Past Pros Returning For 300th Episode Of Dancing With The Stars, The Wanted And Avril Lavigne To Perform
Get ready for the 300th episode of Dancing With The Stars on this coming Tuesday night! The Wanted and Avril Lavigne are set to perform. There will also be a “spectacular opening number” choreographed by Jason Gilkison with 22 pros and returning favorites, including Chelsie Hightower, Dmitry Chaplin, Louis Van Amstel and Anna Trebunskaya (Does anyone know why Maks has been excluded? Does he have a previous engagement?). Below are more details from ABC MediaNet including details for Monday night’s dances as well.
“Episode 1609 & 1609A” – Five remaining couples take to the ballroom floor during the Semi-Finals on MONDAY, MAY 13 (8:00-10:01 p.m., ET). Each couple perform two routines, inching their way one step closer to the coveted mirror ball trophy. Last week viewers were asked to vote via twitter on a new style of dance for each couple to perform; this week the couples perform their chosen style, including the Flamenco, Charleston, Afro Jazz, Lindy Hop and Hip Hop. Each couple will also be challenged to take on a ballroom or Latin style dance they have yet to perform this season.
On TUESDAY, MAY 14, “Dancing with the Stars” celebrates its 300th episode (9:00-10:01 p.m., ET). The show will feature music by The Wanted, who will perform their hit, “Fill A Heart,” and Avril Lavigne will perform her new single, “Here’s to Never Growing Up.” The 300th show celebration will feature a spectacular opening number choreographed by Jason Gilkison with 22 pro and returning favorites, including Chelsie Hightower, Dmitry Chaplin, Louis VanAmstel and Anna Trebunskaya. In addition, “AT&T Spotlight Performance” returns for its final installment of the season featuring Sophia Lucia, an incredible 10-year-old dancer who recently set the Guinness World Record for consecutive pirouettes. One couple will be eliminated at the end of the night.
I thought Maks had hurt his foot and needed surgery or something like that.
I’d be more excited if that list included Lacey. I miss watching that girl perform.
What made me most excited was seeing their having Sophia Lucia on the show. She may not need the publicity since she’s been featured on Dance Moms, but she’s phenomenal to watch!
@Marlene – I read that also.
I would be pretty freaking excited if Edyta were to dance…that’s probably a HUGE if…
@Trent I forgot about Edyta. Add her to my list that I’d really like to see back. Her, Lacey, and Julianne. Things that will never happen…
I really hope Maks will be there if hes not and its because he wasn’t invited that would be very disrespectful to him & the his fans
They are all Past Pros for a reason. Good or bad.
@Ashley – Disrespectful to Maks? … Last time I looked, Maks didn’t know the meaning of respect.
I think the allegations by Hope in her book, along with what the viewers witnessed of Mak’s behavior was the final straw for the producers.
Dimitri.. boring, zzzzzz.
I love Hope Solo on the field but have no respect for her off of it she is constantly blaming others for her choices that’s really childish on her part so a lot that is in her book isn’t credible
Would love to see Edyta and Ashley!
Wow. I thought maybe they would do something really spectacular for a 300th episode but other than a boatload of former dancers about half of whom might be a little interesting it sounds like the same old kinda usual results show. I think more and more it might be the producers of this show that need a shake-up. I often looks like they just don’t give a ****, just throw something at the wall and see if it sticks That will all the underlying feeling that something just smells kinda funny, is upsetting. I just wish they would put some actual effort towards saving what used to be a good show instead of turning it into 3rd rate schlocky burlesque show.
My DREAM would be for Edyta, Lacey, and Julianne to come back. Miss them on the show!
I could have sworn the show mentioned at the beginning of the season that they were going to have a spectacular celebration of the 300th show. Now it’s turned into an opening number with way too many people on the floor? I sure hope they have more planned than that but I doubt it. I notice they are saying “22 returning pros and favorites”, so maybe they mean some former stars will also be back. It’s just odd they aren’t mentioning anyone if that is the case.
#12- Like past winners and such!
1. Have all the past winners invited on the show and acknowledged. Maybe have them parade down the big stairs.
2. Have as many of the former pros back as possible, including the ones already mentioned and Elena, Andrea, Alex and the guy who partnered Marilee Maitlyn (I can’t remember his name!). Did I forget anyone?
3. Have fans vote for their top 5 dances of all time, then interview the celebrity and their pro fo
Sorry, I hit send too soon!
What I was saying was interview the celebrity and their pro for their thoughts on what made that particular dance special to them.
4. Show a clip of Tom’s best moments. He’s the dough that holds this crazy pie together. They need to acknowledge that.
5. Give us lots of good dancing!!
It says 22 pros. 12 pros + those 4 mentioned = 16. That means 8 more pros right? How many troupe members do we have? I wonder if they’re included in this group of 22.
I mean 6 not 8. Too early for math.
I was hoping for something spectacular as well, perhaps even a 2 hour show. From the blurb they put out, agree, it looks pretty much like a typical results show. You’d think if they had something big planned they’d be advertising/hyping it.
Unless Maks has injured his foot (as was mentioned above) and can’t dance, I find it hard to believe he won’t be part of the 300th episode celebration. He’s already appeared on the show this season so it’s not like the producers have banned him or are giving him the cold shoulder.
I agree with you all. I think the plans for the 300th episode is lacking too.
Also, you’d think they could set differences aside and ask the older pros that had conflicts back. It would have been especially cool to see Edyta back again. She and Maks are why I first became a fan to this show.
As long as Karina and Anna are dancing I’m good! 😉
I can’t wait!I really hope Anna is back next season with a celebrity…would have like to see Edyta,Alec,Maks, and Julianne too!
I’ve been raising high expectations for this 300th episode of DWTS since the beginning of the season, like a -besides the great professional performances, I know it’ll definitely be-, 2-hours-long show where the viewers (one good reason to use social media) could pick, among performances of past seasons, their favorite performances of each dance style on the show (fav AT, fav QS, fav cha-cha, fav VW etc) giving to the stars chosen by the viewers a “Mini-MBT”.
I’m ok with Avril lavigne, I love her sound, but Beyonce would be a wild choice to celebrate such a great show…
I don’t know, maybe I just have to stop creating high expectations for everything. Hope just see past contestants on the audience, more exciting would see some of them performing again on stage.
BTW, hope we can see Maks on the show as well. He’s been there almost forever…
It does seem odd that they would not include Maks. I think by NOT mentioning if Maks will be there or not they hope to generate more viewers out of curiosity.
Will he or won’t he? Sounds familiar doesn’t it.
It sounds like a typical results show with a big opening number. I’m actually pretty excited to see Sophia Lucia. That girl is amazing.
For me, the pros who would return that would surprise me and I would like to see ( but know they will not) are Edyta and Julianne.
Maks will be on. http://youtu.be/QHaUf9s5wPs
Maks has a bunion didn’t anyone listen to Val ………….and a far as Maks being disrespectful to Hope Solo you’ve got to be kidding !!!
Respect is earned didn’t you know ?
Kristin, that’s an old video for when he was on before.
Oh it just came up on my YouTube feed. 🙁
Bwahahahahahahaha…..gasp. A bunion?? Um…okay. 😀
When Val said it was a bunion I am pretty sure he meant cyst. A couple of seasons ago Maks said it was a cyst on his ankle and that he might need to surgery.
It sounds pretty comical, but apparently, bunions can be a big deal. One of my co-workers a few years back was having serious problems caused by a bunion. She ended up having surgery where they cut out out some bone and realigned her big toe. The post-op recovery took months. She couldn’t put any weight on the foot for several weeks. To get around, she had this little wheely cart; she’d rest her knee on the cart, and kind of step, roll, step, roll down the hall. It was a hoot to watch. After a while she graduated to crutches but was still only allowed to put weight on the foot for a few hours a day. It would be a good giggle to see Maks rolling around with one of those kneeler thingys.
When Maks danced with Anna alongside Zen and Val, he looked pretty good, unless he hurt his foot doing that dance or something.Either way like he himself said “the show will go on”, with or without him.
Probably shouldn’t throw in my 2 cents since I haven’t been following the status of Maks’s health. However, if it is the bunion thing, from what little I know about bunions, it’s not something you hurt on a one-time deal, it’s a problem that develops over time. All the dancers seem to have chronic injuries, and they just power through. Dancing several times on Week 5 might just have been the straw that broke the camel’s back and caused Maks to say, “Enough’s enough; I’m going to get this taken care of now.”
Don’t be pimping other blogs here, Grant. And the rule about not whining about what other people are saying goes for you too.
Ya know, if the youngsters could just state their opinion without whining about other people or attacking other people, there probably would be a lot more positive Zendaya discussion here. But since they can’t seem to do that, they get deleted. I guess this is an extreme youth thing.
Silly me…I thought little old ladies had bunions. But I guess the wear and tear ages their bodies very quickly.
I actually thought only ballerinas got bunions from the pressure standing on pointe.
Do ballroom dancers do a lot of steps on the ball of their feet?
Unless he’s getting surgery right now I would expect him to be there for the 300th episode.
At the risk of becoming known here as the “bunion bunny” or someone who seriously needs to get a life, 😛 here’s what the Mayo Clinic says about what causes bunions:
Bunions develop when the pressures of bearing and shifting your weight fall unevenly on the joints and tendons in your feet….An occupation that puts extra stress on your feet also can be a cause.
Sounds like that would apply to dancers of all styles. Apparently heredity can also play a role. So perhaps the Chmerkovskiy genes played a role.
Yeah bunions are a big deal. Anyone that wears tight shoes or dances, or even just hereditary causes can exacerbate the problem til they need to be taken care of surgically, and like someone upthread said, it’s a really crazy long recovery for something you think would be easy, but in fact it’s usually involves removing part of the bone of foot and wheelchairs and crutches and a medical shoes. I have the hereditary type but I’ve kept them cared for so I haven’t had any chronic issues, but I’ve known more than a few women who wear too-tight shoes or dancers that have been plagued by them. My father was a very fit athlete that was in agonizing pain from them. Feet are not something to take lightly, especially when they are crucial to your livelihood.
Anyway, not sure if that’s what is genuinely going on with Maks, but if it is then it’s definitely a legitimate reason to abstain from performing or even appearing on the show.
Hey, Bunion bunny…
Bunion Buddy.
Hey that sounds like an awesome Halloween costume!
Am I the only one who finds it odd that this whole bunion issue is coming out now? I mean, to me it seems like it now gives Maks an acceptable “out”, rather than say that TPTB don’t really appear to want him back as a pro on a regular basis.
Yes, PH???
I think my job here is done. So Bunion Bunny will head off into the sunset and go play with Smokey the Bear and MgGruff the Crime Dog. Maybe they can help me come up with a snappy catch-phrase.
I for one am tired of being drawn into their circus by hype instead of dancing. It’s starting to matter way to much to me about “will they or won’t they” I use to enjoy watching dancing now I feel like I’m being toyed with .They have gotten too big, too soap, too Hollywood and I think they are dancing themselves right out of a show. I am sad , but there have been other shows that tried too hard and ruined what they had going for them. I guess I need to get a life ….sigh……..
