Emma Slater, Sasha Farber, and Tristan MacManaus Discuss DWTS With Afterbuzz
I haven’t watched this in full yet, but, below is Afterbuzz with their Dancing with the Stars “after show” for Week 8. Their special-guests include Emma Slater, Sasha Farber, and Tristan MacManaus. Enjoy!!
It was nice hearing three professionals talk about the episode.
It’s apparent Tristan feels that the characterization of the dance is just as important as the actual steps. I like that.
I really hope he gets someone good an d healthy next season so we can see what he can really do.
I’d never heard Emma talk before. I thought she was Australian like Sasha but to me she sounds more working class English.
I thought it was interesting that both Sasha and Tristan were rooting for Val to win the MBT. To me, they gave the impression that it was because he had never won before and he had a contender. Tristan did say that he thought it was between Kellie and Zen dance-wise though. Then, being the diplomat that he is, he says why he thinks Jacoby or Ally could win as well.
Thanks for this Vogue! I love these!
After this and watching some of the parts of last weeks show including the ridiculous manufactured drama meant to portray Derek as a rulebreaker, I really think TPTB are trying to get Aly in the finals instead of Kellie. Hearing these pros discuss, they were all in awe and loved Kellies dances and said she was a good dancer and they plus other pros like Ana and Tony thought she would get all 10’s for her dances. The content was there, the pros talked about how into the dance even they were and Kellie was and the audience reaction but they still think Zendaya will probably win?? BTS I’ll bet there is even more going on and they would know. They praised Aly but pointed out plenty of flaws but the scores she got, the fact THEY said she would be great in the freestyle. Jacoby and Zendaya have always been slated for finals and I think the fix is in to add Aly.
Thanks, Vogue. 🙂 This was a very good AfterBuzz. It was great having only one host to moderate the discussion because it allowed us to get a lot more input from the three pros. All three had some very insightful opinions to contribute.
Tristan has said in other interviews that he always pulls for Val and Peta because he and they became teaching pros the same season. So it’s like rooting for his “classmates”. I don’t think it has much to do with wanting someone to win who hasn’t won before.
I agree with Cidra’s take on who/why Tristan’s pulling for. I also liked the one host with those guests. I think Jake did a great job!
So glad to hear your take on Tristan’s comments, Cidra! I couldn’t figure out why Tristan wanted Val to win over the others. I knew Val hadn’t been in the troupe with him. I still got the impression that Sasha was rooting for Val though.
I agree with what RaineMayer said too. 🙂
Jake did do a good job. He hardly gets a word in edgewise when the three gals are there!

There is that sentiment going on, though. I’m already seeing people saying they’re voting for Val because he’s never won before and he might never have another contender ever again. I just shook my head because that’s what made Tony and Melissa win all stars, along with the shenanigans that was going on.
I think there are people who are going to vote for Jacoby because he’s football, just won superbowl…, some will vote for Aly because she’s an Olympic athlete, is from Boston…some will vote for Kellie because she’s country music or they loved her on AI, some will vote for Zendaya because she’s their age or on a show they love… some will vote because they love Derek, or love Mark, or love Val or Karina…some will try to get Mark tied with Derek, some will want to see Derek perhaps leave on high note or pay back for last season, some will want Val to win because he’s the only one left standing who hasn’t won…
And each of the 4 likely to be in the finals probably have blocks of people who will vote AGAINST them, don’t want Derek to win again, don’t want Mark with an Olympic gymnast to win again, don’t want a “ringer” to win, don’t want an NFLer to win again.
I’ll vote probably for a combination of reasons, 2 of my favorite pros combined with 2 who are entertaining me, who I think are doing well…Kellie and Jacoby. But I’m not rooting against the other 2, I think they’re great gals and think they’ll do very well in life.
@RaineMayer, your Aly vs. Kellie comments make no sense in a 4 person final…
Fancy, my comment was strictly about what I remember Tristan saying when asked a similar question in other interviews. I wasn’t drawing any conclusions about how others might feel or how it would influence the publics’ voting behavior. My assessment of what might be driving the viewer vote is 100% in line with Jess.
And my comment was about how that “Val should win because he’s never won” sentiment out there. I wasn’t saying anything about Tristan and his reasoning for rooting for Val and saying that Zendaya and Val’s salsa was his favorite dance of the night.
Thanks, Fancy. Glad we got that cleared up.
I wish there wasn’t any “(insert pro) deserves to win because they haven’t won before” sentiment out there, but it’s alive and well. That said, there’s nothing wrong with wanting a certain pro to win (heck I’d love to see Tristan win), but for me the celebrities have only one season, whereas the pros (hopefully) will have many seasons on the show. So I try to focus on which celebrity I’d like to see win.
