DWTS 16, Week 5 – Power Rankings
Well, side-by-side challenge night went about as well as can be expected when you put complete amateurs (well, and a ringer or two…) next to seasoned pros with years of experience under their belts. If nothing else, it let us see some sorely missed pros doing what they do best 🙂 The judges have made it pretty clear at this point who their favorites are (ZENDAYA, Kellie, Jacoby, & Aly), who they are lukewarm about (Sean & Ingo), and who is disposable (Victor, D.L., and unfortunately, now Andy), and seem to be scoring accordingly. And dare I say that many of the pros came out dancing at full throttle…but noticeably slowed down and calmed down when the celebs joined them on the floor? No bueno. And god bless Tom for soldiering through what had to be a tough night for Bostonians 🙁 Let’s get on with it…
1.) Zendaya & Val – It was a good dance, and I was actually impressed with Val’s first venture into Argentine tango choreography – and thankfully, he seemed to eschew the multitude of lifts big bro seems so fond of, and put in some good basic steps. Zendaya handled pretty well, and I liked the jewel thief storyline – I was worried they were going to go more the smut route, which would have felt…icky. But this was appropriate 🙂 So that was the good – now here’s the bad: I don’t think it was 10-worthy. Sorry kids. Once again, I find myself just fixated on how BENT Zendaya’s legs are – yes, I am aware she is tall, and yes, Argentine tango is usually done with a flexed knee. But girl was damn near SQUATTING – and consequently, it made her upper body look that much more flimsy when they were in hold. I hate when tall people (male or female) try to compensate for a shorter dance partner – it almost always looks awkward, and you don’t get the full impact of their lines. I say stand up straight and forget about who’s taller – the bf has 2 female students that have a good 3” on him in heels, and when they’re dancing to the full extent, it’s MAGICAL…their legs just go on forever. You don’t even worry about who’s taller, because the lines are so gorgeous. So with that said – these two are obviously safe (and thankfully, there were no Twitter machinations this week to tip things in their favor), but I do think Zendaya’s legs will continue to be an issue in the coming weeks.
2.) Kellie & Derek – I’ve always loved Derek’s foxtrots, and the Broadway quality & character they have to them. This was no exception – great side-by-side, playful choreography, and Kellie seemed to handle the sweeping motions of the foxtrot well. She seemed to get a bit stiff in her neck and shoulders at a few times, which looked a bit awkward, but other than that, she handled this routine well and I liked watching her do it. I think she probably came the closest to mirroring her pro counterpart tonight – and I think she has Derek to thank for not dumbing down the choreography, because in most of the routines, the pros went from dancing full-on, difficult steps to dancing simple, kindergarten steps without much energy. It gave me whiplash, at times. But the transition in this one felt seamless – the way Kellie was keeping up, it felt more like another pro couple joining Henry & Anna on the floor, rather than “Oh sh*t, here comes the celeb, better slow it down…NOW!” So even if Kellie “doesn’t like Derek’s ways” – I think it was those “ways” that probably helped her look so good tonight. 😉
3.) Jacoby & Karina – This jive tonight makes me think more than ever that Jacoby is gonna win this thing – I know I’m not the only one that saw shades of Donald in this routine 😉 It wasn’t as clean as Donald’s, or quite so exuberant – but the vibe was there, and he attacked the choreography without fear. I think Maks & Anna may have had the most fun of any of the pros that danced with the celebs tonight – they seemed to be having a ball doing their jive together, and then there was pure comedy as the boys chest bumped…and Maks went flying across the floor 😛 Yes, I know Jacoby’s got bad feet – hell, Jacoby knows Jacoby’s got bad feet. But I really don’t care, because I was more entertained by this dance tonight than all of the others. Yes, he could have gotten a bit more height on his knees and a bit more bounce overall – but again, I don’t really care, because I just had so much fun watching it. And at the end of the day, I’d rather look at a dance and say “That was messy, but fun!” than “Gee, that was boring as hell – but the technique was great!” So there 😛 Once Andy’s gone, Jacoby’s got my vote…
4.) Aly & Mark – I think these two should feel very, very lucky that they’ve got the judges on their side – because this samba was really not worthy of a 25. I MIGHT have given it a 23, because Latin is clearly Aly’s Achilles heel: the poor girl just cannot get her hips, knees, & feet moving the right way. I dare anyone that doesn’t believe me to watch this samba in slow motion – her feet are almost always pointed in (PIGEON TOE ALERT!!!), and as a consequence, her hips get stiff, and the signature samba bounce that SHOULD be coming from the core is really just Aly raising & lowering on her toes. Not good. And really, they did the girl no favors by picking Witney as the female pro for her to be compared to – that girl OWNS the samba, and came out dancing full throttle. And then, of course, she suddenly got tired, and moved a lot slower and smaller when Aly hit the floor. Way to make it obvious, guys 😛 I’m really not sure what to make of these two – part of me thinks they’re getting the votes, part of me thinks they aren’t, and part of me wonders if Aly is more disposable in the eyes of TPTB than Zendaya. Will be interesting to see when the judges decide to drop the hammer on Aly…
5.) Andy & Sharna – To anyone that complained about how “cruel and mean” the judges were to “poor widdle D.L.” – I take it you are also outraged by how they treated Andy tonight, amirite? You should be, because I think some of the insults they hurled at Andy tonight (for a dance that really wasn’t terrible, IMO) made some of the stuff they said to D.L. sound downright tame. This is another dance where I didn’t really give a hoot ‘n’ a holler whether Andy had good technique or was on-time or had a good frame – I knew before he even set foot on the floor that he wasn’t suddenly going to look like Sasha’s mirror image (although I thought he did a damn good job of trying, and actually matched Sasha pretty well for about the first 20 seconds they were on the floor together). But I was ENTERTAINED by the dance, just like I was Jacoby’s, and I thought he did a great job of getting into character and actually seemed to stay on-time and handled the steps reasonably well. Cape work is deceptively easy-looking, but like Andy said – if you don’t grab it in the right place, you’re toast. But he went for it – and somehow, he ended up with the same score as D.L., who just stomped around the floor for a minute & a half and STILL couldn’t manage to stay on-time? Poppycock!!! I don’t know if they think the “go really hard on the celeb in order to generate sympathy votes” strategy will work to drum up votes for Andy or what…but I sure hope it will. I just love these two.
6.) Ingo & Kym – And just when you think Ingo can’t get any more awkward – he does 😛 I’m sorry, Ingo fans – he is just not a natural mover, and that became painfully obvious during this cha cha tonight. That was some really, really dumbed-down cha-cha choreography (I assume it was an attempt to conceal how bad he was), and Kym was clearly backleading tonight – and poor Ingo was just stomping around and gyrating awkwardly. He seemed like he really tried, but he took a few steps back this week – and I’m sorry, but his constant negativity about how he dances is starting to get off-putting. Dude, take a page out of Andy’s book and embrace the fact that you aren’t a great dancer – and then just have a ton of fun. Once again, I’m not sure what to make of these two – can’t tell if they’re getting a slew of votes or not many at all, I think Kym is a little off her game this season. And I find myself just kind of forgetting them. Guess we’ll see in the coming weeks, as we lose the cannon fodder…
7.) Sean & Peta – Noticeable improvement from Sean this week – I don’t know what Peta did in practice (or what Tristan did, hehe), but Sean seemed to move with more ease this week. Admittedly, I don’t really remember a ton of this routine, and the only notes I really made were “improved, but a bit stilted still”, but the fact that it was much better than that painfully awkward Viennese waltz last week was good enough for me. And oddly enough, I don’t find myself quite so put-off with these two these days…I still think Sean’s kind of a dork, but at least now I don’t think he’s a conceited dork 😛 Not much to add on these two – he did better than last week, but 24 was probably a bit generous…maybe a 23. He could be bottom 2 material this week, but if not, then definitely next week…
8.) D.L & Cheryl – *shrug* What’s the point of even saying anything? I just say the same thing week after week: he barely moves, Cheryl does all the work, and yet he still gets decent scores for how little he does. This tango was really just walk, walk, walk, stomp, walk, walk, walk, kick, walk, walk, walk, flail. Lather, rinse, repeat as necessary. And even with quite possibly the most rudimentary tango steps I’ve ever seen, he still couldn’t stay on-time. I give up – this guy should have been gone in week 1. Do people not see that he’s NOT improving…like, AT ALL? I seriously hope he’s in the bottom 2 tomorrow night, because this is just getting hard to watch.
9.) Victor & Lindsay – Poor Victor – he gets cheated on by his girlfriend, does a pretty decent Viennese waltz, and still gets the same score as awkward Ingo that can’t cha-cha to save his life. Yes, I think these two were underscored – I thought Victor actually kept up pretty well tonight, didn’t get off-time, and managed to clean up his shuffly footwork a bit. I think they probably got lucky in having Tristan, as he seemed to be the pro that took the greatest pains to not outdance the celebs tonight. Got a little suspicious of that slow dip that Lindsay did during the sax part of that song (which I love, BTW), since it made me think of a Mandy Moore jazz routine done to that same song on SYTYCD, but overall, I think the choreography she gave him made him look pretty good, and they should be applauded for that. But they’ve just been in the bottom 2 too damn many times, and they have kind of become…forgettable, I’m afraid. But it’s been a nice ride for these two, and they lasted much longer than I thought 🙂
So I guess with all that said, it’s gonna be Victor & D.L. in the bottom 2…and if not D.L., unfortunately Andy. But I still think Victor goes home no matter what. But what do you guys think? And are you hoping as much as I am that Jacoby gets the encore he so desires? 😉
It seemed to me that these dances were pretty long (I’m just counting the side-by-side and the celebrity dancing part).
Zendaya KILLED it! Tons of content executed sharply.
Jacoby was on time perfectly, it was just feet that looked funny…reminds me of bigfoot.
Andy did OK…he had a few stumbles, but it was better than D.L. How is D.L. still getting votes?! We’ll see if it changes tomorrow
I’d switch your 1 & 2 but agree with the rest! Heck ya give Jacoby the encore! Maks danced really well too! he sure can shake it!
Oh I don’t know.. DL will likely be saved by Cheryl
Fans so I’m gonna go with Victor too
We had company and so got to watch only 1/2 (actually 5/9’s) of the dances so far, but I do have one comment about something that drives me crazy!
Carrie Ann called out Victor and Lindsay for a very inadvertent “lift” in one of the twirls of their dance. Peta had Sean totally lift her at one point – nary a word! Aargh, as the pirates say.
Loved Tristan and Chelsie’s quickstep before Sean and Peta took over.
Well it’s obvious the judges love Zendaya. The choreo was better than Maks lift heavy tangos- I actually saw some Derek-esque AT moves in there. She is obv a good dancer but she looked like the hunch back of Notre dame. Didn’t love this dance. Kellie and Derek’s dance was great- I agree that her side by side was the best of the night. I think Derek benefited from having Henry help choreograph a great gatsby-ish foxtrot since he did just teach the real Leo Dicaprio a step or two. Loved Jacoby’s jive- the energy was great and was fully entertaining. Not sure what my beef is with Aly- she is just so, blah for me. Hated the choreo (not sure what’s up w mark- and his costume designing is terrible.) I think it’s victors time to go- seeing the old pros made me realize Lindsay is not ready to be a pro. Loved seeing Anna- she was fab or even Emma.. But I see a demotion in her future!
Well the side by sides weren’t as bad as I thought they might be. I also thought the dances were long.
I loved Kellie & Derek’s foxtrot-they did an awesome job.
Liked Zendaya & Jacoby as well.
Those were definitely my top three – the rest were as you already said.
I’m thinking it will be Victor going home and agree the bottom three will be DL (he needs to go), Victor & Andy.
I’m still a little iffy on the whole concept of the Side-By-Side challenge… Anyway.
Ingo & Kym: Oh my gosh. This was way over scored, I thought. Andy was miles better than this. Ingo is just Negative Nancy all the time, and if he doesn’t change his attitude soon, he’s out of here. You can’t do this show and constantly put YOURSELF down. What’s the point of even going on the show if you’re doing to focus on the negative all the time? Homeboy needs to get it together.
Jacoby & Karina: Aside from the fact that I had to run through about two or three Little Richard songs in my head before I finally figured out which one it was (seriously, they all sound the same), what was there not to like about this dance? I mean, yeah, I knew his feet were going to get him in trouble, so I was almost expecting another set of triple 8s for this, but I’m glad CAI and Bruno scored him on entertainment factor. I hope he gets the encore, because I’d love to see this Jive again.
Victor & Lindsay: I’m with Court on this one: Victor was underscored on this dance. I think he had a vast improvement on last week (mainly because he remembered his choreography this week). I was expecting this Viennese Waltz to look super awkward and not do Victor any favors. I’m glad I was wrong! I can see him going home tomorrow, sadly. I don’t think he should go, but he’s likely on the chopping block this week.
Aly & Mark: Maybe it’s because I like the song, but I didn’t think this samba was all that bad. I mean, I hated the outfit (again) and Aly lost her balance fair amount of the time. I do think it should have been at least three 8s. The 9 felt generous. Also, I saw Aly’s non-musicality show up again in this dance. Some of her movements were definitely off time and awkward looking. But she’s got nothing to worry about tomorrow.
Sean & Peta: Okay, first things first: I didn’t see this song being used as a Quickstep at all when I heard it from the troupe number maybe last season? lol But it surprisingly worked, and I would have to agree with Len that it was definitely his best dance of the season. I’m glad Sean’s not going to win this season, otherwise I’d be pissed at how highly they scored him tonight. Also, the copying Tristan thing was so lame. He’ll be safe, but probably put in Jeopardy.
Kellie & Derek: Aside from the hideous wig she was wearing tonight, Kellie shined in this Foxtrot. I love, love, love this foxtrot. Derek is just a genius with every dance he choreographs. This was her first ballroom dance of the season? Sure as hell couldn’t tell.
D.L. & Cheryl: No.
Zendaya & Val: Can I just say how unreasonably excited I got when I heard the Sherlock Holmes music? Like, seriously, I love the soundtrack for that movie, and this song worked so well with the Argentine Tango!!! However, I was worried about this dance all week. In hindsight, it probably should have tied with Kellie in terms of scores, but I saw the 10s coming after the two of them finished. I loved the jewel thief thing too, and the ending part with Anna and Zendaya was super classy, I thought. This was probably my favorite dance of the night, and I’d say probably 70% of that is due to the music. 😀
Andy & Sharna: God bless these two. I agree with Court, the judges were kind of rude to him. I was almost expecting a “Gay Blade” comment. Maybe there was one, but I didn’t hear it. lol I think, as I said, was miles better than Ingo or DL. Like, he kind of lost the cape thing at the end, but really? All three of them thought he was on the same level as DL tonight? Whatever.
I totally agree with everything you said. I honestly found myself forgetting that Lindsay and Victor even danced when I saw Lindsay’s dress in the background after Zendaya danced and said “who wore that dress tonight?”
I thought Andy handled his choreo better than D.L. because Sharna actually challenges Andy (as well as making it very entertaining! I love her choreo) and D.L. I just get embarrassed every time he talks (is this just me?)
Jacoby, Kelli, and Zendaya are my top 3 – with Aly trailing in fourth.
my guess is that Victor goes home considering his history in the bottom 2 but I’m hoping it’s D.L. because hes just painful to watch at this point.
OH- and I hope Jacoby gets the encore. Even though his score wasn’t the highest, his dance was the most entertaining and seemed like he was having the most fun (as well as Andy)
but part of me thinks Zendaya will get it because she got the first 10’s of the season but lets hope it’s Jacoby
Tonight was better than I thought!
Ingo – Thank heavens he went first; this was a pain to watch. Poor guy just can’t shimmy without looking awkward lol. I knew this dance was gonna be bad for him but it kinda was worse than I expected. 21 IMO was very generous. A 19 or 20 would have done.
Jacoby – I liked the dance. I still don’t understand all the hoopla about him as I don’t see him as super entertaining as other people. He is however, likeable which is good and is definitely going to get to the finals. And of course he’ll get the encore cause he mentioned how bad he wanted it 😛
Victor – I actually think he did much better this week. The dance wasn’t as awkward as I thought it was going to be. He seemed very fluid and I overall liked it. Thought it was deserving of some 8s (much better than his Contemporary too).
Aly – Idk for once I kinda liked Aly and I kinda liked this dance a little (not just because the song is my favorite song ever and not just because I apparently am the winner of a Mark Balls goodie bag for guessing the song they were gonna dance to — yay! lol) . I admit though it technically didn’t look as good as it should but something about her kinda made me like it.
Sean – He improved a lot. I knew this dance will be more of his forte and I’m impressed. Good on ya Sean!
Kellie – GORGEOUS. This girl is a beauty. Not a fan of the wig but everything else was precious. I too love Derek’s Foxtrots and this was no exception. A few mishaps but still think it was one of the best of the night.
D.L – Pretty much agree with Courtney: walk, walk, walk, stomp, walk… yeah.. someone please make him go home. Please, I beg of you…
Zendaya – ZenDAYUM is back! W.O.W. I loved it. I thought she did so good! The Argentine Tango is my favorite dance and I thought she killed it. I didn’t notice anything with her legs cause I was mesmerized by the passion and the storytelling. I guess if not two 10s, maybe one but really.. wow!
Andy – God I love him… It obviously wasn’t technically good but you can’t ignore the fact that he really tries and really puts in the effort. He is just incredible to watch even if he messes up, I don’t care! GO ANDY!
I think Victor might be going home too.. though I wish it was D.L.. Also think they might put Ingo in jeopardy just to give the man a wake up call to stop being so damn negative.
Stevie Wonder night, huh? Thought they were gonna have a whole night dedicated to the show’s 300th episode but guess not. Stevie is still the man though so next week should be fun 🙂
I though Zendaya more than deserved her 10’s. I thought their dance was the best of the night. Val choreographed in perfectly. Actually I enjoyed all the dancing tonight. The celebs seemed to like having 3 pros help them with their assigned dances. And I loved seeing Maks,Anna, Tristan, and Chelsie. After all the horrible happenings today, I think we all needed to escape for a few hours, and DWTS did that for me tonight. Great show. No complaints.
Great rankings as usual Courtney! I pretty much agree on a lot of points, and I found myself saying the same thing in many instances.
Zendaya & Val- Fabulous dance here. Zendaya managed to handle the passion and sensuality of the Argentine tango remarkably well. I also think this was excellent choreography from Val, especially since it was his very first (still totally forgot he hadn’t done that dance before!)). Maks & Anna were of course amazing. Zendaya was crisp, sharp, and passionate. The lifts were great as well. I do agree that her knees got a little bit TOO bent in spots, especially in the slower sections. Her knees/legs were really the only thing that kept this from being 10 worthy to me. I give these two a 27. I hope the judges don’t continue to overscore them though.
Kellie & Derek- Just lovely and amazing. This was easily my favorite dance from Kellie yet, one of my favorite foxtrots I can remember, AND probably in my top 2 for favorite dance so far this season. Bruno hit the nail on the head when he mentioned how this was Great Gatsby-like. It was the exact same thing I thought (and I recently just read that book, fresh in my mind :D). Kellie NAILED the elegance and sophistication of the foxtrot, Derek’s choreography was amazing once again, and Henry & Anna were stunning as well. She was smooth, light, had pretty good posture, good footwork and lovely lines. I do agree that her upper body did get a little stiff in spots, but I definitely loved this. 27
Jacoby & Karina- Yes, Jacoby’s feet were messy as hell, but I still LOVED this dance. Full of energy, Jacoby can still move well, and all four of the people out there were just having a blast. He seriously needed to point his feet and he needed way more bounce, but I still really enjoyed that. I did like his rumba a bit more though. But oh well. 24
Aly & Mark- There were parts of this dance that I liked, others made me slightly cringe. Aly seems to be really letting go, and week by week I’m seeing more of her personality come out. She had a fun, light, carefree energy out there, which was great to see. I think her placement as well as some of her lines were very solid and very good. But her major problem in this dance wasn’t WHERE she placed things, but HOW she placed them. Courtney’s right, her legs and toes pointed inward, which is a no no. Even though she really managed to get some decent hip action, and a little bit of bounce, neither came out quite right because of how she had things placed. I’m hoping that those are tweaks that Mark can fix soon, because it’s what’s hindering her the most in Latin. That said, I did enjoy this overall. 23
Andy & Sharna- I totally agree that Andy got raked across the coals for a dance that was actually decent. Was it great? Of course not. His arms were funky and he did get a bit stiff. But he managed to capture the feel of it well, stayed on time, and executed it with decent clarity. And I had a blast watching it. I hope they stick around! I give Andy a 22.
Ingo & Kym- These two hit a slight slump for me tonight, especially compared to their mini-breakthrough last week. Ingo definitely tried, there was some good energy in some spots, and there were small moments of greatness. However, he did end up being a very awkward mover in this. Sometimes when he hit the hip action, you could tell how uncomfortable he was with it. As a result, this dance just kinda ended up being a bit of an awkward mess in spots. Some of the things he did with his arms and parts of his footwork were good, but this did need a lot more work. Hope they come back strong next time! 21
Sean & Peta- I gotta say- I really enjoyed these two tonight! This was by far Sean’s best dance and I really loved the feel of it. The work they must have put in (as well as more pros coming in to help) really benefited them. He was far lighter on his feet, he was having fun, had a good frame, and stayed on time. I did like Peta’s choreography too. At first, I was feeling “Meh” about them, now I am actually starting to warm up to them. I kinda hope Court’s wrong about this, I kinda want him to stick around over DL, Victor, and maybe even Ingo. Anyways, I give these two a 23.
DL & Cheryl- The improvement I’m seeing in him is very slim. But he still isn’t not even near good enough to really deserve to stick around IMO. I didn’t have a distaste for him tonight, because I did like that he was determined in the tango and I liked the vibe of the dance. However, it was really stompy, he lost timing, and I felt that he didn’t deserve the same score that Andy got (really I think Andy was the underscored one). 18 sounds good to me for these two. I will honestly be upset if he sticks around again. I can’t even think of one reason why he should stick around over anyone else. Not one.
Victor & Lindsay- As wrong as I want you to be here Courtney…I’m afraid you’re probably right. Unless people just feel no longer inclined to vote for DL (PLEASE let it be so), Victor’s track record of votes is just not good at this point. Anyways, I liked it. Sucks the circumstances that he’s having to go through, but I think he pulled through well. He cleaned up his feet, had better frame, and got the feel of the dance really well. On the fence between 22 and 23.
I for one actually really enjoyed the night overall. Nice improvements made, enjoyable dances all around, people had fun, and there was lots of good dancing. One of the challenges I would welcome back. I find myself liking things like instant dance, trio, and side by side a lot more than theme nights. I feel that theme nights detract too much from the actual dancing. The challenges, on the other hand, still focus totally on dancing, but add that twist the producers want.
It was a pretty good night. I liked seeing Chelsie, even if she wasn’t on much. I didn’t mind the extra time Henry got on the show either. 😉
I don’t mind if Victor and Lindsay go. He doesn’t have the skills and she doesn’t have a top lip (just saying). I really hope Andy is safe. He and Sharna have brought us some unique dances this season and I’d love to see more. I’m anxious to see tomorrow’s results.
This challenge/gimmick actually turned out ok in my opinion. Allowed us to see more of the pros and allowed for creativity without ruining the dances.
Kellie & Jacoby were my favorites tonight. Entertaining dances and the choreography stood out from the others. Not surprising since Derek and Karina were the pros behind them.
Kellie was definitely smoother tonight and more fluid than she has been. Really loved this dance and agree with Courtney, great side-by-side, the section didn’t feel dumbed-down and the way the extra pros were used in the whole dance was terrific, best of the night to me.
Jacoby does have feet issues but otherwise I think he has just so much charisma and quality to his movement. I love watching them each week and hope he gets the encore!
I did enjoy Zendaya as well. But I agree with Courtney again and her reasons. I was expecting a tie with Kellie, not two 10s. It wasn’t a ten, her body looked a bit like limp noodles in a lot of places to me where it should have been stronger and filled with more tension. Her performance level was great as usual and the choreography was good too. I enjoy her every week but I just didn’t agree with 10s here.
Love Andy and love what he has accomplished on the show and how it has helped his personal life. I do think tonight was a bit of a mess but I did love the entrance too. I don’t want him to go yet.
Aly again was just ok. She’s better than a lot of the others. She is bringing the sass, that isn’t the major problem, though they try to focus on that in a lot of the packages and interviews. There really are just technique and some timing issues. She doesn’t move with ease, a lot of it always looks like work to me. I thought she was overscored too. I am waiting for her to get better and it’s not happening, or only in very small doses. I just haven’t been wowed yet and Mark’s choreography has been surprisingly stale. And I’m just going to say it….maybe we can stop saying that gymnasts would be ringers? Those who can’t tell the difference between a Shawn and an Aly, well, not sure what they are watching.
Everyone else I just don’t really care about one way or the other. They are either mediocre or bad. I do think Victor was underscored a little. I would have had him and Sean tied at 23 or maybe Sean a point lower even.
DL just has to go next. That doesn’t even resemble actual dancing. Then as long as Kellie, Jacoby and Zendaya are in the finals, I won’t argue too much with the leaving order of the rest. I do just hope Aly and Andy outlast the others.
I thought Jacoby’s was the most fun and entertaining, I definitely hope to see it as the encore. That unassisted jump was amazing, but just in general he exudes so much charisma and joy when he’s dancing you almost forget about the pidgeon-toes.
And really, that’s a problem with the way he’s built, being pidgeon-toed is in your DNA, it’s not like you’re just choosing to slouch when you are physically capable of standing straight. Pidgeon-toes can be improved with work, and I have actually seen some improvement with him, but it’s not easy. And I don’t think it can be completely fixed, but he’s doing a good job working around it. I’ve been really impressed this whole season with Karina’s choreography, she’s really making the right choices to showcase his strengths and minimize his weaknesses.
Loved Kellie’s dance, I liked how she handled Derek when he was getting testy. Derek’s imitation of her was adorable.
I think Zendaya would be better off wearing longer skirts, when she wears shorter skirts the awkward coltishness of her legs is more obvious. There’s no question her technique is great, but her legs sometimes look awkward because of the was she’s built. You don’t notice it as much with longer skirts hiding some of the thigh.
Sean actually improved significantly from last week. I’m not a fan, but I give him crredit for doing something different this week. Maybe he needs Tristan in the rehearsal studio every week.
I worry for Ingo, he looked very awkward, and I don’t know who’s voting for him. If anyone could be a shocking bottom two or even exit tomorrow, I worry it could be him. He needs to not say everything he’s feeling. Others may hope they just skate through in a week they have a dance they can’t get, but you don’t share stuff like that to the audience. He may be bummed he’s not doing well, but you don’t talk about it ad nauseum. For the cameras you need to be upbeat. As an actor I thought he’d be better at turning it on for the cameras regardless of how he actually feels.
I didn’t think Zendaya deserved those 10s even though you knew they were coming. Her legs just looked weird. There’s no way they were going to point that out because they are ready to crown her. They compared her to Anna. We all knew that comment was coming, too, but still.
Kellie and Derek deserved at least one 10 from those idiot judges. That foxtrot was wonderful. I thought I was watching an old MGM musical. And Derek’s Kellie impression was great
Either Kellie or Jacoby should get the encore but it’ll be Zendaya. Ugh.
Zendaya was awesome, looked like a professional dancer out there (oh wait she is a professional dancer.)
Jacoby killed his dance and was the most fun for me to watch tonight but… I know he is the king photobomber of the season but I thought it was so lacking in taste and inappropriate when him and Ingo were goofing around and making faces while Aly was paying tribute to the Boston victims. There’s a time and place for that and a little decorum would have gone a long way.
Almost forgot, while I give Sean credit for improvement, I thought it was absolutely ridiculous that Len gave him the same score as Jacoby when Jacoby’s dance was so much better.
I highly doubt Andy is in the bottom tomorrow; it took me a full 40 minutes to get all 9 of my votes in for him, because most of the time I couldn’t get through. If he wasnt pulling as many votes in previous weeks to put him in jeopardy, I think he did tonight.
I know we only saw a short clip of whitney with helping to coach ally but it seems like she would be a better pro then lindsey.
D.L. should go, but I’m afraid it will be Andy or Victor. I wouldn’t mind Victor leaving, but I’ve actually grown a little fond of Andy.
Derek and Kellie – Wow, what a stunning stunning, delightful, and charming dance. Huge huge kudos to Derek’s choreography! As always he brings something different and fun to the dance floor. I’m glad he was hard on Kellie and made her dig deeper. I bet she was glad too he was because she brought it and rose to the occasion. So beautiful and fun too. 29
Zendaya and Val – I just loved the theatrics of this dance. The choreography was outstanding. The choreography with each couple intertwined with one another…so creative. I especially loved the way each guy carried and spinned the girls at times. Just beautiful. Damn and Maks reminded me of why I love him so much as a dancer tonight too. The passion was off the hook and he was totally into it all like he use to be in the early days. 29
Jacoby and Karina – OMG, what was that? They were truly on FIRE! Jacoby danced with the best of them!!! What an entertainer he is!!! So quick, full of energy, and fun fun fun. He totally hammered it. The jump over Karina at the end was A-MAZING! I want MORE! 29
Sean and Peta – Wow, Sean! He was much better tonight. His technique was better and he was quick and light on his feet. Very charming, lot’s of personality, and fun. He was finally relaxed and in the moment. Much MUCH better. His best dance so far. Hilarious package too! 24
Aly and Mark – Ok, this was actually much better than I thought it would be. Aly seemed to be more relaxed and having more fun tonight. She seemed to lose some steam at the end and lost her character and concentration sometimes, but, over all, I liked it. Her best dance so far and one I finally liked some. 22
Sharna and Andy – Yes, there was some power lacking in this Paso that it needed, but, this dance had the entertainment and fun factor in spades. I was floored with the opener. I loved the cape throw at the end. Very clever. I just love this couple so much. 21 (I agree Court. The judges were just awful too him. So rude!)
Ingo and Kym – Awww, Ingo is so hard on himself and I don’t know why? Yes, there were some stiff parts, but, there were some really fun and confident parts that dominated. As always, I love his faces and how he had fun once he got out there. I agree that he has the “flair” and the “character” down, he just needs to be a little quicker, but, I liked them as always. 21
Victor and Lindsay – Other than some sloppy foot work, a few stiff parts, and missing some steps, he was better than last week. He also seemed to lose character a few times and something is still lackluster or disconnected about them, but, over all an ok dance. 20
D.L. And Cheryl – What bothers me about D.L is that it seems he always just walk through his dances instead of dances. It felt more like he was marching in a band than dancing a tango. Though I did like that he’s having fun and relaxed more with it. 18
I think it will be Victor and D.L. in the bottom two with Victor going home as well. He and Lindsay are unfortunately too forgettable. Plus, I think he’s mean to her.
Zendaya won’t be getting the encore. She already got it in week 2 and it’s still too soon to get it again. It’ll definitely be Jacoby or even Kellie (i’ll take Kellie’s over Jacoby’s)
I didn’t even remember DL, just a bunch of sex jokes. Andy wasn’t that bad. I’d give it at least a 22. I mean really? 18? Whats up with that? And to Mark: my favorite quote ever “Imperfection is beauty, Madness is genuis and ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS IS BETTER THAN ABSOLUELY BORING!” – Marilyn Monroe. Remember season 12? How you went”Forget the judges, Im gonna do what I want.” ? Do it again. Please. You and Aly will be so much more memorable.
This season just seems more clear cut who should be the top 4 more than in recent seasons for me. The men (minus Jacoby) seem to be really inconsistent or are making very slight improvements each week. Everyone one is right about ingo needing to be more positive and have fun with the dances. He doesn’t seem to have a real desire to be there. I’m voting for him still but that may change (loving Andy and Sharna).
Loved Emma and Sasha’s paso and Chelsie and Tristan’s quickstep parts. The dresses Chelsie wore for the quickstep and tango were very Peta and Cheryl. Interesting styling especially the tango undie dress.
@Tumbles I noticed the same thing of Jacoby. But he wasn’t listening to what Aly was saying while he was making the faces. You can see that someone I think told him that Aly was talking about the Boston incident and then he was like “oh crap! sorry!” and hiding his face.
Thanks, Tumbles, for proving my husband’s prediction correct. He noticed that Jacoby was making his usual faces until he realized what they were talking about and quickly stopped. I had previously told him about some of the criticism he’d been getting online and he said “I bet someone criticizes him about making faces even though he stopped when he realized what Aly was talking about”.
Courtney I agree with you Victor is forgetable and he most likely will be in the bottom if he is not it will shock me
Andy did do a little better this week
Zendaya deserved the tens though she is awesome
Was not feeling Kellie tonight but she is still a good dancer
I bet Zendaya or Jacoby gets the encore dance
I m betting that D L goes home if he does not this will truly shock me to the core
CC, how much would you like to bet?? 😀 Seriously – Maks dancing with Val and Zendaya?? That’s their two big pimpees in one dance.
I thought Zendaya did a great job. For me the music absolutely ruined this AT tango. It was the weirdest AT music ever even though I like the jewel heist, it went on too long for me. I had to tune that out and watch the dance but music was a detractor for me, not their dance. I did not think it was 10 material but was very good. Her long limbs do make it hard to be precise. Val is tough on her and she takes it very well. That impresses me. I know she is a dancer by trade but she is only 16 and the way she takes his tough comments is admirable. She has so much poise. She is a classy girl. Jacoby is growing on me. I love is energy and think Karina is doing a great job with him. With his height, he could look really akward and I haven’t seen that yet. The card game was great fun. She needs to watch that they don’t keep over-doing that knocking your knees move like he is in end zone. His posture to me is poor and his pigeon toed feet really look bad at times. No toe point. The guy pros were right in sayig the male celebs get away with more bad technique and trade on entertainment value when they take their shirt off and show personality. Femail celebs are held to a higher standard. I love Karina’s choreography. The best dance of the night was Kellie’s foxtrot. Playful and elegant. Kudos to her for hanging in there and mastering an absolute choreographic gem. I saw Donald O Connor in the waddle move, smooth, personality and fluid grace. She knocked it out of the park. Derek blogged he had a very busy schedule with other projects this week and was on over-load work wise, had to choreograph a very tough pro opening number for Tuesday’s show and Kellie missed 1 day of rehearsal going to Vegas. He is human and I think she handles his “tough teacher” behavior so well. He isn’t the most patient always but he never fails to get the absolute best from his celebrity and make them look amazing. That is an art and a great talent. All his past partners love him so he is doing something right. The one thing I would like Kellie to work on his the strength in her upper body. She doesn’t have the ramrod posture that Maria had and Maria was a much less talented dancer. I know he is working everything, especially feet but occaisionally I seee the upper body isn’t had rock solid as a female pro. For being a complete non-dancer, I think you could really see how very difficult this dance was for her. I love that she is growing and improving. Kellie has musicallity, charm and natural talent by the truckload. She will go far in this competition if she can continue to conquer her nerves and D’s occaisional lack of patience.
My favs for the night Zendaya Jacoby and Andy and as much as I would love love love for Zendaya to get the much deserved encore I hope its Jacoby for the simple fact I love watching Maks do the jive IMO
Lol Heidi that is a good point.. Hmmm.. We’ll bet next time. Now I’m having second thoughts also.. 😛
Love reading these posts. I always go back and watch the dances again with your perspective in mind. I thought Zendaya was good but not great. I agree she didn’t deserve those 10’s. Liked Kellie’s foxtrot. I really enjoyed Jacoby’s jive; it had me smiling throughout. With that said, I gave the majority of my votes to Andy. I haven’t been voting all season, but I’ll be damned if he ends up in the bottom 2 again with no voting on my part.
I’m really not feeling Aly. I was a massive Shawn Johnson fan (Seasons 8 & 15), and I was ecstatic that another gymnast was going to be on this season. I was really looking forward to seeing what Mark could do with Aly. I have yet to be impressed by any of their dances. I admit, I don’t know enough about all of these dances to be looking at footwork, frame, etc., but some of her movements looked downright awkward.
I too don’t feel Aly, even when she has a good week (last week), and I didn’t think this week’s was that good and was a tad overscored. I’m not sure why she’s not grabbing me, maybe I just had expectations that were too high because of how good Shawn was? She’s just a lot more stiff than I was expecting for a gymnast. Maybe if Zendaya wasn’t on this season I’d have a higher opinion of her, but she’s paling in comparison to her? I feel almost bad that I’m not into her because she’s definitely one of the better dancers on the show and she seems like a perfectly nice person. But I’m just not feeling her, sometimes someone grabs you or doesn’t and you really can’t explain why.
Yeah, Aly seems perfectly nice, but she just sort of fades into the background personality wise. That could cost her in the end.
@NancyM – I guess I did have high expectations because of how good Shawn was. The thing is, I really want to like Aly. I just can’t get into her dances. I’m disappointed in Mark’s choreography. There’s nothing there that would make me want to go back and rewatch it.
1st off, loved the opening number. Was extremely excited to see Derek and Karina dancing together (perfect match), then really confused when she danced with Maks. But Lacey’s number was sick (as they always are)!
And mod ladies! Don’t know if you guys noticed, but I saw a MYRIAD of reused costumes tonight – at least seven or eight!
Zendaya & Val – I’m almost certain Val did AT with Dasha at Maks’ birthday bash. That’s beside the point. This dance was AWESOME. Except Z won’t straighten her legs either (which makes any one of these dances look ugly, because ballroom is all about extension), and it bothered me how her shoulders tensed up (I got flashbacks to everyone reaming Ricki Lake for the same thing – but that somehow didn’t happen). I definitely saw Derek choreo in here, and absolutely ADORED the heist theme! I always love seeing something different.
Kellie & Derek – I see Derek freak out over choreo, I gear myself up to see a brilliant dance, because D is batting a thousand when he acts like that. And I didn’t know Henry was working on Great Gatsby, but that’s so funny because that’s exactly what I thought! Probably it was Henry and not Derek because D looks exactly like Leonardo DiCaprio LOL…anyway the beading on her dress was incredible and Kellie kept up BEAUTIFULLY, except her upper body did get pretty stiff (probably cause of that awful wig). But more than anything, I love the way they work together.
Jacoby & Karina – her abs are sickening. And most of the time, I’m screaming “G**DAMN IT JACOBY, WING YOUR FEET!!!!!!” but hot DAMN, was that an incredible performance! On all four dancers’ parts!! Jacoby matched Maks so well (though I do think I saw him fall off time just for a second), the choreo was fantastic, and all four of them danced like kids in a candy store.
Aly & Mark – good GOD, is Whitney gorgeous! And Tony and Mark are the best dance couple ever. And Mark is the girl. I love that song, but Aly’s footwork was horrendous (worse than Jacoby’s LOL), her legs didn’t straighten once, she just jumped through the entire dance, but they told her how great her technique is. Propping much? And I took that dress as a personal insult, it was so ugly.
Andy & Sharna – I knew they were dancing to Zorro as soon as I saw them, because their paso outfits looked exactly like Karina and JR’s. The dance itself didn’t make much sense, I feel like, but Len just sucks as a person.
Ingo & Kym – erm. That was difficult to watch. And when he said he wanted to skate by and go unnoticed, my first thought was “that is THE fastest way to get eliminated on this show”. If all the dances had gone like this one, side by side night would have been a total disaster.
Sean & Peta – I liked it until Sean and Peta got on the platform. The whole point of the quickstep is that it freakin TRAVELS. And I don’t think this dance was as good as the judges said it was. All I could think was “Bachelor wedding!”
DL & Cheryl – here’s an appropriate time for that song “The Boy Does Nothing”. And I love dirty humor, but more often than not, DL should just stop talking.
Victor & Lindsay – he got cheated on and danced nicely. That’s literally all I remember.
Lol Tony, I had the same reaction to the music. I love movie soundtracks, so I IMMEDIATELY recognized the Sherlock Holmes music and applauded. Producers, you’ve done something right 😉
That being said, I agree with Court on Zendaya’s AT. I don’t know if it was because I was fully prepared to be blown away, but it was just really underwhelming. I’m not sure what the purpose of her keeping her head tucked was? When you watch Anna and Maks, they both have their necks stretched and backs arched and then you cut to Zen and Val and…she has her head lowered. I did love the storyline though, with Anna and Zen playing thieves.
I thought Kellie’s foxtrot was lovely and very graceful, but does anyone else get the sense that Kellie seems to lose steam throughout a dance? I mean, it’s understandable in energetic dances like the jive, but the foxtrot? I don’t know. I expected her to match Derek’s energy near the end, when they segued into the Broadway-ish portion of the dance, but she just kind of walked through it.
Jacoby…I was entertained, I’ll admit, but I’m going to be a downer and say I wish there had been more jive content. I spent the entire dance waiting for kicks and flicks and when they finally did them, Jacoby seemed to lack energy. And yeah, the feet bothered me.
I think I may have had too high expectations from the three chart-toppers. But I did like this week infinitely better than Prom Night, so you know, things are improvin’.
And since they’re bothering me, I’m going to list the recycled costumes. And it’s always nights like tonight that you can see what a perfect dancer Karina really is. (And rewatching her dance with Jacoby, I haven’t heard the ballroom erupt like that in…well, EVER!)
Opening number – almost all of them. When did Cheryl wear that dress? Was it her cha cha with Levy? Though I’m almost certain it had been green instead. Karina’s was her big top jazz dress. Kym wore the spicy little romper she’s worn 10 different times. Anna’s jive with Drew outfit. And probably Peta’s too.
Emma’s vwaltz with Lindsay and Victor was Karina’s slow waltz dress. With some stoning modifications, yes, but definitely the same skirt.
And it wasn’t a recycle, but Anna’s foxtrot gown was absolutely STUNNING.
Chelsie’s tango gown may have been Karina’s gown from when she did the Dark Waltz with Tristan. Maybe not, because Chelsie’s was low cut and Karina’s had a rhinestone t strap for a turtleneck.
Zendaya and Val, wonderful job tonight. Hang in their DL!!!
Re: Zendaya, I feel like I noticed some of the same issues with Erin Andrews. I’d have to go back and watch her A tango, but my memory is she kind of looked like she was squatting and not stretching too. Concerned about looking to tall or too leggy maybe? *shrugs* I thought the theme was clever, and IMO Val is doing a good job choreographing for a 16yo.
When I finally got to see the show – bless the West Coast feed on the satellite! – I’m happy to say that I enjoyed the hell out of it! And that’s above and beyond the stellar performances of my two faves, Maks and Anna. They were TERRIFIC!
Zendaya and Kellie had the dances of the night for me, with an honourable mention to Jacoby – especially for that freakin’ leap! WOW!
I find I really enjoy the side-by-side idea. And I think it helped all of the celebs to get another viewpoint, especially from a pro of the same sex. 🙂
Oh, and the Jacoby/Sean arsing about while Aly was making her dedication? Mark made a sign behind Aly’s back for them to cut it out – Sean caught it and shushed Jacoby who looked pretty devastated. I’m certain neither of them were listening and didn’t realise what was going on.
I didn’t think tonight lived up to the hype, at all.
I thought Victor was most improved and I believe he deserves to stay over DL and Andy, but I don’t know if he can win over Cheryl’s fan base, or Andy’s for that matter. A dancer he’s not, but he brought a smile to my face tonight.
I love sweet Aly, have from the beginning. She has definitely improved but she still over-thinks. I don’t think she’s going anywhere quite yet so I hope Mark can continue to get her to relax and believe in herself. I have no idea how the votes are going this season, but I would love to see her topple one of the chosen three for a spot in the finals.
Kelly and Zendaya did a great job and Jacoby was entertaining, but none of tonight’s dances were, in my opinion, memorable. As good as the pros were in the side by side dances, I thought they were overpowering. I almost felt like Maks and Anna were competing too. Tristan was my favorite.
And, what a shame that the judges had to lose their cool at the very end with Andy. I felt so bad for him. I spoke with a friend tonight who watches the Voice and I asked her what she likes about it. She told me that it’s the only show of its kind where everyone’s nice. Imagine that.
My favorites of the night were definitely Jacoby and Kellie. Jacoby provided me the most fun part of the night and I was annoyed that Len gave him an 8 and told him he would never get a 9 from him if he didn’t fix his feet. My words, but something close to that and thank you NancyM for already explaining about being pigeon toed and that it is part of your DNA if a person has it. Yes, Sean improved, but no way would I give Jacoby and Sean the same score. I would love to see Jacoby get the encore. Even though he went early in the night his dance stayed with me the entire night. I am still thinking about it.
I loved Derek’s choreograph of the Foxtrot for Kellie and she danced it beautifully.
I liked Zandaya’s dance and Val’s choreograph, but agree about her legs not being quite right. I was not surprised she received 10’s, but imo thought she was overscored.
Aly and Mark’s Samba was not the best for me either. I do see her being a bit more relaxed, but jmo she still is not wowing me. It may be Mark’s choreography as others have mentioned.
Ingo did look awkward and still not sure if he is truly having fun. I agree all the negativity makes it seem like he is not.
Sean definitely improved and for the first time he seemed to have a dance where he got the musicality that I have felt has been lacking from all his other dances. I had a feeling the Quick Step was going to be his best dance. Even if I’m not a fan I will give credit where credit is due.
I just want Andy to stay because he definitely looks like he is having fun, tries his hardest and I always look forward to seeing what he and Sharna are going to bring next. I know he is not great technically, but thought the judges were way too harsh on him and yet he didn’t react like we have seen DL react. Andy was scored too low. IMO I almost think Ingo should go before Andy just based on the fact that Andy wants to stay so much and Ingo is appearing like he is not enjoying himself.
Victor did improve and I enjoyed his dance. He seemed to try to do his best. Felt bad for him about his girlfriend. I thought he was underscored.
I think DL was given the right score and I don’t know who is voting for him (unless it is all Cheryl’s fans), but I would like to see him go over Victor. He probably won’t.
It turned out to be a good night with all the dancing, but my thoughts and prayers are with all those from Boston. Don’t live that far from there myself and have been there many, many times. Just horrific! Felt so bad for Tom and Aly.
Haha, exactly, what Tristan did in practice. I LOVED his quickstep with Chelsie. Miss him so much on the show. But Peta’s hair and dress/overalls …just no.
Jacoby’s jive was the dance of the night. He is so laid back and he just enjoys the ride. And actually he is quite light on his feet and flexible.
I am so sorry that Ingo is so stiff and intense. I really want to see Kym with a partner she has fun with. 🙁
Also Kellie and Derek. Fabulous, what can I say! The man can choreograph anything.
I really hope DL GOES AND NOT VICTOR
Love waking up and reading so many cool reviews this morning!!!! I have to say too that the “side by side” thing and having the returning pros come back worked for me too. Another great shake up to the show and it helped the celebs to get more advise! I hope they keep doing that and bringing back even more older pros too like Corky, Lacey, etc.
Okay, I am just going to put this out there…
Apart from my few favorites, the joyous and ever so glad he is still on the show, Andy, who justs put a smile on my face each and every week, and the cute as a button Kellie, who undoubtedly has the most beautiful lines ever, and add those two with just a touch of Jacoby, thrown in there, and that about rounds out the cast for me.
I find the rest of the cast dull and boring.
….it always comes back to the judges, doesn’t it?…..if they would just score the same for everyone….don’t overscore your favorites….treat them all the same….hold them all to the same standards……they were much too harsh on Andy….overscored Zendaya…overscored Aly…..and DL….lordy..that was NOT dancing…….loved seeing the pros…..did feel like Maks and Anna were like?…you didn’t want me this season?…watch what I can do….ha, ha…..how in the world did Lindsey get the spot as a pro?…when you watched all of these other fabulous women?….Lindsey is so, so green……..I think it definitely helped some of the celebs to have a pro there of their same sex…..several of them benefited from it….in particular Sean and Jacoby…….Aly?…don’t get it, don’t see it…..she doesn’t have any musicality….she doesn’t let loose….when she speaks I feel like it is a robot and she has rehearsed her lines to say….not natural…(sort of like what Anne Hathaway was accused of)….Aly is not heavy but I thought it was very noticeable last night in rehearsals against the pro…Aly has a belly…and I wonder if that is causing Mark to have some issues with her costumes???….I don’t know….Mark seems so off this season….is it him?..or it is because of Aly?…is it because while she is competent enough as a dancer…he can look and see so many more better than her?…don’t know…something is off with him for sure…..Andy?…hot mess BUT that man wants to be there with everything he has got…DL does not….Ingo does not…..I mean unless something major happens, I think we all know who the final three will be….in what order everyone else leaves, doesn’t really matter so why not leave Andy in as long as possible….he is working his behind off and enjoying it!!!!…just refreshing to see!!!!
I only remember the ballroom erupting like that for Hines and Shawn. Jacoby is entertaining. He did apologize for not paying attention to Brooke’s interview with Aly. He felt bad. Him feeling regretful, is more endearing than some of them who say. “This is for Boston” or “Our thoughts are with the people in Boston”….just to say it.
Kellie had the best side by side of the night.
Perhaps TPTB need to have a voting “malfunction” like they did for Shawn & Derek’s phone line and for the abc.com site during the finals, that way votes don’t get thru for DL…cough cough LOL.
Also, Peta, bless her heart. That hair!
Finally got to watch Val and Zendaya’s dance this morning as my DVR cut out last night for the last two dances. Loved the dance however I could have watched Mak and Anna for the whole dance. They were beautiful together and so passionate even for the mere 15 seconds.
I love Andy’ attitude although the dance really lacked something but Andy gave it everything and that is how it should be.
Last night was the first time I voted this season. Andy has captivated me. I just want him to stay, so I gave him some votes. Whoever said he’s the “Ty Murray” of this season was right. Same thing. Can’t dance, but tries so hard and is so funny. I hope he stays, and D.L. or one of the tall blond guys go, but I’m afraid it might be Victor. I think he would have done better with Chelsie or Anna. The only new pro who impresses me is Sharna. Andy was lucky he got her. Hope she has the same success with Andy that Chelsie had her first season with Ty.
The highlights of the evening for me were seeing Tristan dance, Kellie and Derek’s dance, and, I even though he’s still not a favorite, I enjoyed Jacoby and Karina’s jive. Both dances were enjoyable to watch. And I would like to see Jacoby get the encore.
The rest of the evening was not that exciting for me. I usually leave the room when Sean dances. I just haven’t liked his dances at all, he’s stiff and awkward, and I don’t think Peta is doing much to help him. I just find him boring. I also leave when Zendaya comes on. I’m just tired of the hype, I don’t like that she’s always in the second half of the show, usually towards the end and I didn’t want to watch Maks. I think she was overscored too. She didn’t deserve the 10’s. But she’s not going anywhere.
Aly was ok. I’m hoping she sticks around longer than Zendaya, but probably wishful thinking on my part.
DL did his usual clomping around. He doesn’t dance! At all. How do people not see that? Cheryl spins and flails and struts around him and he either stands there or clomps around. At least he didn’t say anything inappropriate. He needs to go, but unfortunately, I think he’s going to be around another week.
Ingo is forgettable. I can never remember his dances. He always dances early in the show and I think that hurts him. He is trying though, and is enjoying his time there.
I wanted to like Andy, but that dance didn’t work. I would love to see him stay another week, but I think he’s going to be in the bottom two with a chance of leaving.
Victor is another that is forgettable to me. Like Ingo, he’s trying, but he does some clomping around too.
So, I’m thinking the bottom two are DL, Sean or Victor with a possibility of Andy. I’m so hoping it will be DL leaving, but it will probably be Victor. As long as it’s not Andy.
Wow, I have newfound respect for the pros. When they opened all the dances they danced like sleek racehorses charging out of the paddock, then when the celebs joined in they looked like housecats sunning themselves on the windowsill. A very noticeable drop. And Anna! Yowsa! Such passion, control and daring in that AT.
I love Jacoby. I can’t help it. He make me happy when he dances. How in the heck did he do that leap over Karina? He didn’t even place his hands on her shoulders to get more height. I had to scrap my jaw off the floor after that!
Kellie and Derek are a perfect partnership. She brings out his heart and he brings out her sweetness.
I swear Peta’s taste level in costuming is horrific. She’s such a beautiful girl who somehow with the wigs and garish outfits makes herself look a cheap crack whore week after week. That outfit last night was a new low. Gold lame should be banned from the ballroom from now on.
The judges can suck it. Giving Andy the same scores as DL was a new low, even for them. DL danced that Tango as I imagine Frankestein would. Stomp, stomp, stomp, “Aahh fire!”, run, clomp, clomp clomp.
Andy looked pretty good. He’s making improvement week after week. I thought sevens would have been more appropriate.
Good god. Is it too much to ask that people hit RETURN???? No one wants to read a long string of words with only ellipses.
I really enjoyed last night. My heart is so heavy and sad for the victims of Boston and I’m grateful for the levity.
I LOVED seeing Anna dance with Henry and Maks. She is amazing. I really enjoyed watching each of the celebrities being gently nurtured and taught by their extra pro pairs.
My 3 favorite dances (equally favorite for different reasons) were the 3 that Anna was in. I hope to see Jacoby, Kellie, and Zendaya in the finals, what an entertaining show that will make.
I also really liked the opening number. Just so much good dancing last night.
I don’t know if I can rank the dances, so I am going to use C’s rankings, and just give some thoughts…
Zendaya and Val….. I keep watching her, and not knowing what it is that I am missing with her….. So many other people seem to be going crazy over her, and her dancing that can do nothing bad, including the judges, and I’m just wondering WHAT? am I missing?? I was watching with my daughter (teenaged college student), we’ve been watching the show since Monique Coleman was on…. She can’t figure out why they have been propping her up so much, and she listed a long string of Disney peeps that have been on the show, and she just kept asking why her? And we both thought she was a little over scored. I would have given her 9’s.
Kellie and Derek…. They are just a very calm pairing, and they bring out the best in each other. And I didn’t doubt that they’d have a great dance, because everytime that Derek seems to struggle with choreography, he ends up with another masterpiece.
Jacoby and Karina…. I’m liking him more and more.
Aly and Mark…. I thought that this dance was better than last week’s, and I did agree with the score…. Didn’t like Mark’s attitude when they got their score.
Andy and Sharna… He just makes me happy! And I want him to do well, because this whole thing is so important to him. I know he won’t win, but he’s charming and endearing, and much more entertaining than DL. I hope that he gets everything he needs from this show, to help him win in life, and remain sober.
Ingo and Kym…. He’s got such great eyes! The other thing I got from their dance is his cute little boy smiling in the audience! Making your child happy is always a win.
Sean and Peta….Well, he did do better, and she almost had a costume on! Peta’s NOT Edyta…. She did the no-real-costume thing and carried it well. Peta does not.
DL and Cheryl…. Not entertaining, not danced well…. I keep hoping that he goes home. Unfortunately, I don’t think he will.
Victor and Lindsay… Unfortunately kind of forgettable. That’s never a good thing.
I don’t know if I liked the side by side challenge…. It really did make most of the celebrities stand out like a sore thumb. LOVED! seeing Anna back, I am missing her this season. Liked seeing Chelsea and Maks too, but I am definitely missing Anna more. While watching Witney with Aly, I couldn’t help but think that the producers finally succeeded in finding “another Julianne…” Chelsea has a similar talent, but I don’t think she has that “it” factor that always made Julianne stand out. And Lindsay? With some time, she could be good, but she just isn’t standing out. But Witney….. She’s got a lot of something, and they may just have found that standout like Julianne…. But I would like to see her a lot longer in the troupe, to gain some experience. She’s got the spunk, but would like to see her learn and grow, before she teaches celebs more than how to whip your hair.
I am surprised to read the comments regarding Mark’s choreography. I personally have enjoyed Mark this season, and those who know me KNOW I am Not a Mark fan. To me he has reverted back to the earlier seasons when I really enjoyed his work and IMO he has had a major attitude adjustment. I mean, a couple of ppl retweeting him on Twitter and thus popping up in my tl shows that he’s still the Mark I have issues with. But nonetheless I personally am enjoying his partnership with Aly. I would much rather have this version vs. Season 12 Mark who thinks ‘outside the box’ and gets mad at the judges for docking points. And no weird Pasos and “VW”s that have me upset and scratching my head.
#Lori, apparently not many people are going Crazy over her, especially on this website;)
An Anna just come back every week! She was amazing last night, hope she’s back as a pro next season!
Good thing CC didn’t take that bet – Zendaya and Val got the encore, according to DWTSGossip. I am getting freakishly good a predicting some of this stuff. 🙂
I am curious what Maks was talking about in his recent Clicker article that came out today (after the dancing) talking about how the finale is going to be different…why do i feel the word twitter is going to be involved? He won’t go into detail but things are going to be different this year….ugh…scared!
Jazz, quit talking about what other people are saying on this site and complaining about it. You haven’t earned that right. You don’t get to just show up and preach or complain. You need more content than that.
I am almost starting to think that Zendaya isn’t getting the votes…lol. It’s like they want to shove her down your throat as much as they can because it won’t be her standing alone in the end. I mean TPTB used to mix things up and give different looks from the previous nights dancing- like Jacoby is totally deserving of the encore. If for nothing more- I am tired of seeing Zendaya’s face! Nicole S could of had the encore every week and she didn’t. All this Zendaya pushing is making me feel like something is off…either that or they want her to win that bad.
Admittedly, I was worried about Kellie’s foxtrot because of both Derek and Kellie’s tweets and comments over the last week … But I should have known that all those challenges would make them rise to the occasion. This foxtrot was my fave dance of the night and my fave foxtrot of Derek’s since Nicole’s. How brilliant of Derek (with perhaps an assist of Henry) to channel The Great Gatsby, especially since we saw a trailer of the movie in one of the commercial breaks prior to Kellie and Derek. Anyways, for all the hardships, Kellie NEVER doing ballroom before, missed rehearsal time this week, and the choreo block that Derek was having … They sure DELIVERED! That one deserved at least one 10 from the judges, IMO.
I can certainly appreciate Zendaya’s dancing and think she is a wonderful dancer… but I am so not surprised that she got the first 10s of the season. But I just don’t connect with her and her dancing. For me, I think it’s because she is being pimped by the show… the frontrunner always gets the most attention by the media, especially when the get the highest scores every week. But I do enjoy watching her dance and like to see a happy kid! lol
Jacoby is my second favorite dancer of the season. I just love his attitude, humor, partnership with Karina, and of course his dancing! I thought he did an amazing jive, esp when he did those double splits and that jump over Karina! His energy is really infectious and i feel like he is lighthearted and serious abt this competition at the same time. He’s definitely captured my attention!
Gotta love Andy! He is just pure entertainment and even though he isn’t the best dancer, he is def more interesting to watch then DL, Victor, and Ingo for me and I love Sharna. Sooooo, I hope he lasts for 3 more weeks… =P
Bottom 3 will prob be DL, Andy, Victor.. I think Victor will go home.
My satellite was out for the first half of the show, so I only got to see some of the dances. I was able to see Jacoby’s on you tube.
I don’t get Zendaya, and the “I’m only 16” thing is wearing thin pretty fast. We know how old you are, thanks. But it doesn’t really surprise me that she got the encore.
Missed Sean and Peta’s dance, thankfully.
There is no way DL and Andy should have been scored the same. Andy is just a delight and moved way better than DL’s stomping.
I’m afraid for Any though. He’s been in jeopardy every time except the first time hasn’t he? And I could just wish DL would go home, because unfortunately, it likely won’t be Sean.
And Jazz earns herself an all expenses-paid trip to the trash bin, with the “Princess Heidi, this is a public site” comment. HA! Clearly you don’t know how the internet works, honey. This site isn’t endorsed by the show, the network, or anyone operating in any sort of official capacity – we pay for our own server, we do all the work, and thus WE make the rules. And you don’t get to stroll in & just start throwing out insults about the people that post here. Not your house, not your rules. GTFU.
Sooooo wrong for Zendaya to get ANOTHER encore. Sick of her and Kellie really deserves it. A beautiful story dance, full of showmanship. I get that tptb are trying to appeal to younger people than I guess most of their viewers are?? but many young people appreciate quality and fun too. Kellies side by side had the most substance to it that was performed perfectly…all the others seemed dummed down when the celeb started to dance. It’s wrong just like many other things about this show.
I think there are SEVERAL people who deserve/have deserved the encore the past few weeks – I was ok with Zendaya’s jive encore, I could have done without Sean’s YMCA repeat and Aly’s ho-hum contemporary for a 2nd time, and I seriously thought Jacoby was a shoo-in for the encore tonight. Guess I’ll just go fix myself a sangritch while Zendaya repeats that squatty, lukewarm A. tango…
So, I’m just a little bit peeved. I realize that by now I should be used to all the shenanigans and just move on, but logic doesn’t always work (and since when are TPTB logical?)
Someone can correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t the quickstep one of those dances in which you’re *not* supposed to break hold? And didn’t Shawn and Derek get *reamed* for that last season? And then Sean and Peta break hold several times, and nary a peep out of *any* of the judges? What gives?! However, I do have to say that Sean was more fluid and less stompy this week.
Also, it was *so* predictable that Zendaya got those tens. And I don’t think that dance was ten worthy. It looked awkward in places, and just didn’t do anything for me. I liked the story of the dance, and I think Zendaya did a good job – but I don’t think she did any better than Kellie, so if Zendaya deserved tens, so did Kellie.
Kellie’s was my favorite dance of the night. So much fun, and Derek managed yet again to put together some great choreography. I also enjoyed Jacoby, partly because he has such infectious enthusiasm. He’s definitely grown on me. I also really enjoyed Andy’s dance – he got into character, and really sold it. Was it the best? No, but he’s getting all my votes at the moment, because I want him to outlast DL and Sean. Fingers crossed. And I think he was underscored – I think he did as well as Ingo, and definitely better than DL. Hopefully everyone will assume DL is safe because he hasn’t been anywhere near the bottom, and will vote like crazy for Andy, since he has.
I also was rather impressed by Victor. I think it was one of his best dances, and I thought he was more in-sync in his side-by-side part that either of the dancers preceding him (Ingo and Jacoby). I think he was underscored a bit as well.
Ingo isn’t coming across well in the packages. He’s so down on himself. I really want to like him, and I think if he’d relax and have more fun, the dances would end up better as well. But I can’t root for him, because he’s not rooting for himself.
I’m having trouble remembering Aly. She’s not popping. It was a decent dance last night – probably overscored.
DL was also overscored – really?? He got the same score as Andy? I’m glad that he’s enjoying this more, and I’m not cringing as much during his packages and dances as I used to…but I’m still ready for him to go home.
I’m really hoping that either DL or Sean will go home this week. I’d probably be okay with Ingo as well, because his negative attitude is getting to me. I’m hoping Victor will last another week (unlikely, I know), and I’m most nervous for Andy, because I want him to stay so badly.
Aww man, I was hoping for a Jacoby or Kellie encore.
Lori, I agree with you about Witney having the it factor, more than Lindsay. I love Chelsie though too. Did you watch SYTYCD last season? Or do you watch Afterbuzz? When Sharna was on Afterbuzz after the week 1 shows, she gave a little insight as to why they could have picked Lindsay over Witney for pro. (She worked with them on SYTYCD). Basically I don’t know if Witney is ready at this point to be a mentor and a teacher. But I think she could be later after some time on the troupe. Not sure if Lindsay was really ready either but I think might have had a more mature overall vibe than Witney at this point. And it’s not necessarily about age, Julianne (whether you like her or not) had the it factor and the capability to teach even at 18. Interesting how they picked her first for DWTS even though she was so much younger than the rest of the pros at the time and Derek and Mark are also older than her but came later.
Side note: Anyone have any insight as to while they didn’t use Oksana or Julian in any of the numbers this week?
I didn’t watch the results show last week, and I’m not really inclined to watch it this week. I don’t really need to see Selena Gomez again and I really don’t want to see Zendaya do the encore. The show is slowly but steadily losing me as a viewer.
Kellie & Derek: As usual, Derek hit it out of the ballpark with stunning and entertaining choreo and I’m glad he is a perfectionist because Kelly really looked good and I think they also had the best and most beautiful side by side dance with the pros. My favorite dance of the night! I keep wanting them to win this thing.
Zendaya and Val: I guess she is OK, but I’m not in love with her dancing because those coltish legs just get in the way. Those bent knees were too distracting, for me anyway.
Jacoby and Karina: I just love Karina’s dancing and admire her so much. Jacoby is energetic and grabs the crowd, I just don’t feel a connection with him.
Aly and Mark: Sigh, I am so bored with her, even though this was one of her better dances. No fluidity, no musicality, no flow and no personality. I almost want her to just do brilliant backflips: at least I could “ooh and aah” over those! Her pigeon toes were very distracting. And I wonder if Mark even owns any dance shoes that aren’t spats?
Andy and Sharna: He is so funny and charming and earnest, it is endearing. So, its cute to watch him try and dance even if it is only because he is trying so hard. Sharna is a great partner/teacher for him because it seems like she has a big heart as well and he responds to that.
Ingo and Kym: Unimpressive, imo
Sean and Peta: Again unimpressive, imo. Peta’s hair? WTF? And her gold lame pants? Noooooo.
DL and Cheryl: Please go home DL. Enough already. Please.
Victor and Lindsay: Did they dance? I hardly remember it. He needs to go home as well.
I really enjoyed the side by side challenge because I got to see beautiful dancing by wonderful pros which was a major treat. I really loved seeing Anna, Maks, and Tristan again. A lot. Made me realize in comparison, how inexperienced Lindsay is. I agree that Whitney has the “it” factor and I would love to see her in the troupe before she becomes a pro/teacher but I agree she might possibly be the next Julianne. I may be in error but I think she and Chehon, the winner of SYTYCD, have just filmed a movie. Now, that would be a lot of eye candy and fun to watch, imo.
Heidi #61 Now I am bummed that Zandaya is getting the Encore dance. I was really looking forward to seeing Jacoby’s jive again. He hasn’t had a chance yet and knew he was hoping to get it. If not Jacoby I would choose Kellie’s foxtrot. For me those were my two favorite dances.
Joey #64 Funny that you mention maybe Zandaya is not getting the votes, because I was wondering the same thing. lol I could be completely wrong, but I think except for one week she has danced in the 2nd half and TPTB seem to be favoring her in so many different ways that that might be the reason I am not enjoying her. She is a great dancer and I won’t take that away from her, but I am getting rather tired of everything being favored for her.
Marlene #66 I agree Zandaya and her “I’m only 16” is wearing thing and now all this the next Beyonce stuff.
I am disappointed about the Encore, but hope that Andy has the votes to survive.
Jacoby deserves the encore. Giving it to Zendaya and putting her front and center again just because she got the first perfect score (which she didn’t deserve) would be wrong.
Shirley Ballas said on the second poptvdotcom dwts afterdark video that they have made it a four couple final this year…
Last night was so fun to watch! Watched most of the dances twice (reverse after each dance, then ff through the commercials). I think the side-by-side was a big success. I loved the “stories” in some of the dances (even Peta & Sean were cute at that).
Derek & Kellie were great, fine dancing and fun to watch! Zendaya & Val were also great, but not 10-worthy (imo). Jacoby was amazing! He is just so fun to watch, so athletic even if not form-perfect. Andy was also fun to watch, I thought he did pretty well. I hope Sharna is not just a one-time pro. Victor is just so cute, he did better than they scored, I just hope other people like him too. Sean did surprisingly well, he should be ok this week. Ingo kind of turned me off with the skate by comments. He hasn’t stood out enough in any week (imo) to think he could be able to skate by. Aly did pretty well, but something about her…Mark doesn’t seem to be bringing anything amazing this season. D.L.-nuff said about him.
I think bottom 3 will be Victor, D.L., & Ingo. Hope it’s D.L. going home.
I love Derek’s dances in General… but his Foxtrots are always my favorites!!! and i absolutely agree that the broadway element in them makes them very entertaining to watch, Kellie did a phenomenal job. I agree with the stiffness comment but for her first ballroom dance…. AMAZING!!!
Zendaya sold it for me as usual, i just love this girl. amazing dance, of course i could see the bent knees, but that is more like a stylistic choice, as in it is done on purpose by her and val, I’d like to see her dance to her full length so i could compare which version is less awkward… but i’m rooting for her just because she is one of those celebs who lives every moment of her dances…. I believe her dancing… I believe the story she tell with her amazing movement… and she is a spectacular dancer
Jacoby week after week this man grows on me… great dance and i found myself wanting to jive after the dance… i noticed the feet but didn’t care much… i was just loving the energy.
Sean was improved. i kinda like these two’s being complete dorks
Andy was much better than his scores… way underscored.. i mean they could have given him at least a 21, but i have a feeling that they just wanted to pit the comedians against each other… they made several “comedians never make it far” references and even mentioned Andy to D.L. in his interview.
Ingo was bad….. D.L. was baaaaaaaaaad…. Victor was sad, i think he also was underscored a couple of points… or maybe ingo was over scored a couple of point… point is these two weren’t suppose to het the same score
all the pro intros were greatly amazing… i enjoyed all of them.
I don’t think Zendaya should have gotten the encore, either. I would have liked to see Kellie or Jacoby again, and I think Kellie has been “encore worthy” every single week – but she has yet to get it. I also think that they should have had Andy as an encore for either his jazz number or the waltz from last week; both of those dances, though not technically the best of the night, were so special – and I think it would have been so affirming for Andy to receive the encore. I haven’t really been happy with any of the encore choices this season so far, though Zendaya redoing her jive was fine.
I’m with Lori. I don’t get all the Zendaya love either. Her dances don’t move me. Her legs were bent last night. I agree she didn’t perform better than Kellie and obviously Len agreed as he gave them both the same score. I wish Kellie would dance after Zendaya..maybe she’d get higher scores. Here’s the thing, She HAS dance training. Oh but Kellie was a cheerleader. Um ya, 10years ago in high school so how that gives Kellie an advantage over Zendaya, I don’t know. Just how the Zendaya fans on Twitter think.
Personally, I don’t think teenagers should be allowed to compete on the show. They’re obviously gonna have an advantage over older people like Wynonna and Dorothy–still bummed she had to drop out because I know she’d be in it for awhile.
Glad too that we didn’t have to vote for next weeks dance on Twitter..Glad Peta was wrong on that one because it wouldn’t bode well for Kellie and Derek. I’m surprised they’re doing QS immediately after Foxtrot. Well I think it’ll benefit Kellie doing back to back ballroom dances.
And Kellie did the BEST side by side dance with the Pros..there should be bonus points for that. lol
Lot’s of comments going to the trash can today. Don’t others have a life other than to troll? sad!
Wonder what the gimmick or agenda is with the 4-couple finale. No way to KNOW, but I can think of a bunch of possibilities… 😉 I guess that’s why there was no Week 1 elimination.
Pay them no mind, Vogue – just click the “trash” icon and keep it moving 🙂 Not even a blip on a my radar…
Shirley Ballas said its a four couple final!!!’ :))
I loved Zendaya’s dance, but, I think the honor should have went to Kellie and Derek or Jacoby and Karina!
lol Ok, sounds good C. Just sent another to the trash. xxx
I’m totally with everyone on Witney. Linds is so green it makes her look younger than everyone else, and does not have the powerful presence that Wit does. Witney has it – Chelsie and Lindsay do not. Even on SYTYCD, you could see that Witney and Lindsay were nowhere near as perfect technically as Chels (and that they danced just like her), but Witney is the one of the three that grabs you.
Zendaya for encore? Again? I love Val and like her. But I’m tired of her getting rammed down my throat. She’s already becoming pervasive just like her idol Beyonce.
Just read PH’s post #61. So disappointing. I will either be out of the room or mute my tv. Jacoby deserved it much more.
Here’s the thing about the encore: it’s one of the few aspects of the show where I think it’s ok to “share the love” a bit, so to speak. I definitely don’t subscribe to the “everyone pro gets an MBT” peewee football theory, but when it comes to the encore performances (which have little effect on the outcome of the competition, in the great scheme of things), I’m fine if they mix it up from week to week…even if the performances they chose weren’t necessarily the strongest or highest in score in a particular week. But at this point, it’s as if TPTB are trying to use every weapon in their arsenal to ram Zendaya down viewers’ throats – and what used to be an innocent, fun thing is now being used as yet another way to give her (and other “chosen ones”) exposure and promote the family/the coveted young viewer demographic. In the 3 encores we’ve seen so far, 2 of them have been from ABC “family members” (Zendaya & Sean), and the other has been from another member of the young set (Aly). And tonight makes another mark in the family member column. Is the new rule that you can only have the encore if you’re a) part of the family, or b) potentially raising the young viewer ratings share? What used to be a fun, innocent thing for just bragging rights amongst the couples now seems like something far more insidious…
A four couple finale?
Oh, hell no.
WHAT IS IT NOW? Ugh
+1 C!!!
I’m excited about the 4 couple finale if true. What I’d give it if were Kellie, Jacoby, Zendaya, and ANDY!!!!
I’m also excited if it’s true about a 4 couple final. That means no double elimination and that means we see more people for longer. (Unless, of course it’s someone I don’t want to see for longer :)) And agree, maybe Andy gets to the finals or perhaps semis.
Question: I thought AT was supposed to have bent legs, no?
jess, see Courtney’s original post. The legs were just TOO bent.
To me, final 4 guarantees Zendaya’s being there. Even if she isn’t quite getting the votes they want, I’m sure she has enough support to make it into a Top 4. But, on a less cynical note, it also will help someone like Kellie (who should be in the final but possibly could be one of those good but “eliminated in the semi finals” stars) or even hopefully Andy if he is popular enough. It also could help Aly though, because I see the judges propping her so if it was between her and Andy for a fourth spot, you can bet they will do everything in their scoring and comments power to make it Aly not Andy.
But overall, if they are doing it, whatever, I’ll look at the positives over the conspiracy theories. At least I feel pretty certain that Kellie will be in now. I feel like Zendaya and Jacoby have been sure things from the beginning. But, for the last spot, Aly could have the support to get in over Kellie. But won’t matter if there are 4.
I am so tired of Zendaya being shoved down my throat on DWTS, that I have boycotted her show Shake-it-Up in my house. I know I can’t change all the craziness that’s going on with DWTS, but damn, I can call all the shots in my own home.
No Shake-it-Up in my house until after this season of DWTS is over. Period.
Loved Jacoby and I can only imagine it must be difficult to point your toes when your feet are that big! I too thought Zendaya was over scored and I want to seriously cut her finger nails. Over Ingo….no one wants to watch someone who is just trying to “skate by.” I’ve nicknamed DL “Stompy.” I think Ingo goes tonight
That’s two people today who have tried to tell me I’m not the boss of them (on this site). Er…that’s what you think. 🙂
EPmusic, Derek is on record saying that they called him to be a pro on the show at the same time as they called Julianne, but he was committed to something else at the time. I believe that might have been Footloose on the West End, but I’m just not clear on the timing of that and Bruno’s show in the UK.
Well, I think I prefer a four couple finale to a double elimination.
so if it is a 4 person final i really think it will be zendaya, jacoby, kellie, and aly…guess shirley and mark are happy because i think that is how Aly will make it in:)
Hey Court, did you see where the troll was ragging on you for mis-spelling a word actually mis-spelled a word herself? Don’t you LOVE it when that happens? 🙂
My rankings:
1)Zendaya and Val: PERFECTION.
2)Kellie and Derek: Loved it.
3)Jacoby and Karina: Really fun to watch but I agreed with Len.
4)Andy and Sharna: Was it not perfect? Yes but it was a lot of fun to watch.
5)Aly and Mark: Fun to watch but overscored.
6)Sean and Peta: As much as I ahte to say it, he has grown on me. he is absolutely improving by leaps and bounds.
7)Victor and Lindsay: It was underscored I think.
8)Ingo and Kym: I liked it BUT that was not his dance.
9)D.L. and Cheryl: yeah, it is what it is. If he survives, give him a jive and guess what the 4 padels will be back.
Very pleased that Zendaya got the encore – her Argentine Tango was my favorite dance of the season by far!
Also impressed by Sean this week – from a messy Viennese Waltz to a light and polished Quickstep.
I thought Zendaya was great and as of yet, wouldn’t mind if she won the whole thing. However, I could just as easily see Jacoby and Kellie’s dance being picked for the encore (as well as win the whole thing). So I agree that it looks like she may not be getting the votes if they need (and/or want) to pick her dance again for the encore. I guess we’ll see sooner or later how the votes are shaking out.
And why in God’s name this Whitney girl wasn’t picked to be a pro over Lindsay is beyond me. Granted, I haven’t seen her teach but she had presence in spades. And it appeared from Lindsay’s clip again last night that it isn’t so much Victor, or his relationship woes, but that she doesn’t know how to teach and personality-wise she gets lost easily among other dynamic personalities, imo.
I was all for bringing new pros on to give the cast a shakeup. I think it inspires older pros and gives a fresh face for some of these guys that have been doing the same thing year after year. After watching last night somethings became pretty clear to me..Lindsey is not ready to be a pro, and after watching for a few weeks she doesn’t have the “it” factor, she appears to be just a good, decent dancer to me. I guess they thought she had the maturity to teach? Whitney def has the pop- at least last night anyways. Regardless, both girls should put some time in the troupe. Anna looked amazing..she def wanted to prove something to tptb. Sharna is a great addition though…so the fight for final spot is up for anyone which makes everyone work that much harder.
I am very disappointed that Zendaya is being propped even more with the encore. I just do not enjoy watching her dance at all. I know she can’t help her height, but she just looks gangly.
Since Aly had last week’s encore, Jacoby would have been a much better choice. His dance was far and away the most entertaining to me.
I do think Kellie looked better last night with her super short hair covered by the wig.
I don’t think Victor would have been any more of a contender with Whitney or Chelsie than with Lindsay. He’s a bit of an odd duck and doesn’t interview well, nor does he have enough ability that a better teacher would have catapulted him forward much more than what Lindsay has done – so I wouldn’t blame his being in the bottom two regularly on anyone but himself. He might last a week or two longer with someone else, but he just doesn’t have enough appeal or talent to overcome the other more popular, talented, and engaging stars. That being said, I haven’t seen anything from Lindsay that would make me think she’s better suited than Whitney or Chelsie, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see another shake-up in the next season or two.
Figamentation I think you’re right about Victor not interviewing well. I watched the DWTS Afterparty last week that he was a guest on. He sure does seem to be in love with the sound of his own voice. He just kept going on and on and barging into conversations. Sort of reminded me of a self involved teenager who thinks everyone wants to hear him repeat his conversations with others.
I also don’t think he’s putting in quality practice time. Now, whether this is because he’s just not interested or because Lindsay just isn’t engaging him I don’t know. I suspect it’s a little bit of both.
Not sure how I feel about a final four. My only worry is that the couple that would have been out in the semi-finals is instead allowed in the final and does a crowd pleasing free-style that wins them the MBT over the real final three.
I’ll just have to contend with watching Jacoby/Karina’s jive over again on youtube since it didn’t get the encore. Boo!!
The side by side and trio dances got me thinking that an extra pro that is the same gender of the star might be a good thing as a regular part of the teams. They could just be advising technically and let the main pro do all the choreography. I guess I would like to see more of my old favorite pros comeback but then it would give some of the troupe members a trial run at teaching too.
@Harriett, I completely agree. Sometimes only someone the same sex can really show you what you should look like, I thought this before after watching the trio dances in previous seasons. And it would give more exposure to the troupe and pros who left early in the competition.
