Yikes!
I think the youngin’s would vote for Zendaya no matter what the circumstance. And I would think most of the regular loyal viewers have a favorite pro on the show that they consistently vote for each week, no matter if they tank or not.
The Macys stars of dance was amazing….kudos to that choreographer and those dancers. I enjoyed the all male pro dance as well. Demi’s performance would of been better if they lowered the background sound and figured out how not to completely white out her face from lights during the performance! She has a great voice and i love her new hair cut. I think Peta and Sean were the encore because Bruno wanted to dance and made a point of saying the night before that he should of been in their performance- that was nothing more than a comedic fun gesture from the show, not a reflection of their performance. As for all the twitter pushing…it actually can work against Zendaya. If you are too good in the beginning you tend to lose momentum by week 8, 9, and 10. Lately, DWTS is all about the journey and the story and being number 1 doesn’t always pay off- ie. Shawn last season. I thought she was guaranteed to win and Melissa had a good week 7-9 (alot of pushing of judges as well) and then all of a sudden you could see the momentum switch. Also, maybe she isn’t getting the votes we think she is…never know. Regardless, she is a good dancer and if she won i wouldn’t be mad. She is getting a lot of flack similar to what Nicole S got the season she danced- ie she is a dancer, she knows choreographer, etc. Kellie, Zendaya, Jacoby, and Aly will be the top 3 (someone will end up pushing one of the others out).
Zendaya will win anything that is decided by Twitter….her twitter follower numbers are absolutely huge….and they are kids so they will just do it…..as far as someone else winning the best storyline next week on twitter???…..if someone other than Zendaya wins, it will be because TPTB have manipulated it to be so….cause Zendaya’s twitter followers aren’t voting on who has the best storyline….they are voting for her..period..for whatever…….felt bad for Andy….he wants to be there so badly….he and Sharna don’t have a big enough fan base it appears….DL between getting the sympathy vote and Cheryl’s fans…it’s ridiculous…..and last week Zendaya getting the encore because of twitter….I really wanted to see Andy and Sharna’s routine again…..but this week, the judges pick and we got Sean and Peta???…..I don’t know if I am going to be able to sit through this mess of a season all season long……I’m about done!!!!
Okay, just watched the last 30 seconds of last nights episodes…
Tom said something along the line of “We’ll have 10 couples back next week, tune in as we celebrate the best year of their lives”
Brooke said exactly: “Tune in to vote on your favorite dances and pick the personal story you like best”
We all know how Brooke can get caught up in her words. They didn’t say anything specific so hopefully she’s just referring to regular voting.
I’m already at the point now where if they show Zendaya & Val or Sean & Peta, I just leave the room, especially during the YMCA nightmare! I did love seeing Tristan again and the male pro dance, although I still wish it was just pros and no troupe. Looking forward to the female pro dance next week. And please stop with the extra points and the fixed judging already!
I remember when the show first aired and people were calling in for the favorites using any phone they could get their hands on. Next came the computer votes and people used different computers, log-ons, phones to place votes for their favorite. Now we are in the world of twitter. The one good thing is that you are not allowed to vote for the your celeb of choice to survive elimination. That would be a travesty. At this point, voting for prom king and queen via twitter, to me, is what it is. No one is eliminated because of twitter. I do think that the judges will vote for the encore dance. If, and this is a big if, the show changes to count twitter votes for elimination, then there is a problem. It is not there yet. Frankly, I don’t care about who wins the “best year of my life” or whatever it is. Not that important to me, but I am sure that it is significant to the celeb regardless of their age.
I had to learn to use a computer, cell phone and maybe, just maybe, I will learn how to twitter, if it comes to that. My grandkids can teach me. My philosophy is and has always been, “If you don’t like it, do something about it.”
Glad to see Zendaya and Jacoby win the prom king and queen title. Not happy with Sean getting the encore dance. Not gonna lie, I thought Wynonna would sneak through to another week.
I just reread the Dancing by the Numbers post. It’s early so we don’t really know who’s getting the votes, but I’m surprised Wynonna didn’t get the votes to stay ahead of DL (4350) & Andy (13000). I also didn’t expect DL to get 8700 more votes per Andy. I don’t see Andy winning, but I would like to see him stick around a little longer.
I also really enjoyed the Macy dance. I watched it several times to catch all of the movements.
@Faye – Some good points, but technically, the voting for prom king & queen on Twitter did have an effect on the eliminations – those extra two points could have really helped someone like Wynonna, who was at the bottom of the leaderboard. So in this instance, I’m a bit more bothered by the Twitter voting, because there were actually points involved that could have had an effect on eliminations. The encore? I wasn’t so bothered by that, because it wasn’t as though it had any actual effect on the competition – but I will be bothered by it if every single week turns into “Dancing with Zendaya” because she wins EVERY SINGLE TWITTER CONTEST. I guess my only hope is that a) TPTB start to notice that the Twitter contests are a 1-horse race and stop doing them, or b) her fans tire of tweeting every week for her to win some arbitrary contest and eventually burn out, thereby letting some other contestant’s fans swoop in & win for once (doubtful).
@Courtney-I agree that those two points may have helped someone. With Wynona, I think her dancing and the choreography spoke for itself. The same with DL. I commend the celebs for putting themselves out there like they do. That is something that I cannot do. My point is that the bad dancing and choreography is being seen by the public. Those two points, in my feeble mind, should not be a reward for bad dancing. DL is awful and that does not even begin to explain him. I just feel that if it is not good dancing, and this is a contest, that it is time to go. As long as Len, Bruno and CAI decide they can belittle and desparage the effort of DL and others and to overscore others, this show is going to continue to be a hot mess. I know I don’t like to see anyone belittled. There are people who are voting for DL that are just pissed off with the judges. I have yet to vote for anyone this time around. Just waiting to see how this all shakes out. I stopped watching the All Star season because of the “BS” and I will stop watching the parts that I do watch if it continues.
I heartily agree with everyone on the “tweeting”. I’m in the older demographic, but I do have a twitter account. I am also a fan of Zendaya, I think she is a remarkable young lady, and she doesn’t need this extra bonus of a zillion twitter fans. She’s doing just fine with her beautiful dancing and “wise beyond her years” personality. I don’t want her to win every twitter contest. That’s beyond “no fair”. Please pay attention,DWTS suits. Can the twitter stuff. It’s getting old fast. 🙁
Love the player…Zendaya…hate the game…Twitter voting
I was glad to see Zendaya and Jacoby win prom queen and king, but like many of you, I hope this whole twitter thing stops. I don’t have twitter and according to what others have said here, many don’t either. I like Zendaya and she seems like a nice girl, but I don’t want to see her winning everything especially if someone for example, were to deserve the encore dance more than her in the coming weeks. The judges should be the ones to pick the encore dance.
That being said, I did not agree with their selection last night although I did like seeing Bruno dancing in it. I also enjoyed the cool Macy’s dance and the male pro dance. Seeing Derek and Tony battling each other made me think of how they were the last ones to face each other for the mirror ball trophy last season. Don’t ask me why I thought of that, lol.
As far as the elimination goes, I agree with Wynnona going home because she really did not dance well. However, I seriously thought that DL would be in the bottom two and that he would go home instead. I hope he doesn’t last longer on the show than Andy.
TPTB want to get Zendaya’s fan base watching the show and the best way to do that is by using Twitter. The kids get to participate in voting on Twitter, and then tune into the show to see if Z wins, like the Prom Queen vote. Her popularity is also helping Val gain followers and putting him in a very positive light as a pro. They still come out ahead in the end if gets the show the younger viewers and gets Val and Z more followers. Comparing D.L and Cheryl to Andy and Sharna I see a few things. Cheryl, doesn’t have to Prove herself like Sharna does. Cheryl and D.L are relying on her fan base to save them. She knows D.L can’t win and I honestly don’t see her making the efforts Sharna is to put on a good show. Sharna also knows Andy won’t win, but she is Driven to stay as long as she can and to make herself and her partner look as good as they can and to Entertain the viewers! Attitude is everything, and Sharna and Andy have a much better attitude IMO. I also think that the judge’s comments to D.L aren’t getting him sympathy votes, so much as they are getting people voting for him out of curiosity. I am curious to see if he is improving each week and if he is going to stand up to the judges overly nasty remarks. His storyline seems to be evolving into one of an underdog who learns to stand up for civilized comments and not personalized attacks from the judges that demean one’s efforts. Actually, I’d really like to see Cheryl stand up to the judges on behalf of her partner. With Maks not there, they really need someone to remind the judges in a civilized, mature manner that not all the contestants have dance experience and not all of them are going to make great strides, but like CAI said baby steps!
I really hope that was the last of the twitter voting this week because Im seeing ppl. get turned off by her because of it and really isnt her fault more the producers and i want her and val to go all the way.
I do agree that the two extra points were a waste as they don’t make any difference to Z or Jacoby. I truly don’t think they would have saved Wynonna. But if Lisa, Victor, or Ingo, anyone from the middle of the pack had gotten them, then the competetion could have been made more interesting and the points would have actually been helpful and not wasted. I get that TPTB want to improve their ratings, but at the same time I hope THEY also get that they really are in danger of alienating their most loyal fans because of it.
If you all think only teenagers use twitter, then your favorite dancers will never win any contest using twitter. I’m nowhere near being a teenager and I use twitter to vote for Zendaya for prom queen. She was the best dancer on Monday and deserved to win. These ‘teenagers’ are voting for her and not just on twitter. By that same analogy, would you say that Jacoby won because only teenagers voted for him? Come on!! I was cheering for Peta and Sean, but he doesn’t seem to improve. My votes are now going to Zendaya.
They could have a twitter vote called “Who do you think is the oldest on DWTS” and Zendaya would win that as well. Why it really pisses me off is that Zendaya MIGHT have won without all this manipulative crap (and she may not have because twitter often doesn’t translate to voting)…but the audience seeing her win every single twitter contest every week will do one of two things: Vote for their favorite HARDER OR stop voting altogether because they will see it as a lost cause. I think the former scenario – voting harder – has a pretty short self life before it turns into the latter and people give up.
IMO, this twitter bullshit is a subtle way of making sure that Zendaya gets to the end. The bad thing is, it could cost someone else actually winning the show – this win will be tainted if it’s Zendaya. I can’t believe TPTB really want people to stop spamming their website with votes – they get cash from that as well. But maybe someone at ABC/Disney has huge plans for Zendaya and she needs to be on the radar (and win) as much as possible.
Really, Zendaya is a good enough dancer that she could have won without all the bullshit. But by adding all this CRAP, they have effectively spoiled her win and made it seem like a farce.
Bruno’s dancing was so much fun; I loved his “hotmessness” as yo#23 described it perfectly! I also love Derek & Kelly: they are just plain yummy in every way; I still hope she wins this thing. I loved the all- male dance routine but the camera work made me dizzy. But of course, all I really wanted to do was watch the best dancer, ummmm, yup, Derek.
Amanda, please point me to where anyone said “only teenagers” use twitter. Please get off your high horse and read all the discussion about twitter and why this is a bad idea. Jacoby won because he has a huge fanbase. Zendaya won because she had a shit ton of children as twitter followers with nothing better to do. That does not equate to “only teenagers use twitter” unless you’re five.
And no, Zendaya was NOT the best dancer on Monday night to everyone. It’s not a fact, don’t state it as one.
3 weeks in and Zendaya winning would be a farce…LOL
Use your brain, yo. Seriously.
Oh I am, and you know what i discovered?
If I like someone, I vote for them. If I don’t like someone, I don’t vote for them. Who woulda thunk, nobody isforcing me to vote for them
It’s not working. If you can seriously read what I wrote and all you get out if it is one line and none of the other logic employed, and then find yourself compelled to comment in such a way? Perhaps you better refrain from commenting because it’s making you look bad. Like you’re thinking with your fangirl brain.
That is quite possibly true, but im not the only one guilty of that
….and we thought the All-Star Season was a hot mess! Season 16 may give it a run for its money if they keep up the twitter voting and the stupid “themes.” As one of my friends said after last night’s show, “Well, it’s good to know who will be in the Finale. I can stop watching now!”
Loved Tom calling out the crappy sound system. Problem is, they keep encouraging the crowd to stand up, clap and cheer during the dances, regardless of how good or bad the dance might be.
Personally, it looks like the pros are just as confused as the fans and some of the celebs seem to be phoning it in—I’m looking at you D.L. and
Sean!
The twitter stuff is overblown, IMO. Take a closer look at Zendaya’s followers and you will notice many of the accounts are fake. I don’t think she trends more or less than any of the other dancers after a performance. If the number of followers is supposed to have real impact, how do you explain Jacoby winning the twitter contest when he has the least number of followers of all the contestants remaining? I think the core fans of DWTS and the fan base of the celebrity who take the time to vote will ultimately determine the winner, not twitter followers.
With the way things stand right now, I’ll probably quit watching if Andy goes home before DL. I agree with what #blonde said–Attitude is everything. While Andy isn’t the best dancer, his dances leave me smiling and happy. I love his and Sharna’s vibe.
I’m hoping to see Zendaya, Kellie, Jacoby, & Andy in the top 4. I’ve enjoyed their dances and feel good after watching them. Any one of them could win and I’d be happy.
…and then there is this info:
Meanwhile, Dancing with the Stars is taking a hit due to the competition. The dancing show still had slightly more total viewers than The Voice (13.7 million vs. 13 million), but Dancing hit a series low for a performance episode, which has got to hurt.
I will say in defense of the ratings since DST has hit all shows across the board have taken a hit, that’s normal though. Demo numbers have never been that great but #2 for the night isn’t bad. I never thought casting Disney “stars” would ever help the demo numbers, since its primarily watched by viewers 16 and under.
The choice for Encore Dance had nothing to do with Sean/Peta. That dance was 100% ALL ABOUT BRUNO 😉
Right now you appear to be, Yo. Most of the Derek fans said before the season started that he was unlikely to win again and I don’t see any Jacoby fans stamping their feet when people complain he’s likely to win because of his huge fanbase. It’s Zendaya fans that can’t seem to separate the disgust that many feel for what TPTB are doing this season from Zendaya herself. They then proceed to react very emotionally. Did you miss the part where I said that Zendaya is good enough to win without the bullshit? Or did you see the word “farce” and think I was picking on your beloved?
Lurker, even if HALF of her followers are fake, that still leaves her with a million followers. She does indeed trend more than the others with Kellie in second place and Aly in third (for the women).
And you miss a very key point about Jacoby – he is ONLY competing against the other men in terms of followers, not the women, for stuff like Prom King. Then look at the men he’s up against and you see that he is the young and popular one, and the others likely have fanbases that coincide with the demo least likely to use twitter…much like that which watches DWTS. Add in the passion of football fans and voila. That’s why many of us have said he’s going to win the whole show. Comparing him to Zendaya is about as apples and oranges as you can get.
And AGAIN, we’ve had MANY discussions about how twitter followers do NOT determine the winner and often doesn’t indicate anything at all – until you use twitter followers to give more face time to one contestant. This isn’t about the ultimate winner, it’s about who wins the stupid voting every week. If someone wins the voting every week, however, it may be cause for the core fans of DWTS to stop voting because they would be inclined to believe that the winner IS going to coincide. It’s a psychological game.
I agree with all of guys! If Andy and Sharna go before DL ,ingo, Sean or Lisa I will be pissed because they are so entertaining Sharna is killin it this season with choreography and Andy wants to do well and he is improving! He shows how much he wants to be there and be a better person through the experience is so heart warming! I want those two to go far! Love them.
@Grant – I totally agree. I was throwing a few votes to Kellie and Derek each week, but Andy needs all my support now. So all my votes go to Andy and Sharna now.
And as far as DL, putting his atrocious dancing aside, he just seems like a horrible person.
#87 Carrie Jane—you got that. The encore was all about Bruno. And..I can’t believe I am saying this but I wish Bruno had done the entire dance with Peta. But then poor Sean, bless his heart, would have to admit he can’t dance.
I am excited for next week. The weakest dancer is still there but the second weakest got eliminated. This is fine in my book. Now D.L. needs to go next week (foxtrot + D.L. = Probably a bad one for him). The encore made me LOL. When I saw Bruno wasn’t there I had a feeling he was part of the dance and boy was that worth it. Could we get Carrie Ann on the dance floor this season next? That I would love to see. The pro dance was really entertaining. Derek, Tony, and Gleb were the standouts for me. As for prom king and queen, I figured Zandaya but king should have been Ingo in my opinion (most improved out of everyone…..he is absorbing their critiques like a sponge). As for Wynonna, as my grandmother said from week one “She is not getting past week 4”. She was right.
Now, as for Cheryl and D.L. this week (and this is purely my opinion) she really seems shocked that her and D.l. are surviving each week. If I had to guess, she is probably trying to work around his lack of dance ability (as do most pros who get a celeb like that) but even that doesn’t seem to be working. I hope he gets better but if Andy or Lisa gets eliminated at his expense I would be annoyed.
I can see Andy outlasting D.L if you are going strictly by Dancing entertainment. But like someone said on here earlier, not everyone votes for the best dancers and people are apparently voting for D.L as he has yet to be in the bottom two. But Ingo and Kym should definately beat Andy and Sharna because Ingo has more dance talent AND both he and Kym have larger fan bases than Andy and Sharna. Even Lisa and Gleb I believe can beat out Andy, because she too I believe has more dance talent than he does and she and Gleb are equally if not more entertaining than Andy and Sharna. Gleb also is just as driven as Sharna to prove himself as a pro. Plus I don’t think Lisa has anyone rooting against her like Andy has do to his past.
Premature to deem any victory” tainted” IMO.. plus, despite our differences in who our favorites are.. we all pretty much agree that whomever gets the most votes at the end, rightfully wins it all..favorites or not
It looks like DWTS producers has found their controversial star this season in DL. It’s obvious they like the media attention their getting from the whole DL vs. the Judges fiasco. Last night results pretty much proved it with Tom questioning Len, Bruno and DL in the open like that lol. Cheryl seems excited, I said she should take DL to the third or fourth week. It looks like she did that, and might be going further with Lisa and Gleb doing cha cha next week. Her and DL should do okay with the slower foxtrot. I can see how Andy ended up in the bottom two. He seems to be taking this too serious and Sharna is pushing him a little to hard, their rehearsel package seemed stressful. Victor looks so awkward when he dances, and Lindsay is quite annoying. I had high hopes for this pair, now not so much. I’m surprised by Jacoby, he just keeps getting better each dance.
Geez, That’s too much for me to read.
+1 Sandy
No, Natalie, we don’t actually agree about that at all and don’t presume to tell us that we all do. If you think that, you’ve not been reading and that is VERY rude.
Which is why I deleted it, Sandy. Until Tracy learns to talk about the topic and actually hit return in the right places, then her posts are going to be deleted…if they show up at all.
About the twitter thing and how it affects ppl psychologically as PH said and otherwise…I really think the pros are also very aware that things that might have been pitched to them to “improve” the show or maybe they were just told, have had time to hear from their fans and study the situation. If you look at the skybox after Zendaya is announced as the prom queen, you should notice several things,Mark and Aly lookin at each other not smiling and at least Mark, looks pissed Derek standing next to them, also NOT smiling looking concerned. This is conjecture on my part but there could be several reasons for their concern. Both knew Their twitter followers were half killing themselves tweeting for Kellie + Aly, also knew their followers know how huge a mountain they were trying to overcome with Z having over 2 and a half million followers. So then they also were aware just how pissed their followers are and prob also feel really bad for their partners knowing they will never have a chance againt Z. These are 2 very smart guys when it comes to this show so thy are prob also concerned and wondering if they should continue to encourage the tweeting or just tell their fans to VOTE because the other is hopeless. They have to be concerned if ppl see Z win this week after week that ppl will just stop voting and they are right to worry. i’m hearing it all around me even tho I keep trying to explain to ppl that the twitter vote is not indicative of the regular votes (or at least wouldn’t be if ppl just continue to vote)Why can’t this sow ever stop screwing things up. And last nights show other than Andy making it and the male pro dance was just disgusting and pointless on so many levels.
sorry…show not sow(tacky keys!! lol)
So, I was trying to give Sean the benefit of the doubt. But that was way-worse-than-Andy dancing. I couldn’t believe he wasn’t getting lambasted by the judges. And whatever class Peta had during her season with Donald Driver, she seems to have completely lost.
Not a dance comment, but… Cheryl with the Depends. In the commercial, the smarmy guy asks her to wear Depends for charity. my question is, what charity does whatever money is made by her wearing depends go to? The Cheryl foundation supporting Cheryl?
Beka, I suspect Sean is still in the honeymoon stage with the producers, so they probably want him to remain as long as possible. It equals promo for the Bachelor/Bachelorette franchise.
Raine, most of what you are saying is reasonable and rational…but remember TPTB are not reasonable or rational. They seem to be making decisions on what they think, that fans should think and we all know how that turns out…case in point…can you say Anne Curry, or how about when Conan took over for Jay Leno. The issue isn’t about the individuals like Conan or hate Conan, love Anne or love Matt….the issue is TPTB in those situations thought they knew “the future” feelings of fans better than what fans knew at the time…so ummm that backfired in their faces…lol. Now we seem to be having a repeat of that same kind of issue on DWTS. I think it’s called the arrogance of power. DWTS forgot who their date was for this dance that made them popular…will they act in a reasonable and rational fashion and rethink their decisions, consider perhaps they aren’t doing the “best” thing….highly doubtful…lol! Too bad though. This is simply my opinion, but I along with many of you seem to be asking the same questions about being reasonable and rational.
Ouch! Still in mourning over Wy but hope she can separate the experience gained from the loss. I know she will, I just hate to see her feelings hurt. 🙁
It looks like Cheryl did that commercial as part of a charity event sponsored by Depends. Two football players (Denver and Dallas) also participated. Dress For Success helps disadvantaged women by in part giving them a suit for job interviews, it’s an international charity and I think well enough known. I had heard of it several times before.
I’m not a Cheryl fan and I know she’s thought to be somewhat of an endorsement whore but I don’t think this is what it is at all in this case. And I believe Depends is trying to take the shame out of something. Too many people suffer with incontinence for a variety of reasons, especially as they age. Neither of my parents do yet, but they may well soon enough. Also, even younger women often do from problems with child birth. When I worked in a nursing home we didn’t call them diapers for obvious reasons of human dignity.
I noticed Derek’s and Mark’s expressions in the balcony too, and I agree, they are too smart for this show. TPTB are not only turning away viewers, but they could be getting to the pros too. Some of them could be getting tired of all the nonsense and decide they don’t want to do the show anymore, which would result in a lot of new pros. I don’t know about anyone else, but if too many of favorites leave, I sure won’t be watching.
I agree with Vogue, Zendaya is a good dancer and she would probably have enough to win without all this going on. IF she wins, it will be tainted to a lot of people because of it.
I kind of think that Derek figured out most of this shit some time ago and made a couple conscious decisions – one was to use the show to showcase some great choreo AND choreograph interesting dances for his partners, judges be damned. The other was that he liked the show for what it brought to TV and that he liked being a part of it, so he wasn’t going to let the crap get to him. He’s said numerous times that he loves that show and he seems to be, over all, a very positive person. It seems like there’s been a change in how he approaches the show. He’s know what it’s about for a long time, but this seems different – he seems lighter.
But everyone has a line. I noticed their faces too and I don’t know what to make of it. Maybe they are reaching their lines.
I wouldn’t judge anything off of Mark or Derek’s faces when the cut to them in the sky box. Zendaya and Jacoby weren’t there so they already knew ahead of time that the two of them had won. The reactions that they showed weren’t their instant reactions to them being King/Queen. Yes, I agree that the pro’s probably don’t love this twitter things like us, but I don’t think we can base how they may feel off of a random shot of them.
Tristan, Henry and Anna were on the Afterbuzz show last night. A young fan wrote in and asked Tristan and Henry to follow him on twitter. The host mentioned that Tristan didn’t tweet very much at all. His response was to laugh and say, “I’m busy gettin’ on with life”.
So there you have it. I wonder how he feels about the tweeting contest! lol!
Heidi (#110) you are spot on. Not sure exactly when it happened – but Derek has changed his focus from trying to please both the judges and the audience – to being single minded about showcasing his partner and entertaining the audience. Smart man! It is a crazy maker to try and figure out how they are going to react on any given week. I heard him being more vocal about it last season…but I think he came to terms with it long ago.
I appreciate that he can be so positive and genuinely LOVE the show – but not be overly influenced by the apparent whims of TPTB and the judges. I too see a lightness in him that seems to allow him to enjoy the process regardless the external shenanigans.
His intensity only seems to show up when he is working out his choreo…or trying to get his partner to “up their game” and be as good she can be. Those are things he can change/influence…clearly he knows that anything he says about TPTB/judges will not bring about change and is choosing to not get down in the mud and muck with them.
Jess #108, thanks for providing helpful context on the Depends commercial. I see it in a different light now 🙂
Jess – I agree with Faby. thank you for clearing up that there is an actual charity thing involved. I wish they would say that on the commercial. It would be more supportive and less smarmy.
cheryl, as a spokesperson doesn’t help. I find her smarmy most of the time on her own. I had to guffaw when she was trying to persuade that the men have it so much harder than the women in the competition by saying that the men score lower “look at my partner, we got all 4s the first week!!!” my internal response was that proved nothing but that the judges were being fair on that one.
To the ladies of PUREDWTSland, I had been missing the taste of cheesecake. Thank you for bringing it back!
Actually, I think they do say it on the commercial as well as putting the link to their facebook page for more info. Up here in Canada, Isabelle Brasseur, gold medal figure skater and PJ Stock, hockey player and commentator do the ads and I think I’ve seen one with Lisa Rinna, but I might be wrong on that.
