Derek Hough Executive Produces “Dance Rivals” for GSN
Another series in development for Derek – I guess when we don’t see him it doesn’t mean he’s idle. 🙂 For those wondering, this appears to be a reality show and is NOT the same as “Blackpool” which is a scripted drama he’s doing with Julianne for Starz. Also, Derek commented in an interview recently that he and Julianne were working on a live Vegas show – but then he shut up real fast. 🙂 From Deadline:
ORIGINAL SERIES IN DEVELOPMENT
DANCE RIVALS
The hotbed of dancing in the United States can be found in an unlikely location. The population of Orem, Utah is only 84,000— yet one in 40 is a dancer. Several of Orem’s dancers have gone on to win regional, national and world championships. But succeeding in Orem isn’t easy. The city is home to two of the most elite dance studios in America, each owned by a fiercely competitive and hard-driving dance instructor. The studios are just a stone’s throw from one another…and the owners used to be partners! Needless to say, the rivalry between the dance studios and their owners is as fierce as the competition among the dancers. Each week, the studios participate in dance competitions and each week they fight for 1st and 2nd positions—always with the ultimate goal of triumphing over the other. DANCE RIVALS is produced by H2R Productions with Derek Hough, Christian Horner, Adam Rosenblatt and Jamie Rosenblatt serving as Executive Producers.
Wow, this is going to be so cool! And same with this “Blackpool” and the Las Vegas show!!
So like dance moms but only better!!!! But with no moms and basically my world! I love it can’t wait to see this! And for America to see the hard work Latin ballroom dancers put in! Derek is on top of his sh*t nowadays! EXCITED!!!
Pretty sure, the 2 studios will be CenterStage and the Vibe (home of Lindsay Arnold and Witney Carson). Most of the Vibe kids went to CenterStage (Houghs, Chelsie) before Vibe was built. I think Louis Van Amstel teaches at CenterStage and Mark Ballas teaches at the Vibe. Check the Ballroom Battle episode from a couple years back of Louis vs. Mark, those are the 2 studios.
You can tell what the studios are by looking at Derek’s @replies at the time he was shooting the pilot. Lots and lots of dancers tweeted pics with him.
He’s one busy man. And smart too, to be so diversified. Lead in a movie, scripted TV, unscripted…producer…Vegas show. Like women who create rolls for women, if there aren’t opportunities make them. He’s making a lot of opportunities for a lot of dancers. Best of luck for all the things going on!
This sounds very cool! Wow, Derek is doing it big this year. I love how he’s taking his time and being very selective in what he does outside of DWTS. He has a movie coming out, Executive Producer of a scripted show w/Julianne and now producing a dance rivalry reality show. So proud of him and so excited to see these two shows.
He is so incredibly talented. I hope he gets that Emmy this year. He so deserves it-IMO!!
Good luck Derek! That is so cool!I sure hope he gets to choreograph and dance too! His skills are amazing.
Derek is so ahead of his time it’s mind blowing! He knows DWTS has limited time left and not only has he ALWAYS represented this show extremely well, he is now ensuring that dancing remains in the spotlight with all these incredible projects coming up! Like someone in an earlier post wrote, he is creating alot of great opportunities for his fellow dancers.
As Executive Producer, he gets to do about anything he wants, I think. But I don’t think he’s going to be on camera at all on either TV show. I could be wrong.
PH, have you heard any more about when his movie is coming out? It seems like forever since he made it.
Third quarter of this year, supposedly, Meggie. They’ve also changed the title and finally have a trailer. It does seem like forever, but the good thing is, if they didn’t believe in it they would just go straight to video.
Good for him! He’ll be the Ryan Seacrest of the dance world!
