DWTS Season 16, Week 7 – The Details of Latin Week (Weigh In With Your Opinions)!

We’ve been having this discussion in an older post, and as a result some of you may have missed the new details that seem to be emerging about Latin Week. You can read some of the details in Vogue’s earlier post regarding DWTS Week 7, and you can also see the video of Henry discussing what he knows of Latin week here —> Henry talks Latin Week. It’s a short video – you can watch it for yourself and see what you make of it.

I’m posting this up here at the top to try to involve more people in the discussion (no trolling, though, kiddies). As I understand it, the high scoring couple is immune from elimination, right off the bat. Then, the second highest scoring couple gets first choice of who they want to dance against in a “challenge”. According to Derek’s blog, it seems this happens on Tuesday – but I’m not really sure how they’re going to work this. They have 7 couples doing one dance each in two hours?? That’s a whole bunch of free time for filler – as long as that filler is more dancing I guess I’m okay with that – but the results show could be a nightmare.

Anyway, the couples will be dancing either Cha Cha, Jive or Rumba. Not sure how it’s determined who does what, plus certain couples have already done some or all of these dances.

Derek Hough’s Blog on DWTS Weeks 6 and 7, DWTS Season 16

Derek did a shorter than normal blog this week because he’s exhausted and doesn’t know where he is, apparently. 🙂  Here’s an excerpt from TV Guide:

I am exhausted! I have no idea what time it is or where I am. I’ve been following Kellie on tour this week and I’m just wiped. We’ve been traveling for 10 hours as of now and I think we’re in Illinois or Ohio. I really have no clue! We don’t get back to L.A. until Sunday, so we have one more day of this. I traveled with her the second week, but this is way worse because she’s got three shows in a row.

We lucked out with the samba this week since we just did it in the team dance. It’s s a physical dance and she’s handling it really well. I don’t want to try anything too crazy either this week since it’s so hectic for us. Like with our quickstep, I’m focusing on the quality. I loved how that turned out. It was a pretty simple dance and Kellie nailed it. There were no tricks or gimmicks. It was just a dance, you know? I think that’s so hard to do right now on the show. We’re always trying to do the next big, new thing to keep it fresh and interesting, which I understand, but you also can’t beat just a really good dance. It reminded me of early Dancing with the Stars when literally each week was just the dance itself — no themes or anything. I just wanted the quality to come through and I think it did. Neither of us was expecting the 10 from Len, but it felt awesome to get it!

I have absolutely no idea what’s going in the dance-off next week. All I know is the top couple will be automatically safe, and the other six will have to be in the dance-off. There are three dance styles: the cha-cha, jive and rumba. We won’t know until the results night which dance we’d have to do. I honestly haven’t thought about that at all. I’m just concerned with the samba right now and making that as good as possible. The good thing is we’ve done all three of those styles, so hopefully that’ll give us an edge if we’re in the dance-off.

Here’s Derek goofing off with Kellie on Stage in Minnesota:

Lots of great photos were taken yesterday while the cast headed to rehearsals for Dancing With The Stars. Above is Sharna Burgess and Andy Dick, Karina Smirnoff, and Kym Johnson. Will The Rumba Be Sean Lowe’s Breakout Dance On Dancing With The Stars?

SeanPeta

Sean and Peta have a plan to “shake” their disappointing week and make a come back? Peta says they have to make sure this upcoming dance is their “breakout dance”. Can they do it? Below is more from OK! Magazine. Note how Sean had travelling distractions this week like the last, but, this time he took Peta along so he wouldn’t miss a day of practice.

“We have to make sure that this dance is our breakout dance and he’s got to come out with full force,” says Peta. “He’s got to look like a changed dancer, a changed man and I’ve got to really soften him up. He always gets called a lumberjack. I really don’t want to hear that word ever again. I don’t want to hear it one more time. We have a lot of work this week.”

Last week Sean’s personal appearance schedule interfered with rehearsals, forcing him to miss a full day of practice. This week another event takes him to North Carolina, but he’s bringing Peta along to make sure he has plenty of time to tackle his footwork.

“It was definitely distracting,” he says. “I’m not going to make excuses. Missing Thursday killed me but then we worked 13 hours on Friday and we worked all day Saturday so I felt like I made up for that time. I actually felt good going into Monday until our performance and I kind of screwed it up from there. It was distracting but I don’t think that’s the reason I did poorly.”

Peta describes what their Rumba will be like in this take….

“It’s going to be soft, it’s going to be lyrical, he’s going to have beautiful lines and we just have to make sure he’s a softer guy this week,” says Peta.

You can read the full article at OK! Magazine. I agree how he needs to really have a break out dance and one that is perfect if he wants to continue on.
