DWTS Season 16, Week 6 – Dancing by the Numbers
Such a weird night. First, they yank out the tens for one of Zendaya’s worst dances….it’s almost like they knew that Team Paso was gonna suck kinda hard. Then, Carrie Ann refuses to give up a 10 to Kellie and Derek, claiming that there was space between them, yet totally failing to note Zendaya’s again bad legs. They then totally hose Andy (and Len continues to be excessively mean to him), while being kind to Victor, who had a worse dance than Andy’s.
Weirdest of all – on paper, Team Paso should have had that dance in the bag. So, did they get over confident? Think they could skate by on bare chests (didn’t the same pros fail at that last season as well?)?? What?? I guess this just goes to show that if you are the weaker team and you have to be MORE creative in order to get past your weak dancers, you just DO.
It will be really funny when the team dance that sucked eggs (and looked like the poor man’s version of Derek/Brooke’s team paso at the end) wins the encore. LOL. Yeeeaaah. 😀
Anyway, how did our dancers do??
So…Victor is in deep doo doo. It will take a bit of a miracle to save him at this point. What does he need to get to be safe? Victor needs ONE of the following things to happen:
– Victor needs 8,000 more votes per million votes cast than Andy, OR;
– Victor needs 13,300 more votes per million votes cast than Jacoby, OR;
– Victor needs 16,000 more votes per million votes cast than EITHER Ingo or Sean, OR;
– Victor needs 29,200 more votes per million votes cast than Zendaya, OR;
– Victor needs 32,000 more votes per million votes cast than Aly, OR;
– Victor needs 37,200 more votes per million votes cast than Kellie.
Frankly, I don’t believe Victor gets any of those margins. His best bet is Andy and Andy was low scorer last week but was NOT in the bottom two. Victor, on the other hand, had two people below him in terms of score, but was still in the bottom two. Not looking good for Victor. At all.
But let’s say that Victor manages to pass someone. Andy is next in line in terms of judges score. What does Andy need to have happen in order to be safe? He needs ONE of the following:
– Andy needs for Victor to NOT get 8,000 more votes per million votes cast than him, OR;
– Andy needs 5,350 more votes per million votes cast than Jacoby, OR;
– Andy needs 8,000 more votes per million votes cast than EITHER Ingo or Sean, OR;
– Andy needs 21,300 more votes per million votes cast than Zendaya, OR;
– Andy needs 24,000 more votes per million votes cast than Aly, OR;
– Andy needs 29,200 more votes per million votes cast than Kellie.
Now, I don’t think Victor is getting the 8k he needs…and I would be willing to bet that Andy is getting 8k more than Ingo. I just think that Ingo has worn out his welcome. But he was put in jeopardy last week and sometimes a guy gets a bounce after that happens. Will Ingo?? I dunno. My gut is saying no. I think, based largely on his bromance with Tristan and how funny he was about that, Sean is likely safe this week. I think it will come down to Victor, Ingo and Andy.
What does Ingo (or Sean) need to have happen in order to be safe?? Ingo (or Sean) needs ONE of the following things to happen:
– Ingo needs for Victor to not get the 16,000 more votes per million votes cast than him, OR;
– Ingo needs for Andy to not get the 8,000 more votes per million votes cast than him, OR;
– Ingo needs for Jacoby to NOT get the 2,700 more votes per million votes cast than him, OR;
– Ingo needs to get ONE more vote per million votes cast than Sean, OR;
– Ingo needs 13,300 more votes per million votes cast than Zendaya, OR;
– Ingo needs 16,000 more votes per million votes cast than Aly, OR;
– Ingo needs 21,300 more votes per million votes cast than Kellie.
Okay, so based on all of the above, I think the following happens:
– Ingo and Sean aren’t touching Jacoby and he’s safe, easily getting 2,700 more votes per million votes cast than each of them;
– Andy gets 8k more than Ingo and Victor can’t catch him and is, therefore, safe;
– Ingo is getting beat by Sean, Jacoby and Andy, but there is no way that Victor is getting 16k more votes per million votes cast….
– Therefore, Victor goes home.
Seems like a simple math problem this week, but I could be wrong. I was starting to wonder if perhaps Zendaya wasn’t getting the votes, as badly as they overscored her Cha Cha, but I’m also wondering if they put her just far enough down to be safe while rallying her fans to vote like the little maniacs they are.
Doesn’t matter, IMO. I think it will either be Victor and Ingo or Victor and Andy in the bottom two and Victor will go home.
I’m saying it will be Victor and Ingo in the bottom two and Victor goes home.
Couldn’t agree more with you about the judges, Heidi!! This show seems so rigged sometimes.
I hope Team Samba gets the encore. I so want to see it again. It was clearly the better dance imo.
Anyway, like you I think Victor is going home. I think and hope Sean will be in the bottom with him.
Thanks, PH! Hope you are right!
Do you think that people will complain enough about Team Paso getting the encore that they will change it like they did last week when they gave Jacoby the encore instead of Z.????
Honestly, im really tired of Zendaya being pushed down everyone’s throat and im glad that she was not the big winner with her team dance. Carrie Ann needs to stop picking on little things of the couples she doesn’t like and stop favoring Zendaya so much. I think either Victor or Ingo will go home and Andy will stay another week but go next week. Victor doesn’t seem to even care if he is there or not. Does not look very interested in my opinion. If they keep up this twitter thing of course Zendaya will always win or Jacoby, but mostly her. Keep up the great job guys!! 🙂
@Meggie – I think the unfortunate thing here is that it was a Twitter contest and not just the judges picking…so they don’t have the same flexibility that they did last week. At least last week, they could feign innocence: “What??? No, we didn’t originally pick Z & Val for the encore…that’s just a rumor. It was always going to be Jacoby!” But this time, there’s actual evidence to back up one team or another winning…someone with a little Twitter know-how could easily run some numbers for how many tweets each team got.
I think it will be Victor and Andy bottom two with Victor going home this week.
Thanks Heidi and also agree with you about the judges. I still don’t understand about Team Paso being as bad as it was since like you said on paper it should have been easier. Listening to Val and Zandaya’s interview and how he is alreeady thinking about next week’s dance they have which just happens to be the Paso and the one he choreographed for the All Star season for Kelly I expected more and it still puzzles me. I don’t know how much input was given by the other pros because I expected Karina to have some great ideas. Just confused by it and don’t know what happened.
@Meggie let’s hope that turns out to be the case and TPTB change their mind and give us Team Samba.
Looking at the rankings I still can’t believe Sean is ahead of Jacoby. I rewatched Sean’s Samba and it didn’t get any less painful to watch. I think without a doubt Victor will go home. I agree with Vogue that Sean should and hope will be in the bottom two.
Change their minds? I thought the show isn’t allowed to manipulate vote count, which is exactly what that would mean.
It will be a surprise elimination for me if anyone other than Victor goes home. My second choice would be Ingo. I just want Andy to survive another week, but I don’t want him to suffer more abuse from the judges.
Gail, I never thought we’d see the day Sean was ahead of Jacoby either. That just doesn’t seem right.
No they can’t manipulate vote count, but they can decide to not base the encore on twitter. As long as they don’t say that the encore is a result of tweets tonight, they can do what they want. They will do whatever works in their best interest (according to TPTB)!
I think Kellie, Ali and Ingo were over scored. Don’t know if these three are not getting enough votes that the judges have to compensate with extra points.
Both team dances were pretty bad, wish neither of them got the encore.
Zendaya did an awesome job given that she was the first one to dance. One of the best dancers I’ve seen in a long time.
I believe Victor is going home tonight.
Hopefully Andy will be there next week. He and Sharna got the Rumba as their individual dance.
And the big challenge will be the immunity dance-off. This will be the Rumba, Jive or Samba. The highest scoring couple gets a pass and the remaining couples have to dance for immunity. They have to learn all three dance b/c they don’t know yet which dance they’ve to do. Wow, hopefully it’s not the Jive.
Sigh. I really wasn’t all that impressed with anybody, to be honest. I thought both Kellie and Zendaya were overscored, but Kellie definitely should have scored higher individually. Jacoby was underscored, but not by much. I liked his quickstep, but could definitely sense his dissatisfaction with the more restricting requirements of the quickstep. Sean was ridiculously overscored.
Honestly, the single standout of the night for me was Andy, and that was in the team dance. He was hilarious and probably the main reason I liked the team samba better than the paso.
Final verdict? Victor’s going home, and samba should never be used as a team dance.
In the who’s dancing what post Courtney specifically said the twitter contest winner gets the encore. Team Paso won that one fair and square.
Oh Victor! Why couldn’t you move just a little? He was my favorite even tho I knew he couldn’t win. He is going home. Ingo & Sean should round out the bottom 3 imo. I didn’t see anything special in either of them this week. Andy & Sharna are just so fun to watch! I think they should be safe this week. Val’s choreo was nicely age appropriate for Zendaya, but she just looks…kind of flimsy when she dances. I just don’t think her dances look as good as Kellie’s. Add last night’s CAI comment about not staying close enough in Kellie’s quick step to the long list titled “Why is she judging ballroom?”
Love this site! Thanks for giving me a place to vent:)
Nice Courtney:) people have been whining for days over the twitter crap but whoa me for setting the record straight. This is my last post so rest easy, I won’t spoil the pity party anymore.
What’d I do?
HEIDI does “Who’s Dancing What”. I do the power rankings. But hey, go ahead & continue to put words in my mouth, if it makes you feel better.
I don’t see anybody else besides Victor going home tonight. If it’s not him I would be completely shocked.
I’m going to be missing the show tonight and I’m glad there isn’t anything that I’m really looking forward to.
“Pity party”? Katarina, I’m pretty sure the only people who are holding a pity party are Team Paso, and they’re holding it for themselves because they have to do that awful dance again. Both team dances sucked, but if we really have to see one of them tonight, can you honestly say you’d rather watch that paso again?
Frankly, I’m on team “let’s hope the results show runs out of time or something and NEITHER team dances again”.
I just read an earlier post that Sean is like Willard in Footloose but not as endearing and I thought, yes! That’s exactly it. Wow, Z is in 3rd place. Bet she’s not happy and Val is probably popping a blood vessel or two over it. I’m not looking forward to TeamPaso again. It was horrible and guys dancing shirtless for no reason other than look at me, I’m not wearing a shirt, just makes me role my eyes.
I don’t know how anyone can really judge who got the encore yet – of course I don’t really get Twitter either (and I don’t tweet) – but I’m still holding out a faint hope that Team Samba came through.
As far as who’s going home, I think it will be Victor. I can’t see him passing Andy by any means. I don’t know who will join him in the bottom two – Ingo, Sean and Andy are the only real options. I guess we’ll see what the fan bases are right now. I think (and hope) Andy’s has been growing.
@Cidra – glad you’re back! It had been awhile since you had posted, and I was wondering if everything was okay.
I guess we won’t know until showtime which Team has the encore. I wish I knew before hand so I could prepare myself for the disappointment.
I just read that since doing DWTS Andy Dick has landed a TV Pilot. Good things seem to be coming his way. I am so happy for Andy. 🙂
Well, I was so annoyed at the judge’s comments and scoring last night that I turned the show off after Aly & Mark danced and did some enraged power voting for Andy & Sharna. I know my votes were a drop in the ocean of millions cast, but it made me feel better.
Pretty sure it will be Victor going home & I think he was ready to go last week.
I wonder if they’ll put Jacoby in jeopardy (even though hes not in the bottom) just to “boost” ratings and suspence.
my bottom 3 are Victor, Sean, and Andy (although I love Andy!!)
or they may do it as “all of team samba are safe” but who knows.
and Team Paso will have the encore just because of the twitter voting although Team Samba was the better dance (not by much though)
but TBH I’d rather see Kellie’s solo dance over the group dances.
The facebook Dancing with the Stars page has both team dances up and the samba has far more likes than the paso. Good thing they aren’t doing this by facebook vote, or Zandaya wouldn’t have a prayer.
Which is why I think they ought to dump the Twitter crap! Zendaya will win every time!!!
Young kids are not really on facebook anymore, lol.
This Team Dance sucks! If I remember correctly, I believe now everyone will have been chosen for an Encore but….. Andy.
I’m not watching the rest of this show tonight.
Actually, Kellie has yet to do an encore as well.
Both teams weren’t that stunning, I’d say due to only a few hours together. Maybe they should consider making the Team Dances a week-long practice, maybe some awesome dancing can actually come from it.
@ButterflyWhirl – I thought Kellie had one already.
The producers better not try this stunt again next season or I am going to be pissed. As I said before, once you lose interest in a show, you rarely ever return as a regular viewer again.
@Sandy – I don’t think Kellie has done one yet.
Week one (Kellie’s cha cha) – no encore
Week two (Kellie’s jazz) – Zendaya/jive
Week three (Kellie’s jive) – Sean/YMCA
Week four (Kellie’s rumba) – Aly/contemporary
Week five (Kellie’s foxtrot) – Jacoby/jive
Week six (Kellie’s quickstep) – Team Paso
She needs to be given the encore soon – and Andy too! They’re my two favorite dancers.
I would have given Andy or Kellie the encore the week zendaya got jive. Also think kellie foxtrot was stunning and deserved an encore too. Though Zendaya Argentine tango would be ok too but she has the judges on her side.
Katarina, you’ve shown time and again that you have no idea what the words “fair and square” mean. Oh, and don’t let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya. Now, prove me wrong and don’t come back.
#35 ButterflyWhirl, I also Can’t believe Kellie and Derek have not had an encore dance yet! I am trying to put a positive spin on this and not look at it as a deliberate slight against them. I am telling myself (for the time being anyway) that the judges know that Derek will continually come up it great dances and they can afford to wait to give them an encore dance later in the season. With the others, they may not have another chance. I know it’s a lame excuse, but I have nothing else and my faith in this show and TPTB is all but gone at this point!
TPTB care more about their social media profile than they do about who gets the encore. And with Zendaya’s two million Children of the Corn voting, no one else stands a chance, even when they had the better dance by far…BOTH times.
If you were the Paso Team and Z., wouldn’t you be embarrassed by that????
@Meggie – Are the C-brothers embarrassed by anything? I kind of get the impression, they don’t give a crap about what anyone else thinks.
Not sure how Z feels. She could be sweet as pie, yet hungry for fame at any cost. jmo.
What annoys me (and it may be more from Zendaya’s die hard fans than from Zendaya) is the smug vibe I get of “we beat you/we won again” and also the whole “Zendaya *deserves* the encore because she’s so amazing” thing. Like no one else is amazing? Or no one else deserves the encore? Does Zendaya really not know that no one else has a chance in these twitter contests?
Zendaya is probably just happy to know that no matter how bad her team performed she has fans that will keep voting to see her. Now if TPTB would end the Twitter voting, which we know won’t happen this season, I think she would be shocked to see how different the votes might be. I really don’t think Val is as delusional as Maks, but it’s too early to say for sure. I mean his first two seasons he left pretty early in the competition. Last season he made the finals, but Maks was still very prominent. This season without Maks competing, I think we have a better chance of seeing Val for Val. Though, I am still surprised Val (I’m assuming he was the lead choreographer on Team paso, but I may be wrong on this)went for the cheap, shirtless act instead of better choreo. Unless, the female pros he was working convinced him that was the way to go. Sure he didn’t need Much convincing! LOL We may never know!
So next week they have 2 dances? OTRC interview with Andy said something about an immunity dance and wiki says something about a no pro challenge. What’s that all about?
I work in a high school and the teens watch the Voice, Pretty Little Liars, House of Anubis, and Hollywood Heights. HOWEVER….
they ARE watching Zendaya because “she’s cool” and feel she is the “next Beyonce”…SMH. They follow her on twitter, she when she’s dancing, tune in and then turn off or change channel.
The last time kids in my school watched the show in volumes was to vote for Kyle Massey because they loved his show….he came in second (beating out the so called Palin Nation power voters lol).
They do text and tweet each other to remind each other to vote even if they are at cheer, dance, or a sport event/practice. I have asked some on a recent trip, if they vote online. Majority vote on face book, have registered their EMAIL (one each apparently not plural—they don’t want to get in trouble making up “phony emails”), and they call using house phone as well as all family member’s phones.
The teachers vote too lol…they call and go on abc.com, but not facebook (only one teacher)or twitter.
My kids go to other schools. My oldest’s schoolmates don’t care to vote—but will tweet only because they are already on twitter with friends. They like Sean and Kellie. My younger one (tween)–even many boys watch (yes, for the pretty girls–they claim they don’t vote). The girls are all for Zendaya.
Interesting tidbit—most of them want her to win because they said “it’s about time a black girl won. Black guys win all the time. It’s payback for Brandi.” And yes, 99% of them LOVE Maks and vote also for Val because he’s “Maks Jr.”
Jokingly on the trip, I suggested to my classes that they can earn 5 extra credit points on their upcoming projects if they vote for Jacoby, Kellie, or Andy and show me a vine video, or picture of them at laptop showing confirmation of their votes——The 5 points weren’t worth it to them and some of them need it LOL !!! 🙂
Interesting insights! Really makes me feel old since I ofcourse don’t really follow their logic! LOL
That’s interesting Sheery, Thanks for sharing. One never can figure out the kiddos.
Speaking of The Voice, I am loving this season without Christine and Ceelo, what a breath of fresh air to have Usher and Shakira. DWTS better step up it’s game… The Voice is killing it this season.
Not in the least interested in the Voice unless they get Derek to dance to whoever is singing, I won’t watch! LOL Seriously, what is there for your EYES to see? Costumes, sets, DANCING? If I want to listening to singing I have my Ipod.
Forgot to say that despite the behind the scenes nonsense, no other show I’ve found on t.v. showcases the performing arts like DWTS. Even with the worst contestants, it’s still the best show for dancing, entertainment and inspiring stories. I may vent my frustrations about the show here like most people, but honestly I really don’t care to hear about their competition when I come here to read and discuss DWTS. Sorry, just had to say how I feel about the 1 show I don’t miss each week.
Thank goodness for online viewing! Love The Voice – great format. ALL the contestants can sing – not like Idol where you have to sit through painful auditions that were too embarrassing to watch at times. Turned me off Idol completely except this season when home town girl (Candace Glover) is on fire!
and while we’re off topic – let me just say that the STEAL option on The Voice is a perfect example of a successful change to a show/format. They recognized a problem (loosing too many really good singers/performers in the battle rounds) and came up with an exciting solution. Has really made the Voice a better show. Agree Sandy – Usher and Shakira are a wonderful breath of fresh air.
I still tune in to DWTS live and catch the Voice the next day on-line. And I doubt that will change, but I can love more than one show. I also enjoy Amazing Race but my guilty pleasure is …..Gordon Ramsay! Love all of his shows, and I still can’t cook worth a damn! LOL
Wow, I thought I was a nerd about DWTS metrics (although mine are exclusively about contestant predictions). This many datapoints absolutely makes me salivate. Thank you thank you THANK YOU.
I went back to you tube to see some of Derek’s past sambas and can’t believe Len gave Derek and Nicole a 7! He also complained that Derek and Brooke’s samba was too “raunchy” and he didn’t like the props ofcourse! He did appear to like Jennifer and Derek’s student/teacher samba, but still only gave them an 8 I think. I hope I’m wrong about this, but now that Kellie is at the top, I can see Len and CAI tearing apart every detail in their samba next week just to shake up the leader board.
@sheery I’m curious…in what state or area of the US are you referring to? Because my sister is a senior in high school, but she and her friends stopped watching Disney Channel before they were freshman. From what she tells me, most people don’t even watch DWTS in her school, and none of them even know who Zendaya is. To them, Disney Channel and anything associated with it is lame.
Sara, The Big Apple <3
There are over 3700 students in my school, but of course, I'm only in contact with those in my "wing" of the campus and they are froshs and sophs. (13-15yrs old mostly) Many of them watched the Kids/Teen Choice Awards on Nick lol !
I happened to ask one class to tell me the top 3 people they follow on twitter (it was after their lab work was done lol). Answers: Justin Bieber, Kylie/Kendall Jenner (honestly can't remember which one), and Lucy Hale.
Many of them do competitive dance and cheer competitions (ala Sabrina Bryan).
great show but sometimes the music doesn’t help the dance or the dancers. can anyone tell me why they don’t use the standard music that fits the ballroom dances?
